Oh! And I keep forgetting to answer people!

Elk you are forever flatulant in my mind now. No, hush, it's no good trying to tll me that was a one off and you've since conquered constipation an the ensuing wind

annamama I'd LOVE to be in FLorida now despite not being able to indulge in my thrillseeking rollercoaster habits. Have a wonderful time on my behalf, please!

TLC They unusual without being 'wacky' and who cares what your mother thinks?! Ok, you care. That's natural. But you need to temper those feelings with thoughts of pleasing yourself/SO rather than her.

TheMummyonElkStreet · 15/10/2009 12:16

manda i mind not about the flatulence association! it's pretty accurate

lola0109 · 15/10/2009 12:37

Hi all,

Can I add myself to the list?

Due date March 28th with #2. Will hopefully know sex by 9th November!

Have my 16 week appt this afternoon and I'm quite nervous about it. I don't know why (well i do, I've had 4 scans already this pg due to bleeding) but bump is growing rapidly, I look about 6 months already! I know people will argue and say not possible, just bloating etc but honestly!

Anyway, hoping to hear a strong heartbeat. I think I'm concerned as I felt DD move quite early on, about 18 weeks when I was sure it was the baby and not just wind, and I know they say you feel it sooner with second but not a flutter!

How soon have other people felt movement!??

Other than that I agree with the sleep thing, i'm like a zombie during the day but the minute my head hits the pillow i'm wide awake, start thinking about what to cook for tomorrows dinner, what to get people for xmas so on and so on!! Argghhh!!!

Caitni · 15/10/2009 13:09

Am loving all the list shenanagins . I do have an inner control freak perfectionist (Manda I soooo know what you mean about trying not to hover when someone else is doing something ) but my preg head means it's all I can do to avoid mistakes at work. I have no energy left for any non-work attention to detail! Glad there are such good list guardians on here [hail to Arcadie ). I've added lola though

I'm very happy because I've just bought a Natal Hypnotherapy CD and book on ebay - just waiting to see if I get Balaskas' Active Birth book from the same bidder (I loves a bargain so I do).

I actually wanted to ask the advice of you wise second/third/fourth time mums - what do you guys think of this pillow? My sleeping is shocking at the moment, mainly because my legs get painful (dull pain, like blood pooling...which sounds like nonsense I know!). Am getting desperate!

I had a great time at aqua natal class last night, so will definitely be going back. Even with my 20 week bump I enjoyed the feeling of floating...

On names, TLC you have chosen some beautiful names (but I'm biased because I'm a Catherine ) and, hard as it is, you'll just have to ignore your mum! I'm sure she means well, but it seems to me that everyone gives opinions on names before the birth so finding one that pleases everyone is a nightmare. Much easier to present the named baby. That's what we're planning anyway!

Pixie love your DC's names! How about Cicely (like the lovely herb), or Cicily (real first name of Dame Rebecca West) or Cecily? Kind of echo the "c" sound in Alice but with a "y" ending like Romilly.

ScarySarah I don't think the female novelist is a problem, as George is a lovely first name and I don't know of any kids who get called by their first and second names (unless they have a double-barrelled first iykwim). In fact, I don't know the middle names of practically any of my friends!

Off to get some lunch - am starving!

swingsofglory · 15/10/2009 13:43

I love your name choices TLC. They're all lovely - you've got two of my absolute favourites in Emmeline and Caleb - both of which have been vetoed by my DH. Sigh.

Last time round if DD had turned out to be a boy we were going to call the baby Gabriel and ALL my in-laws were extremely rude about that - to the extent that my MIL phoned up my DH at work to beg him not to use the name! Ridiculous really - just choose a name that you like, everyone else will get used to it whether they like it or not.

As regards girls and pink - I try not to buy it for my DD because the in-laws (them again) will always buy her something in pink if they want to buy her clothes as a present. She does like it though, much more than I do!

I too am feeling exhausted at the moment and have that thing of waking up in the night and not being able to go back to sleep. It's frustrating as I am tired. It doesn't help when DD decides to get up early either - I wish I had a fraction of her energy!

