becky it was bad for DH's too, but for different reasons , we have come to the conclusion that take away pizza is not actually food.

hobnob57 · 20/10/2009 11:29

No internals here until a sweep required!

I've still got uncomfortable BHs a lot. However, my pelvis is feeling a lot better after settling down overnight and is much less clicky. Yay for the osteo!

Got to share my comedy gold moment from this morning whilst I was being a lazy mum: DD woke when I went to the loo at 720 and came for a cuddle 'till 8. I sent her off to take her nappy pants off whilst I waited for baby to move into a better position for getting up. In the end I had to jump out of bed as she came back in to put her PJ bottoms back on, and them promptly crashed head first into the wardrobe as she had put 2 legs into one and tried to get up . No harm done and we were both laughing our heads off.

She later annoyed me by faffing with the stuff on my bedside table when I was dozing wasn't looking and managed to spill my pint glass of water over my bedside table, pillow, wallpaper and carpet under the bed. I got cross and sent her out for messing with my things. When I'd got dressed and organised I went through to her room where she was doing puzzles and she said without prompting 'I'm so very sorry for spilling your water'. Aaaahhh. And she had been for a wee in her potty with no mess. Not such a monkey after all. Got to love them when they are being sweet.

Poor Pavlov that sounds horrible. Hope you can catch some rest today!

Ninja it is true that heavier babies fall out. Also, is not so much weight but head circumference that counts.

Fruitpastels no seriously, I am so envious of you even though I know its rotten to be up at night with pain. It probably still dilates you so takes away from monster labour in the end! We have the same due date, and I have nothing, nothing going for me....and I have to get this baby out before my doctor leaves for vacation on the 2nd and leaves me in the hands of strangers...no bloody chance.

Anybody have an uplifting story of how their labour just started suddenly??

Laugs · 20/10/2009 13:00

ooh is anyone else hoping for a big baby after all these 'falling out' stories?

Becky have you made your halloween outfit yet? If not, you could just be a pumpkin with an orange t-shirt and green hat. I think that is what I'm opting for for DD's birthday party (on halloween)

ninja I am trying to think about Christmas to avoid thinking about the baby too! It's not really working, though I have found all the lovely Christmas books I can't wait to read DD again (one of my favourite bits of Christmas)

The manager at DD's nursery had her baby this morning - she had been at work yesterday, went into labour in the night and her DH had to deliver the baby at 5am. She was only due 10 days before me... it's starting (slowly) to sink in...

Oh and, perfect timing, DH got the dates for his next lot of exams: 30 Nov and 3 Dec (I am due on 26 Nov ). He's asked for a dispensation to sit them at another time, but if he doesn't get it he either has to do them then or wait another year.

Sorry for all of you having false alarms. At least you know things are moving in the right direction and your body is preparing itself.

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/10/2009 13:31

Laugs DS2 wants to go as a rabbit (?). We already have a rabbit costume I made for DS1 a couple of years ago. Not very scary but very, very cute!!! The pumkin idea is good and I did suggest a pumkin to him and he said no!

I'm donating some pickled onions and cabbage to the Harvest Festival. I hope those that are lucky enough to get our food like pickles!

DS2 is very excited right now because DH is taking him to the tip! Oooooh oooh!

Laugs · 20/10/2009 13:36

Oh - I thought you had to make a costume for yourself? Ignore me!

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/10/2009 13:44

I'm just going to wear a black maternity dress, big boots and a witches hat!

raggie lets hope this dropping out stuff is true. Comma I will let you know in December if it's correct. DS did not drop out in the slightest (9.12) but I had an epidural which I will try not to do this time in the hope of keeping gravity on my side.

I went e-bay crazy today and bought a snow suit, a monsoon coat and a little cardigan for the babber. A whole £10 worth of goodies

Laugs I am humming "Little Donkey"

Kyte Belated Happy Birthday glad you had a good weekend!

claire21 I didn't have any internals until I was in labour with both my others and haven't had any this pg so far (36 + 3)

LissyGlitter · 20/10/2009 14:59

Painful contractions here, but not regular at all, so I'm thinking they are BH combining with my already bad back to hurt more than usual. Last night I just felt...odd. Kind of restless, just couldn't settle down at all. I started getting excited, but then when I did get to sleep, the contractions stopped. I was having the weird discharge again (sorry if TMI) which was kind of watery, and more was coming out with each contraction, but apparently this is not waters.

