Hey Cookie - I am in the same situation and I was talking to a girl at Bumps and Babes who told me her baby didn't engage until 40+4 then she went into labour at 40+6 and had a totally straightforward labour and birth at home. I feel better knowing it can work out okay but will still be hoping for better news next time I see the midwife.

Saraheb - glad the baby has turned and you are now back under midwife care.

Due 1st Oct with 2nd DS, although can't help falling into trap of geting all excited every time have, say, 3 BHs in a row only to be disappointed when they go away!

Tips for getting labour going anyone?? Please?!!

Gosh this thread is moving fast.

What I know about paternity leave from my sister (who handily works in my DH's HR department!) is that all fathers are entitled to two weeks paternity leave, but that the two weeks MUST be taken together (you can't take one week and then another a few weeks later) but these don't necessarily have to be immediately after the birth. The government pays £123.80 a week in paternity pay, which is administered through the dad's employers. A lot of employers choose to top this up so that the dads can have full pay for those two weeks, but they don't HAVE to do this.

I was at the number of mums in my NCT class who said that their husbands were only getting the statutory minimum for their paternity leave - most of them work for big law firms/ banks etc. The government make a big fuss about how family friendly they are, but the effect of their policy is that many families see a huge dip in income in the first few weeks after their babies are born. Unless your DH's company offer an enhanced package, or you really need him at home and can afford to take the hit, most of us would be better off if they take holiday rather than paternity leave. Slightly shocking, but there it is.......

I'm lucky in that my DH can take two weeks paternity leave at full pay, so we don't have the issue, but I feel for those of you who are going to struggle. It's a ridiculous amount of money to expect a family with a new baby to live off .

Was just going to say about paternity pay but treats has beaten me to it. There is info on directgov website, but of course each company can choose to be more generous than that.

Hi everyone completely fed up too.
Cookiemonster am due next fri too lets see who has baby first.Babys head not engaged either but its my 3rd so might not till labour anyway. Am measuring 2 weeks smaller but GP not concerned but I am as only grown about 1 cm in 2 weeks.Will see MW on 6th October for sweep if nothing has happened god thats still 2 weeks away hope he`ll be here then.

My DSis is from Germany next fri and leaves on 7thOctober so she might actually miss the baby but she doesn`t have time after as going back to uni.Not looking forward to it much as will still have to cook and clean.My parents are coming middle of October baby should be here then.

Just thinking I might have up to 3 weeks left is horrendous.Cant believe hes not here yet.

inahurrymummy I dont believe theres anything to help start things have tried curry and fresh pineapple but nothing.Sex is supposed to work but I won`t be getting any DP absolutely refuses.

devilsadvocaat hope something happens soon.Been having period cramps and backache for a week now surely these baby`s will make an appearance soon.

My waters are definitely seeping so phoned the ward but they want more of a flood before they will admit me.

Hi all!

Is there room for one more on this thread? 38 weeks today. I'm from the UK but living in the middle East.

This is my third DC (1 dd and 1ds so far) but first one out here - bit of a different experience I can tell you.

Due 8/10 but have been given the dilemma as to whether to go for an elective c-section following a third degree tear with my ds. If I do, due date will be 1/10 - yikes!

I seem to be suffering the same symptoms as everyone else: heartburn, sleepless nights, pelvis pain etc.

Exciting to see that a couple of people seem to be getting very close to delivery - good luck!

inahurrymummy I asked mw this question on Monday and she recommended rasberry leaf tea and capsules. Can't say they've made any difference so far though!

My mum reckons most first babies are late-please does anyone have any tales of first babies that were early or on time? I'll go mad if I have to wait another 3 weeks

I was on this thread in the start, but i mc at 6 weeks, and it's really odd but lovely to see your babies are nearly coming I am due Xmas Day now, with our 2nd daughter (dc4). I would have been due Oct 8th.

I am in Oman, fabulous country and the healthcare has been very good - different to the UK in that all the antenatal appointments are with the doctor, not the midwives. But there are midwives there plus doctor when you deliver. Not quite sure how it all works but sure I'll find out soon.

And to answer your question about first babies always being late - my first - dd was 8 days early. So there is hope!

Hi all, wow lots of movement on here today.

I had some blood this morning and have felt really crampy, prob tmi but I cant seem to get off the toilet either, I also thought I had leaked some water this morning so put a pad on and was dry so it looks like I have just lost control of my blader.

Have been for my growth scan and baby is measuring 38 weeks, so my mind is at rest now, Baby was also is 4/5 engaged.

Saraheb Im also the same, possible infection coming or labour, will know more when the results come back I guess. Well done on being signed off though.

HC Fingers crossed things are moving for you.

Today would have been a great day to deliver they were so quiet, I had a pick of 3 midwives saw 2 consultants at once and was taken in 15 mins early for scan. They couldnt believe how slow it was.

