Caitni, it was just this thread whcih perhaps gave rise to my status. Not me beng generally arsy in AIBU in case you were wondering

I just had my scan. Everythng fine apart from a low lying placent which wopuld ut the stops on my home birth plan if t doesn't move .

And, they think its a grl. DH bravely trying very hard not to be too disappointed that he is going to spend the next 20 odd years in a houseful of women

In terms of dental care, if your Dentit already offers NHS treatment you just sign a form. If he/she doesn't then I am not sure you will get it. Best check with your dentist if they support adult NHS patients.

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 13/10/2009 15:48

IWCAS- three words: Maternity Exemption Card. Speak to your midwife. My dentist is private but had no problems accepting it last time.

TwoMany- shocking shopping experience. Come sit by me on the low-lying placenta sofa (though had no intention of Home Birth in the first place) [Puree realises she is now on two sofas- SPD and Low-Lying Placenta. Good thing she has vast bottom.]

Sarah- cuddles?

Have changed to a suitable Halloweeny name.

Has anyone picked a name yet? With the POcket Dictator (DD) we had name before conception (took three years- it gave us something to talk about.) With this one, DH refusing to commit, even though we now have a 'probable' girl. i hate calling the baby 'the baby' or 'he/she' or 'it' and want to give her the name I we have picked.

Caitni · 13/10/2009 16:30

Twofalls at your experience. Totally outrageous way to act and I'm very glad you called the police (and that they followed it up and passed it to CPS). Congrats on the girl . I've read that low lying placenta is reasonably common at the 20 week scan but that the vast majority "move" as the uterus grows (not so much moves, as the placenta's fixed, but the growing uterus means it moves up and out of the way) so that placenta praevia is a problem in only a tiny amount of births. Fingers crossed that's the case for you.

Sarah cuddles with a week old - yum!

IWCAS that's very nice of your ex's parents...I had forgotten about them becoming grandparents but it bodes well if they're interested/excited at this stage (although whatever you plan re access is your own decision of course). And what a nice experience on the bus . I also need my maternity exemption card (and in fact need to get a new dentist since we moved). I know that gums suffer during pregnancy but (TMI alert) my nightly flossing is like a bloodbath.

So I'm 20 weeks today, so officially half way. And cannot be bothered with work (hence my more than usual MNing ). Roll on half five...

Caitni · 13/10/2009 16:34

Sorry, P&P meant to say I was giggling at your pocket dictator and your "communal" choosing of names...I'm like that with girls names since we'd like an Irish one for a daughter and my (American) DH automatically goes "er, what?" whenever I mention names I love like Cliona or Dearbhail...so I'm now in the process of just exposing him to them so when I we decide he's happy too

scarysarahandco · 13/10/2009 16:56

names, we like Alice and Phoebe gor little girlies and if its a boy George Elliott!!!! (this was DD's name is she was a boy.!!!1

As you see we like the more Trditional names,

cannot wait to find out tomorrow!!!!!

IWCAS that's great about the paternal grandparents. I think you're right to give them a chance, as just because their son is being a loser doesn't mean they won't be lovely grandparents. It's such a special relationship for a child to have too. These things can be worked out, and the communication channels are open which is the biggest step.

Sarah love your names, especially the boy one (because I love the novelist - Middlemarch is one of my favourite classics!).

Tigresswoods · 13/10/2009 19:16

Hello girls, indulged myself in some real pregnancy activity stuff today as I am half way there (wooooo oh!).

First I investigated pregnancy yoga locally and contacted the teacher (by email) about prices and if you need to pay in advance etc. Waiting to hear back but they do it every Monday and Wednesday evening and its only a few miles away so feel very good about that.

Next and this is the good bit, while I was in Lahndan Tahn for a meeting today I popped into Topshop as I had heard about their brilliant maternity section. The good news is that it is a whole seperate bit of the shop so for those of you familiar with the carnage that is Topshop Oxford Circus you don't need to even go into the main shop. There is a side entrance round the corner next to Nike Town and it is like a little boutique but with an escalator down to the main shop.