DP has been given some shifts to work this week, which is brilliant. We probably won't be much better off money wise, as they are only little shifts and of course we won't get benefits for this week, but I reckon it will do him the world of good. Still no news on this full time job that might be starting in November, but fingers crossed.

My parents are coming to stay (and bring us a second hand tandem buggy they have bought us) on friday night, and they will take DD back to theirs till Tuesday, which she will love. I'm jealous, because I am getting homesick, but at least I get to see my parents. I've not seen my grandparents for about two months now, which is probably the longest I have ever been without seeing them. My Grandad is too ill to travel (well, he could probably travel, but needs too much equipment and help to be able to stay over and coming here and back in one day would be too much for him) and my Nana insists she can't come as she has to look after him (in reality, I'm sure my mum wouldn't mind her coming over for a couple of days, since it is my mum who does the physical caring, my nana does the cooking and cleaning and general watching bit). I miss them loads, especially since they aren't so good at using the phone nowadays due to having bad hearing and being generally alarmed at the concept of talking on a phone for any length of time. Plus I am very concious of the fact that my Grandad is nearly 97 and in failing health, so we probably don't have much time left with him. I will be straight over there as soon as I get the all-clear after the birth. When we were kids, we would be round theirs every day while my parents worked, and they now live with my parents, so we are very close.

Fruitpastels · 20/10/2009 15:16

Comma Is this your first baby? sorry I can't keep up with everyone. My DS was a couple of days early and came without any warning, no show, no waters breaking. I recall being in an off mood that day and had not eaten that well. Hope that gives you some faith that babies can just suddenly arrive hopefully before the 2nd in your case!

Fruitpastels · 20/10/2009 15:20

I've just gone and bought a nice juicy pineapple-yum! All this talk lately of pineapple on this thread has got me craving, as well as secretly hoping it will move things along

LissyGlitter · 20/10/2009 15:27

Oh, and my first ever internal was when I was in labour with DD (I know, I know, I should have had sexual health checkups before that, but I was a daft young thing who didn't even think she would get pregnant from unprotected sex) Between babies, I have had internals, and they are just uncomfy, as opposed to the painfulness (or is that just me?) of internals whilst pregnant or in labour.

beepbeep · 20/10/2009 15:45

Comma - I was shopping up at Bicester Village (for those who know it!) the day I went into labour with DD, my first, had had a few BH but nthing major, then got a few twinges in my back (nothing bad) just felt a 'bit off' and like fruitpastels didn't fancy anything to eat. My labour was 4hrs 20mins, no waters going, no show or anything until I got to hospital when she was born 30 mins after we got there - though wouldn't reccommend that as I was in a bit of shock (expected it to last for hours!) and I think it affeted the way I bonded with her. DS was even quicker, has very small show 3 hours before he was born, again no waters going or anthing, but at least this time I knew it would prob be quick and knew what was going on, so didn't leave me in shock!!

Have a pic of DH holding a newborn DD still in his work uniform with a look of 'what the hell just happened?' on his face!!

southernbelle77 · 20/10/2009 16:11

All this talk of BH, contractions and twinges makes me want to have my baby now!!! Went shopping earlier (which was silly, but got lots of bits in primark so quite please!) and had a funny turn in Mothercare! Came over all funny and dizzy. They had to get me a chair and a glass of water! Felt very very silly, but they were very lovely about it! Think it was just me doing too much (figured it was the last time I was really going to be able to go somewhere without anyone nagging me ). All fine and the rather strong BH that I was getting did stop once I slowed down and had a rest! Never really go to Primark, but after reading about everyone's bargains on here I decided to try it out! I spent £35 and got some PJ's for me (was it the black with white star ones that everyone was getting?!) and a dressing gown for the hospital. Also a big wooly cardigan for £7 which I'm using as my coat as I am not buying a maternity one now! Also got DD some nice warm PJ's and vest and knickers and things. They don't do nursing bras in there though so ended up having to spend more than I wanted and got them in M&S instead!

