Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheMummyonElkStreet · 12/10/2009 09:12

Morning all!!
Joy of having a childminder - her boy is ill today so I'm also now off because I have DD to look after!! Trying v hard not to be jubilant but there's something about an illicit monday off that makes me happy...
first bout of indigestion last night - worth it though, sticky toffee pud at about 945, yumMY! and slept awfully so would have been rubbish at work anyway.
right i'm off to do things! somehow seems a waste to laze about. i'm sure i wouldn't be saying this if it was raining..
caitni i'm trying to think of a halloweeny name for you...still thinking...

Walnut8 · 12/10/2009 12:16

emlou congrats on the boy! I'm definitely feeling the same re being weepy at being left alone. My DH may be going home for his sister's wedding at christmas (which means being away at least a week). I don't think I'll be able to go (two long haul flights in one week would be too much I think at that stage) which means Christmas completely by myself. Trying not to feel resentful about it but getting a bit peeved that his sister is putting so much pressure on him to go without seeming to give too much thought to the fact that it means leaving me alone in what is basically for me still a foreign country at 6/7 months pregnant. And over Christmas!

Anyway rant over. rindercella I agree with everyone else who said just stay home with your DH and DD and enjoy your last few days before baby!! Would be very cross if my own sister did that (and would let her know!)

GhostlyPixieOnaPumpkin · 12/10/2009 13:27

Morning!
Congratulations on the boy - here's to fifteen years spent on the side of a freezing cold football/rugby pitch
It's cold here this morning - I've got the heating on, and I don't normally give in until half term!
It's my first day of freedom since DD2 broke her leg today! She went back to school for her first whole day this morning, and I think I'm nearly as nervous as I was on her first day ! We're all a bit stressed, actually, as DH has taken DD1 for her ballet exam this morning, and she was very nervous as well, although I'm sure she'll be fine!
Don't mention the heartburn, Elk, it seems to be following me around like a shadow at the moment!
Anyway, I'd better go and find some lunch before the twins complain. . .

childofthe80s · 12/10/2009 17:34

Hi,

I'm a sporadic follower of this but just thought I'd check in and say hello and hope everyone is well and enjoying their pregnancies. I too am a bit weepy and also cried all the way through Up in the cinema on saturday night. Even given I am a bit on the emotional side normally, I think DH was a bit surprised!

Rindercella - think your sister is being super unreasonable (if you needed further confirmation!) Would definitely be having a massive sulk if it were me.

symptoms wise - still a bit sleepy here and feeling little tummy flutters which might be the baby...?Couldn't swear to it though. Also gave in temptation and bought a cute little outfit and sleeping bag at the weekend...
take car everyone

scarysarahandco · 12/10/2009 18:40

hello and welcome child of the 80s!!!

lovely to meet you

TheMummyonElkStreet · 12/10/2009 18:51

welcome 80s!!! could be baby, sounds like it to me!

Pacific question for you (and other similar pg guru-like people...i'm off to the isles of scilly on friday (i know, only just got back from greece, jammy get, etc etc) and have found out the cottages we're using have access to a pool/jacuzzi/steam room etc etc. What's the deal pls with such treats? Pool obv ok....but i hear jacuzzi's and steam room not so good - IS THERE any reason for this or is it just H&S crap guidelines? I will happily abstain if it's not a good idea for bump. if it's just chitchat and i feel like a bubble-fest i might jump it....advice please?

Minicooper · 12/10/2009 19:25

Hi, mummyelk, def not pg guru, but think its to do with the temperature - same as we're not supposed to have hot baths - boo! I'm swimming loads at the moment and thought I'd be a bit peeved about not being able to jacuzzi - but as its always full of large sweaty men, haven't felt too bad about it so far!

pureeandpearls · 12/10/2009 19:31

nhs advice about jacuzzis

mumbot · 12/10/2009 19:42

Hi everyone, haven't checked in for a while but definitely feeling weepy like a few others on the thread.

Can't believe how fast this pg is going! Was very slow with DS1. Getting kicked all over the place by bump which is lovely.

Agree with responses on steam rooms and jacuzzi's. Hot temperatures cause blood volume to be diverted to the surface of your skin in order to aid heat loss, taking the blood volume away from the placenta.

Now wondering how on earth I'm going to afford maternity leave when SMP kicks in. £120-odd quid is not much to live on is it?

Hope you are all ok, big hugs x

pureeandpearls · 12/10/2009 19:51

Sorry- interrupted by supper!

Had a bit of a frustrating scan so apologise for the long-winded self-centred post....in Bromley we get sent to Kings for our 12 week scan and bloods. Nothing was mentioned at ours, yet today when the sonographer looked at the paperwork she asked why we had to have a 28 week scan. This was the first we had heard of it, and she didn't/couldn't elaborate. So I started off a bit worried. The baby wouldn't cooperate so I had to go for a walk. Twice. Then they couldn't get the final measurements so I have to go back in two weeks (DH reckoned they didn't try very hard. With DD I had to perform contortions and cough and allsorts to get her to play ball...) And I have a low-lying placenta so that needs to be monitored too. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Am verrrrrrrrrrrry frustrated.

