I think too that even babies need their own passport. I've just checked the homepage of the Austrian Ambassy. So we need the British Birth Certificate plus a Translation thing plus lots of proof of our identity to get the civilship (before applying for the passport I suppose). That will be really fun. When we got married I kept my maiden name for which we had to apply (lots of paperwork included, in Austria the law regarding names is really strict). We then got married in London. I am so sure that will cause troubles. Luckily we kept a copy that I didn't change my name because this paper is somewhere in a register office in Vienna. I can just perfectly imagine us not being able to get that passport before christmas and my inlaws finding out it was all because I had "rejected" taking their beautiful name and keeping my own stupid one
Anyway, my internet connection is running out, so hopefully not too many thing happen in the next couple of days

southernbelle77 · 15/10/2009 16:52

Just read that thread Hobnob. Interesting to read about what they have put there. It's just so hard to know what it best to do. I don't want to keep waiting as I'm in pain (although clearly not as bad as poor Pie in that thread) and I'm getting quite depressed (have actually been a bit concerned about prenatal depression ) which is causing me to be really unhappy. As it goes, I've not heard back from the midwife so I guess I will just have to have the appt with the horrible consultant in two weeks time and take it from there!

ErikaMaye · 15/10/2009 17:09

I've just messured myself as my bra was getting rather uncomfortably tight - and no bloody wonder, my rib cage has expanded by four inches So have been wearing my normal 32 when in fact now need a 36. Ouchie!!!

I want cake. And we have none.

BeckyBendyLegs · 15/10/2009 18:04

Hello all! Lots of bra talk today. I need to get myself measured for nursing bras. Might take DS2 to M&S tomorrow after nursery. He'll love that!

Just back from Hippos in Water. Lovely. Had a busy day as I went along to the BURPS drop-in as well (a drop-in for advice on breast feeding). It was nice to know there is some support near here for when I try again with the old breast feeding lark! There were so many little babies there I felt very impatient about mine - hurry up little baby!!!

Tamlin · 15/10/2009 18:42

Well, it appears that it's actually too dangerous to attempt ECV on a footling breech, and the junior doctor who saw me yesterday should never have booked me for one. This means that I spent most of the day starving and parched only to be informed by a consultant after an hour on monitors and yet ANOTHER scan that whoops, it wasn't an option. At this point, I reacted about as well as a grizzly bear newly woken in the spring.

The first consultant - whom I did not like as he played the 'dead baby' card far too readily and clumsily, and airily dismissed any concerns about a caesarian as if they were the safest things on earth - said that he personally did not support breech birth. I then asked for a second opinion, and some sandwiches. So we then sat around in the labour room waiting for them to rustle up the Head of Midwives and another consultant and eating sandwiches while I sulked. And then the second consultant came in and said more reasonably that while he'd do a rump breech, he wouldn't do a footling, and alas, it's very rare that a footling shifts itself (he said 'Never say never!' in dubious tones). I have another scan booked for next Wednesday to confirm the position - if he's shifted his feet, they'll try an ECV on Friday, and if he hasn't, they're taking the baby out via the sunroof (which still has risks as apparently footling breeches can make even sections tricky). Regrettably, I think that this date will make the baby a Scorpio.

If I go into labour in the next week, I have to put my bottom in the air and get to hospital asap before I dilate and any feet or cords drop down. That should make for an entertaining car ride at least.

My doula, bless her, has come up with the name of an acupuncturist who's got some record with turning breeches. I'm usually a bit sceptical of alternative therapies, but right now, I'm feeling a bit desperate.

(Sorry to be all mememe, my head's a bit full of stuff right now. Until yesterday, this was a low-risk pregnancy.)

Ninjacat · 15/10/2009 18:53

Sorry to hear that Tamlin.

Don't worry about the Scorpio baby though. We are lovely despite our reputation.

