rumpleteaser, head down is definitely good. Mine is transverse and lying right at the top of my uterus so I look and feel about to pop - breathless, can't eat, perma-acid etc. The bit down by my pelvis is empty, however.

So the doctor has his wife at the hospital, testing wee? Lordy. You get some pretty rum things on the NHS, but not that. When are you coming back to the UK? They might give you another quick scan when you get back, although they can't tell very much date wise later on. Scans are pretty unreliable anyway, second only to fundal measurement in their dodginess.

Hello ladies, just back from 31 week appointment, all well, baby is head down so hope he stays put .
Growth scan at the hospital this afternoon, looking forward to one more peek at the bub.
wizbit don't know if you're young or old, young I would say . If you haven't got marks yet you'll probably be OK but I know that some people get them quite late on so I guess you'll have to wait an dse...

Bettymum · 03/02/2010 14:36

sorry that should be and see not an dse. Not paying attention!

Zeeky · 03/02/2010 14:56

Hi All,

Been lurking a lot recently but not posting.

Got our first hypnobirthing class on Saturday. It's an all day thing, with another full day 2 weeks later. Looking forward to learning all the breathing/relaxation techniques so that we can start practising.

Anyone else done/doing hypnobirthing?

Baby is wriggling & kicking non-stop at the moment which is getting pretty tiring as is keeping me awake at night. It seems to be bouncing on my bladder too, as yesterday I kept getting sudden urges to go to loo. Carrying DS around is getting really hard too. He's nearly 2.5 but insists on being carried up & down stairs, and wants to be picked up all the time. Sitting on the floor playing lego or doing jigsaw puzzles with him is not the most comfortable pastime either!!

tostaky · 03/02/2010 14:59

not that i want to freak anybody out but i know someone who got her stretchmark during labour! How and why i dont know but she didnt have them before labour and got them afterwards...
though i think it is very unusual.
No stretchmarks with DS and none for this one so far either and im on the other side of 30...

I had a emcs last time but it was ok and i dont know why i am petrified about labour this time around.... ive got 8 weeks to go now and i cant help thinking about labour and everything that could go wrong....

oh well, the good thing is i'll have my baby very soon!!!!!! yay!!!

Labour is over-rated anyway, you obsess about it for 9 months and then once your baby is there, nothing but the baby matters!

pillia78 · 03/02/2010 19:24

Hello all, have been to the physio today and I don't have full blown SPD as don't have pain at the front of my groin just all round my back, hips and pelvis. Apparently I am in so much pain because my tummy muscles have split so badly, bleurgh!!!! As I am on my 3rd pregnancy it is to be expected apparently??!!! I have lots of core stability exercises to do as well as pelvic floor exercises. Apparently I will never have a 6 pack (hmm)and will find it harder to go back to waterskiing, boo hooo. Hope everyone else and bumps okay, not long to go!!!

PrincessTweetz · 03/02/2010 19:58

Poor you Pillia Might not be full blown spd but sounds bloody awful!!
I got my pram the other day...after being undecided on two pushchairs in mothercare for whole of this pregnancy, we came across the teutonia s3 at the baby farm n both loved the look of it...i have oredered my car seat, but was warned it could take 8 weeks....I'm due the same time..oops !! Planning a homebirth anyway so hopefully I won't need it to get me home from hospital!! Fingers crossed ay!!
I'm grinded against as we speak hehe...I forgot about the grinding sensation you can feel when u get bigger!! I think I need to feed him lol...off to get a nice big chunk of cake n custard...right now those stretchmarks are right out my mind!! x

tostaky · 03/02/2010 23:21

Poor pillia... well at least it should get better much quicker after the birth...

Im happy (and feeling a bit guilty) i have just booked train tickets for my DS to go to my parents (in France) for two weeks around the birth.
Im due 1st april, he will be away from the 27th march until 11th april... lets hope i dont go into labour on the 27th as DP is taking him to Paris where my parents will pick DS up (and then DP quickly comes back to London)
This is starting to get exciting!!!

rumpleteaser · 04/02/2010 07:53

flybynight that sounds uncomfortable.
Going on all the date calculations and the early scans which matched, I am still sure I'm 29, almost 30, wks.
I'm coming to the UK NEXT FRIDAY!! I can't wait to get my wee tested! WOO!

pillia split tummy muscles sounds awful and makes me cringe. Not long to go though. Did you do much water skiing before pregnancy?!

