Hi everyone

its so hard coming on here as everytime i open laptop Nathaniel wakes up and cries same happens if I want to read a magazine or book.

littlepea poor faith how bad of them to not have noticed it earlier and hope medicine will sort it out quickly.

HC wow good weight gain and youre going to be very busy at 8 weeks check. Check ups are at different times here,Ive got mine next week at six weeks and Nathaniel will have his at 8 weeks with the jabs. Not sure Ill give his jabs then as hell be just finishing his medication for his eyes hopefully so might delay jabs by 2 weeks or a month.

Are all babies out now? Hope everyone has good weekend x

twinklegreen good for you starting xmas shopping its not easy with a baby.Ive been getting things slowly here and ther. Sainsburys 2 weeks ago was brilliant when they had half-price toys, got loads for ds1 whos also got his birthday in December.
Don`t know wheteher to bother getting anything for Nathaniel as will only be over 2 months then.Is everyone getting baby something and what?

HT no routine as such here either and am co-sleeping too so not sure how supposed to work.I try to do E.A.S.Y from BabyWhisperer book which is eat, activity and sleep than you time, which never seems to happen.Haven`t quite got hang of it as sometimes he goes straight sleep after eating.

Nathaniel does cluster feeds too in evening and cries in between where he just wants us to hold him and walk around. Then he goes down around 9.30-10 pm and sleeps till 2-3 am and then till 5-6am would be great if I didnt have to give him hourly eye drops.DP does first half of night till 1 am and I do rest. Will need the hourly ones till Mon then hopefully every 2 hours or longer.I bet when we stop the drops hell be up all night.

twinklegreen · 14/11/2009 08:55

I though I might start a bit of expressing last week but I really really couldn't be bothered! It's not like I've got anywhere exciting to go, I'm out for a meal next week but I'll just take Amelie with me, she's so good it will be no trouble. I didn't express with dd1, tried it on one special occasion with ds and gave myself mastitis , hopefully she will be sleeping through the night soon so I can just feed her at bedtime before I go anywhere.

Can't remember who was asking about routines, I haven't tired to enforce a routine but Amelie has naturally got herself into regular habits (I find it happens more naturally when you have other children and the baby just gets taken along with their routine)She is up at 7 for a feed then sleeps till about 9, then she is awake for a bit then she has another feed about 10.30 and goes to sleep, another feed at lunchtime and straight to sleep, she wakes about 3 and has a very short feed (just a drink really) then she is awake, a proper feed at 4.30, feed at 6, then on and off feeding all evening until 10ish, then sleep until 5am where she has a very quick feed and sllep until 7... then it all starts again

Hope everyone has a good weekend x

oooh forgot to say bella I don't think we will get dd2 anything for xmas, maybe a little keepsake or something then put some money in her bank account. We really don't need anymore stuff in the house!

Hi

thanks for all the support and suggestions about breastfeeding. Sadly it didnt get any better and after a week on full dosage of paracetamol and Ibuprofen combined with industrial quantities of lansinoh, i am now expressing and bottle feeding. I was getting really depressed, crying before i even tried to get her to latch on and most of the way through each feed either from the pain or from the thought of what was to come. DP was getting really concerned as i was really not at all happy and not enjoying being a mum at all. Sophia has taken to a bottle (we have one with an orthodontic teat and very soft latex) and is putting on weight and more importantly for me, I am actually enjoying being mum - when she feeds she looks up at me and it melts my heart. Before it was just misery.

I did get her checked for tongue tie and she is ok for that. i also had midwife and breastfeeding coordinators visiting every other day and also go to the local breastfeeding support group which really helped.

hope all are enjoying motherhood - for me thats the most important thing and the last 2 weeks has taught me that my time with Sophia is very precious.

MeHimCatBlob · 14/11/2009 10:24

Forgot to say, yes, I do feel like i have failed her in some way but now at least she is happy and I am getting there.

twinklegreen · 14/11/2009 11:40

MHCB don't worry, no one on here will judge you. At the end of the day she is your child and you have to decide what is best for you and your family. I know it is not a decision anyone takes lightly and it must have been very hard for you. At least now you feel you can enjoy her. Please don't think you have failed her in anyway, she obviously has a mummy who loves her very much and that is the most important thing.
(oh and IMO if you are expressing she is still being breastfed )

Bella, how awful having to wake him up with eye drops, not what you want to be doing with a tiny baby.