I thought I was in heaven when I walked in, lots of cool maternity clothes. On reflection though the only thing I liked were the skinny jeans and at £40 a go I am thinking ebay!!!! I am only 29 but in my opinion the clothes were a bit "young" that is the only word i can think to describe it. There were lots of vests- hello, it is October isn't it!? Anyway, I would go back if I am called on to wear a nice dress to a posh event at any point in the next 4 and a bit months.

Hope this has helped anyone in the SE area who was thinking of checking it out.

Hi from Florida! We are in a rented house for 3 weeks, it's LOVELY! Pool and canal with boats right behind the house. We are jetlagged still, woke up at 5 this morning... yawn. DD wanted to go in the pool at 7 am, it wasn't even daylight yet but it was already hot. It's too hot in the middle of the day! Flight was packed, no seat for DD, we took turns sitting on the floor... then had preg head incident involving me us having forgotten car rental papers, took a few hours to sort out, didn't even know which company it was! DH was mad at me. I used to be Mrs super organised, am losing it badly. It's nice hanging out with DH's relatives apart from when MIL told me I should be potty training DD, she is not even 18 months yet! I said yeah yeah you're probably right and smiled a fake american smile!

Bon Jovi fans - I too was/is a massive Bon Jovi fan, on the "New Jersey" tour in -88 I think, I stood at the front at their gig and I touched Jon Bon Jovis hand! Naturally didn't wash for days afterwards...

Rindercella - your sister is an idiot, I got real angry when I read that! Don't go to the wedding...

Walnut - you poor thing! Well at least the baby will be keeping you company, sort of...

Pixie - your Halloween party sounds lovely! Here it's such a big thing, don't know what we're doing yet but I hope DD will be old enough to enjoy it (in her little witch dress from Tesco).

EmLou - Congrats on boy! I was home alone for a month back in Feb when DH's dad was ill & died over here in Florida. Thought I was seriously going mad. Being alone sucks when you're used to being with someone.

Puree - congrats on girl! Did you find out why you're having another scan? Maybe your midwife knows...?

TwoFalls - congrats on girl! I read your AIBU thread too. Yes YABU, who needs police, you should have punched him in the face! No seriously, that was so out of order.

IWCAS - nice that grandparents want to be involved!

Tigress - I have seen that Top Shop maternity section, but I too thought it looked a bit young!

Am impressed by those doing pregnancy yoga etc, I'm too lazy and antisocial to do anything like that! Although I MIGHT go to aquanatal later on.

Names names names... DD is called Ellie, we honestly didn't know that it's such a common name, we thought it was rare... yeah right! Still love it though and it suits her so well. Now we like Isabelle (Issy for short) and Max. But they are very common too apparently! After finding out the sex (on 5/11, can't wait!) we will start thinking if there's any other names we like more.

Welcome newbies!

Ok bye for now, sorry for long post, lots of catching up...

Hi all
Been trying to keep up w2iht occassional sneaky peeks at work, but this is woefully inadequate at the rate this thread moves!

Few things I did pick up:

Rindercella, your sister has clearly turned into Bridezilla and thus has temporarily forgotten that any other people have anything important in their lives, or indeed that they exist at all in any other capacity other than that in which they feature in her wedding plans. It is a form of temporary insanity and it will pass in time, but all the same you have every right to be seriously pissed off and possibly look into getting her sectioned.

Walnut - how horrible that you should be expected to soend Christmas on your own whilst heavily pregnant. Not on IMHO. Your DH should do the right thing BY YOU.

ScarySarah&Co - Re: George Elliot - both lovely names, and also one of my favourite authors, but you are aware that George Elliot was actually a woman (IIRC)? Unlikely to be a problem, and it may well not bother you, but wouldn't want it to go unmentioned in case some smart-arse at secondary school picks it up and gives your DS a hard time... Forewarned is forearmed and all that.

IWCAS - good to hear you sounding more positive and I think it can only be a good thing if your ex's parents take an interest in your DC. One can never have too many grandparents, IMHO. At least part of the family are doing the right thing.