My bump is very active also and it surprises me that DP doesn't feel it at night in bed.. to me it seems to shake the bed! Or maybe it's DPs snoring that's shaking the bed.

Today I'm 25 (very stretchmarky) and have invited more people to my lil' party than we have chairs... oops.

Bettymum · 04/02/2010 10:35

Happy birthday rumpleteaser . Here is a birthday biscuit since there's no cake emoticon (should we ask HQ for one?) .
Went for my growth scan yesterday, all fine, except DH managed to take the door of the waiting room entirely off its hinges while trying to wedge it open . The midwifes did not look overly impressed.
I have low iron levels so I've been prescribed iron tablets, apparently "they're not very nice and they'll make you constipated". Oh good.

stinkypinky · 04/02/2010 11:03

Happy birthday rumpleteaser! I remember my 25th very well (good memory) Copious amounts of blue label Vodka and cigarettes (do not smoke or indeed drink Vodka, but made for a very memorable night) No chairs (had locked all furniture and valuables in bedrooms), and still caught someone peeing into the back of the hifi! Oh the good old days!

Have fun x

Snowtiger · 04/02/2010 13:55

Happy birthday Rumpleteaser! Have a great day.

Zeeky, I did hypnobirthing with DS1 and it went well - 8 hour labour, just used G&A and no tearing at all. I've just come back from my hypnotherapist's house this morning where I've been having a 'top up' session to help me do it again this time. I'm a big fan - no idea what DS1's birth would have been like without hypnotherapy but am sure it helped.

I'm feeling enormous - am officially 30 + 5 today but feel much bigger and can't believe I've got 10 weeks to go, it feels as if DS2 is going to be alogn much sooner. Not sure if that's mother's intuition or just wishful thinking. I've got the moses basket and baby car seat out, and DS1 keeps pointing at things saying "Mummy, baby go in there?" Bless him, not sure how much he really understands but he's doing his best to come to terms with it I think. He's definitely quite cuddly and a bit unsettled at the moment so he clearly knows something's up!

This sounds like a terrible thing to admit but I must ask you other ladies who already have children - do you / did you ever feel sad that the 'set up' you have with your first child is going to change? It's almost like I'm mourning the way of life we currently have. I know i'm going to adore DS2 when he arrives but it's weird, like there's going to be some little interloper coming into our happy home, and changing things. That sounds awful doesn't it but I'm sure some of you know what I mean. I hope so, I can't be the only one surely?

spaghettina · 04/02/2010 14:19

Hello again, I've been rather a lurker recently too...the whole of January was taken up with various doctor's appointments and Italian bureaucracy to try and sort out maternity allowance as a freelancer. Now I'm more relaxed, have less work on and have started antenatal classes. Very helpful, especially the dads'-only session where they convinced my partner that I had a right to want peace and quiet/privacy for the first week after the birth (as opposed to having his family visiting from day one).

Happy birthday Rumpleteaser! your Bulgarian doctor stories are very amusing but I can imagine you'll feel relieved once you get to the UK ;)

Pillia - I also have pain in back and tummy, not as bad as yours by the sounds of it but I'm now wishing I'd had proper abs before I got pregnant, walking can be painful and I feel like it's all kind of hanging out - even when I turn over in bed! oh well, only 8 weeks to go now.

Zeeky - it's not exactly hynobirthing but I've been listening to the "Gentle Birth Method" self hypnosis/visualisation CD. Very relaxing, but I don't know how much is sinking in as every time I listen to it I end up falling asleep about half way through...

I've been trying to be good and stay away from carbs and sugar - doctor's orders as apparently I put on too much weight. I've never been a good dieter at the best of times and it's especially hard here in carb-tastic Italy. Anyone else been told to keep weight down? I'd put on about 11kg at 29 weeks and apparently that's too much.

nicnacinoonoo · 04/02/2010 14:19

happy birthday rumple its my 24th on the 13th.

i know exactly what you mean snowtiger its been worrying me all through my pregnancy. we specifically decided on having another so ds would have a sibling but since i got pregnant i kept thinking, have i done the wrong thing, ds was perfectly happy before what if this messes things up. its sort of calmed a bit now though in that whatever happens, happens sense. im looking forward to the baby now whereas before all i could think about was the baby's effect on ds rather than the baby as an actual person if that makes sense. i feel a lot better about it now, i think in the end ds'l be happy to have a little sister even if it means learning to share mummy and daddy.

thedollshouse · 04/02/2010 14:31

Happy Birthday Rumpleteaser 25 seems a very long time ago!

