Hester's ok

fastasleep · 07/07/2005 11:37

Hope the rest of you guys are ok! I have to go make lunch for a screamy munchkin...

mawbroon · 07/07/2005 13:20

Hope everyone in London is ok. Makes me feel a bit for moaning about the disruptions in Edinburgh yesterday.

Jockey · 07/07/2005 13:24

Mawbroon - just glad you got home ok. Hoping everyone is safe in London.

Elf1981 · 07/07/2005 13:33

Feels odd that this time yesterday we were celebrating winning the bid for the Olympics to be held in London and then 24 hours later it's a disaster zone.

Had midwife appointment today, everything fine. Got another on the 27th to check me again as told midwife about change in Boo's movements. She listened for heart beat and said that it was strong and good, no need to worry. Also told me when measuring that I'm measuring more like 28 weeks rather than 26 - does that mean that I'm going to have a larger baby? A friend said their DP's sis had a baby last week weighing 10lb 10!

YOKEFLEET · 07/07/2005 15:36

I hope everyone on here from London is ok. Our thoughts are with you.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 07/07/2005 15:37

Hope all of you londoners are ok, thinking of you all xxx

Dreadful news yesterday. So much death and horror so close to home. I found it very shocking and upsetting and I do hope that the catch the individuals responsible as soon as possible. I was exactly this pregnant when the 9/11 disaster happened.

Morning Ladies. Terrible news about what happened in London yesterday

We were actually stuck in traffic on the M25 after the initial aftermath (on our way to the Lake District). Makes my news seem trivial, but we were involved in a car accident half way up here - some tit braked suddenly for no apparant reason, DP swerved to avoid him (successfully, i might add - my hero!), only for the car behind to smash into the back of us. Minor damage to our car (unlike hers - bonnet completely crumpled up), but DP was concerned about me so have been checked out at the local hospital up here. Bab's fine (thank goodness - i've never been so relieved to be kicked in the bladder, or hear his heart beat), just a minor touch of whiplash to me, and a swollen knee where i jarred it. Luckily i was actually dozing at the time of impact - the MW reckons that will actually have saved Baby from taking the full brunt, as if i'd been awake, i would have tensed up. Ok now though, and off to enjoy the rest of my holiday. x (sorry for the long post!)

jolovett · 08/07/2005 09:50

Hope you're ok nm2b - take it easy on hols now.

Yesterday was a mad day - can't believe what those poor people have been put through.

DH travels a lot up to central London and was due to go up this week, but had some stuff in the local office to sort out first. So glad he wasn't up there - I would have been hysterical!

mishmash2 · 08/07/2005 12:35

Hi all - thought I'd give you all a posting from London. Was rather hectic yesterday so didn't log on. Luckily I work in Green Park so wasn't in the area that was affected - mind you we still heard sirens all day long and were stuck to the TV screens in the office. Absolutley dreadful. I got into work just as the first bomb went off - was on a bus..... so thankful that it wasn't this end of town. Luckily when I left the office at 6ish the trains were running again so I walked to Victoria and jumped on the train to Clapham so wasn't really affected at all. Most of the office are in today though - I'm very impressed that the tube/trains/buses are running.

So sorry to hear about your car crash - but also glad to hear the bump is ok. What a relief.

My DH and I are picking up our new car tonight..... we have gone for the estate version... also won a pram on ebay so suddenly I feel like I will be a mother soon! First purchases! Very exciting!

morningpaper · 08/07/2005 13:16

Elf: Last time I had a lot of scans because of 'problems' (all turned out to be nothing) with the baby and at one point it was measuring SIX WEEKS too large and they referred me to a consultant because I'm small. I was cacking myself. It came out at 41 weeks at 7.5lb. I think that the measurements are all about 'averages' and babies grow at different rates. So I wouldn't worry too much!

hester · 08/07/2005 14:42

Hi everyone - have finally got home after being stuck in East London since yesterday morning. The tube bombs were on the line I get in to work, and one of them at the station closest to my office, but fortunately I went in early for an 8am meeting. Came out of my meeting and didn't know what was going on - sirens and helicopters everywhere - baby started kicking about like the clappers, don't know if it was my stress reaction or all the noise. anyway, it was very odd being at work (I work in the hospital where most of the casualties were taken); very distracted, found it hard to concentrate. I did seriously consider walking home (would have taken about three hours) but I was feeling very tired and at one stage just the thought of the walk made me want to burst into tears - I knew at that point I was being irrational and arranged to stay overnight with a colleague instead!

It's good to be home

hester · 08/07/2005 14:43

fastasleep - pmsl at you tormenting your sister-in-law to get breeding

fastasleep · 08/07/2005 17:22

Glad you're ok Hester, I was asking after you like a weirdo and mishmash ... NM2B! That sounds really scary, so glad you and the little one are ok... you sound very calm about it!

Joseyjo · 08/07/2005 19:25

glad to hear everyone is ok.

bump is huge, i am tired but happy, can't wait for my scan next week.

dh wants me to talk about sensible car options for transporting bubba. don't want sensible so am sulking. oh well.... best go and pretend to be adult about it!!! don't really have anything to complain about do i?

