Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nervousmum2be · 17/07/2005 20:39

i pee into a cheap plastic measuring jug (purchased specifically for said task, NOT my usual kitchen one ), then decant it into the pee pot, to save getting it all over my hands

fastasleep · 17/07/2005 20:53

I thought when the nurse gave my pot back at the first check that it was to chuck out! I put it in the bin there and then and she said nothing ... I'll have to go to the chemist for a pot before my 28 week midwife appt as I have a little rash (heat rash I think) going on down there and I want to be sure I'm ok!

Can't believe you hadn't worked out the decanting trick (then again I haven't even got a pot to pee in!!)

Jockey · 17/07/2005 21:32

I must be really privileged - the midwife gives me a fresh sample container each time and even asks if I would like the narrow or wide necked type!!! Yes - I actually get a choice from a range of tubes!

hester · 17/07/2005 21:41

I just waltz into the clinic and ask them for a sample pot. Never been refused one and never had one handed back to me, either

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 17/07/2005 21:46

you can get them for nothing from your docs reception.

i have mine given back to me - rinsedo ut if at docs, or i do it at home if mw comes here. my mw today even left my dipstick in it today!

alterego · 17/07/2005 22:00

Had thought of the jug but didn't want to use the kitchen utensils Perhaps I should just go and buy one.

rodeo1 · 17/07/2005 22:51

Thought I'd introduce myself, from 'over the fence' Nov thread but dear babe will delivered at 37 weeks (due to previous sections) which gives me a rough date of the 12th Oct - cannot believe there's only 12 weeks to go!

I'm 27 have a dd age 6 and a ds age 3, live in Derbyshire....erm..well that's all really

Is there a thread with your stats on that I can read to catch up on you all?

24+4 x x x

rodeo1 · 17/07/2005 22:54

Oh ...forgot to add.. I'm a wee 'taker homer' too. Yuk!

Elf1981 · 18/07/2005 07:20

I was mystified at my second appointment when the midwife asked if I'd brought a sample, I was like "what in?!" but wasn't asked to go to the loo and give one and didn't get a pot given to me either, despite her saying she would.
At my second scan, I asked for a pot and felt all smug when midwife asked at next appointment if I had a sample, but was disgusted when she handed it back to me after the visit, saying she wasn't allowed to tip it down the sink anymore! Had to take it to work with me and wash it out there. Gross, gross, gross.

Elf1981 · 18/07/2005 07:21

By the way - any tips on my disaster???? This morning, was taking my earrings off to wash my hair and I dropped them down the sink

These are £100+ worth of earrings. Rang DH is distress, told me not to run water (I'm not that stupid) and he'll have a look tonight.

Are they lost forever? Anybody think I'm going to have a miracle and get them back?

mawbroon · 18/07/2005 09:17

Re the samples - my midwife told me too that they are not allowed to pour it down the sink any more. She gives me it back, I pour it on our compost heap (the levels of nitrogen help accelerate the composting process), I then rinse out the bottle and use it again next time.

It's only wee for heavens sake girls.....

Welcome Rodeo hope all is going well with you.

Oh no Elf where they tiny? I hope he gets em, no tips though!

Welcome rodeo there's a stats thread somewhere about... (erm!)

My morning sickness came back... is it like a new 26 week milestone thing or something?! Lol! Theo's a right grump, getting four teeth at once... hope you're all doing well!

triceratops · 18/07/2005 10:12

Lol at "It's only wee for heavens sake girls....." Mawbroon.

Before I got pregnant for the first time I was talking to my boss who had two small kids. He was explaining to me that when you were a parent you had to be able to get across the room and catch sick in your cupped hands before it hit the sofa, and it didn't even make you bat an eyelid. I thought he was just being gross but he was right, you have to get over the whole squeamish thing when you have small children (you also have to have sixth sense and quick reactions). Lets just say that potty training is not an exact science, a bit of wee in a pot is not going to scare me now, besides it is my wee, why should the midwife want it?

Welcome to the thread Rodeo, I bet I end up going the other way into November .

rodeo1 · 18/07/2005 10:21

I was trying to find a clean beaker for ds a couple of months ago, found a yellow one on the side with about an inch of water in it. Quickly slurped the water to fill with milk to quickly realise it was wee! (ds got into a habit while potty training to wee in all manner of cups, bowls, containers) I didn't swallow, but did get a proper 'saline' taste, urgh. How can some people do it out of choice??!!!

LOL at the cupped hands full of sick!

alterego · 18/07/2005 10:45

Re. earrings, as long as you haven't run the water they should get caught in the trap.

Aww Jo, hope she's ok! Thanks for the stats I had hands full of sick this morning, bleeeeugh.... then I spotted Theo's never been used potty (he's too young) and christened that!

rodeo1 · 18/07/2005 11:01
