Scan day here too- the second half of my 20 week scan so hope that Babypearls is more cooperative this time....also hope that they confirm whether or not she is a girl.

Don;t know if the pOcket Dictator hads any idea about the baby although she did stare at my tummy today when I was getting dressed: her favourite game is poking my tummy button back in

In a quandary about the Flu jab- didn't think I was going to but have been speaking to a lot of people and am now beginning to feel that the greater risk would be to not have it.

[waves to all then tries to get some work done as 'working from home']

Sariska · 26/10/2009 13:45

I think I'm leaningtowards having the swine flu vacc. Would prefer it if they were offering the vaccine without the adjuvant to pregnant women but don't think that will be the decisive factor for me. Would definitely like ds to have it but have no idea when it (if) is going to be offered to healthy children and, as far as I understand, the Nhs have bought all available stocks of the vaccine in the country so no possibility of getting it privately.

Sorry to hear about your 5am wake up calls mumbot. It's a horrible time of day, which we were spared yesterday only because ds has some sort of virus, which meant he was in bed with us from 5.30am and slept until almost 8. Utterly unheard of for him! Was 6 today, which I was perfectly happy with, especially as his temp was down from almost 40 to just above 38.

Hope you feel better soon Pacific. Sounds like a miserable collection of ailments.

Good luck to all with scans today. Looking forward to hearing the results.

PacificWerewolfwoohood · 26/10/2009 13:58

Good luck with all scans today, how exciting!

I've survived a visit to the toddler group with DS3; echo-y (is this a word??) church hall accustics sounded really weird with my dull ear.

Amazingly we had no absurdly early wakenings, I did not really appreciate it at the time how lucky we were, but poor Sariska. Hope it gets better soon.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I am quite sure I do not have SF just now. If my silly white count came up all'd be well... But not much you can do about bone marrow's production of the stuff. Oh, well, I am still taking Pregaday, really more for good luck than anything else ..

My understanding is that all children will be offered SF vacc, just the under 2s and at risk groups first, so no need to worry about getting it privately. I am not too worried about the adjuvant as I have never had a vaccination reaction. I even had seasonal flu vacc 5 years ago when pregnant before I realised that I was pregnant with DS2 (seasonal flu vacc NOT licensed for pregnancy) and all was well.

Anyway, totally agree, everybody has to make up their own minds about what risk seems to be the more acceptable one to them .

swingsofglory · 26/10/2009 14:31

Afternoon all,

Sorry to hear your still feeling rough PW - hope it doesn't go on much longer.

I'm recovering from the weekend as it was DD's 2nd birthday complete with family visits, toddler's party and general celebrations. It was good fun although it did look like a bomb had hit after we had 9 small children round on Saturday. Only took a few hours to put the house back together...

I have thought about the swine flu jab and personally have decided against it - I'm not in a high risk profession / situation and I really don't fancy it. From what I understand the PCT's in London are receiving supplies of the cheaper vaccine which is the one not approved by the WHO. As Pacific Werewolf says though - I think it's an entirely personal decision that everyone needs to make based on their own circumstances and attitudes to risk.

On the plus side, it's a beautiful day here and I've been able to hang the washing out in the garden!

BulletProofMum · 26/10/2009 15:25

Hi all - back from a couple of weeks int he states - Chicago is a great city!

No time to catch up ...

just to say tha I have now decided to have the vaccine - the decider was me was that 6 pregnant women int he UK have died. Given that the total must be approx 110 deaths that puts it high risk to me.

Believe or not (to the sceptics) neither Pharma or the government would recommend a mass vaccination program is they didn't feel the pros outweighed the risks. Especially in pregnant women!

I'm still all 'la la la, not thinking about it' when it comes to the SFvaccine. My gut instinct is usually very good but doesn't seem to kick in until I have to make a decison and as yet I've not been invited to have the vaccine...

Therefore I'm postponing a decision until I lurch at the answer when the invite comes. I know I sound bonkers, but many of my life decisions have been made this way.

I've said decision too many times in this posting so far.

Looking forward to reading today's scan results... but strangely not really looking forard to mine tomorrow despite impatiently counting down the days since it was booked nine whole weeks ago. I dont know if it's that I'm quite poorly still/again (coughing, achey - if it's flu, it's kinda mild but still NOT fun) or the reality that this is actually the ANOMOLY scan rather than the Identify the Sex scan I've been perceiving it as.

I shouldn't be worried - my risk assessment for the NT scan/bloods went from 1:270 for my age to 1:13,000 when they combined the results. But... still. Ugh.

TheMummyonElkStreet · 26/10/2009 19:07

hi all
YES i meant SF not SW - what a nobber, apologies for being thick/pgheaded...
i'm also 'lalala head in sand' til i get something to make me decide (like the dr appointment through the post etc etc)

Looking forward to the scan results - also had great news today of a friend whose DC2 was born literally into her DH's hands in the bathroom after a 1hr15 labour!! I'll have one of those please?!!! Midwife didn't even get there in time!!

