I got my BFP yesterday, AF not due til Sunday Tested again this morning just to make sure I didn't dream it.

Have been very sick already which is what prompted me to test, also very very tired.

Looking forward to seeing other people on this exciting journey

Flowery - my doctors is the same... I am thinking I'll wait until I'm 6 weeks which will be after xmas.

Tiany - Hi! It is all a bit surreal at the moment for me too!

ElusiveMoose - I haven't had more than 5 hours sleep for over a week now. I wake up in early hours (around 4) and just can't get back to sleep after that Its a right pain!

As this is my first, and I have no experience of any of our local hospitals whatsoever, I have no idea what my options are or what I would prefer. We don't even know anyone locally who has had a baby so I have no-one to ask. Feeling a bit anxious about all that...

BunnyBaby · 11/12/2009 10:44

Great news Kaylo! I've also got scan envy, had one at fetal medical centre last time as Hillingdon didn't offer one at 12 weeks. Hoping for better this time. Have a lovely day all!

Bewler · 11/12/2009 10:47

Good morning everyone! Welcome newbies and congratulations on your BFPs!

Wow Kaylo I'm so and for you! Must have been wonderful and so reassuring.

I went to the doctors for the first time today. He didn't ask me to POAS, he just gave me some leaflets, told me not to eat smoked salmon and said that skiing in January would be fine. Very business like. He thinks I'm due on 14th August although every single on-line calculator I have found puts me at 8 or 10th August. Seems I wont be referred for a scan till first week of Feb

Anyway, I'm trying to just enjoy feeling normal and put it out of my mind a little. Sometimes I wish I felt a bit more pregnant but surely its a blessing not to have my head down the bog

Crazycatlady · 11/12/2009 11:39

vix I found trawling through old threads on MN really helpful re hospital choice. Also have a look at this link for the Healthcare Commission Review on Maternity Services, you can search by hospital:

www.birthchoiceuk.com/BirthChoiceUKFrame.htm?www.birthchoiceuk.com/HCSurv ey.html

When you're a bit further along you should be able to go for a tour of the facilities too. And then if you really don't like what you see you can usually change hospitals, it's a bit of a pain but I know many people who have done it with no problem at all.

Is anyone thinking about a homebirth?

Crazycatlady · 11/12/2009 11:42

Sorry www.birthchoiceuk.com/BirthChoiceUKFrame.htm?www.birthchoiceuk.com/HCSurvey.html

vix206 · 11/12/2009 12:03

Ah thanks CrazyCatLady (I'm one of them too by the way)

I'm considering a homebirth, but I need to look into everything first. So much to consider!!

vinocollapso · 11/12/2009 12:18

Crazy - I really want a home birth, as I'm set on a water birth. Everything I read says that HB's are better, but I guess like all things, you have to be prepared to change at the last minute.

PDR · 11/12/2009 12:33

Hello everyone...

So I have some very light bleeding this morning but trying not to get too worried. I seem to remember I had some bleeding with my DS1 as well so hope it's nothing serious.

I think I am 6+5 today

Chulita · 11/12/2009 12:41

Hello ladies and beans!
Hope everything's ok PDR, some light bleeding is normal for some people.
I went to doctor's today and he just asked why I didn't phone the MW so I've been trying her number and the mobile's turned off. At the last place the GP booked me in with the MW. Grr!
I'd love a homebirth but I had a home water birth planned with DD and after a 6 day struggle she was chopped out of me. I'm not sure I want to have a home VBAC til I'm sure I can get one out normally [sigh] I'd lurve a homebirth, I did get to 12 cm dilated before I went into hospital though

ElusiveMoose · 11/12/2009 12:47

Fingers crossed that everything's ok for you, PDR. Given that I had a bit of bleeding early on, my GP told me to have a 'very low threshold' for pain or anything else, and give him a call if I had any more dubious symptoms. Might be worth getting yourself checked out for reassurance?

Blueberries, I was thinking exactly the same thing about CB tests this morning .

All you potential homebirthers, I think it's fab you're considering it. TBH I'd sooner give birth almost anywhere than at home, but that's just me . If I'm honest I listen rather enviously to my mum's tales of when they routinely kept you in hospital for a fortnight after the birth...

PDR · 11/12/2009 13:02

Thanks Chulita and ElusiveMoose I think I will just keep an eye on the situation and if it keeps going/gets worse then I will call the doctors...

Not sure that they would do anything anyway mind!

During my last pregnancy, I seem to remember I had some bleeding and cramps at around 6 weeks too and I was sent for a scan at the hospital and all was well.

Fingers crossed. It is early days tho, I know that.

EdgarAleNPie · 11/12/2009 13:18

ah well, i had my first two at home and can't recommend it enough...midwife all to yourself, nowhere to go, your own telly, kettle, bath (internet!) etc..privacy and peace and quiet. Will be homebirthing again.

if you take a look on Mumsnet local there may be other local mums willing to share recomendations too..

@chulita - do they have an online service for booking in, dja reckon?

must check my emails to see if i have anything through yet...