BeckyBendyLegs · 15/10/2009 18:55

What is the Scorpio reputation? DS1 is a Scorpio and I think he's lovely

Tamlin the acupuncture is worth trying.

tigger32 · 15/10/2009 18:59

Hi still trying to catch up, but just wanted to say lissyglitter both my ds's were born in different counties to where we live, we had to register them at our local office and then they requested birth certificates from the other county, only problem is you have to rely on the postman to deliver the birth certificate!! (Saying that though, things may have changed in the last 3 years)

Fruitpastels · 15/10/2009 19:10

What a day for you Tamlin Sorry to hear the news. I'm sure whatever happens it will work out for the best. It's lucky you know now what the baby is up to rather than at the birth and not prepared yourself for the CS. My DS is a scorpio as well, he is lovely

ErikaMaye · 15/10/2009 19:16

Tamlin how very frustrating for you! I hope the next scan reveals more positive news. Have heard fantastic reviews about acupuncture though, for all sorts of things - is definately worth a shot. And hey, if nothing else, it will be peaceful and calming for a while.

Have you seen we're once again in the weeks hottest threads on boardreview? Congratulations ladies.

Am feeling all soppy... DP just text me saying " Love you... xxx "

scarlotti · 15/10/2009 19:27

Tamlin sorry to hear how your day has gone. I've had great results with acupuncture in the past so it's worth a shot.

Was supposed to be going to see a friend tonight but am just too tired! Will have to see her at the weekend instead. Looks like I've entered the home from 7pm stage!!

wook · 15/10/2009 19:30

Oh Tamlin that sounds like an awful day with unsettling discussions. The thought of you having to be driven to hospital upside down is
Who knows, the acupuncturist may be worth a try- I was never one for alternative therapies but I reckon acupuncture has its merits and has been shown often to work on turning breech babies I think. Don't they light a candle near your toe or something? I'm not even sure any needles are involved.

Cut off date for Libra is on the 23rd, Scorpio starts 24th so isn't next Fri on the cusp? Anyway, just think of all the cool Scorpions: Katherine Hepburn, etc

Lissy I would still recommend the Caboodle rucksack, it's about £20 and v unisex and spacious.

I wouldn't worry about Geordie accents, my ds has a Norfolk accent which, no offence to any East Anglians, is a bit sing song and daft sounding at times. To my (Sussex) ears, all Northern accents sound amazingly cool!

Laugs I am with you on the breastfeeding tops front- big cardigans, ponchos, wrap cardis, long sleeve jersey tops beneath, all good. Wrap dresses you have to get your entire boob out of these so not so good! Likewise shirts.

Ursi Didn't take my dh's name either, but all older members of the family insist on sending mail, cheques, cards etc to 'Mrs DH's first and surname' It always makes me laugh, except whenI have to try to get the bank to take the cheques, for which I need to unearth marriage cert, birth certs etc!

PRIMARK! I bought two pairs of PJs, a huge sloppy sweatshirt, fluffy slipper boots and two spare PJ tops today for £20!!!!!!!!!

Happiness is getting home, ripping off the boots and maternity jeans, getting the PJs and slippers on and eating a piece of Millionaire's shortbread.

tigger32 · 15/10/2009 19:36

tamlin what a nightmare day!! as fruitpastels says though at least you know now so can prepare yourself.

erika aww at your dp

I know loads of Scorpios and they all seem fine to me, whats suppose to be bad about them??

Sorry not got the energy to reply to everyone, I'm still spending alot of time at the hospital with my dsd who is now being moved to a specialist heart hospital which is over an over away! Great that he will get the care he needs but not so good for visiting!

I saw the midwife today for my 36 week app, I now have a trace of protein, +1 of sugar and high blood pressure she wasn't too worried though so going to keep my head in the sand! On the plus side the baby seems to have stopped growing so fast and instead of 2cm too big I'm now only 1 oh and (s)he is well and truly head down and fixed.

I hope all the pains and illnesses clear up soon, will try and chat more tomorrow.

tigger32 · 15/10/2009 19:39

Sorry longway Happy Birthday, hope you've had a lovely day!

hobnob57 · 15/10/2009 19:43

Just one piece wook?. You're more restrained than i am!

tamlin definitely try the acupuncture. When DD was turning somersualts and occasionally breech last time my yoga teacher taught me to press really hard on a shiatsu/acupuncture pint on my little toe and it turned her every time (but I don't think I was this far on). It's right on the outside of the base of the little toenail as far as I remember. Weird, but worked. Fingers crossed for you this week.

