Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scarysarahandco · 14/10/2009 17:49

dont try, i have a ds who is nearly 5 and absolutley gorge!!!!! DD is 20 months, so it would have been easier¬!!!! ho hum, blue, blue blue in this house now!!!!LOL

Tigresswoods · 14/10/2009 17:56

hello cyphercat and kay1980 I don't have constipation but that may be due to having weetabix at least twice (usually more) a week and a yogurt every day. Or maybe it is yet to hit me.

On the breathless and feeling massive thing, I have had this and feel a total wimp as I am only just showing and my friend who is 36 weeks seems to be fine. Don't feel right complaining at my meagre 20 week stage!

puff

MandaHugNKill · 14/10/2009 18:32

Congrats to ghostlypixie on her making 'tip of the day'... and what sound advice it is too

Do we have a list where we are keeping track of whom is expecting what? Or could it just be added to the due date list? WOuld be nice to keep track. But for now, congrats on the boy news, sarah and the pink news, donttry

I've not really had constipation since about 9 weeks... I am another actimel advocate, along with upping your fruit/water intake if poss.

donttrythisathome · 14/10/2009 18:35

Manda me and the OH are dreading the pink. Don't want to stereotype the poor little thing. Ah well, a losing battle I imagine!

MandaHugNKill · 14/10/2009 18:46

Ah, I was always a FIRM believer in nurture over nature when it came to the stereotypical behaviour we see in girls and boys... I therefore dressed DD in mostly red when she was born. There was a little pink. Quite a bit of navy too.

When DS was born I was the same - lots of red, uh, ok, so not really any pink. But he wore a lot of white, too.

When he was about four and choosing his own advent calender, he was adamant he wanted the 'Barbie' one. DD chose 'The Simpsons'.

Despite this, she was a 'typical' girl happy to sit colouring, reading, playing quietly an he was a rumbunctious budle of energy always wanting to run, climb, and pretend his fingers were a gun (as his toy box lacked the 'toy' version). Now as pre/teens she is all about her appearence whilst he tries to avoid basic hygiene...

So... not sure what my point is! Just saying, I suppose, that I understand your eagerness for them to be little people rather than a little princess or prince... but be prepared for them to seemingly conform to societial 'norms' despite a lack of encouragement from you. Mother nature - that woman knows her mind!

TheMummyonElkStreet · 14/10/2009 19:01

hi all!!
Sarah was v excited to hear your news, a little boy will be lovely! oohhh there's some lovely little boy clothes out there!! and dontry i love little girls and am fiercely hanging onto DD's clothes to use again...even if it's not this time around!! We won't find out till march so yet to work out exactly what we'll do there!!

CONSTIPATION one of my favourite subjects...
(this does follow an awful time of it whilst bfing, i shall be lecturing reminding you all next year to drink plenty of water) Anyway. Movicol is good stuff, you can get it from your GP and you can also buy it (but i say why waste a good maternity exemption certificate ) it's a simple drink, tastes ok and does wonders.
Lactulose also works but beware the flatulence (i drank too much and ended up in hospital thinking i was dying but actually all it took was a big long fart... ) (DH actually went "jesus christ was that you?) (love him)
and FINALLY... linseed, stirred into yoghurt/cereal etc is great. prunes+juice work. LOTS OF WATER works. i think babs is just taking up lots of your usual intake and leaving the rest of you gasping.
but do try and kickstart it, you don't want anal fissures and the like to boot.

Lovely day here. my highlight was walking the dog with DD, who took her doll out of the buggy too, and insisted on making the baby "walk! baby - walk!". think you had to be there her face as the baby fell on the floor was great....could be interesting with a real baby but let's not go there!!

donttrythisathome · 14/10/2009 19:04

Yeah, I definitely think girls and boys are naturally different, in not just the willy/no willy way (controversial I know). Still, I do of want to encourage her to just be herself, and if that involves football (eurgh) or diy (double eurgh) or barbies (dear god...) then fine!

But...PINK.....! I can never remember wearing it as a kid.

donttrythisathome · 14/10/2009 19:06

LOL at the big fart.

Hi all,

Really nice to hear all your boy/girl updates.

Is anyone else plain and simply knackered? I have to say i'm generally very well if you take away the black eyes and sleep that sees me awake evey hour!! Can't work out why- not feeling baby kick so flump not kicking me awake, I'm not huge and uncomfortable yet just simply not staying asleep. Getting a bit fed up now. Also skin breaking out in spots. Had thought til this last two weeks I was escaping nicely. It's obviously my come down!!!

xx

MandaHugNKill · 14/10/2009 19:50

Ooh, that must be an old list sarah (perhaps the first page of the last thread?) as I'm not even on it!

scooby poor you. I'm not sleeping well either, quite aside from being ill. I was hoping I'd get so exhausted as to fall into a coma deep sleep eventually but alas no.

annamama · 14/10/2009 19:56

Congrats on the boy Scary and girl Don't Try!

DH was saying we should have a private scan here in Florida, mostly out of curiousity to see what sex it is... but also to check that all is ok while we wait for the "real" scan at home, as we have been quite paranoid. But now I feel a lot calmer and I think it seems over the top to go for an extra scan. So we'll just wait for the NHS one, the day after we come home!

