Lovely name ruby, and welcome, fluffycats. Have updated list to make sure everyone is on, we can't be leaving smallone out!

I've just been to an NCT coffee morning for local mums to be, some of whom have already popped. I think I'm the only person that hasn't bought a Bugaboo!

Hello fluffycats

lol at all the bugaboos HB, stick to your guns and be different!
for you about your dh not answering his phone, one of my pet hates.

I am still here anyway, no change.
Did any of you read the linked thread in my last post? Any thoughts...?

Ruby Very pretty name, and your birth sounds so lovely and I'm sure the opposite of how mine will be!!

twinklegreen · 09/10/2009 16:00

Hi everyone

Just checking in, congratulations to everyone who has had their babies over the last few days

Princessmel I read your other thread. Sounds like you'll be on your way soon. I started losing blobs of mucous plug on the Thursday then had alot of discharge until the Tuesday night when I went into labour. I read that about 80% of people go into labour within a week of losing their plug (Amelie is my third child too). Sounds like everything is heading in the right direction good luck.

idreamofbeanie try not to worry about the induction, I'm sure it will work for you. My ds wasn't engaged the day before induction and they couldn't do a sweep, but it only took one dose of the prostin gel and he was out 4 hrs later. I had a great birth, didn't find it any more painful than my natural onset labours. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you on Monday.

Also wanted to mention to all those struggling with the breastfeeding, Amelie is the third child I have breastfed AND I'm a breastfeeding counsellor, and I've only just got her latching on well (she's over a week old now), she's been really lazy with opening her mouth wide enough. It sounds like you are all doing a really good job, and you've been getting some really good advice from the others on here

twinklegreen · 09/10/2009 16:03

kkkaty Sounds like everythings going ok for you with the BF, if you would like me to arrange some peer support for you just let me know, you can email me at [email protected].

vampiredogstar · 09/10/2009 19:05

Love all the good news on this thread. Brilliant names you're all choosing too.

fluffycats - I was due on the 4th too hoping to jig things along this w/end.

KKKaty - congrats on baby Hamish's arrival

Sammysam - congrats--- your actual birth sounds like how my intended birthplan ought to go.

Smallone - well done and congratulations. Hope you and baby George are well and recovering.

Have a chicken vindaloo ready to eat in the fridge (eww) and have just literally stripped a layer off my tongue (no really) by eating a whole pineapple .

peachespaige · 09/10/2009 19:25

Hi all.

Thankyou for your birthday messages. We had a lovely day, National Gallery and on to China Town for a Chinese! Dps birthday today and went shopping. I am shattered!!!

Congratulation ht, smallone and sammy.

Lovely names.

HT and Smallone I hope you are both feeling better. Sammy you had the same as me with ds1 he kept popping back up and I needed a Ventouse. Well done you, its hard work!

Welcome to the newbies.

fidelma · 09/10/2009 19:34

I,ve had some time to catch up today. Lovely birth stories congratulations to all new mums.

Ruby love the name

kkkkaty love the Hammish name are you scottish?

Here is my birth story

One week before my due date I was desparate to get this baby out.I booked into the spa and had a heavenly float in the hot pools and a very strong massage, telling the poor girl to encourage my labour.I then felt quite poorly a bit like flu.I was having contractions but I had been for a few weeks and they always stopped. They went on and off all day.I went to bed at 9pm but the contractions were comming quite fast there was no way I could sleep.

We called my mum and headed to the hospital for 11.30pm.I was 4-5 cm and I laboured away with my Lloyds tenns machine and gas and air.Laughing uncontrolably with the gas and air. Also dancing around the labour room !!!!

At 3am I was 6cm so they broke my waters. The contractions were intense and extreme for 2 hours I sucked on the gas and air and left the tenns machine on full blast. They examined me at 5 am and I was 10cm so time to push.I tried on all four but it did not work.So I ended up on my back with my legs pushed up to my chest and my DH holding my head and upper boby forward.(I was totally crunched up into a little ball shape by my second midwife and my husband)I was still sucking in the G and A but DH realised that it was holding me back from pushing to full effect so he encouraged me to give it up with blood sweat and no tears but a small tear I pushed out my back to back baby at 5.19am.The pain was extreme and intense but over in a few mins. I was craddling my warm newborn to my chest.Horrific and wonderful at the same time.A truly special and majical experience that I will never have again.

peachespaige · 09/10/2009 19:35

Congratulations kkkaty Well done you!

Meant to add that we took ds1 to a Cranial Osteopath when he was a few weeks old as he was delivered using a ventouse and his jaw was disaligned, which is why my nipples were ripped to shreds trying to bf him!

Helped him a lot, also took ds2 as he threw up constantly, it helped him too.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 09/10/2009 19:41

vampiredogstar - dh has just asked what we're doing for dinner, and think its going to be a delivery from the local curry house - just read your post out to him, and his helpful suggestion is "tell her she was supposed to peel the pineapple first"

Congrats everyone, finding it hard to keep up, welcome to fluffycats too.

Now at the end of day three overdue, I hope something happens soon - just to stop everyone asking, if nothing else!

Sending positive labour vibes to everyone tonight!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 09/10/2009 19:43

x-posted with loads there! Congratulations KKKaty!