And finally....am utterly fed up after a shite day at work, it's one of those rubbish ones where being part time is great for a bit and then you realise actually your career is going NOWHERE and actually it's quite hard to get anyone to help you whilst meanwhile your output is decidedly below average and you are worrying about how everyone else (all full time and NOT mothers) perceives you. my vote is they think i'm a workshy under achiever.
Right. am better for that rant.
Thanks ladies!!

Congratulations on feeling bb move , just wait until it kicks you in the bladder, or is that just mine?
On sf my doc said not to worry, but pregnant women will be offered the vaccine here (France) after the medics. I haven't decided what to do yet. I work at a college, so it's fairly high risk.

TheMummyonElkStreet · 26/10/2009 21:34

IWCAS congrats!! amazing moment and so glad you shared it with us all - where did you feel it (i mean, i know it was probably tummy area, but was it up high, or low, was it a flick flick feel or what?)
thanks for cheering upness - have ranted a bit to a friend in similar profession and she completely got it.
right, off to bed.
WHERE ARE THE SCANEES?? hope all ok - we are looking forward to news!
(angouleme do you live there? is it that lush place on the hill? stopped there in june on the way home, vvvvv nice)(nice baby shop called something like z-enfant too, bought too much - ooh you could start us a MarchMailOrder!!! ha ha only kidding)

Angouleme · 26/10/2009 22:11

I do live in angouleme and it's lush at the moment really good weather and autumn colours, but I still miss the uk this time of year. The mists, the frosty mornings, ploughed fields, leek shows... ahhhh.
Hope you have a better day tomorrow mummyelk!

rebeccacad · 27/10/2009 04:44

Hello all

quick post as we completed on our sale and purchaase yesterday so spent the last week or so packing and yesterday frantically moving!

IWCAS how lovely! Makes it feel a bit more real doesn't it. My LO is very active and after not each much and dashing around all of yesterday when I finally sat down and ate something I got a strong belt in the tummy as if to tell me off for not taking care of her all day - oops.

PW I feel for you having to deal with MIL and feeling under the weather. Extra chocolate this week please.

MummyElk really hoping today is better for you at work than yesterday. I find chocolate a helper with shitty work days too!

SF vaccine - going against the trend on this thread and won't be having it. My DAd's a consultant and said there have been too many probs with flu vaccines before and this one hasn't been tested as extensively. He won't be having it himself and doesn't think I should - but will let me know if/when he thinks I should. As others have said it's about risk assessment and what you feel comfortable with - I'm sure for 99.9% of us neither SF or a reaction to the vaccine would be very damaging.

Good luck with all the scans. Manda I suddenly felt like that before my scan - but it's very reassuring to tick everything off and sure all will be well with yours.

Right off for some middle of the night unpacking - can't sleep a wink!

becky7000 · 27/10/2009 08:27

Sorry I haven't posted for ages but I have been reading!

I'm back at work, working shifts so a bit knackered to be honest although not sure which is harder work, nursing or looking after 3 kids! Sometimes work seems like a break!

Anyway, huge congrats to good scans and increasing the boy count. Was beginning to think I was on my own!

Just grabbing a few minutes to myself before work later. Cbeebies has become my best friend, especially since DCs haven't got the whole clock changing thing either. I will keep checking in when I can. Good luck to anyone still waiting for scans.

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 27/10/2009 08:32

Morning all- scan went well. Babypearls cooperated and they are still thinking she's a she. Placenta still a cause for concern so have another scan in a few weeks to check it's location (joy). I tell you, I'd have killed for all these extra scans first time round, now I'm just worried about who will watch the POcket Dictator!!

IWCAS- great news and glad you could share it with us.

PW- totally second Rebecca. I have an inlaw weekend coming up....

Rebecca- great news on the move. At least you are doing it before the baby arrives (ours ended up eing 5 weeks after.

Hugs to all having a shitty week. I cannot sympathise enough. Roll on maternity leave hey?

TMD · 27/10/2009 08:43

Hi all
Scan went well all seems fine. But wouldn't co operate to get good picky! :-( But at least we can relax bit now!

Up since 5.10am so in need of match sticks, LO just won't sleep! xx

Catch up soon.

Good luck for all other scans
xxx

BulletProofMum · 27/10/2009 12:27

Rebecca - great news on the move!

I'm so jealous... we've just dropped the price again and desperate to sell. Really cutting fine now to have any possibility of moving beofre the baby.
Have you finished unpacking?

PacificWerewolfwoohood · 27/10/2009 13:51

You poor house sellers/movers, good luck to you all! 'tis just the worst thing to have to go through isn't it? I've sold and moved once when pregnant and once with 2 DCs under 2 years, and both was not easy or pleasant. Really thinking of you.
Congrats to Rebecca on successful completion and good luck to BulletProof .
I will NOT be moving from this house until I need to go to sheltered housing, LOL!