I'm also suffering from back and pelvic pain, it is absolutely fine if I am sitting down but standing up and walking is agony. Never had this with ds1.

I had my 30 week ante-natal appointment today and baby is still breech, although he has managed to move himself onto the opposite side that he was 4 weeks ago! Midwife said not to worry at this stage as there is plenty of time for him to turn. I'm not worried ds1 was breech and I had a c-section so I have been through it before.

Blood test results also showed that I have very low iron levels (explains the fatigue and breathlessness) so I have to go on iron tablets. I am feeling very guilty because I stopped taking my prenatal vitamins at 20 weeks because I had read some recent research that linked folic acid in the third trimester with asthma. I can't find any supplements without folic acid so I am going to start taking the old ones again. Dh quite pleased that we will have an excuse to buy lots of steak to up my iron levels. I've hardly eaten any meat during this pregnancy and feel guilty that I have not been taking good care of myself and the baby. Is anyone else on iron tablets? I have heard they can cause constipation (which I already have) so have been prescribed lactose as well.

Snowtiger · 04/02/2010 14:40

dollshouse if you don't want to eat lots of meat could you increase your intake of pulses and dark green veg? If you do that and take the iron tablets the former should ensure that you don't get too constipated! I've been eating a lot of brown rice this pregnancy, for some reason, and having porridge with raisins and sunflower seeds for breakfast, and have never been more regular! (TMI, I know!) Alternatively couldn't you just take a good multi-vit with iron, rather than a pregnancy-specific one if you're worried about the folic acid?

nicnac I'm glad it's not just me, thanks for reassuring me about your feelings towards DC2. Likewise I didn't want DS1 to be an only child and have gone through the 'but he was fine, quite happy on his own why am I messing with things now?' emotions and am not at the point of thinking 'well there's sod all I can do about it now so hopefully he'll like his little brother'!

DH and his brother don't get on at all which really scares me as I really hope my two boys will be friends. On the other hand my brother and I are pretty close so who knows? I suppose worrying about it isn't going to help much anyway is it?!

Bettymum · 04/02/2010 14:46

thedollshouse I picked up my iron tablets prescription at lunchtime, the effects of an overdose sound horrendous! Not that I'm planning on overdosing.
I have been taking my pregnancy vits, but the consultant said that any over the counter tablets (including over the counter iron tablets ) just don't have enough iron in them to do you much good.
I think I'm eating less red meat than in my last pg, when my levels were fine. I'm going to try and eat more meat and leafy veg, and snack on dried apricots which are high in iron and also fibre .
Will let you know how I get on with the tablets...

Zeeky · 04/02/2010 14:56

Snowtiger - glad to hear that hypnobirthing worked for you. I really hope I can get into it. Labour last time was bearable for most of it, but went on for a long time (30 hrs in total) so was totally exhausted and stopped coping with the pain at the end. Also tore badly, probably due to inability to cope with the pain and it was too late for epidural. Was desperately trying to shut-off from everything and focus on breathing but had no idea how to, so hopefully this time the hypno-classes will have taught me how to do it properly.

Also been worried about effect baby will have on our family. DS is so used to having my attention all day long as I'm at home with him full-time. Also feel that I haven't bonded with this baby as much as I did with DS. Last time I revelled in every little twinge and didn't mind the kicks keeping me awake at night, whereas this time I'm finding it almost a nuisance as I'm finding pregnancy a lot more tiring and debilitating than last time, due to running around after a 2.5 year old. I keep telling that I will cope just fine when baby arrives, and we will embrace the changes to our family life!

