Elf1981 · 03/07/2005 11:36

Just checking in - hope all are well and everything is feeling smiley.
Had a couple of days where I've felt very little movement during the day. Always get to point with DH where I'm on the verge of phoning the hospital, and then I get the biggest rounds of kicks ever. Assume that Boo has just changed their sleeping habits... either that or seeing how far they can push me!
Got M/wife appointment on Thurs so will see how it all goes. Have a good lazy Sunday all!

morningpaper · 03/07/2005 16:59

Just a quick hello from me ... DH took dd away for the weekend so I could have a break. I have had a lovely weekend with a friend over for a couple of nights and today by myself - mmm! Had a nice roast dinner with the papers in a local pub and a nice long nap this afternoon. What a treat.

Feeling knackered and tired though - doesn't help that I've been up watching Big Brother until very late at night evening evening.

nervousmum2be · 03/07/2005 22:00

Urgh, feeling poo. Have hayfever, which has sprung up out of the blue, and have sneezed so hard i managed to pee myself ...At work!!! Sooo embarrassing.

mawbroon · 03/07/2005 22:46

With you on the sneezing with hayfever nervous. I thought that I had perhaps managed to bypass the hayfever this year, but it has arrived with avengence. Having you been doing your pelvic floor exercises? I learned that if you are about to sneeze or laugh then you should clench your pelvic floor muscles in anticipation and then you are less likely to have an accident. Given that I have sneezing fits which are about 50 sneezes one after the other, I have found this very useful.....

Shama - very difficult to describe what the kicks feel like and I suppose it is a different feeling for everyone. How far on are you? I was able to see my bump jumping with the kicks at around 20 weeks but I suppose it depends which way the baby is lying. I only knew for sure about the kicks once I could feel them on the outside with my hand at around 18 weeks. Mine stop without fail as soon as I get DH to come and feel!

Feeling pretty tired just now. I think it is normal for this stage, but DH keeps saying I should go to the doctor. He read the bit about blooming in the second trimester and seems to think I should be out bungee jumping and running marathons with all this "extra energy" that I'm supposed to have...... pah, blokes. eh

Elf1981 · 04/07/2005 07:19

mawbroon - with you on the tiredness. To say a few weeks ago I had a slight surge in energy, I'm now back to feeling tired all the time. On Friday, sat on the bed with my car keys in my hand as I was going to pop to the shops, next thing I know it's half an hour later, I'd fallen asleep pratically sitting up with the keys in one hand and shopping list in the other!

Non pregnancy related - chuffed with my mum and dad, they have offered to pay half for eye surgery if I pay the other half! Said I'll start saving when I go back to work after baby is born, it will be £10 a week for a year for me to save, but I'll be able to see again!! Just hope my baby doesn't inherite my terrible eye sight. Or my bum...

fastasleep · 04/07/2005 08:56

Aww Elf your parents can always point with pride at the eye they fixed

I feel semi-awake today which is miraculous so I'm going to do the washing up, wash the baby because I keep forgetting and actually vacuum! DH will be gobsmacked when I'm not in an exhausted heap on the couch, well I spose I might be but it'll be a tidy exhausted heap

Hayfever's terrible but my hives seem to have calmed down thank god

I didn't have any energy last time at all... it all just knocked me for six the whole way through, this time I'm getting the odd day of energy and then I go back to feeling like I'm a stuffed bear or something - brain full of cotton wool!

Hope you're all feeling bumpy and gorgeous

triceratops · 04/07/2005 09:08

I wasnt sure that ds understood the concept of his new sister although we have been reading books about it. We went swimming yesterday and he approached a mum with a new baby and told her "My sister is called Flash and she is in mummys tummy and won't be coming out until the autumn" He is so excited and has no concept of when the autumn is. He wakes up and says "is it autumn today?".

fastasleep · 04/07/2005 09:11

Awwwww triceratops you mst have welled up that's so cute! Aww! I'm that mine's too young for all that...

hester · 04/07/2005 10:22

Morning all. Feeling very tired and stressed and rather depressed right now - I think I've been overdoing it at weekends, as well as working hard through the week. Am staying home today so hope that will help.

Here's a question for you: woke up with nipples that were strangely swollen (very high, lopsided), very tender, congested feeling, pale in patches. Normal? Or some kind of infection?

jolovett · 04/07/2005 11:16

I'm totally knackered with the rest of you, can't wait to go part time next week to have some lie ins. Woke uk at 8:50 this morning, lucky the office is only 2 min away from house so wasn't too late - still feel half asleep tho!

Anniversary tomorrow and DH is paying for me to be pampered next week - haircut, nails, etc. Can't wait. Seems to have got off lightly though since I took him on hols as a pressy! Although it's not like I didn't get anything out of going on hols!

