pav yeah, that does sound a bit ominous...

raggie · 23/10/2009 12:18

Hello everyone! Been away for a couple of days, busy busy as last day at school today. The children are making me a bit emotional and have a big staff-room send off in about half an hour...

Congratulations tamlin! And welcome...Felix Peregrine! So kind of your doula too - she's one to keep in touch with!

lissy hope something happens for you soon. Sounds awful feeling something's going to happen then it doesn't. Although, with the few twinges/backaches I've been having recently (and panic setting in afterwards!!) think I'll appreciate a few false alarms to get my head round the idea before the real thing. Fingers crossed I ave a few weeks of twiddling my thumbs on mat leave to go yet!

skorpion, beepbeep as of tomorrow, I'm officially an Oxfordian . Have first antenatal class at Boars Hill next weekend then another two all weekend following. Crisp autumnal walks to get things moving anyone...?

ursigurke · 23/10/2009 13:08

well, still no internet here, just tried to read the last 10 pages.
and no news here, still feeling fine, nights are getting a bit difficult, I seem to be a bit restless, wonder why [wink}
tamlin, congratulations!!!! And what a story! I agree with you, we shouldn't be scared to touch ourselves, after all, it's our body. But I had been told that it is impossible to find out ourselves about the cervix and had just accepted it. I thought that probably it's just too far inside. Or do you have unusual long fingers? Anyway, I won't try now as I think there is always a risk of infection and as I don't feel like I will give birth soon, I guess it's better to wait until i'll see the midwife next week, one day before the due date. Hopefully she will be checking then.

Comma2 · 23/10/2009 13:10

Ooh tamlin, your doula sounds really lovely! Defintitely a big present in order!
And Peregrine, isn't that a sort of falcon?

All my nice promising signs of impending labour have gone away, despite walking, scrubbing more floor and vacuuming everything in sight.

beepbeep · 23/10/2009 13:11

Raggie - Welcome to Oxfordshire!! Have only been down here 7 years myself, from Yorkshire originally, but it's a lovely county and Oxford is a great city, hope yu'll be really happy here. Good luck with the final move tomorrow.

Nothing happening here, really uncomfortable and pelvis is really aching but that's that!

Am waiting in for a parcel from Additions Direct (assume via DHL or someone) but time given was between 7am & 6pm , booked it for today as also waiting for electrician, but he's been and gone. Really need to pop to supermarket as was hoping to do a chicken saag and a dhaal for the freezer, but need some more lentils and a bit more spinach -had chicken & spinach I have all cut ready to go since 8 this morning!!

ErikaMaye · 23/10/2009 13:16

Lissy enjoy your day with your family

Tamlin that's the sweetest thing ever!! Bless her. Get her a fantastic hamper and pamper stuff... I'm really quite touched! Though that might be hormones admittedly And I think that's a very nice name actually

Skorpion thanks for that, I might have a look on amazon see if they have a cheap copy for him Its a really big thing because its tied into his weight issues as well. I'm so proud of him for even trying.

Pavlov umm... yes

I really want Ben and Jerrys... And McDonalds

Should probably do some more cleaning... I bought a load of cleaning supplies yesterday. DP is getting a hoover this weekend whether he wants one or not

Laugs · 23/10/2009 13:31

raggie Good luck with the move and I hope you get a good send off!

Lissy that's really kind, thank you. The problem is we don't drive so it would be hard to get DD to anyone's house when in labour... I think I might just have to move my mum up for the couple of weeks when labour might be imminent (Not sure what DH would have to say about that, although he seems to be panicking more than I am at the moment)

Hmm - I was just bending down and I'm sure I felt the baby's head engage... I don't remember it being something I could actually feel, I thought it was quite a gradual process? When I stood up I had to walk like I'd just come off a horse; had some pain and felt really sick for a minute The nausea has gone but I still feel a bit strange and waddly!

If anyone needs something to do with toddlers, DD and I just made these Ham and Courgette Scones for lunch - they were very easy and and there was quite a lot of it that DD (3) could do herself. We've both just scoffed ours and are eyeing up the baking tray for more - so I'd call them a success

skorpion · 23/10/2009 14:06

raggie Welcome! We're new to the county as well, only been here for just over two years (moved from Chesham in Bucks). We're both loving it. We actually live closer to Banbury than Oxford, but I work at the Uni and really do love the city.

Hope the move goes well and give us a shout when you're settled (before or after popping) if you fancy a walk around the city. (Shhh... my magic Uni card gets me and guests in to college grounds and various Uni buildings)

Ladies, tip for the day: a good scrub of the oven and floors does wonders for the mood. Too early for me for labour to start, so no worries there.

Had another tip of the day on Tuesday that I don't think I got round to posting: two and a half Costa blueberry muffins in the space of 4 hours doesn't do you any good. No matter how delicious...

mumsiebumsie · 23/10/2009 14:40

Skorpion my oven is in desparate need of a clean. May tackle it but having never cleaned an oven before (mum usually does it ) wouldn't know where to start. Any magic product or cleaning cloth advice?? Or is it just good old elbow grease.

skorpion · 23/10/2009 14:51

mumsie it was a bit experimental for me but I used soda with white vinegar. You do need to scrub, but no chemical fumes to get high on. Aparently this mixture can be used on pretty much anything. Have fun!

skorpion · 23/10/2009 14:52

Oh, and don't let it alarm you - it bubbles like mad when you first mix it!