We have a sort of routine, but its Georges own rather than any of my doing. Feeds and express at 2ish and 5ish and 8ish. Then he sleeps til 9 or 10am. I get up and dressed and breakfasted and do some jobs around the house. Then get me and dd a drink and snack, get him dressed and feed him 11ish. He'll then sleep til about 2pm. This is the chance to go out or do something with dd. Another snack in the afternoon 2-3ish and cbeebies for dd, (she doesn't have a nap anymore but still needs to sit still and rest)I feed George again and then I start thinking about tea. Get tea going, then feed again at 5ish. DH is home at 5.30ish, so we have tea, while juggling George between us coz this is his unsettled time. DH puts DD to bed at 7, I cluster feed til about 9 when we get him ready for bed and give him his bottle. I go to bed at 10pm and DH joins me when George is asleep.

We wouldn't get anything for George but I think dd may ask why he's not getting anything so they'll both be getting a christmas stocking from father christmas. This usually includes necesseties like a toothbrush, knickers, socks, tights, pjs. A small gift and some organix snacks. George will be getting a toothbrush, a christmas bib and a small toy or book and maybe something else I decide we're short of! For dds first christmas, she was 11 months and we got her a gold star helium balloon, it was a big hit and once it goes down you can throw it away.

peachespaige · 14/11/2009 13:08

Hi all.

Mastitis here too. Full on shakes almost fainting and fever, wonderful, came on at a toddler group I help run. Thankfully all the mums helped me out and I had luckily booked a double doctors appointment for my big boys that afternoon so I highjacked it and got anti bs.

Freddie is literally feeding all the time. He has dreadful mucus still from the birth and its hard for him to breathe so the last 2 nights he has been up every hour almost.
Thankfully he doesnt really cry just snuffles and grunts like a little piggy!

I managed to dye my hair today and have booked the hairdresser for next week, she comes to me.

I think you ladies are all doing great jobs, motherhood is hard. Feeding is hard.

All I want to do is eat chocolate but Im trying to be good as Im fed up of maternity clothes. If its true that breastfeeding helps you slim down then I should be super skinny........

Well have a good day.

smallone · 14/11/2009 13:08

Forgot to say that I nappy change mid-feed in the night. I never used to change dd at all in the night, but george seems to be a heavier wetter. I change him at 5ish. I feed him til he's settled, I have a nappy and wipes next to the bed ready so I change him really quickly by night light and put him back on to settle again. It stops him screaming the house down and it wakes him up a bit to take a bit more milk, two birds, one stone!

smallone · 14/11/2009 13:12

Peaches, sorry you and freddie aren't 100%

It is true that BFing uses more calories, but unfortunately it makes me want to eat 4x as much! I put on 1 and 1/2 stone with dd so am trying desparately to keep myself under control this time.

peachespaige · 14/11/2009 15:14

Thanks smallone.

Im not that much hungrier, just hungrier for the wrong things!!

I also use the nappy change to wake Fred up a bit.

He poos soooo much!

littlepea72 · 14/11/2009 15:14

MHCB my heart goes out to you, you really havent had an easy time of it. Please please dont think you have failed in any way. Your little one is getting what she needs, and more important, you are feeling better, nothing worse than feeling down, and it would of gotten worse, this way is so much better for you both, that bond will grow. It doesnt work for everyone, me included, and people make us feel bad if we have done something bad...all we want is what is best no matter what way it happens.

I am soooo green with with anyone who has got a routine going! Faith is more awake than asleep, at night its a fight to get her down. Saying that, the medicine seems to be working, not as much crying! Happy days!!! Last night she was up alot, but she must of been really hungry, so hope tonight will be agood one. I have to change her nappy about 4 times a night, she pees alot & poo's at least twice during the night also. I change her before the feed or i cant get her asleep again.

Chocolate is also being eatin here alot i cant stop! I think its because i wasnt allowed it in the pregnancy, so now im going crazy. So much for all the weight i have lost, its all going on again. Im going to join the gym next week, i think it should be ok 6 weeks after the c-section?

Hope everyone else is doing well, is there anyone else still be give birth??

HappyTangerine · 14/11/2009 16:02

Bella Will look up more info on the EASY routine, thanks. Joseph often fall asleep on the breast as well-somehow he manages to snore and suck at the same time! I really feell for you, having to wake Nathan up every hour.

MHCB Sophia is still getting your breast milk, its just via a different channel than the boob. You've not failed her in any way, please don't think that. You persevered through 2 weeks of agony for starters. At least now you can enjoy your gorgeous girl and not dread every feed.

Peaches Sorry to hear about the mastitis, it sounds awful. Thank goodness you had people around you. Hope the ab's start working asap and Freddie's mucus clears soon.

