What is it with pregnancy and crazy moodswings? Yesterday I was at one with the universe, so far today I have been horrid to ds because he was messing about getting dressed for school, grumped at the friend we ran into on the way to school, and blubby about work, and just feel bleurgh and like I should hibernate, far from the rest of the world. And it's only half past ten!
Went to aquanatal for first time yesterday and now feel as though someone is sawing my pubic bone in half. The good news is that I have physio this pm. The bad news is that the physio is a (lovely) woman who was in my first post natal class four years ago. She is a brilliant professional, a size 8, and has had three children in the four years since we met! Last time I saw her a couple of weeks ago I was all hot and sweaty and smelly and felt most ungainly in comparison!!! Dreading having to stand in my knickers, cellulite a go go, and be prodded again this afternoon!
Incidentally, this woman gave me the best piece of advice ever as a new mum, which was: before doing anything else in the morning, get up, have a shower and get dressed so that you feel like a human being. As I had spent weeks in a milky dressing gown and slippers prior to this point her advice was a total revelation!
Five weeks to go........

scarlotti · 29/09/2009 10:49

Pav do you have the voucher for the free nappy bag from Boots? If not, I do and won't need it as I have another so you're welcome to it if you like?
Also, have just bought a velux blind from here and it was much cheaper than Velux but is a proper velux blind. Think I paid £68 for it and it would have been £120 on the velux site.
You'll enjoy the room once you're up there and I think it's a good thing you're not bothered by it all as much now - not good carrying all that stress.

I've been buying extra stuff we needed on eBay over the last few months. Only now has my Mum piped up and asked if we need anything Not sure whether to say, yes we've bought a fair bit so feel free to chip in for that? Does that sound a bit mean? Not sure if she's wanting me to come up with a something she can actually go and get iyswim?

DS' hours drop at nursery next week as that would have been when I planned to leave work. Scary as the change is making me feel like I only have this week to get sorted - does that make sense? It's nonsense obviously, but I can't get it out of my head!!
Going to check DS' car seat fits into the car today. We have one of those funny belts for the middle seat that comes down from the roof ... not sure that's going to go around the car seat base ok so might have to rethink who will sit where!
Things are never simple eh?!

Morning all!

Adding myself as I wasn't online yesterday but I did however have my hosp appt.

Wee bit disappointed with my scan - only because the registrar was so formal and business-like that I didn't getting a very good look at the screen!! DH however is convinced that he now knows what we're having - he had a much better view than me.
Apart from that all good - baby is head down, plenty of amniotic fluid, placenta looks good.
Size-wise - the main reason for the scan, baby is measuring about 35+2 weeks - although knowing how inaccurate the scans can be, knowing that at the mo baby is head down is plenty of reassurance for me.

In the meanwhile - just over 2 weeks of work to go - not that I'm counting!!

Hope everyone is doing ok!

Kyte, Pavlov same here being married to a night owl. DH goes to bed at about 12.30 and I wake up to go to the loo then. But then he gets up for work at 5.30am! He's nuts. I stay in bed until 7.30am. Before I was pg and sleeping like a normal person I sometimes had no memory of him coming to bed at all except the rumpled duvet.

Ninja I think you win the not-yet-organized award! But there's still plenty of time. I have a friend here who thinks I am really strange not being more organized because she started buying stuff for her little boy before her pregnancy test was even dry... when I told her I was pregnant back in March / April I was only 5 weeks and having had two MCs I told her I was a bit nervous and she said 'oooh you can have my steriliser, my bouncy chair, and a baby bath we never used!' Cripes.

Morning!

becky I know what you mean. I think our lack of preparation and the 'sleep in a bucket and use a wheelbarrow as a pram' attitude is a reaction to our friends' having been prepared and sitting around waiting at about three months to go!

We're going to buy lots of stuff on ebay. I've looked at a silver cross or a brio pram (thanks broodzilla!!), might see if we can get one of those changing thingies that you put across the top of the cot on there, too.