Does anyone else feel a bit funny buying alcohol with an enormous bump? I just went to the shop to get a bottle of cider for a casserole and suddenly came over all self-conscious, trying not to look like the kind of woman who buys 2 litres of cider from the corner shop in the middle of the afternoon. Though, as someone else suggested, the falling-down maternity jeans and ill-fitting coat probably did just as much for my bag lady look as the bottle of scrumpy!

Ninjacat · 20/10/2009 16:51

Laugs you should have seen the looks I got in Sainsburys buying 3 ltrs of value gin

I just smiled sweetly at the checkout person. Did wonder if I would even get served.

(Was making sloe gin for christmas)

I feel very odd buying alcohol in this state yes!! but you still gotta cook and have a slurp (god bless Floyds soul)...and ofcourse ninja the all important Sloe Gin...YUMMERS..

Not sure about these big babies falling out (9.1 no epidural)..mine didn't it was like pushing, pushing and more pushing. However her head was enormous so maybe thats why. This one's head is enormous but at 37 she is 6.6lbs so we'll see, she may be more "normal"..

Lissy hope you're better and get to see your grandparents soon in more relaxed conditions.

I am now getting worried...3 or so weeks till I see the baby and face the music and have no sleep..am nervous..is anyone else...? Going to think about Christmas instead like you laugs..bought a lovely Boden woolly dress (vouchers I got for my b'day) to be delivered to Belfast ready for me to wear at Christmas.
Woo Hoo...lets hope I don't get milk stains on them!

Laugs · 20/10/2009 17:29

at the 'value' gin. I did deliberately make sure I didn't buy the cheapest cider (even though it all tastes the same in a sausage casserole), so I didn't look too much like a drunk! I picked one with pictures of apples on it, rather than lightning strikes

sleepless I have been eyeing up clothes that will look nice post-bump too.

I tried to get DD to choose a Christmassy DVD at the library today, but she was having none of it so had to give it a miss.

Lissy I hope your contractions either calm down or speed up! You do seem to be having a lot of false alarms, so you must be getting close.

Oh I can't remember who was reading The Triplet Diaries but I read it at the beginning of this pregnancy (pre-scan, I obviously convinced myself there were 3 of them in there) and it's a great read.

Is anyone else reading any good books? I need something light and easy to read at the moment, but I'm not really into chick lit etc. I realised last night that in the book I was reading the woman was going to lose a baby at birth, so I couldn't carry on with it. Then I picked up two other books, and in both of them, the characters lost their mothers in childbirth/ when they were v young. It's all sweetness and light on my bookshelf so any recommendations would be gratefully received!

Laugs · 20/10/2009 17:32

ps sleepless I am nervous too. [weak and wobbly ]

Claire I had an internal at about 40 weeks to do a sweep to try and get things moving, but the midwife did warn me about it when I saw her the time before. I'm hoping they always do!

claired21 · 20/10/2009 17:42

Some advance warning of internals would be nice. At least that way I could try to tidy up down below... or persuade DP to do it for me. The joys of pregnancy eh?

Have eventually decided on reusable nappies and placed our order this afternoon. Decoration of the nursery is now finished. Hopefully will complete shopping for hospital bags this weekend. Getting organised at long last! Someone I know is 14 weeks pregnant and already has her pram, nursery decorated and furniture bought, and dates finalised for her maternity leave. Puts me to shame.

Still feeling stressed out and emotional today. Must be the hormones. Someone hurry up and announce a new arrival to cheer me up!

Laugs · 20/10/2009 17:49

I know what you mean claire. I am going to have to ask DH to do some waxing/ shaving, but unfortunately (for him) it's been out of sight out of mind for me, for quite a while...

I did think to wear a dress when I had the sweep, which meant I felt a bit more covered up than if I had nothing at all on the bottom half.