But they 'think' it's a girl (she's not a betting woman and wouldn't commit but we looked between the legs three times and I am certain there was nothing there...)

[P&P wanders off to eat more chocolate.]

Arcadie · 12/10/2009 20:04

P&P That's very frustrating. But congrats on "probable" girl. Thanks too for the jacuzzi advice. A quick dip in and out won't hurt but I don't like sitting in them for too long anyway even when unpregnant (the few months I've been unpregnant for.... )

Pixie hope today has worked out well in the end.

Nothing of any remotely baby-related interesting things happening here. Apart from the migraines. 3 this weekend. NOT happy about that as I'm just wiped out by them and give the kids even less attention than I'd like.

GhostlyPixieOnaPumpkin · 12/10/2009 20:12

Thanks Arcadie! The ballet exam was fine, I think, although we have to wait 8 weeks for the results (why do they do that? why?).
I agree about the jacuzzi. Am I the only one that doesn't actually like them, though? I find the sensations of bubbles going up my cozzie just a bit disturbing!
Migraines are really not nice, Arcadie! I hate getting them, and I always know that it's going to be on a day when I'd got something nice planned! One of my friends came down with a really bad migraine, and they had to delay her contractions until it had subsided.
Probable girl is good! We need more girls on this thread - far too many boys!

hecklephone · 12/10/2009 20:43

Hello everyone!

Not posted for about a week because we were off in Northern Ireland visiting my folks. T'was a lovely break, quite relaxing, Mum's good home cooking and a chance to catch up with some friends we haven't seen in a while.

Like the new thread title - especially as I too was a MASSIVE Bon Jovi fan during my teenage years! (I had a thing for floppy hair!)

Glad to hear some of you are indulging in the odd glass of wine. I'm missing vegging out with a nice wee glass of something and it was particularly hard at my mum and dad's as Dad usually brings out a really nice bottle of red! I did have a few sips though and tried to ignore DH's disapproving looks (he doesn't even like me drinking coffee, even though I'm only on about 1 a day!) And I too am a fan of the Beck's blue - it's the closest thing to actual beer I think I've tasted and goes fine with a curry! (mild of course - think of the heartburn )

Have been feeling stronger kicks over the last few days and DH even managed to feel one last night, which was lovely!

So much has been going on in the past week with you guys, I can't even remember half of it to comment on - except for Rindercella - at your sister!

And glad to hear of more good scans - mine's a week tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it (but STILL can't decide whether to find out sex or not!!)

TwoManyFallsAndYouGetABadScore · 12/10/2009 21:10

hello everyone, I haven't posted on this thread for ages and ages but I am still around

I have got my scan tomorrow so am quite excited about that.

I too am stupidly weepy - I cry at everything at the moment.

I have also put on loads of weight - about a stone. Is that a lot? I hardly put on anythign with DD so am feeling like a complete weeble (am only 5ft so am looking decidly round !

Good luck to everything with scans this week.

rindercella, I saw that thread but didn't connect it with being you. I can't believe your sister!

Caitni · 12/10/2009 21:12

Heckle my scan's a week tomorrow as well - can't get here fast enough! Glad to hear you had a good break. And don't feel bad about the odd sip or glass of red (or cup of coffee for that matter!) as it doesn't really hurt. Although I think I need to try this Becks Blue of which you all speak...

Arcadie sorry to hear about the migraines - that's three too many (but perhaps these things come in threes so you'll be free of them for a while [hopeful emoticon])

Pixie I also don't really like jacuzzis/steam rooms/saunas...I do like warm pools (so water birth appeals a lot) and thalassotherapy type things just not major heat/bubbles. Glad to hear your DD's exam went ok but crikey, 8 weeks is a looooong time to wait [caitni does some sums and realises she'll be about 28 weeks when pixie's dd's ballet exams come through - woo hoo]

P&P what a frustrating scan. Why on earth wouldn't anyone tell you about an extra scan at 28 weeks? And sounds like you DH is right about them not trying enough to get the measurements . On the upside, you get to see babyP&P again soon. And congrats on a probable girl (I really really hope you get a better sonographer next time!!). Your DD will (probably) be getting a sister!

Mumbot I agree about SMP. Am not really thinking about it but my DH is already doing lots of planning/budgeting. Hoping it's not too painful!

Minicooper lol at the big sweaty men - there's a good incentive to stay out of steam rooms - the prospect of lots of hairy backs

MummyElk ooooh the Scilly Isles! I'm well as it's a part of Britain I've long wanted to visit. Enjoy! And at your illicit Monday off ps love your halloween name. A v v good pun

Childofthe80s I also cried throughout Up on Sat night! I really enjoyed it, and did laugh too, but my god, it was an emotional rollercoaster for me . Even my DH cried a bit (he'd kill me for telling you all!) But since we conceived via IVF after being told we had no hope naturally that first bit really hit home for both of us...