Trikken · 23/10/2009 14:59

oh yes, skorpion that works well.

Just got back from seeing mw, all is well with bubba and is 2/5ths engaged, so all good. made an appt for two weeks, as long as I last that long.

southernbelle77 · 23/10/2009 15:51

As sad as I may sound, thinking that tomrorow when dh takes dd out, I might actually scrub the oven!! How much soda and white vinegar do you use skorpion.

DD had (another)inset day today so we have been busy. We got up late (god that was nice, even though I didn't sleep so well) and then had a lazy breakfast. We've since made chocolate chip cookies (very scrummy!), done some of dd's 'homework' on Edu-city, read her reading book, been to the park and had a music show with pots and pans

Having a bit of obsession frenzy today and not wanted to see any mess anywhere! Done 3 loads of washing to get it all out the way, and every time I see any specks on the floor or tables I've had to get the dustbuster and clean them up!

southernbelle77 · 23/10/2009 16:00

Oh Erika don't mention Ben & Jerry's! I could really eat a tub of cookie dough or fish food right now! Oh hoover shopping too! I really am a sad case, but even looking at hoovers gives me a sense of satisfaction right now, let alone using one

Tamlin that is really nice of your doula, what an angel. When I first starting reading your message I was worried it was going to turn out badly, but so lovely to read the opposite.

beepbeep hope your parcel turns up soon. I hate having to wait in all day for things! Not that I'm impatient or anything, lol!

beepbeep · 23/10/2009 16:05

Our oven is disgusting, the oven cleaner from Lakeland is brilliant stuff also, but does let off some nasty fumes - good excuse to leave it to DH!

Trikken - glad all's well.

skorpion · 23/10/2009 16:17

southern no measurements at all. I just put some baking soda in a bowl and poured enough vinegar to make a runny mixture, dipped a non-scratch scourer and scrubbed like a loon. I think if you wipe it on the grime first and leave for a bit it works better.

beepbeep I used the Lakeland stuff before and it is good. Can't leave DH to do it though, as I get all the disgusting jobs around here.

beepbeep · 23/10/2009 16:37

Skropion - DH will do it, I just have to wait nearly 6 months from when I first ask!! Will prob give your vinegar & baking soda a go - that way it may get done before christmas!

BeckyBendyLegs · 23/10/2009 17:00

Hello all!

mumsiebumsie my oven needs a clean too but I can't face it...

I've had such a bad hair day. I've scratched the car on a gate post and DS1 had the hugest tantrum ever at a drop-in centre this morning (no school today so we all went along to play). He was vile. He stamped on my foot and hit me. I was in tears driving them home.

But cheered up now after a yummy Rollo Doughnut (go to Tescos cafe if you want one). Oh it was divine. DS1 has apologised and he does feel bad but he just saw red (it happened because it was time to tidy up and he didn't want to).

Laugs ham and courgette scones look nice

I think my indigestion has got mildly better so perhaps baby is making it's way down at last.

I wonder if we'll have any more babies next week? We're getting so close now! Oh My God!!!!! We really are having babies!!!!

Trikken · 23/10/2009 17:01

i mix the soda with water to make a paste then rub it on, til in all thw corners and yukky bits, then pour on the vinegar and spread it round, makes a nice fizzing noise, then wash it off with warm water, is marvellous.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 23/10/2009 17:34

Anyone with any spare oven cleaning enthusiasm, come on over to our place. Its not toooo bad, honestly .

I pulled a muscle in my groin picking up DD this afternoon. Not bad, and eased after a short while but made me realise I can't really pick her up any more not for a while anyway, and she so wanted cuddles .

Braxton Hicks stepped up a gear today, and some lower pressure too, wonder how quickly things can change from floating/showing no signs of coming out to being ready . I don't think he is ready yet. I am not ready, I need more time. Another week, maybe another 10 days, for place to be done and for everyone to leave me the alone to rest and chill out and then I will be fine .

peregrine, you know I think I sort of like it, in a querky kind of way. It would not be unusual to hear that kind of name down here in the south west, there are peregrines nesting here in some woods and they have spotting stations to look at their nests and last year you could see the babies, amazing (yes they are falcons).

skorpion · 23/10/2009 17:53

pavlov I think I'm done with ovens for today, thank you.

DH is away seeing a mate tonight so how's this for a plan: hot bath, Dirty Dancing, Coraline, home-made popcorn. Maybe bubble and squeak for dinner. With a fried egg. Blockbusters are doing any 5 films for a tenner if you'd like to join me in the mambo!

kyte me too. Its not so much that I am too big, but rather i have no energy to lift myself upright again, as we have a very deep long bath (which in theory is bliss) this means I end up turning into a prune before hollering at DH to help me! I don't atttempt it on my own any more!

skorpion · 23/10/2009 19:24

Well, it does take a lot of groaning and turning, but it's still manageable. Give me a couple of weeks and it may take some advances in engineering to get me out.

I hope you have a nice evening - sleep well. Patrick, get your feather boa and follow big mamma to the dancefloor!

Trikken · 23/10/2009 19:42

I need help out the bath too, last night ds woke up as i was bathing and his bedroom is right next to the bathroom so he yelled down the stairs "daddy! mummy needs help getting out the bath!" sweet he wanted help for me.