@PDR - hope all is well with you.

Missus84 · 11/12/2009 13:25

I went to the doctors today and she just checked my blood pressure and told me to take pregnancy multivitamins. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make an appointment for the midwife for booking in as the ante-natal clerk doesn't work Fridays.

Chulita · 11/12/2009 13:50

I can't find any info online about them at all - probs not googling the right thing. I just want to be in the system so I can look forward to the scan!

PDR · 11/12/2009 13:53

Update: my DH has booked me in for a private scan first thing tomorrow morning for reassurance. He is also coming home from work early .

Oh can't help thinking I've jinxed it by telling people (I've told 4 people in RL)!

Chulita · 11/12/2009 13:55

I went a bit crazy today and told a few people at the Surestart...grr...I should wait but I get bored of them asking "has DD been poorly, we haven't seen you for ages" and I try my best not to lie deliberately so I just told them. I'm thinking the jinxing thing now too.
Good luck on the scan tomorrow pdr!

sayanything · 11/12/2009 14:12

Kaylo that's great news about your scan!

PDR I do hope it's nothing and that the scan tomorrow reassures you. Btw, your DH sounds lovely.

I told my mum and now she's completely freaking out because we're going ahead with our trip to Africa over Xmas. She spluttered: "But you'll be in a jeep in the jungle, all that bumping up and down... I'll be here slowly dying until you get back to Europe."

Crazycatlady · 11/12/2009 14:16

PDR hope all is ok at the scan tomorrow, I know with any bleeding it's hard not to worry. Nice of your DH to come home early too.

Chulita I planned a homebirth last time too, but I got diagnosed with mild polyhydramnios (too much fluid) last time so they wanted me in hospital. It was truly horrendous!

They had me on continuous monitoring all night so I couldn't move, DD got into a bad position and couldn't descend properly, ended up as a theatre forceps delivery with shoulder dystocia, a 3rd degree tear (plus episiotomy) and then DD didn't breathe for 3 minutes and I also had a PPH. Then DD was jaundiced and wouldn't feed and we spent another 6 days in the hellish postnatal ward at St Thomas's. Awesome... So I don't know if that previous experience means I'm too high risk for homebirth? I'm going to do some investigating I think.

Chulita · 11/12/2009 14:33

Eek! crazycatlady [shudder] Certainly teaches you that plan all you want but be prepared for it to all go arse up!
I must admit that after DD I am very scared of labour...I really need to get hold of my notes and sort my feelings out about it. Just thinking of it scares me!

vinocollapso · 11/12/2009 14:34

PDR good luck - let us know how you get on - we're all coming up for scans so it'll be wonderful if we all make it safely through to the other side. Sweet of your DH to come along, too.

Edgar - right on, sister, I'm pushing for a home birth, fingers crossed it'll happen. I hate hospitals, and I just want to be at home.

KayloHalo · 11/12/2009 14:47

PDR I'm sure everything will be fine - I had my scan cos of bleeding and little pear (nickname) is fine. I'm sure your little someone is just fine too.

Blueberries You'll be fine - wish my symptoms would ease tho - scared dd to death this morning I was almost sick on her she was only giving me a cuddle!!!

RE birthing options - if it's available to me I will be opting for a water birth at Wakefield Birthing Centre. If not I'm honestly not too bothered about where or how I give birth. As long as pear is healthy and I'm ok then thats cool. Would prefer natural birth if I'm very honest - c-sections scare the hell outta me!!!!

xxxxxx

Crazycatlady · 11/12/2009 14:56

Yes good idea to get your notes Chulita, I keep meaning to do that. £50 mind...!

Have been reading the homebirth website www.homebirth.org.uk. There are stories on there about women who have had wonderful homebirths after previous assisted deliveries or CS. So it is possible I guess!

PDR · 11/12/2009 15:28

Thanks for your reassurance everyone

My DH is home already and I've had a long shower and feel much more positive now.

He's managed to wangle us a drs appointment at 4pm (fully booked my arse!) so will pop on down and see if they refer me for scan tonight (doubt it) if not first thing tomo is great - rather not worry myself sick all weekend and I work on a Sunday & Monday so actually less disruptive to go tomo with DH.

sayanything where abouts in Africa are you going? my DH is Kenyan and we lived in Nairobi for a while. I spent my first 12 weeks of my last pregnancy (not in the jungle) but still bumping about and all was well!

Will let you know what happens x

TwinkleToes76 · 11/12/2009 15:58

Homebirths are fab Crazycatlady, go for it if you can . However, I read the antenatal guide to UCH yesterday and it states that the types of complications from previous births that would make it more likely that they would suggest a planned birth in an obstetric unit include postpartum haemorrhage, shoulder dystocia and 3rd or 4th degree tears so you might have to fight for a homebirth if you really want one.

sayanything · 11/12/2009 16:20

PDR we're going to Tanzania - 6 days of safari in the Serengeti and then another 6 days or so doing nothinig in Zanzibar.

Best of luck tomorrow and let us know how you get on.