Oh, and lots of permission/encouragement to eat more chocolate! I can do that ! To be fair MIL brought some nice Belgian Chocolates, not that there are lots of them left.

IWCAS, how lovely that you had movement! I do love when that happens, it does make everything seem a bit more real . My LO seems to have active and lazy days. If it weren't for my girth I could sometimes forget I am pregnant...

Anyway, hope you are all having a good day.

MandaHugNKill · 27/10/2009 14:40

So, I'm back from my scan!

I made it clear to the lovely sonographer when we went in that I'd really like to know the sex and asked her if it was possible to get a 'toilet shot' (imagine you're inside a toilet, looking up at someone sitting on the throne... that's the toilet shot ) and take a guess myself. She seemed quite tickled I'd asked and said certainly.

So all the usual checks were fine, she mentioned in all her time she'd NEVER seen a baby whose legs were so very tightly closed. I said I could believe it given how it's dominated my thoughts for weeks... sod's law, right? Then she went to look at the heart. Baby was laying face down, and although squirming a bit, not really moving about. She couldn't visualise the heart quite as well as she'd like so got me to lay on my side. Still no good, so turned me on my right - where I couldn't see the screen! At this point she says 'ah, I can see between it's legs now - what do you think?' I'm strining my neck trying to see the screen and wail 'I can't see it!' at which point SO pipes up 'That's a willy!'. She laughed yes it was and then pointed out the scrotum and that there was really no doubt.

So add me to team Blue :D

However, she still couldn't get the shots she needed of the heart so although she stressed she's not worried about it I have to return in two weeks for a re-scan (and pictures - face down baby means no pics this time). Also had to book a scan for 34 weeks as I have placenta previa again! THis happened with my son (athough I bleed quite a lot throughout the pregnancy with him and so far nothing with this one) so it must be a boy thing :p Luckily (or, as usually happens) the placenta moves up with ds1 - my fingers are crossed for the same outcome this time as I really really don't fancy a cs (although will accept it if I have to).

Now I'm going to buy some cute BOY STUFF! Hurrah!

PacificWerewolfwoohood · 27/10/2009 16:40

Well done, BabyManda! Hmm, that sounds strangely wrong for a boy !
Hope your placenta will behave itself and get pulled up with increasing uterus size. I had Placenta Praevia with DS2, 'tis all good now, but was not much fun at the time. Good to hear you have not bled in this pregnancy .

Lots and lots of cute boy stuff out there, enjoy!

TakeLovingChances · 27/10/2009 17:24

Ohh, reading about all these scans is making me very excited about having my scan tomorrow

Congrats to you all!

Will be on here like a shot tomorrow when I'm home from hospital with news about Baby C.... although we aren't going to find out what sex he/she is.

We went for the 3d scan today here in Florida and the woman doing the scan said she is confident it's a...... GIRL! And as far as she could see everything looked normal. I thought the face looked scary though, like a little monkey baby! I was/am a little bit disappointed as I think I wanted a boy more (we have a DD and I wanted one of each). But now I'm getting used to the idea and I think it will be really nice for DD to have a sister. DH prefers girls so he's happy. I'm looking forward to the scan at home next week to make sure everything is normal as that's the most important thing!

Hi all,
Have managed to catch up a bit on what everyone's been up to, and had planned to write lots, but have had one heck of a day with my DD and am about to flake out and go to sleep...

I've no idea what's going on with her, but can only imagine aliens have abducted my charming trouble-free little girl and replaced her with the Toddler From Hell this week...

We've had, just today: hair pulling, food throwing, buggy refusal, smearing food on the walls, hanging off my legs/lying down holding my foot as I tried to clean up the mess she'd made while wailing/screaming and over an hour of refusing to go to bed tantrums...

Baby no.2 hasn;t made a move all day - I think he/she is hiding from his/her future big sister, and, frankly I don't blame him/her...

I'm bushed.
Night night...

Hey girls, I thought I would share with you the wonder that is my bump band. I have not done a lot of shoppig for maternity stuff, just a few key items, i figure when I REALLY need it the wontery stuff will be in the sale and I'll get some bargains.

In the mean time I have my 2 new bump bands that I got at the baby show a couple of weeks back. I was doing an important presentation in London yesterday and my black band over my undone black trousers with a normal jumper over the top worked wonders. I was THE MOST COMFORTABLE person in London. it was great.

Manda I had the same as you, low lying placenta and baby hiding his little face so am back this Friday for another scan to check the face. Hoping to get a pic as we didn't get one last week and amazingly everyone actually wants to see it! Booked in in Jan for my low lying placenta checking scan. Have done a bit of reading on that and doesn't seem worth worrying about right now.

Feeling good otherwise ladies, hope you all are too.