Good to hear what everyone is doing re routines, I'm just going to carry on in the relaxed Joseph led pattern we have. He's feeding every 1 to 2 hours at the moment, every 2 to 3 hours at night

News of the day-I have braved the great outdoors! I expressed some milk earlier this morning then left Joseph with DH for 2 hours while I went into town and bought myself some jeans and trousers that actually fit.I really missed Joseph, it felt so odd to be without him on me.DH didn't need to feed him so have put milk in the fridge.

God knows what I'll be like next Saturday. I have 2 OU tutorials on the same day so will be out from 9 to 5. Am wondering whether to just go to one though-what do you think? Its a long day at an early stage. DH wants to take me out either this Sunday or next and leave Joseph with his mum. So I could attend the Spanish tutorial on Sat morning, skip the Italian one and then go to cinema with DH on the Sun evening. Hmm. I feel so guily leaving Joseph though which I know is silly.

Sling wearers-when outside, what does your baby wear? I thought we might try a walk in the park once the weather clears up but I don't want him to overheat. Im trying to find tights in 0-3 so that hr can wear them underneath his clothes, Easy in theory but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

HumphreysCorner · 14/11/2009 16:03

Oh peaches-poor you too. Hope the AB's kick in soon.

Can't stop eating choc and choc biscuits here. Still got a stone to lose to get to pre preg weight.

Have done most of my shopping but most of it has been online as can't shop for very long with the screamer.

Unless Matthew has pooed I avoid nappy changes even though we have a night light on all night so I can see. We carry the changing mat and box up every night so everything is on hand. When M poos it usually involves a change of clothing. M awake every hour so was thinking of you all at 4am this morning.

Must pour a cuppa as so thirsty with the constant feeding.

Laters!

HappyTangerine · 14/11/2009 16:13

smallone Am right there with you in the wanting to eat 4x as much now bf!

I am almost a week on no dairy and whilst it definately seems to be making a difference to Joseph, I am finding the chocolate thing soo hard! I'm getting really bad period pains at the moment and walking round town this morning, al I could see was a myriad of flavours of Terry's chocolate orange!

Littlepea re gym, I was told gym and light exercise after 6 weeks but no running until at least 12 weeks-that's after a forceps and epistomt birth. I am aching to start running again.

peachespaige · 14/11/2009 16:53

IM BUYING A TREADMILL!!! I know I wont make both my body attack classes every week esp as Im not expressing just for the gym! So Im buying a treadmill and paying it off weekly and Ill use it for half an hour or so a night....well thats the plan. We'll save £50 a month in gym membership so will put it towards treadmill.

Try raising babys mattress slightly for those with sicky, bunged up babies, that way stuff wont sit in their throat.
Also a cloth with Karvol on it put in one of those nets that you put washing tabs in and hang it from the crib helps clear noses.

saraheb · 14/11/2009 16:58

peaches - sorry to hear about the mastitis. I can remember being ill with that when I had dd. Not pleasant. I hope the antbiotics take affect soon and it clears up quickly.

mhcb - I felt the same as you did and cried through every feed. I too had been dreading the latching on and was tense and crying at the thought of feeding - not good . I did consider giving up as I was unable to express very well, but pesevered and bought some nipple shields - even then it was very painful. Glad you are managing to express and feed that way. Sophia (beautiful name, btw) is still getting your milk - that's great. I have now been able to ditch the nipple shields and although painful for the left side which is taking longer to heal, is bearable - not like the absolutely agonising pain it was.

smallone and HT I too am 'eating for 2' now. My dh is not very understanding but I just seem forever hungry and for all the wrong things - cake, choc, biscuits, etc. I was 7lb under prepreg weight but put on 1lb this week - will have to watch I don't put much weight on and get a little more active and eat a little better (but that's easier said than done ).

peachespaige · 14/11/2009 17:05

mhcb I had a terrible experiance trying to bf ds1. I ended up with bleeding nipples that are still faintly scarred. In fact I remember the milk was mixed with blood and then finding scabs from my nipples on ds1 lip (tmi). Enough was enough, I put him on a bottle and ff him, at least you are pumping, I didnt, the thought of using my breasts for milk sent the fear of God into me.

We deserve bloody medals.

HumphreysCorner · 14/11/2009 17:40

MHCB-you have not failed in any way, you can't say you haven't tried so well done you and enjoy now.

fidelma · 14/11/2009 22:58

hi yummy mummies

i have a blocked duct today so feeding and massaging to avoid mastitis.

