twinklegreen · 20/10/2009 08:08

I think we're going to need a new thread soon

CalypsoFramboise · 20/10/2009 08:55

Hi all!

BIG Congratulations on the birth of your little ones peaches sarah and flame! Glad all arrived safely

Off to my first Busy Babies class/group thing in a minute! I know a lot of girls there already and Annalise will be the smallest in the group but it'll be nice to actually get out and about somewhere that isn't the supermarket or someone's house for tea

snotty baby noses Snoring loudly was recently added to Annalise's cacophany of wretched sleeping noises, m/w recommended saline drops. Total miracle, and breastfeeding isn't some tortured hour of frantic snorting, bupring, vommiting. So drops are highly recommended (got ours from Boots).

Was discharged from my m/w care on Saturday, and I was quite tearful, she was just the loveliest woman, we gave each other a really big hug and kiss on cheek when we parted, I think she'd enjoyed working with me too. Feel like I've lost a really good friend
Sorry to hear some of you have had really poor m/w care, everyone deserves the care I had. Complain away!

devilsadvocaat · 20/10/2009 09:15

hooray flame! it's finally over

bella - absolutely norm for boobs to feel soft anf baby to feed from both sides. ty not to worry about how much they're getting, as long as they have wet nappies

charlie still feeding very frequently and seems to be getting so big now have to get his wee tested as he is still slightly jaundiced.

hope you're all getting on ok x

FlameHasAnotherChick · 20/10/2009 10:42

Was a post natal thread ever started? I know I muttered a bitter thread title, but don't know if it got further than that

Little lady not keen on latching on atm. She's peeling oodles - you'd think she'd been several weeks late looking at her! DS latched on and fed like a pro within the first hour, so it seems very odd not to have woken with huge norks.

I'm feeling frighteningly good, oddly energised (I've been sorting washing?!!?). Ooh and no hurting when I wee I think I owe the m/w flowers or something by way of thanks for holding me back from pushing.

hackneybird · 20/10/2009 11:41

Congratulations Flame, very very pleased for you and impressed at the lack of stitches etc.

We do indeed need a new thread, but lots of folk had decided it would be fairer to those who haven't popped yet if we all stayed together until eveyone had had their babies.

So if anyone out there has any witty thread title ideas then wheel them out! My brain has gone completely dead. I am now 5 days overdue and getting slightly fed up.

xxx

sammysam · 20/10/2009 11:42

Just popping in quickly....congratulations Flame, peaches and sarah!

Lovely birth story flame-was interesting to read another home water birth

First day flying solo as dp back at work today Got dd1 to pre-school not too late then just saw HV-Zoe is 8lbs 5oz now. She is a very sicky baby so I'm v pleased to hear it isn't stopping her weight gain. We've had several projectile vomits-whole contents of stomach. HV going to keep an eye. Aparently reflux doesn't start til 5 wks so unlikely to be that. She is creating ALOT of washing-dp and I are having to change as well a couple of times a day!

Just to give us more than dd1, a newborn and a wedding to organise we are now putting our house on the market and changing my car! We must be crazy!

Quick question for those with 2 or more children-what car do you have? Dp is quite tall (6'3") and now can't drive my car with both the car seats in-he needs the seat right back-it is a new Astra. We had a look at a focus c-max-it is a better size i think-I don't really want to go much bigger as I doubt my parking skills {grin] Any suggestions on what we should look at?

Have to go and pick up dd1 now-bet we're late

HappyTangerine · 20/10/2009 11:53

Congratulations Flame! I was following the live birth thread and hitting refresh all day yesterday.

Calypso-I was due to be discharged from midwife care today but opted for another visit next week. Midwife has become a friend, I'll be gutted to see her go and I've not really gelled with the hv.

Bella my boobs feel v soft as well, I got a bit concerned last night as I could barely express anything with the pump. Tried hans expressing-no probs. Came to the conclusion that the baby is far more efficient at getting milk out of them than a pump ever will and resolved to stop stressing.

Midwife has just left-Joseph has put on his oz and is back to his birth weight! . Has done wonders for my confidence.

Quick new mum question, hope someone can help. After she'd gone I changed a soiled nappy and noticed that the area around J's er bum hole was very red. Is this nappy rash? Its only come up in the past few hours. He does a lot of pooey nappies. If it is nappy rash, whats the best way of treating it? I feel really stupid asking.

HappyTangerine · 20/10/2009 11:56

meant to say hand expressing, not hans!