Not much to report from here. Saw midwife for 16 week appt. (last Friday at 17 weeks...). Heard heartbeat which was lovely and reassuring. Mentioned the fainting (have had 3 incidents now - including quite a close call in the shower, luckily I managed to sit down and then faint while sitting, but could have been nasty). Iron levels and blood pressure seemed within normal range although on the lowish side, so unlikely to be that - seems to think it's related to heat/overheating, so am trying to make sure I don;t get hot. Hey ho.

Spoke to her about my last experience, and the fact that I was given an unlicensed drug (well, one that's only licensed for the treatment of gastric ulcers, not induction - but this is all on another thread) which may ahev caused/contributed to some of the nastier things I experienced. She was horrified and said they only used that drug at the Whit. for terminations . Thinks I should get my notes from previous hospital and go over them in detail with my consultant when I see her, and see if I can get it looked into further...

Have another 4 1/2 weeks to wait for my scan though, as I'm not getting it until I'm 22 weeks which I'm strangely about and also to thos ewho've had yours ALREADY! I feel a bit remedial!

We're coping ok in our rented flat, enjoying being in Crouch End (la di da). House renovations/demolitions have started and now stopped again, as we had to fire our original contractor - after asking for about 6 weeks for acurate costs, when he finally gave them to us, they weren't accurate enough, and double our budget! Our architect has found us a new one though, who, with a bit of ecouragement has come in much closer.

And while it appears we won't be able to do everything we'd hoped straight away, we3 should be able to get it habitable, and the ground floor pretty mcuh as we want it and then instigate a phase 2 when we can access more finance. Stressful mind...

That's about it- I'm sure I've missed loads oof important news - hopefully things will calm down a bit in designerbabyvillas quite soon and I can give this thread the attention it deserves...

Going to sleeeeeep now! Nighty night!

xx

donttrythisathome · 14/10/2009 10:46

Talking about PITA sisters (*Rindcerellas post).... Sisters can be strange...one of mine used eat all my food when I was a baby when my Mam wasn't looking, and also snogged one of my boyfriends when I was away (?!). No wonder they say I was a cranky baby!

What is this film "Up" of which you all speak?

I'm going to yoga and active birth classes which are lovely and booked the teacher as my Doula. Hooray! Also go to aqua classes with a mad Aussie woman who has a permed long mullet hairdo. Nice.

I have my scan today. Excited and terrified. And will find out the sex.

Anyway loads to catch up on here.

MandaHugNKill · 14/10/2009 12:03

I have had a rotten cold/cough thing since Sunday, hence a few days absence from me. I still feel exhausted although have stopped coughing (I think) so hopefully will sleep better and perk up over the next couple of days.

SO happy for those of you getting your 'big' scans (and finding out the sex if you are!) can't believe I still have two weeks to wait. Goodness knows why they do it at 21 weeks in my area now, it used to be 20 weeks.

Ah, Up. It's a tradition that we always go and see pixar releases in the cinema (pizza express afterwards ) but DD at 14 & 1/2 is getting more difficult to pin down for a visit to the cinema with her mum and brother. Will hopefully go this week or possibly early next week.

I need to give some thought to Christmas. ExDH has, for the last three years always said at christmas when i've asked if he wants to have the children/spend time with them 'I just want to pretned christmas isn't happening' and mope, mope, mope the whole of Decemeber. Because he couldn't have the 'me, him an the kids' christmas, he would just not make any effort at all and switch off. Last week though he sent me a text saying if I hadn't made plans already could he take them away for christmas. I said of course, I was sad he'd never shown any interst in seeing them the last three years, nor EVER taken them away anywhere. So he's taking them to Cetre Parks from 23rd to 28th December. With his girlfriend. Whom hey've never met Now I have to broach the subject with him that it's kinda unacceptable to take them away with her when they don't know her from adam and they really need some interaction with her before going away. I know for a fact he's gonna be all 'when don't take them you think I'm wrong, now I am taking them you think I'm wrong, I can't win, wah wah wah poor me' crap from him.

BEtter wait a couple of days so I'm not so cranky and irritable from being tired and risk it coming out 'wrong' (although with how juvenille super-sensitive he is, it's gonna be seen as an attack anyway).

