How is everyone feeling today? I'm still very tired and tbh getting a bit fed up with it. Pfff. Mucho excitement tomorrow as we're getting everything carpeted which will be nice. We braved Benelux's biggest IKEA yesterday which in retrospect wasn't my best move - however, i) it wasn't as busy as expected and ii) it's only 2 miles away so at least we didn't have a 2 hour drive home.

I am spitting blood though. Jailbait has never been to IKEA before - except on minor buying things, so he didn't know how things worked. I need a sofa because I need to be able to lie down on my OWN sofa throughout this pregnancy without anyone bothering me... anyway - wrote down all the numbers/model etc. and went down to the warehouse where I grabbed customer service. "Where do I order my sofa to be delivered?" - "through there (the checkouts) and to the left". Of course once I got through the checkouts I realised I was supposed to load it up on the trolley, wheel it through and then arrange delivery... I couldn't be arsed to try again so I'll go back in the week. And if I see that little prick who gave me dodgy information I'll boil his head in a 6 euro pan.

I love cheese and crackers possibly more than life itself.

CUNextTuesday · 27/12/2009 11:41

I need a poo, but I don't have half an hour spare to sit and wait for it to bother so it's going to have to wait.

CurlyCasper · 27/12/2009 13:21

Cheese and crackers - yes!
Inability to poo - yes!

We really are all in the same boat... However, I cheered myself by spending Christmas money and vouchers. I am now the proud owner of the most amazing leather boots and the most comfortable, yet still good looking, maternity jeans. Seriously, why don't we wear these things even when not pregnant? sooooo comfy! also found a lovely summery maternity skirt for fuck all pounds (will drag that out when warmer weather returns), a selection of tops and three pairs of knickers - all before noon. (by which time I could be found doing a disappearing trick with a large american deli pizza at Frankie and Benny's - is this normal or preggo?)

Whacked after all that - yet I have to walk the dog, tidy the house and make dinner for SFF gets home Now, where did I put those chocolate coins...

Ponymum · 27/12/2009 14:18

Inability to poo: get Fybogel sachets! Free from GP. I haven't resorted to this yet, but they were my lifeline last time.

skihorse · 27/12/2009 16:12

Can I recommend a variety of reading material in the bog? I was stuck in the loo "some time" this morning.

skihorse · 27/12/2009 16:12

Jailbait has just pointed out that we're all living on cheese & crackers and can't poo - perhaps there is a link?

CurlyCasper · 27/12/2009 16:38

nah. I lived on C&C beforehand anyway. Beginning to contemplate MNing on the toilet...

givecarrotsachance · 27/12/2009 20:32

Maybe you should install a PC in the small room? Then you could post at the same time as trying to poo.

Anyone felt the baby move? I'm convinced I have even though I know it's utterly stupidly early, but some research has shown others feel the same. I'm pretty tuned into my body and I'm sure I can differentiate between that and "gas". Or am I losing my mind?

Maternity jeans sound good, capster. I've bought some maternity pjs from mothercare and plan to live in them permantently for the next year or so.

Made mum cry yesterday by telling her I only wanted about 3 months off work (she'd thought I'd want a year). I thought she'd be miffed at 3 months being too long...

Anyone seen Avatar? We saw it in 2D and I think we should have paid the extra - first time I think a film would be worth it.

Def got to cut down the cheese. Caught a side view of myself in t'mirror and there's a definate 4-5 month belly going on there and it's alllll food.

cunty can't believe I missed your pic on FB - it's amazing! Got my 12 week scan next week - two days after my birthday and now I'm even more excited

No baby movement here. Still can't find heartbeat with our doppler, but there's defo more blood flow in the wombular region. Really can't wait to hear it on my own, unaided!

Trying to be productive with my time off but to be honest I just want to eat and sleep. And watch films, of course.

skihorse · 28/12/2009 13:08

curly Productive? Ha! Christmas tree away yesterday, bundled everything in to bathroom/bog/utility room yesterday and had the entire place carpeted this morning. Now we're off to IKEA to get sofa/wardrobe/drawers. This is laziness on my part because I cannot be arsed to cook and we appear to have run out of Emmental , so I'm going to have the Swedish meatballs ja!

No wombles wimbeling yet carrots - not sure I'm ready for the reality of pregnancy yet.

I haven't bought any preggo-specific clothes yet and I'm a little apprehensive about doing so - I feel a little nervous about buying baby "things" yet. I will no doubt end up buying a pram in July!

givecarrotsachance · 28/12/2009 15:39

I washed my joggers this morning and the only other pair of trousers I have is a horrible crappy pair I bought cheap from Evans which are made from crappy, uncomfortable fabric, and anyway I'm trying to save them for work.

So having gone three times round the house, opening all wardrobes and going through all drawers, it got to 11am and I was nearly in tears. In the end YOB came to my rescue with a pair of his joggers and then he got upset, saying that he couldn't believe that his normal clothes were big enough for a pregnant woman! Great!

At the moment I'm just looking Really Fat which is a bit depressing

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 28/12/2009 16:33

I bought three new pairs of knickers yesterday. They all have silly pictures on them, but they are amazingly comfy. Emma, find a pair of those and go around in just your pants - very liberating!

I still think I'm fat, but SFF says he thinks its bump, so I'll go with him. Have a grand total of three pairs of trousers that fit, none of which are suitable for work. Thankfully I aready have a decent line of empire line-ish dresses and stretchy leggings. an absolute godsend - and they give me a chance to show off my lovely new boots (which I will keep talking about. When you can't wear heels, the finding of pretty, feminine boots is rare and needs to be treated as momentous)

CurlyCasper · 28/12/2009 16:34

it's

skihorse · 28/12/2009 16:58

Curly Speaking of new boots, how are your new boobs coming along?