I keep feeling a lot of pressure round the bottom of my bump at the moment. Don't know what that's about but it can be quite uncomfortable at times - maybe it's just growing!

rebeccacad · 15/10/2009 14:12

TLC totally agree - you have chosen gorgeous names (a few are on my as yet unshortened long list)and there's no point in listening to anyone else's opinion. Once there's a baby attached to a name they will like it! I'm not telling anyone in RL our thoughts on names for that very reason, but currently (and it changes daily) we're thinking about

Girls: Roberta (Bobbie for short), Mathilda, Eva, Clementine, Myrtle, Ivy, Astrid, Ariel

Boys: Jonah, Malakai, Jude, Pip, Soloman (Solly for short)

Caitni I got my Natal Hypnotherapy Cds off ebay too and really enjoying them (though relaxation doesn't come naturally. Mumbot have a look at www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk/ for more info on natal hypnotherapy. I'm planning on using by HIPG towards going on a course as am planning a homeborth and want all the pain management techniques at my fingertips.

Congrats on all those who know the sex - I'm going to be really tempted next week!

Feeling a lot of movement now - DH felt it for the first time this morning and thought it was 'weird'! Lola my friend is nearly 22 weeks and has only just felt first flutterings with her second baby so don't worry. My MW said it's totally different from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy so not to worry.

rebeccacad · 15/10/2009 14:17

'homeborth' is obviously a new type of birth NOT just that I posted without re-reading first!

Caitni · 15/10/2009 14:43

Rebecca that's a good idea about using your HIPG towards a hypnotherapy course! Am also hoping for a home birth but reckon it would help give skills applicable in labour in any setting. Forgot about HIPG when my DH was telling me that the course seemed v v expensive. So I'm starting with a CD to see how I like it.

annamama · 15/10/2009 14:54

Loving the name Astrid. My grandmother in Sweden was called that, it used to be an "old lady's name" but it's clearly having a big revival. Not too common (yet) though it seems, so get in there quick!

Me & DD saw 2 big iguanas sunning themselves in our backyard yesterday (about 4 feet long). Apparently they're not dangerous but they look damn scary! Their poo is big like cat or dog poo, eww.

And we went to see 11-year-olds (DD's cousin) play American football last night... yawn! DD loved it though, she kept trying to run onto the pitch.

Oh and my horrible cough disappeared as soon as we got here, so I have "got lucky" with DH again (he was very put off by constant coughing in bed)... Have to say though I think I was more up for it when pg with DD, read somewhere that if you want it, it means it's a girl... so maybe a boy this time...?

Manda - I love rollercoasters too but I guess it's not a good idea. Jumped in the pool doing "the bomb" though, hoping the baby enjoyed it too.

OP posts:
SadAtTheWayItsGoing · 15/10/2009 15:33

Still jealous of the swimming, Annamama!
I don't know about it being a girl if you 'want it' - I've been up for it every time!
American football sounds fun - I can't stand sport of any type, and so I suppose I'm lucky that DH is always up for it (sport, not that!).
I was thinking how odd it is that I hardly ever 'see' any of you outside this thread - I found Manda a couple of weeks ago on a question about moustaches (don't ask ), but I don't think, other than Twofalls, I ever see any of you around!
Must dash - DD1 has got yet more ballet this evening.
The babies are having a really lively day today, though - they haven't stopped since breakfast!

donttrythisathome · 15/10/2009 16:28

Like the look of that pillow Caitni - can't wait for the others to comment.

I'm not really feeling any movement at the mo - the babs is obviously a lazy sod like myself.

GhostlyPixieOnaPumpkin · 15/10/2009 16:33

Sorry, that was me, Pixie above - I'd namechanged for a chat thread!

Caitni · 15/10/2009 17:37

Thought it was you Pixie - the ballet reference gave it away! There are huge chunks of MN I never bother going into (anything that isn't Antenatal Clubs, Conception (my longest standing MN friendships are in Conception), Pregnancy and Childbirth really!). So don't think I've ever even wandered into Chat!

mumbot · 15/10/2009 20:26

Just read that swine flu vaccine will be issued from around 26 Oct. Not far away, I'm talking myself in to it after more reading but feel really torn about it...

I post occasionally on other threads... but most of the time there's nothing left to say as a lot of clever people have already said all the right things anyway. I think there is a lot of intelligent people on mumsnet! I post on some language/bilingual threads too which is a "special interest" of mine.

Anyone have Sky+ ? I wanted to record all Americas Next Top Model and X Factor for 3 weeks but the schedule only goes up to one week ahead. So I pressed the "series link" button. Will it record all of them?

OP posts:
MandaHugNKill · 15/10/2009 21:08

I don't have sky+ but my sister does... and I'm at her home most weekends so kinda au fait. I'm pretty sure if you series link, so long as you have room on your harddrive, it will record them all.