BigBumpBonnie · 08/07/2005 20:13

hi everyone, so glad everybody from London is safe and well. Couldn't believe what happened yesterday It does make you wonder what sort of a world we're in doesn't it.

I'm feeling extra huge today for some reason. I think it's the position the babies laying. I ordered one of those big chunky elasticated maternity belts from the internet and it arrived yesterday. I've really been trying to wear it as I'm carrying low and have had terrible back problems over the last few weeks but it's been really hot today and having a thick strip of elastic under your bump doesn't help! Really doesn't do much for dh either, but who cares about that

Anyway, looking forward to having a nice weekend and intending to do not much at all if the weather stays like this!

fastasleep · 08/07/2005 20:35

Car options? I have to lug a toddler and a newborn everywhere on the bus don't you complain

Bonnie you should sit with your feet up in the garden with a huge pitcher of home-made lemonade and some yummy cakes all weekend! I hope the bump belt thingamy helps more than it has been!

fastasleep · 09/07/2005 08:10

Oh nooo the evil crazy parents are visiting from Yorkshire today (Yorkshire's nice though, not implying!)... I'd accidentally on purpose forgotten - I don't wanna see them! (mum hasn't seen me with a bump) she's going to call me fat and make me cry or something... I'm actually dressing all in black on the most gorgeous summer's day to go to a park!!

novadandypowder · 09/07/2005 12:10

sorry to crash thread - i'm on due in nov. but i like to see whats coming up for me by reading the month ahead (is that quite tragic?)

Joseyjo - forget about sensible car options, my DH has a jag convertible which has the tiniest back seats in the world. He didn't want to give it up because of the baby though, so we went to a great shop in Winchester and they managed to find a car seat thats fits it. Where there's a will there's a way!!

Elf1981 · 10/07/2005 11:06

Morning all. On edge today as mum, dad, 2xsis + partners, bro + newphew are flying to Cyrpus and I'm always really nervous when people I know are flying. Esp as half of them were flying from Birmingham and I'm not sure whether the airport was affected with the threats that closed the city yesterday. Must read the news online in a min...
Will be relaxed this evening around 10:00 when I know that all the flights have got there. Got the week off work and will be chilling out at my mum and dads.

Ref sensible cars - DH wants us to get a new one. I'm reluctant as know our car should be big enough for us plus Boo. Got an 02 reg Punto and I love it, he wants us to get a Mondeo!

Hope all are well.

hester · 10/07/2005 11:09

Hi novadandypowder - nice to see you here; no doubt some of your gang will end up giving birth in October, and some of us will end up popping in November, so we really should do more chatting over the garden fence

fastasleep - sympathies on the mother front. I have two friends whose mothers moved seamlessly from complaining about their (the daughters') weight to fretting that their babies were too fat! One of these babies was a big birthweight, like her brother who had been similarly big two years before: cue grandmother enquiring about whether there was some kind of diet you can put a newborn on. Daughter: "Stop it right now! I am not letting you give this child an eating disorder before she's even weaned!" Grandmother: "I'm just concerned about her brother! How will he feel if he gets a little sister who is bigger than him?" (As said little brother is size of a small house, this looks unlikely.)

Just think, one day we too will get to go to that special college where they teach mothers advanced techniques in daughter-torturing

hester · 10/07/2005 11:12

This morning I woke up to dp playing a game with the baby: drumming on my tummy and then baby would kick back. She (dp) kept moving around and tapping different areas, and I SWEAR baby was following her around and kicking back in the exact same place. This went on for about five minutes until baby got bored.

Is this possible? Can a foetus possibly be that co-ordinated? Or am i going pregnant lady mad?

Moomin · 10/07/2005 11:13

elf1981 - the airport wasn't affected, but if it's any consolation, security will be extra extra tight today and for the coming weeks so in some ways, it might be the 'best' time for the past few months to be flying. I know that sounds stupid, but everyone is on high alert, so lapses in security are much less likely. I know this probably won't stop you worrying but try to if you can.

We went to the seaside yesterday and I got sunburned - ouch! I'm usually mega-careful as me and dd are so fair-skinned but I must have missed the backs of my shoulders as they are RAW now. Also had my 1st osteo appt for the spd and he said my pelvis is definitely 'out'. He manipulated my pelvis and sacral somethingorother and has given me some exercises to do between now and next week. Hope it helps, I'm in a lot of pain when I move much of the time now. Only 2 weeks left of work before summer hols - hurrah!

hester · 10/07/2005 11:15

Oh, and another thing, because I'm in a chatty mood this morning: last night we went out to a posh restaurant (our tenth anniversary and as I got up to go to the ladies (for the 17th time) a woman at the next table said, "Oh god, this place is full of pregnant women".

Was and then because I reckon she must be battling infertility or something, and having a hard time feeling surrounded by bumps. I remember that feeling very well, but was still rather surprised that she vocalised it so very audibly..