Zeeky · 04/02/2010 17:09

Just had swine flu jab. DS had to have his too, and he screamed and screamed! It didn't actually hurt - he stopped crying as soon as the nurse stuck the needle in, he just didn't want it done!! Ahhh, broke my heart making him have it , but he's milking it now, sitting here eating lollipops & marshmallows and watching Pinocchio

Anyone else had it done? What were the side-effects like? Got a busy weekend so could do with out the flu-like symptoms.

Snowtiger · 04/02/2010 17:41

I decided against the swine flu jab in the end, and am thinking I might do the same for DS as he's just had the letter through from the Dr's inviting him to have it, but I think cases are starting to slow down now. Still in two minds but hard to know what to do for the best.

Zeeky our DS's are exactly the same age, 2.5, and I'm at home with mine most of the time too (he's at nursery 2 days a week). Likewise I haven't bonded with this baby much, as haven't had time / brainspace to do it, running around after a toddler and it's worried me a bit as I spent so much time and energy on my pregnancy last time - I think that's probably quite normal though. Hopefully this is all part of the 'get on with it' attitude that we'll bring to our 2nd children, the opposite of 'precious first born' syndrome - probably quite healthy really. I'm sure we'll bond with them brilliantly once they arrive. x

PrincessTweetz · 04/02/2010 19:10

thedollshouse I've been on iron tablets pretty much most of this pregnancy, but have recently changed the make. I was on iron tablets with dd, but I started them about 6 months I think, I was fine with them, slight constipation but nothing major.
The ones I got prescrbed this pregnancy were fine for about 3 months, but then I got really bad stomach cramps, to a point where I was crying with pain, foloowed by (I'm sorry!!) the opposite!! I stopped them for a week, was fine, then started therm again, and exactly the same thing happened. It was painful!! Anyway I went back to the doctors, not thinking they would really do much for me, but because I'm planning a homebirth realised that if my iron levels were under a certain level, I wouldn't be allowed to go ahead with it. My doctor changed the tablets, and now I'm fine again!!
My sister suffered the opposite when she had iron tablets in her pregnancy.. I've been on 3 different makes, and suffered with one, was fine with 2, therefore all I suggest if you do suffer bad, just go straight to your doctor to change them ..you'll be ok!! x

pillia78 · 04/02/2010 21:21

Snowtiger that makes sense and I can understand, I have 2 lovely boys and I wonder if having a 3rd is going to jinx it and the whole dynamic of our little family will change! I really haven't had the chance to bond with this bump as much as I did last time but i'm sure that will change once the baby is here....Happy Birthday Rumpleteaser! We go out on FIL speedboat every weekend during the summer so yes do a bit of waterskiing! Zeeky I had the swine flu jab and was quite poorly for a couple of days but no-one else I know had the same reaction so fingers crossed for you!
Spaghettina I know what you mean about hanging out so I asked the physio for a length of big tubigrip and I feel soooo much more 'secure'!
Anyone esle watching '8 Boys and Wanting a Girl'??? It is slightly crazy!!!

Bettymum · 05/02/2010 09:18

Zeeky I had a really sore arm the next day, had to get DH to do my bra up for me as I couldn't lift my arm up behind me . But it wasn't too bad the day after that.
DD had her jab on Wednesday (she's 2.0), she yowled a bit when the needle went in but cheered up as soon as the nurse gave her a sticker and doesn't seem to have had any after effects.

stinkypinky · 05/02/2010 10:01

I had SF jag at 16 weeks. Instant short-lived headache, plus sore arm for 1 week. Local swelling and redness. Felt so relieved after I had it done.

DD had hers 2 weeks ago. Sore arm for about 4 days, but did not stop her doing anything. No swelling or other side effects except few little marks like grazes on her back.

I am a nurse, and trust the guidance given. I am on the 4th course of antibiotics for nasty chest infection - never ever had one before, so it just goes to show how vulnerable we are when pregnant. When I first presented at GP he said 'have you had SF jag?' I said 'yes'. He said 'thank God'. If I had not, I would have been sent straight to hospital, and I honestly wonder if I would have made it, as I have been very unwell.

In relation to DD, if anything were to happen to her and I had not vaccinated her, I would never be able to forgive myself. If she does have side effects in the future, then I will deal with it, knowing I followed the recommendations.

Same applies to Babyseed. The risks of SF are real, and include death. The risks of the vaccine are unknown.

Only you can make the decision, but for me it was a no-brainer.