Of course the green eyed monster in me is piping up that if you miss those silly reality shows just because you're off galavanting on a wonderful holiday then it's tough luck!

I haven't thought about the vaccine - I know I should have, but just know I'm going to feel torn however much research I do Therefore, I've engaged in head-in-the-sand behaviour to avoid having to decide until I really have to decide. Which looks like the end of the month. Bugger. That's not long at all until I have to retract said head.

I post a little elsewhere - I'm still a newbie to this site so it seems like there are all sorts of forums I've not discovered yet but just HAD to reply to pixies plea... did they arrive in time?

childofthe80s · 15/10/2009 21:15

Hello - just a quick word to say if anyone is looking for more maternity clothes, if you get Pregnancy and Birth magazine this month, there is a 20% discount voucher for Crave maternity. They have a shop on Kings Road (sorry everyone out of London) and a website and am really pleased with the work clothes I've got from there.

Hmm - I bought a hypnobirthing book but think CD would probably be a good idea to go with it too (ebay is a great idea for that). Think the classes might make me snigger a bit though so will probably stick with some informal home-practice!

MandaHugNKill · 15/10/2009 21:15

Oh an caitni that pillow looks fab - but my mind is boggling at 'Customers Who Bought This Also Bought' - Spanx Power Mama. Wtf?! £27 for the ultimate in bridget jones pants?!

lola0109 · 15/10/2009 21:30

Surely pregnancy is the one time in which you can get away with not wearing spanx!! Just let it all hang out!

I was a bridesmaid for my sister 6 weeks ago, 10 weeks pg and my mum appeared with a pair of spanx for me on the day "to hold me in" I swiftly told her where to go and that i was pregnant not fat!! Now looking back at the photos I should maybe have gave them a try. Oh dear!! In my first pregnancy I had such horrendous morninig sickness that I was actually lighter when i gave birth than when I fell pregnant (which was a good thing considering my starting weight). No morning sickness this time but plenty of cakes

Had my midwife appt this afternoon and she had said i'll try listen in on heartbeat but as its still early don't be worried if you don't hear anything. The second the doppler hit my belly the room was filled with a booming heartbeat! What a reassurance! I couldn't tell if it sounded like a horse or a train. Ladies who know the sex, does this old wives tale have any truth in it?

TakeLovingChances · 15/10/2009 21:30

Thanks to you all for your kind words about the names I'd picked.

I was talking to DH about them last night. He almost died at the idea of Elodie and Caleb - he really doesn't like those, so they are off the list.

When we were talking the idea of the name Adam came into my mind. Am really liking it. I have always thought that Nathaniel was THE NICEST name for a male, but now I'm thinking that it might be nice as a middle name.... plenty of time to decide.

Arcardie I had something to say to you, but have forgotten what it is..... give me a mo to check back to what you last said....

TakeLovingChances · 15/10/2009 21:33

Oh yes, Arcadie I remember now what I wanted to say. I like the little chat you and DH had about names, that is pretty much how my DH responds when I talk to him about names.

Nathaniel was his idea, I hadn't thought about it until he said.

We are Christian's so get a lot of inspiration for names from the Bible. But for some reason I'm not as fussed on female Bible names, but really like some male names.

BlueyDragon · 15/10/2009 23:16

Just checking in after a few weeks of being too ill/tired/busy to spend any time on here. Scooby I'm sooooo with you on the tired - now fall asleep on the train into work as well as the one home. At least South West trains now let me sit in First Class if cattle standard is full, cos no pin stripe is getting up for me!

MummyElk if you're staying on Tresco in the Scilly Isles then I've just been there and it's lovely. The jacuzzi is very warm so I just sat on the side with my legs in; the pool is a great temperature and has a jacuzzi bit to it anyway so you don't miss out. And the flight down there is brilliant on a clear day so I hope you get one.

20 week scan is on Monday and I'm trying not to get too worked up about the sex because I really want a boy and I don't want to be disappointed. Obviously the key concern is that all is ok, but assuming it is then I don't want the disappointment.

I'm now having great fun at work stringing people along when they notice the bump particularly, I have to admit, the men who, bless them, don't dare say anything. The relief on their faces when I tell them I'm pregnant is quite comic. Well, I've got to get some comedy out of this...

I was going to say something else, but pregnancy brain and the late hour (is it any wonder I fall asleep on the train?) mean I've forgotten what. Hope everyone's not feeling too rough!