As a final note I decided to be lazy today an order pizza, unfortunatly they got pineapple and jalapenos mixed up and my pizza was very hot, so not going to help my toilet issues is it.

was having some mild ctx over the last few hours. they ranged from a bit ouchy to usual bh tightenings. seem to have stopped now though. felt really spaced out earlier when it was all happening. just going to have something to eat now as i didn't fancy my dinner

can't wait to see the baby on the scan tomorrow, am also wondering if they'll examine me as i am still losing blood and have been since monday. they said i might need another anti-d but i think i said that earlier...

am sending cervix opening vibes to everyone who wants them

Devils I had blood this morning and they didnt examine me after my scan, but you have been bleeding for a few days now and if the ctx start again I have a feeling they will. Good luck though.

Busy, busy!

Hi newbees, welcome to the thread!

Well i had an eventful night.

Dp came home at 6pm yesterday and once i'd finished ds's tea went to bed at about 6.30pm as was feeling dodgy. Woke up feeling really odd two hours later, headache, tingly fingers, short of breath etc. So called the hospital, (Not my local one but the one where i had ds) and had a panic attack on the phone and started crying, I felt really out of control, which is unlike me as i'm a fairly chilled person that takes most things in their stride.

The midwife asked me to come in so we dropped ds at MIL's on the way in.
They were great tested to see if it was preeclampsia or a blood clot as my feet are so swollen. I had to wear some rather lovely flight socks,
and underwent,
*chest x-ray
*blood tests
*I was given two anti-clotting injections
*then this morning sent for a chest scan where they inject dye into your blood and you lay under a big dough nut shaped scanner, so they can get sliced shots of the lungs.

All in all I am fine! I have 'lovely lungs' very healthy according to the registrar lol.
They put down the swelling just to increased blood flow. And the shortness of breath to my mild asthma, i have never suffered an attack or used an inhaler for about 8 years so i didn't think it could be down to that at the time, but it makes sense as my lungs are under extra strain, now that i am carrying around an extra 3+ stones!

By this morning i was feeling fine, breathing normally and felt a total fraud. Also a bit rubbish seeing mums with their new babies and hearing newborns crying. Knowing i wasn't in labour.

Very impressed on how thorough the hospital is though! If i'd gone to my local hospital i'm sure they would have done the very basic checks and sent me home. If mothers deliver during the day they aim to get them home as soon as three hours after delivery i've heard. They are just so under staffed and over stretched i think.

HC- How exciting i started getting contractions two days after my waters started leaking, have they said that they will induce you if you don't go into labour with-in a 72 hour window? As well as not to having baths or sex to lesson the risk of infection?

DA- Come on baby i say tonight, i have a feeling you'll wake up early morning with contractions!

I had to have that scan and blood dye thingy when I was about 12 weeks pregnant with dd. I did not enjoy it!!

It has taken me ages to catch up.

TMI but I have more BH when I need to go to the loo (Number 2!) and since my bowels are a bit slow I can have crazy BH for a few days !!!However been to the loo and things have calmed down.

I am seeing the consultant and having a scan on Friday.I am hopping they will give me an induction date as I usually need to be induced.Last time I had one pessery and then a very normal labour started within the hour.Although I would love to labour at home I am not scared of the induction process.(and labouring at home with the children around would not be the best !!)

I had a mad shopping trip today, as was going stir crazy in the house.I bought quite a few Xmas pressies.

My good friends husband is off to Afganistan tonight for 7 months.Leaving her and 4 children behind (age 7-1)The regiment that he is taking over from have either lost or been very badly injured by 30% horiffic

DS has been playing in the cot at being a baby and the girls have been putting up the mobile etc. all very sweet.They are so excited.

DH is not the best at the moment but I have to cut him some slack as he gets very nervouse about the birth. I also think that they worry about their loss of freedom.He has a big job and works very hard and sadly he needs me to mother him also (in a very manly way)

My mum lives 30mins away and comes over every week day to help at the moment.She does the afternoon school runs and helps with tea and homework.Not to mention feeding the chickens, washing the eggs picking the apples and making 10 jars of crab apple and bramble jelly.And thats just been in the last 3 days.Sad for thoes of you with family so far away.(I am an only 1 so no other siblings around)

scorps I had an mc last year so I feel your pain, but am really delighted that you are expecting again -that happened really quickly. Really lovely of you to visit.

LMB pleased you are better today, I have been getting tingly feelings in my arms and palpitations, but if I sit down and relax for an hour or so then they disappear. I am still working, so think I've been overdoing it. Last day on Friday thank goodness.

Oh crap i was pissing about leaning over the back of the chair watching telly, in a vain hope to get baby in a better position at about 10pm.

Then had an argument with dp before bed so came down to watch telly at 11.30pm and heard/felt a pop....

my pj shorts were pretty wet but have already made the mistake of thinking my waters were leaking...

put on pad which was soaking in 10 minutes.
put on another pad which is soaking again but pink.... off to hospital AGAIN! poor ds getting up out of bed at all hours.

Well hopefully i'll have a baby soon, well in 72 hours anyway....?