Connor is asleep on his sheepskin in a lovely white sleeping bag from the White Company,in front of the fire.Very peachy!!!

I am 10lb heavier at the moment.I am also eatting alot of chocolate. In the past I have always lost all my weight within 6 months without really trying.just with lots of breast feeding.I walk the children back from school a mile up hill (and a mile down for me)with Connor in the baby boirn sling 2 or 3 times a week.It does make me a little exhausted.

I will also do a little Christmas for Connor as the other children would wonder why santa hadn't left anything for him.

Back to the breast feeding I am sure that I read somewhere that it uses up about 600 calories a day.Does anyone know if this is correct, it certainly feels like it does.

I also feed every 2 hours throughout the night and am also up sometimes dancing in the kitchen with Connor it keeps my spirits up when he really wont sleep.I always wonder who eles is up.

If you want to see some good singing look on you tube the voca people it is amazing.

rubyslippers · 15/11/2009 08:56

morning all

MHCB - can only echo what the others have said but have a little

Fidelma - hope your massaging works. I was up every 2 hours last night. Ruby is one hungry girl ... i can hear her gulping it down

BF does use about 500 calories - i am soooo hungry - ravenous in fact but keep eating cake rather than fruit!

not sure how long i can keep going TBH - so tired i am starting to suffer

peachespaige · 15/11/2009 09:07

Morning all, I hope last night was better.
Fred finished a feed at midnight then woke at 2.20 which is good for us, then fed then woke an hour and a half later and so on. Not too bad really!

Well I still have 1 stone 6 pounds to lose, so basically all the weight I put on whilst pregnant. I only lost a stone when he was born. With ds2 I lost a stone and a half, I guess I wasnt carrying as much fluid etc this time just more fat!!
Its actually starting to get me down now. Im desperate to buy new clothes. All my friends and the women in my family are so glamerous that I feel very dowdy around them.
I dont mention how I feel in rl as everyone says "he's only 4 weeks old" and it sounds so shallow.

fidelma What a hard life Connor must have, all wrapped up in front of the fire!!!

CalypsoFramboise · 15/11/2009 11:42

MHCB You sound like you've made a tough decision, but if you feel happier, then its definitely the right one. I'm sure that sophia will enjoy her happy mummy more too

HT congratulations on your shopping trip! I haven't yet had the chance to pop out sans baby, sounds like fun. I'm in awe that you have the mental let alone physical capacity to start a degree now! (My brain has turned to mashed potato, who knows how I'm going to finish my PhD in 4.5months time
slings and baby clothes - hmm tricky one. Depends on what I'm doing (ie if I'm walking far I tend to dress her less as we both get way to hot!) she wears: long-sleeved under-vest, all in one baby grow, socks underneath and a velour over suit, which has no feet so she wears little soft shoes. She wears a hat too and I sometimes pull up the velour suit hood.
Have put a photo of Anna in the warm fleece sling yesterday. I hope you really enjoy wearing Joseph out and about
And I'm buying a sports bra this week, no way can I fit into my old one, and I was planning to run again soon (if my pelvic floor holds ), 12 weeks - really?! GAH. Episiotomy is still a bit achey so can't quite face the sadle of my racer!

peaches wish you a speedy recovery with the horrid mastitis

fidelma the Voca people - haha, amazing!

Woke up at 3am with the most engorged right breast, tried to ignore it, but went to express as didn't think Annalise would be feeding for another 2.5hrs (as she usually goes 4hrs during the night) and hurt like hell, pumped off 100ml in 5mins and Anna woke for a feed, and subsequently every hour. Seems boob had a premonition! Hope milk supply evens out soon, I'm sure that Annalise's clicking / bad latch is due to over-forceful letdown still. Hope to see a BF counsellor tomorrow, its really frustrating (and uncomfortable)
ps: littlepea Some posters on the bf thread have suggested that it's thrush - what exactly were the symptoms?

Off to the hydropool again in 1 hr - so excited Annalise has her new red lizard swimming nappy to show off!

rubyslippers · 15/11/2009 12:43

fabulous picture! she looks so cosy

devilsadvocaat · 15/11/2009 18:30

charlie 7 weeks now, have been out for a few light jogs. soooooo good.

still have 1.5 stone to lose. also feeling frumpy and want to get in my pre-whale clothes.

charlie also has the clicking sound when feeding. my nipples are still a bit sore and he gets very windy so wondering if i should get my latch checked too. i did wonder if it was due to a quick let down. CF how do you get a bfc to come over?

have about 5 feeds saved in the freezer now, am debating whether to try to go out sometime for a few drinks...