My cousin just came back from Poland last weekend with a bundle of clothes from my sister - can't wait to get my hands on them!

Broodzilla · 29/09/2009 12:04

I've just written a really long post and it's disappeared! Something strange is going on in Casa Broodzilla technology-wise, I also can't text anyone and my phone keeps telling people it's switched off when it's not. Maybe it's time I start wearing a foil hat?

Basically, just wanted to say I symphatise with all those not sleeping well, glad to hear the good news about scans etc and so grateful for all the BF/Birthing stories.

For any other first-timers out there, I managed to find quite a few BF instruction videos on youtube, and they really were very good (whether I'll actually remember any of it when the time comes is a different matter...) I really recommend having a look as there seems to be a very specific way of positioning the baby's mouth on the breast which wasn't anything like what I'd THOUGHT it would be.

Also, Skorpion if you do decide to go for the Brio, get one from paulstride.co.uk fantastic, quick service AND the pram/pushchair combo worked out at 1/2 price from other retailers!

skorpion · 29/09/2009 12:27

Oooh, thanks broodzilla - looking at it now.

tigger32 · 29/09/2009 12:41

Well hello, I've finally caught up with you all!!!

I've had the weekend from hell with my in laws, mama2tom I can fully sympathise with you!
I have waited hand and foot on them since Thursday, they've not even made me a single cup of tea! They have told me that ds2 (aged just 3) is behind as he can't recognise the number 10 written down, they have shouted at the boys for making too much noise, slept in my bed with out a thank you and fil has argued with me constantly about everything. I have to say though I'm ashamed to say I seem to have lost my ability to bite my tongue (Oh well they deserved it)
Anyway they have gone home now

laugs going back to one of your earlier posts, no I didn't get to give birth in the water, I got out about an hour before as ds's heartbeat went funny. Fingers crossed I'll do it this time!!

pav I'm loving that you're not organised it makes me feel so much better, although I hadn't thought of getting a snowsuit might look into that.

fubble glad your baby was healthy and heading in the right direction.

This thread is moving really fast, we must have too much time on our hands, I think the next one will have the 1st birth!

skorpion · 29/09/2009 13:19

koumak meant to say I'm the same. Back to loading up on carbs - I think I could live on bread and cheese. How about a recipe for knedliki (don't know the native spelling - this is what we call them in Poland)?

ursigurke · 29/09/2009 13:26

My list seems to get longer everyday too. And I actually need lists of what I have to do during the day (organising, packing, ordering,...) - on tomorrows list is a big fat "going to the hairdresser"

I don't remember but wasn't there someone with a baby in back to back position? Can they only find out by a scan or actually feel it? Or is there any way of telling / feeling yourself? I'm wondering since a couple of days if mine couldn't be back to back just from where I feel kicks. But I've heard that usually this would mean to have lots of back ache which I have not really (or is that just during birth?)

erika spread some more of your good mood...

beepbeep · 29/09/2009 14:28

Scarlotti - didn't realise you needed a voucher for the Boots bag, was hoping to go along, buy a pack of nappies and get bag as i'm a member of the parenting club? where did you get the voucher?

Ursigurke - DS was back to back for a while (last pregnancy), the MW was able to tell the way he was laying and I was also getting quite sore in my back. Not sure if that is typical of back to back. Also was getting kicks and prods all over the place, whereas this one is kicking and pushing mainly to my right hand side (so it's laid with spine down my left if that makes sense?)

really uncomfortable today and keep getting hot flushes!!

just realised that i have to give 21 days notice for changing the start date of my maternity leave and haven't goty this long left, was hoping to bring it forward by 2 weeks. So now i'm planning on going sick for 3 days which puts me into the 4 weeks before EDD and they start maternity leave automatically. i know that's a bit wrong but i've been working towards next thursday and don't think i'll be able to drag myself in for much longer.

getting new car tomorrow, very excited tho will be bit sad to see the old one go, we bought it just before DD was born and it's been brilliant. strange how you get attached to these things?!

skorpion · 29/09/2009 14:35

beepbeep - yes, we've just received the death certificate for our old car from DVLA (srappage scheme) - made me very sad...