Moany post from me.

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 14/10/2009 14:00

Manda- whole point of this is to be able to moany post and get virtual hugs!! Men are not terribly helpful are they?

Impatiently waiting for news about scans and person from my Due in June 08 thread is in labour........

Oh and just had a priceless baking moment when I inadvertantly launched an entire egg down the tube of the Magimix. Cake-a-la-eggshell. Had to start again!!

cyphercat · 14/10/2009 14:08

I don't write much in this thread but I do look in!! I just passed my 20 week point and suddenly I feel as if I can't breathe and I feel so full and bloated. anybody else??? I don't remember having this until it was quite later on in my pregnancy before...

kay1980 · 14/10/2009 14:33

cyphercat I don't post much either but also look in! I am right there with you on the breathlessness and the bloatedness it's horrible! It doesn't help that there are lots of stairs where I work I feel like I'm going to pass out after climbing up them!

Does anybody know of anything that works for ahem....constipation (sorry if tmi!) I've tried fybogel but that doesn't seem to work.

swingsofglory · 14/10/2009 15:03

hello all - both non-stop posters and occasional looker-inners,

I went looking for the last thread after an absence of a week or so only to find there's yet another one! I'm definitely an occasional looker-inner but let's face it, if we all posted constantly no-one could ever keep up.

kay1980 I find actimel works a treat - one a day. Still not as good as when I'm not pregnant but it really helps.

I'm really envious of everyone who knows already if they're having a boy or a girl. Our scan is in about 2 weeks and I can't wait to find out.

I suspect I'm having another girl and the MW told me she thought it was a girl at my last check-up as the heartbeat was quite fast. Don't know if that's an urban myth though. Keeping my fingers firmly crossed (DH is hoping for a boy this time, so I can't say that in RL) although i won't mind too much either way.

GhostlyPixieOnaPumpkin · 14/10/2009 15:39

I hope you're feeling better Manda - it's a really nasty cold - I've just had it, and it really knocks you for six, doesn't it!?
Annamama, I'm very jealous - I think I'd like to be swimming in hot weather, although I'm not too fond of extreme heat!
I'm quite enjoying the autumn, actually, I've got a lovely new maternity coat, and today has been the first day it's been properly cold enough to wear it!
Sarah, I think it was you who said that you were looking for classic names? We want something that's classic as well - we knew what we were going to call the baby before we knew it was twins, but now there are two, the name we'd already picked seems all wrong, IYSWIM. DD1 is Alice, DD2 is Romilly and DS is Pip (Philip), so we need something to fit with those names. Any ideas?
Hope you've all had really nice days?

scarysarahandco · 14/10/2009 15:50

well ladies its yet another boy!!!! feel quite disappointed as i was totally convinced i was having another DD - all well and healthy so thats all good, but i must admit it was a shock!!!!!lol (plus i get to buy more as we have lots of pink from DD!!!! will need to find new home for them)

sorry that sounds really bad this baby is well loved and tbh it does not matter what the sex is!!!!!!

how did u get on dontry?

DB- yes i did know that the author George Eliiott is female( didn't know until i mention it on here when i was pg with DD)

GhostlyPixieOnaPumpkin · 14/10/2009 15:53

Congratulations, Sarah! Boys are brilliant! I think that that means that well over half of the people on here who 'know' are having boys, though!

donttrythisathome · 14/10/2009 17:26

I'm having a girl! Very excited. Everything looks normal. She looks like my OH, so I warned him this means she will have my personality

Congrats on the boy Sarah - I think boys are lovely too. Do you have any boys already? My sister has 3 and they were all gorgeous babies and toddlers (though sportswear sadly took hold in the teenage years...eeeewww). I was secretly (yet guiltily) hoping for a girl too though.

I find porridge and fruit good for constipation

donttrythisathome · 14/10/2009 17:38

Ghostlypixie the name Carmen would go nicely with Romilly. I also like elegant Italian names like Francesca and Viviana.

I'm going for a nature type name but am keeping schtum until babs is born.