Walnut at your SIL as I really don't think I could do without my DH over Christmas (and I've lived in London for 9 years and have friends living within 5 mins walk of our flat). It does sound like too far for you to travel - I'm flying back to ireland for Christmas and that's about as far as I could plan (and even that will involve doctor's note).

Big waves to everyone else.

I went to my first pregnancy yoga class tonight and I really enjoyed it. It was great to be in a room with all these lovely pregnant ladies. Definitely planning to go regularly, as I think I'll get something out of it (and it still allows me to get home early enough to enjoy Masterchef the Professionals! Cooking doesn't get better than this...except for regular masterchef!). Right, time to devote my full attention to Masterchef

lola0109 · 12/10/2009 22:24

Hi all, I'm new to this thread, due 28th March.

Nice to read all your experiences (even bad ones) as I know i'm not alone!

This is DC2 and DD1 will be 18 months when he/she makes an appearance, so I'll be busy!

Caitni your yoga class sounds great, trying to find one in my area just now but a bit of a nightmare, struggling to even find an aquanatal class!

Got 4 weeks to wait until 20 week scan but desperate to know the sex. Are most people finding out or keeping it a surprise?

mumbot · 13/10/2009 08:21

Hi lola0109 welcome and congrats on your pregnancy. We will be finding out the sex, looking forward to it

at everyone whose found a yoga class

x

Arcadie · 13/10/2009 08:56

Twofalls You're on our thread!!! You're like an AIBU celebrity. Wow.... [we're not worthy emoticon]

TwoManyFallsAndYouGetABadScore · 13/10/2009 09:29

pmsl at being an AIBU (or any kind of) celebrity Arcadie

Nice to see some names I recongise. how many weeks are you?

Caitni · 13/10/2009 10:09

Twofalls and Arcadie lmao about AIBU celebrity-ness . I like AIBU (as an insight into what people get worked up over it fascinates me) but it all moves too quickly for me so I never actually post on it. I'd get absolutely no work done if I developed an AIBU habit.

lola hello and welcome . We're not finding out the sex at our 20 week scan, so I'm loving everyone else revealing their news on here. I've also managed to find a aqua-natal class (I'm going along tomorrow night for the first time) but I'm a bit at how uncommon they are. I work really near Kings Cross in London, so minutes walk away from the Cally pool, and from what I can tell none of the council pools in Islington offers aqua natal classes. So my plan of sneaking out during the day for some aqua natal classes was well and truly scuppered!

scarysarahandco · 13/10/2009 11:21

he everyone, hopr your all ok, welcome new members, xxx

got 20 week scan tomorrow and cannot wait!!!!lol and will def try to find out the sex, xxxx i am still thnining pink so we shall see!!!!

a friend of mine had a baby girl by c section last monday, they have called her Connie Mae, we are off for a cuddle now xxxx

spk soon

TMD · 13/10/2009 11:36

Hi all

Just wanted to have some reassurance. I develpoed thrust after antibiotics was prescribed oral drops and pessary. Used the it last night and experieced stabbing pains so removed it asap. Rang midwife said very unlikely but shouldn't worry just get in touch with doc for some cream instead. Just haven't felt as much flutters since bit worried but prob shouldn't. Lack of sleep not helping and a hypo toddler so feeling low today.
Scarysarahandco Hope scan went well and your prediction.... were you right? xxx

Walnut8 · 13/10/2009 12:09

Welcome to all the new people!

Hope your scan went well sarah.

Caitni I'm really jealous of your yoga class, it sounds great. I contacted a few gyms in my area to see if they run them but no luck as yet. And thanks for your support with my SIL. I know I would really want my brother at my wedding so I'm trying to be understanding and not an unreasonable/hormonal bitch pregnant woman.

TMD I have used a pessary and was told that it was near to impossible to do any harm with it (I stressed out because I used the applicator and then read that i wasn't supposed to if I was pregnant). See your doc though so you feel better!

mumbot · 13/10/2009 12:25

Hi TMD I think that's quite normal, keep taking your medication and it will be gone in a flash. I know what you mean around feeling low, I'm great one day then weepy on the next day, must be preggy hormones playing havoc but I'm also having toddler induced sleep deprivation. Keep your pecker up x

Caitni · 13/10/2009 13:14

Walnut when we got married one of my brothers couldn't make it as his wife was due one week before (Rindercella we had organised everything before they told us!). I got married in the States and he was in Ireland. He really wanted to make it but I kind of put my foot down as it was stressing everyone out trying to fit both in. My niece was born 3 days before the wedding (and her good wishes were the first we read out during the speeches ). I would have loved if he was there but it wasn't the end of the world that he wasn't (in fact, I was so happy I didn't really miss him ). And I'm very close to my 3 brothers and this one in particular. So that's what I was thinking when I was at your SIL. I mean, your wife spending Christmas alone in a foreign country at 7 months pregnant is a pretty valid reason to not make a wedding IMO!

TMD I also think pessaries are fine - the mucous plug is nigh on impentrable - but good that you checked. Hope it clears up soon.

Sarah good luck with teh scan tomorrow!