I have two pairs of jeans which fit, although only one pair is smart enough for work. I have two smart work skirts... but only have one jumper which fits across my chest/girth - and currently NO bras which have a hope in hell of containing the girls. I do however have 2 pairs of fucking enormous pants which I could quite happily live in as curly suggests.

I'm feeling really grown-up today, the whole place has been carpeted, I've bought a new sofa and wardrobe. Now the wardrobe might not sound much but for me it's a real achievement. 2002 was the last time I had my "own" proper wardrobe... I knew that as a single woman I wouldn't be able to build my own Ikea type one, but I couldn't afford to get a ready-built one delivered, so I've been in rail limbo since then. I'm all done grown-up now!

curly Do you have a pic of the boots? I have one pair of flat boots which I hate so I'm going to keep an eye on the Duo sale. I live in heels, but am thinking maybe it's time to stop wearing 5" stillies to work...

CurlyCasper · 28/12/2009 17:20

will take one at some point and put in the other place ski.

I planned to get measured at M&S yesterday, but there weren't doing any fitting room services thanks to the sales. Saw some great looking non-wired bras, but don't want to buy without being measured (for the first time EVER!). They've not grown very much, but do hurt, especially when I first stand up to get out of bed in the morning, so I'm hopeful of some growth action. Result so far = disappointment

CurlyCasper · 28/12/2009 17:23

ski I found them online. They might not be to everyone's taste, but I heart them muchly

boots

skihorse · 28/12/2009 17:32

Oh they're gorgeous curly and what an ace price! Well done!

I can't bear the thought of going without underwire... the only way I can see that working is if it's some vile sort of minimizer sports bra which will make me look like an East German shotputter.

cheggers · 28/12/2009 18:26

i got some alright non wire ones in debenhams. while back now though.

have to go'n get fitted for another set tomorrow. already bursting out the first lot

congrats on the grown up purchases ski

we got some lovely new wardrobes a while back. before that we were using the cardboard wardrobes that were provided by the removal company when we moved. must stop living like a student now i am proper knocked up grown up!

my bump is properly wriggling at last, although i didn't feel a thing till about 20 weeks (nearly 23 now). didn't get the famous fluttery thing at first either. just felt like someone was poking me from the inside.

thought it would be freaky and alienlike but it feels surprisingly normal and comforting.

my mum said she spontaneously threw up the first time she felt it. she was on a bus. classy lady

cheggers · 28/12/2009 18:35

only 3 months off rots?? i'd feel cheated.

i've been waiting for this sabbatical since 1997!!

am going for the full year i think. how long the rest of you planning?

oh and in answer to your question from a while back ski - not massively important lol - just on a really busy project. will post details next door

givecarrotsachance · 28/12/2009 19:40

cheggars weeell, I know I'll go nuts if it's much longer anyway (and if I don't, YOB will having me at home!). I had 3 weeks with LC, but want more this time. But, I wouldn't go back 4 days after 3 months - maybe 2 to start with.

www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/ for rather prettier nursing/maternity bras. Ski I went with a Helga bra which I like better than the soft maternity ones I also bought. I live in underwire so it was a huge let down (literally) so helga was the best option. At least they look ok when dressed, if a little scary undressed.

casper I think it's bump, YOB insists its fat . Oh well.

I clearly felt LC at about 14 weeks - I remember it clearly as I was sitting in a restaurant and got an obvious, if gentle kick. Once I recognised it I realised I'd been feeling it for about 2 weeks as a more gentle flutter. That was quite early so I suppose maybe it's not impossible to feel it even this early for my second.

OP posts:
skihorse · 28/12/2009 20:33

Thanks rots - there are some rather pretty ones on there! I was also pleased to find that Freya do a maternity range too. I really miss "english" clothes sometimes but I've just found out there's a New Look in Belgium about 40 minutes away (maybe less?), so I emailed customer services and they've confirmed that they've got a maternity section there woohoo!

I have become a complete minger - this morning I walked in to town sans bra because I couldn't face foisting my tits in to what I have. I've also had coldsores now for over 2 weeks... just when I think it's going it moves a quarter of an inch and flares up again. Blooming eh?

givecarrotsachance · 28/12/2009 21:19

Ooooh how did you walk sans bra??? I can hardly turn over in bed without really hurting myself, and I'm thinking of getting nighttime bras.

OP posts:
CUNextTuesday · 28/12/2009 21:43

I got some quite nice non-wired bras in a big M&S. Bought 5 but the are all in the wash basket so have reverted to underwire which, truth be told, are much more comfortable. However, talk about being totally brain-washed into swallowing the pregnancy fascism... why is it I'm not allowed to wear underwires again??

givecarrotsachance · 28/12/2009 23:20

Quite.

I'm thinking, I ate unpasteurised cheese, drank wine and champagne, and seafood. And I'm wearing a crappy non-underwired bra?

WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?

OP posts:
skihorse · 29/12/2009 05:56

cunty Because you're going to be a mummy now, underwire is for sexy, youthful ladies who read Cosmo and have lots of sexy sex. Bring on the frump! (I don't know either and can't find an answer, but I think it's supposed to be "comfort".)

rots They're not actually that painful until I take the knackering bra off! The walk in to town was fine... the giggles from two skinny glamorous teenagers walking in to the fashion shop whish only sells skinny glamorous teen shiny clothes in size zero was less than flattering though....

Speaking of Cosmo, where is Cosmo? She can't have broken the internet already.