Don't think I've had any BH yet. My sil is having them all the time now - she's sure she's going to have it early, she's due 1st week August. Is anyone else having nightmare with midwife? My poor sil gets told somethings wrong everytime she goes - last time they told her the baby was too small - but after some research it was 32cm - the average for this time in pg. Strange. She's a proper worrier too so she's having a rough time the mo with all the panicking, especially since midwife has mentioned c-section several times! My midwife is fab so feeling lucky at the mo.

bonniej · 04/07/2005 11:44

hi everyone. Hester, not had any experience of this but boobs do change dramatically during pg so i'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Mine are constantly painful at the moment and look very different to normal, but if you're worried always worth mentioning it to the doctor to be on the safe side.

I feel really tired at the moment as well. Didn't sleep too good last night and could really do with going back to bed but with dd to look after that's not going to happen. When she has her nap this afternoon ds is babysitting and I have to go big food shopping that's the last thing I feel like doing but cant put if off any longer!

Glad i'm not the only one getting lots of BH. They can be really strong sometimes. If I was nearer the due date I'd have been convinced on a couple of occassions that it was going to happen.

Jolovett, hope you have a lovely anniversary. Pampering sounds just the thing at the moment

One more thing before I go, does anyone else find they have to keep hoisting up their maternity jeans, or am I just a funny shape?? It drives me mad, I've got a few pairs of the ones with the stretchy material over the bump and no matter how tight I adjust them they are always slipping down! very uncomfortable!

Joseyjo · 04/07/2005 12:37

hello - yes all my maternity trousers (except one pair that comes up to my bra!!) now slip down the whole time!! v v annoying and it means my belly is hanging out for the world to see most of the time!
i had a little panic on saturday - the baby's movements had totally changed last week and they weren't nearly as strong as they had been. also the ruckus i normally get in bed every night before i go to sleep had stopped almost completely. i spent thursday and friday a bit worried and then woke up on saturday in a proper state . of course it was saturday so my only option was to ring the emergency number (which i hate doing) but a lovley midwife rang me back and then came out to listen to bubba's heartbeat which was strong and dandy. it is so disconcerting when things change. her explanation was that it had probably turned round and no longer had quite as much space to kick. she also said that my anterior placenta might make the kicks/punches feel less strong as well. i am reassured (especially as the movements got stronger again late saturday and sunday) but i am looking forward to seeing it again in 2 weeks time. i knew i was going to be a bit more paranoid this time (especially about movement as that is what triggered our concerns with ds1) but it is so scarey. i am desperate for this baby to be ok. still, week 27 this week, so even if it popped out now, it would have an 85% chance of survival and those aren't bad odds are they?

has anyone else noticed that the shape of their bump has changed? mine has gone all pointy at the front - most bizzarre!!!

Joseyjo · 04/07/2005 12:38

oh and re bh - thought i was getting them, but haven't felt anything for a while, so now i am not sure!!! why is this whole business so many shades of grey - i like black and white....

Elf1981 · 04/07/2005 13:06

Joseyjo - know exactly how you feel. I had the same problem last week about movement. Felt hardly anything, getting really panicked, everytime I'd reach for the phone to call the hospital, I'd get a good kicking session. I've also got an anterior placenta (pesky thing, why couldn't I be Mrs Average and have it at the top?!) so movements are less faint than others would feel them. It does make me feel very upset at times becuase I automatically assume something bad has happened. Its not like you can take a look every now an again to make sure the little bubba is still doing okay. My problem was it was such a major change to before - no kicking after dinner, no mad flurry of kicks at lunch time and nothing while in the bath. Though having said that, I've just had lunch and got a few kicks! Sure Boo is seeing how far they can push me, and all this worry before they're even born!!

I'll be 26 weeks on Wednesday. Anybody else feeling very irrational and emotional? (Silly question, right?). I cant work out if it is just pregnancy stuff, or more to it, becuase there's been a lot of stuff going on over the past few weeks - lots of work stress, my bro had his op for cancer, my mums got an op to fix her arm from a bad fall at work, my BIL's bro died last week aged 34, so there has been a lot of stuff to deal with. Starting to re-think my maternity leave options again, don't think I'll cope working until then I initially said.
This week my whole family fly to Cyprus leaving me and DH behind, so I know I'm going to be upset next week. Got the week off work to chill out. Just feeling a little this morning. Must be that Monday Morning Feeling.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 04/07/2005 13:36

Morning people....