Interesting about gender and what is nature/nurture. I have to say I believe more and more in nature. It seems children are born with their own personalities but it also seems there's an early difference between boys and girls. Of course parents can make this difference bigger or smaller, but there's no denying we are different.

Funny about the Barbie calender, bless!

Oh constipation sucks... I can just agree with other posters, water, fruit, fibre/wholewheat, and exercise.

It's lovely wearing summery clothes over here, but I'm starting to look really big! Getting shocked looking in the mirror. Don't think most people have to wonder "is she or isn't she" anymore, at least I hope so!

OP posts:
Arcadie · 14/10/2009 20:43

ScarySarah: Big congrats on the boy. And well done on admitting that it's a faint disappointment.... you can't do it in RL but we (I) definitely understand.... however D- on the list - it's still got my old EDD on it. Must do better...

TakeLovingChances · 14/10/2009 21:09

I am so tired.

20 weeks tomorrow, woohoo!

Was visiting my cousin today and her 2 week old daughter, Lily. So cute Named after my granny who died 8 years ago, so a nice way to remember her.

Got me thinking about baby names, so just spent TOO LONG looking at MN names threads. My eyes are sore now.

I have a bit of a problem which isn't really a 'real' problem, but it irks me. My mum I is really rude about some of the names me and DH come up with, and it hurts my feelings a bit.

I will list them for you ladies, as you all seem more enlightened than my traditional working class mum from inner city Belfast.

Girls:
Eliza, Juliet, Catherine, Elodie, Emmeline.

Boys: Ezra, Nathaniel, Caleb, Jonah, Joel.

These lists are in no way set in stone and I can imagine myself changing my mind about all of them between now and when DC is due.

scarysarahandco · 14/10/2009 21:15

sorry about the list ladies it was at the end of the thread(page 20 to be precise) and i just copied it!!!lol Please add an up to date one if you have one!!!!LOL
what am i like!!!!!!!!! nite all off to bed to read my baby boy name book!!!!!! Although still think its gonna be George Elliott,

TheMummyonElkStreet · 14/10/2009 21:27

TLC first reaction is:

  • at least you've chosen some different names and i like all of them, they are classy, traditional and not odd at ALL.
  • I definitely have my favourites amongst those but i'm sure you are already thinking about how the names will shorten themselves to nicknames etc, and how you'd do that yourselves and lead the way..
  • and finallly...it's none of your mum's business, really....and i speak having watched one friend have her parents talk her out of her first choice name with DD1...only to end up calling her DD2 that name!! you can't change their spots - and more importantly - they can't change yours! (her choice was Kitty - lovely name and suits her DD2)
v tired and have a slightly wakeful Elk on my hands. Onwards.
Summer2008 · 14/10/2009 22:11

TLC I sympathise about your mother's reaction to the names. My mother would be exactly the same. This is one of the reasons I am not telling anyone my name until it's a "done deal".

Arcadie · 15/10/2009 10:59

TLC

Girls:
Eliza, Juliet, Catherine, Elodie, Emmeline.

LOVE THEM! Elodie would be my top name for mine if it's a girl but DH won't countenance it.
DH "Sounds like someone couldn't spell Melody"
RKD: "But it's a beautiful traditional French name"
DH: "We're not French"
RKD "Nor are we Hebrew but look at DS's name"
DH: "not having it and that's final.
RKD: "Huff"

Boys: Ezra, Nathaniel, Caleb, Jonah, Joel.

And again you've got one of my fave boys names. LOVE Nathaniel. Not allowed. "Huff"

Need a three syllable boys name to go with DS and DD

Arcadie · 15/10/2009 11:01

EmLouT · 15/10/2009 11:11

TLC - I really like all the names. My mother was very rude about the name I gave DS (Timothy) but I gave him the name anyway and now she says she can't imagine him being anything else.

Very upset I am not on the list - am due 5th March - having a boy.

DH is now back from trip so I'm feeling a lot more settled and DS did his first poo on the potty today so (I know I sound mad) I am celebrating as potty training now seems an option before this baby is born.

MandaHugNKill · 15/10/2009 11:13

Oh, yay Arcardie! It's a good job I'm not completely irrational or else I'd have been so upset to be put back on the list to then vanish from it just seconds later :P

Have to admit I'm totally anal about getting things 'right' too - even when my rational mind tells me it 'doesn't matter' or it's really no big deal. But for the fact I still feel reletively new to thread, I would have gone searching for the 'right' list too .

This horrible way of being shoots me in the foot often. Especially when I really need help around the home - I'll ask one of the DC or SO to do something, then hover anxiously trying REALY HARD to no interrupt and ask why they're doing it their way an not MY way and then fight the urge to re-do what they've done. I also find it very hard to give praise as I feel it's not up to 'my' standards.

God damn irrational 'perfectionist' traits. I wish I was perfect at not sweating the small stuff!

Oh, Happy Thursday all! I had a wonderful noghts sleep last night and feel much better as a result.