FlameHasAnotherChick · 20/10/2009 12:00

tis prob just sore from all the poo and changing. i always found bepanthen good

twinklegreen · 20/10/2009 13:25

bella don't worry about boobs not feeling full it is a good sign that your body is producing just the right amount and as devils said, as long as you are getting plenty of wet and dirty (yellow couloured) nappies everything is fine.

sammysam dh has a new model Mazda 6 and we can fit all three car seats in the back, I have a ford focus and have 2 seats in the back and one in the front which is ok for just me as I don't ever have any other passengers.

HT if it's just a bit red I use zinc and castor oil cream or sudocrem (you probably got a little pot in your bounty pack). Also some people never manage to get any milk from a pump, you're right it's just not as efficient a baby suckling, nothing to do with not having enough milk.

I'm happy to start a new thread, I'm just crap at thinking of witty titles It's a lovely idea to all stay on the post-natal board together until everyone has had their babies, I was on the September post-natal thread and there was only about two people posting by the time I had Amelie on the 30th, which is a bit depressing for the last few overdue at the end

twinklegreen · 20/10/2009 13:26

coloured not couloured

Sugarkane · 20/10/2009 14:07

Well HV has just been and Aiden has gone from 9lb3 birth weight to 10lb1 so I?m really pleased. My DD has also put a little weight on which is great as we have been struggling to get her to gain anything recently.

Big congratulations to Flame great birth story.

sammysam guess you may as well get all the stress out in one go. We rent our house from my mom and she has just spilt up with her partner so will have to sell her rental houses (ours included) so we are currently looking for a new house, my heart really isn?t in it, so hoping to wait until after Christmas.

HT I haven?t tried expressing yet but I could never get anything when I tried with DD, as you say pumps just do not compare to baby.
The redness she has does sound like a little nappy rash, I always used Sudocrem, but found that when teething it got really bad and no amount of changing and nappy free time helped, the only thing that worked was Metanium , (my miracle cream I recommend to everyone who will listen) it got rid of it overnight.

twinklegreen · 20/10/2009 14:12

I agree about metanium, it's great for really bad nappyrash.

Flame Not tearing is just fantastic isn't it, I swear I felt completely back to normal after 3 days, it makes such a difference to the recovery... and it's soooo nice not to have to brace yourself for a pee!

smallone · 20/10/2009 16:35

Congratulations flame

Littlepea Hopefully your hv was just making sure that it was your choice to formula feed.

I went away for a weekend when dd was 4mo and was told to work out how much she needed in a day by multiplying her weight in pounds by 2.5, then you divide that amount by the number of feeds they have in a day. Its obviously not an exact science and I don't know if there is any difference btwn formula and bf but it should give you a guide.

HT I can never get anything in the pump if I try to express alone. If I express one side while I feed the other then I get tonnes, I've got 14oz in the freezer ready for the 4wk mark when we can go onto bottles and I've had to stop at 1oz daily which we give him in a cup at the mo.

We're having a similar problem with our car, both carseats fit fine in the back but dh is 6'2 and dd keeps kicking the back of his chair while he drives. Not a problem for me tho as I'm only 5'2!

I'm 1 lb heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight, not getting too excited tho coz I was the same after dd, but put 1.5stone on in her first 6months -eek! Also my pre-pregnancy jeans are no where near fitting! And I was about 5 stone overweight anyway! Hopefully George will chomp the weight off me!

New thread titles

Some have popped and the rest can't stop.....peeing

Bing bong - this is the final call for October babies, the final call October babies

Thanks for the shopping advice.

Had a friend over the other night who has 2 children of her own and showed me a great tip with the travel system in car seat mode. If I push the car seat handle into the position it should be for the car, it creates a square with the main handle just the right shape and size for fitting a supermarket basket into! Amazing, I can now shop without fear of being followed by the supermarket security guards!

Anyone else's bambino, not put any weight on after the initial weight loss? Ella seems quite happy to sleep most of the day, so have been waking her up around every 2 - 3 hours for a feed, then she falls back asleep straight after. She feeds more at night, but hasn't put on any weight. I am now on a frantic feeding mission to try and get her weight up for the next visit, I'm sure the midwife thinks I must have not bothered to feed her enough!