Well better news from the army household! DH's knee gave way completely on saturday night, so cue 4 hours in a&e sunday morning! Now in Tubi-grip from thigh to ankle and on crutches! HE WONT BE GOING AWAY.... hoorah, so he WILL BE HERE for Jessicas birthday! He's been given 3 days off to stay home and rest and then 4 days at work on light duties, ie sat on his bum doing paperwork!

I feel AWFUL, was at the NHS Walk-In centre last night, blurry vision in one eye and severe headache. Blurry vision has gone this morning but my god, the headaches havent! Spent nearly all day in bed!

fastasleep · 04/07/2005 17:47

No time to read but get the general gist! I hope you're all ok!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 04/07/2005 18:49

Blurry vision back again tonight, but the Migraine Kool & Soothe sheets seem to be helping - just look a complete div!!!

BigBumpBonnie · 04/07/2005 19:23

So sorry for all of you having a tough time at the moment. I hope things get better for everyone.

re, shape of bump, mine changes constantly but at the moment I am carrying really low. I feel I need one of those big thick elastic belt things to support the bump.

Went shopping this afternoon and the lady on the till in morrisons asked me when I was due. When I said October she looked shocked and asked am I sure there's only one in there cheeky woman. I really do feel like a bit fat elephant now.

BH still coming thick and fast but baby still nice and lively so that's good. It is worrying when they go quiet for a while.

morningpaper · 04/07/2005 19:52

Shama: To me, kicks feel like I've just rolled on top of a guinea pig.

morningpaper · 04/07/2005 19:59

I am also feeling VERY KNACKERED, more tired than I would like, spending lots of time lying on the sofa watching DD playing and desperately wishing I could fall asleep. Going to have an early night tonight! I think the blooming is definitely over!

Am also hoisting up jeans like a big fat builder and my belly is dropping over my belt like a fat man. AND I've definitely got ... an extra chin. MOOSE!

Piggiesmum · 04/07/2005 21:11

Sorry to hear so many people are feeling rubbish and tired and having all sorts of stresses to worry about.

I thought this second trimester was when we were supposed to enjoy ourselves and feel all wonderful and stuff, but I'm not convinced. I've been feeling tired too and bump is aching. The little fella is quite active too at the moment too, especially jumping on my bladder It doesn't half sting!!!!

MIL & FIL came to stay at the end of last week to help us decorate the house ready for us to try and sell in a months time. They've done a marvelous job and after a minor fall out between me and dh, MIL told me off for trying to do to much and wearing myself out and banned me from doing anything else but rest, so i spent Saturday aftrenoon relaxing while MIL, FIL, and dh worked their socks off

Got my next antenatal appt tomorrow. Hoping to get my Matb1 and hand it in quickly before I (potentially) get made redundant . Not sure whether it'll make any difference but it can't hert I suppose.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 05/07/2005 10:21

Well HOORAH! I actually feel NORMAL today! No migraine and no blurry vision.... long may it last!

fastasleep · 05/07/2005 11:10

Yay JM

Rolled on top of a guinea pig - lol!!

Saw my midwife today at the GP, everything's fine and she's pro homebirth so yaaaay

Sophia's heartbeat was 146 and sounded like a 'clip clop clip clop' don't know how that fits into anyone's theories

I'm so sad I'm grinning all over at the thought of a homebirth! Just got to get my consultant to agree at the next scan

Jockey · 05/07/2005 12:02

Hope everyone is feeling a little better today. I don't seem to have much energy at all - just sit there waiting for 7pm when my youngest goes to bed - bliss. Poor little thing - I feel like the worst mother in the world! I'd better go and do something with him in a minute...

Well done fastasleep for the home birth (these are swear words in my area). One midwife did suggest this to me when I had my son as I only just made it to the hospital in time having not realised how far along I was. I am sure this was due to being lovely and relaxed at home & lounging about in the bath. She said that if I ever had anymore not to risk it next time and simply stay at home for the whole thing - but I've never seen her again and don't know if she is still working. Good on you though, I really hope it all works out come October!

BigBumpBonnie · 05/07/2005 13:31

fastasleep, well done on the homebirth! The clip clop of the hearbeat does follow the boy/girl theory. Apparantly horse sounding indicates girl and train sounding means boy!

I also feel like a bad mum, Jockey. I always try and take dd out but just didn't feel like it today (weather, tired etc) Instead I thought we'd have a nice relaxing day in and bake the cookie mix I'd bought her. It didn't go well. I've ended up with bright green icing all over the kitchen (and dd) Many tantrums as she wanted to eat all the cookies she'd made in one go. Thoroughly stressful excercise. She's in bed now (earlier than usual, but hey needs must!) and i'm relaxing with a latte and going to slob and watch telly for a couple of hours. Stuff the housework!