Forgot to say it was great to hear from you lemontop - I have my fingers in my ears about 2-hourly feeds though. I'm enjoying my big sleeps too much now!

wook · 15/10/2009 19:57

Tamlin I think the candle thing is called moxibustion and you have to have it over a few days but the success rate is apparently high.

bumpyandfrumpy · 15/10/2009 20:11

Tamlin- I have a box full of moxi sticks if you'd like to try them. It's very easy to do.
CAT me if you'd like some.

katster37 · 15/10/2009 20:11

Erika my bras all feel tight too. I was wondering if I am just really getting fat, but maybe it is the ribcage expanding? I am hoping so!

BBL Hippos in Water sounds lovely. I really want to go swimming, especially as it is meant to turn back-to-back babies. I don't have a swimming costumer though and not sure I can bring myself to buy a maternity one.

Tamlin Sorry to hear about your baby's position and the unsettling discussions - how awful. Footlings are v rare aren't they? My baby is oblique and back-to-back at the minute. Why can't things be straightforward?

Wook I agree with the happiness thing! Am also having a flopping-on-the-settee night, in jogging bottoms, with cat on knee and Quality Streets in hand. Yum.

Laugs / Wook I had been wondering about what you wear to breastfeed. So big cardis are the way forward? I was in Mothercare yesterday and couldn't work out some of their breastfeeding tops! They looked rather complicated!

Lemontop Can't believe he's two weeks old! Has it gone by quickly? I can't wait. I want my baby, without the birth thing! Although nothing is ready. This weekend has been put aside for that. In fact, I might get my non-bio washing stuff and wash some baby sheets/baby gros while DH is out. Eeeek!

bumpyandfrumpy · 15/10/2009 20:12

bugger. just realised CAT is on the other name. info at sarahhopewell dot co dot uk is my email.

LissyGlitter · 15/10/2009 20:27

katser I went swimming earlier this week in some leggings and a vest top, nobody said anything, and it saved me shaving my horrific bikini line - bonus!

scarlotti · 15/10/2009 21:06

I've succumbed to some nursing tops but only as they were so nice and flattering
Anyone with maternity bump bands - they're fab for under any tops to cover your tummy whilst pulling up normal tops to feed.

Nursing bras are a must, and can be fitted in the last month. Got mine the other day - great underwired ones from Anita. Am 36H so can't do non-wired bras unless I want to look awful! Have been using the Anita maternity bras (underwired especially made for maternity) and they wash and wear so well so pleased with my purchases. The shop has a website for those that are interested www.yummymummymaternity.co.uk

katster37 · 15/10/2009 21:28

LissyGlitter what a good idea! I have some cropped leggings and maternity vests - may give that a whirl!

Scarlotti I had thought that about bump bands - good for covering any excess tummy flab too, I imagine.

What are people taking to wear out of hospital? Mat trousers/jogging bottoms? I am wondering how long after the birth I will be in mat clothes... Quite a depressing thought!

hobnob57 · 15/10/2009 21:42

too long . I remember wishing I'd spent more on a bigger range of clothes, but have the same limited selection this time!

Ninjacat · 15/10/2009 22:22

bumpyandfrumpy hope things are settling for you x

Am watching Grumpy Old Women, and am finding myself, at eighteen years and five months, agreeing with so much of it. Is rather highly embarassing But they talk so much sense

Keep having the most painful twinges tonight, wonder whats going on down there... Actually rather painful... Kinda sharp, swift pains. And belly is very hard actually, thinking about it... Hmmm...

Possibly TMI but - I got a letter through today from the hospital, they took a swab (lovely...) nearly three weeks ago at that first scare I had. Three weeks... And they thought I might want to know I had thrush. Well thanks, guys, but I had kinda worked that bit out myself.

Anotehr possibly TMI, but if you can't ask other pregnant ladies... Those of you on iron tablets - has it affected your poo? Just that I noticed mine was rather black earlier (sorry!!!) and just need to know if its the iron tablets or if I need to mention it to the midwife... Ta.... And sorry again

Once more a flaming row here tonight, am getting rather sick of the fact that it all manages to be blamed somehow on me and my illnesses. Really fed up so am going to stay with DP next week, just to get away from the shouting. The thought of a change of scenery is making me feel a bit more positive in itself.

Hope you're all well