Wow congrats to all of those who can fit into their pre-preggers jeans. I tried on one of the larger pairs I had before and can squeeze into them but its not convincing and have extreme belly hang over and builders bum! Not a good look!! I think my bum took on a life of its own when I got pregnant!

twinklegreen · 20/10/2009 19:37

I have started a new thread

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 20/10/2009 22:04

I am here!

Wow Flame, giving birth today and back on Mumsnet already, well done. Will read your birth story next...

Bethan Rose was born on Friday at 1.50pm, she was 7lb 2oz.

Will do birth essay later but she was back to back and I needed assistance to get her out. We stayed in hospital a few days as it was a marathon pushing session resulting in a fair few stitches which are mega painful. I can't really walk or move very well but otherwise fine. The milk has come in and thankfully she feeds really well.

Well done everyone on births! and coping with new babies.

dizzytrout · 21/10/2009 11:36

Hello everyone,
Just a quick update whilst I have a few spare moments. Baby Emily Mae was born on 17/10/2009 at 2.09pm weighing 8lbs 8oz.
After waters broke on Friday I went back to hospital after midnight where they found i was 5cm dialated. I used gas and air for a long while but then finally had some diamorphine to help with the pain as it was oging on an awfullt long time.
My blood pressure was going up and my uterus had stopped contracting doen so the consultant decided to do a c-section at around half one in the afternoon.
She is gorgeous and I feel so lucky. We finally got home yesterday evening, it's all a bit overwhelming and scary so I've had a few tears already! Baby Emily wouldn't latch on to the breast either so I've been upset that I'm expressing and formula feeding, I know I peresevered with it for 3 days but she just won't take, it's such a shame, I felt a bit of a failure to be honest but I'm just getting on with it now - as long as she's healthy and happy then I am too xx

fidelma · 22/10/2009 21:15

Hi all I have been trying to catch up for a week and never manage to post as I always get interupted. So a quick post before I read backwards instead of forwards.

It is half term this week so everyoneone is off.DH was asked to be interviewed for an article on parternity leave for the Daily Mail but since his attitudes are a bit in the last centuary he declined. !!!!He worked quite alot when Connor was born but is now having a holiday with the whole family, which has been a better option for us all. My mum stayed and looked adter us all after the birth with DH doing it at the weekend and now he is around to help with half term although he is looking forward to going back to work for a rest !!!

Connor is a sleepy baby during the day but can get a bit colicy in the evenings.I was up between 4am and 7am a few nights ago then everyone got up But at least I know that it wont last forever and it does help to think of all of you.

I am off to try and catch up and see who has delivered. If you are still waiting I am thinking of you it wont be long now. xxx

Andrea75 · 24/10/2009 21:13

I am really out of touch with you all...baby Ben is doing well though, can't believe he's 12 days old now. I'm wondering if he has a bit of colic though in the evenings and early hours he really screams and seems pretty distressed, tries to latch on but keeps not getting latched properly and then screams some more and I try and wind him and sometimes it works, but most often he continues to cry getting v red in the face. Any ideas of advice?!

Will try and catch up a bit more now on what has been going on!!!

jules888 · 29/10/2009 17:26

Hi,
Is there a new thread now?

Congrats to all new mums and babes anf hang in there to those still waiting!

JellytotZ · 29/10/2009 19:10

Hi All,

I had my baby girl on 19th October, Emma Grace weighed 5lb 15 1/2 ounces - very precise !! My waters broke on the Friday and following an examination I was found to be 3cm dilated despite feeling no contractions ... Tens machine got me to 6/7cm dilated and then I used gas and air and had a little go in the birthing pool which I hadnt planned for orignally. After 9hours Emma was born Sooooooo happy!!

We are trying to find our new sense of normality as a family, and the breastfeeding is successful so far with her feeding every 3hours.....However, she is as good as gold in the day and then from 7ish pm she screeeeaaaams the house down!! This has been apparent from day one. So, we plan for this time and reallt sretch the evening out with lots of stimulation followed by a bath and feed and bed which seems to be working...... the main problem is that she just will not sleep in her moses basket! The minute she falls asleep and we put her in, she is awake and frantically kicking and thrashing about until we pick her up! She always ends up in bed with us.....which i know a lot of people have conflicting thoughts about. We have been advised by midwife to start using a dummy to pacify her, which is fine as long as it doesnt interfere with the breastfeeding which i have tried so hard to establish. Im so sorry for the ramblings.... Anybody got any words of wisdom, or had the same sort of thing??? Its our first baby so its all abit daunting and hormones certainly are flying all over the place!

Jellytotz