I suddenly have an urge to start sorting the house out - it needs a good de-junking and cleaning from top to bottom (dh's bike den in the basement included). Problem is, last Saturday after a couple of hours of light gardening my back gave up! Very sore. But I cannot possibly sit on my bum for the next eight or so weeks and do nothing.

BeckyBendyLegs · 29/09/2009 14:55

I've been dejunking bit by bit so it must be a symptom of early nesting. Don't tell the DSs but quite a bit of their old big plastic crap has mysteriously left the house (only things they haven't played with for at least a year / broken things but you know how children can be attached to any old junk when it is threatened with the bin / charity shop).

How am I going to cope with three!!! I've only got two hands, two knees, two eyes etc.

They say though (whoever they are) that the jump from one to two is huge but two to three isn't so hard. We'll see.

Just too tired to do anything - physically. Feel like such an old woman at the moment.

Hurts above my bump when I cough or sneeze too. What's that all about?

OP posts:
skorpion · 29/09/2009 15:05

Yes, I have to admit the urge to clean has been just that so far - an urge. I look at stuff and then just become overwhelmed and give up.
Also, had a 'funny' episode at tescos on sunday - felt overwhelmed there, too, couldn't for the life of me think what we needed food-wise for the week so just bought lots of yogurt and fruit and cheese. Ended up crying on the way back home thinking that if I can't sort stupid weekly shopping out, how on earth am I going to look after a kid?

Trikken · 29/09/2009 15:18

I found being pregnant with all the hormonal stuff and physical things you are unable to do harder than looking after ds, dont worry skorpion, im sure you will be marvellous.

skorpion · 29/09/2009 15:25

Thanks, trikken. I'll just avoid supermarkets from now

Trikken · 29/09/2009 15:36

I keep getting the urge to chew on my bath poof, my mouth was actually salivery. gaa. and cleaning products smell delicious too.

skorpion · 29/09/2009 15:45

Interesting... Do you think this comes under nesting or weird cravings??

tigger32 · 29/09/2009 16:04

BBL I could have written your last post, that is just how I'm feeling! Although have just been chatting on the playground and everyone keeps saying how awkward 3rd babies are: births, not sleeping, etc...

lemontop · 29/09/2009 17:05

trikken early on in this pregnancy I loved the smell of cleaning products and soap/shampoo on people!

I've had a bit of a cookathon this aftermoon. Made big pots of leek & potato soup, lentil stew and bolognese sauce for spag bol and a lasagne. Also sorted out kitchen cupboards and think I might have found a space to put a dishwasher! My mate who has a young baby keeps telling me to get a dishwasher as it would be a life saver. Hmm now just need to work out how to getDHto remove a cupboard without destroying kitchen worktop! The kitchen is so old and horrible and really needs replacing but we can't afford it.

Keep getting loads of braxton hicks as well. At least I hope that's what they are!

Sorry I forget who was asking about nappy change bags. As we mainly have everything for this baby already from DS, I am going to buy myself a nice bag as I never did this with DS. Boots are doing a nice Tote bag £31 and you get triple points on line. I like the red one. I'm drawing the line at spending more than £30 give or take a few pence.

Laugs · 29/09/2009 17:42

lemontop please can we come over for dinner? our cupboards are bare and I am trying to conjure up dinner out of thin air. No food and no inspiration.
Got an enormous tesco delivery coming tonight though! Such a relief as I'm getting really worn out doing the shopping (and I always whinge if DH does it)- neither of us drive. Link to £10 off a £50 spend for all the nesters who need to stock up