Treats · 09/10/2009 19:45

Hi everyone

Much better day yesterday. She was still very difficult to settle last night but there was far less crying so we felt a lot more in control. I'm continuing to chase my midwife but still no sign - either yesterday or today - so I went to my mums as planned yesterday. It was so nice to spend the afternoon with her - she's so pleased and proud about the baby. I left her to show Isabel off to all her friends and neighbours, while I went to the pub with my dad!

I was getting a bit desparate about the lack of professional input so I rang up the health centre that my health visitor is based at and asked if they were ready to do their first visit yet. Thanks to the postal strike () they haven't received my papers yet, but they very kindly agreed to send someone out anyway. A really lovely lady came to talk to me about the problems we've been having. She diagnosed colic and recommended Infacol which we've been using before each feed. She weighed the baby and checked that I'm breastfeeding properly (we have great latch apparently!) and answered all our other questions. I've now got details of the baby clinic and she's coming again next week. it's such a weight off to have been able to speak to someone and know where to turn in future.

I've also been suffering from a bit of pain downstairs from where the small cut they made in delivery hasn't healed. I went to the GP today and they were able to schedule me for a bit of minor surgery this morning to put some stitches in to help it heal. The pain should clear up a lot quicker now than it would have done, which I'm happy about because it was adding to my general feelings of woe.

So overall, it's a much happier picture Chez Treats - I'm feeling much more in control. And we took Isabel to get her registered today - she's now 'official'!

thanks for all your recommendations about cranial osteopathy. We'd actually started looking into that when we first suspected colic. The Institute for Paediatric Osteopathy (or something) is actually based within walking distance of our house, so I may take her along for a consultation next week. It's good to hear so many endorsements of it.

Sorry for epic post but you've all been so supportive, I wanted you to know how we're getting on. If anyone else is struggling with the early days, I would definitely recommend making sure that you're getting all the professional support that you're entitled to and don't neglect your own health.

Congrats on all the recent births. smallone - about the emc. Hope you're feeling stronger soon.

hb - about the Bugaboo. We're the same in Battersea. I feel quite the rebel with my iCandy Cherry amongst all the Bugaboos and P&Ts........

saraheb · 09/10/2009 20:49

good to hear from you treats - really pleased that you have had some support and that you had a good time with your mum.

Hope all goes well

KKKKaty · 09/10/2009 21:01

Fidelma - I'm not Scottish but DH is. We don't live in Scotland and he has a very unScottish surname so it seemed good to celebrate Hamish's half-Scottishness with a first name!

Twinklegreen - Thanks so much for your offer of help. I have e-mailed you. It makes me feel much better that you've said it's taken a week for you to get back up to speed with the BFing, even with all your experience!

Good luck to everyone still to go!

Sugarkane · 09/10/2009 21:25

Congrats Sugarkane. Another lovely name. I am very sorry to hear about your blood transfusion though, and glad to hear that Aiden is well.

Treats I am very pleased to hear things are on the up for you. Good call on the pub trip with your Dad. As a first time mum also I am nervous about feeling alone and unsupported after the birth (with the exception of DH of course).

I've been feeling really crampy and backachey for the last few days so I hope things are happening. Am finally getting around to wrting my birth plan, although I'm sure I won't follow any of it and will go straight for the epi as soon as it starts to hurt!

It is funny at our NCT meet ups, there are Bugaboos everywhere. I live in Hackney (hence the login) but we are lumped in with the Islington catchment area, which I think is the spiritual home of the Bugaboo. Actually I don't mean to be such a piss-taker, all of the mums I have met so far are very nice and normal.

Although I must confess - we have been given a buggy by my SIL, but the hood is breaking away from the frame a bit and the fabric is really fading from where it's been stored in a porch. I got all insecure, picturing it looking all knackered and scruffy against all the smart new Bees, so I have ordered a Maclaren XT. DH doesn't know yet, he'll go mad when he finds out . We have been given everything, which is wonderful, but I just wanted one thing that was new. I'm so shallow.

peachespaige · 10/10/2009 08:49

Hi all. X-posted with you Fidelma, my last too very sad.

Congratulations sugarkane, sorry to hear you've had rough time of it.

treats we took both boys to Farringdon for their Osteopathy as its the training centre and the students are just finishing their degrees so totally competant and their tutors work with them so all you leave is a donation of what ever you can. its where Trinny from Trinny and Susannah took her daughter as she was born with club feet. Thats how I disovered it. They also do pre and post natal Osteopathy too, bonus!!

theboob · 10/10/2009 10:21

congratulations on even more births, fantastic stories and beautiful names,
hope those with birthdays had a brilliant day, my ds1 is 9 tomorrow so i'm rushing around with lots of children at a cinema party today
Madison is having a growth spurt at the moment and feeding all the time, she is 4 weeks old on monday......where has the time gone
good luck to those waiting to pop and sorry message is not more personal but i'm lucky to get on here at all some days

Ohmani · 10/10/2009 13:09

Hello All,

Just been catching up on the posts.

Great to see that the number of arrivals has almost caught up with the number waiting.

We are doing well, Patrick is a great feeder but also a very sleepy baby and a bit jaundiced so I have to wake him up for feeds - never had to do that before with my dcs!

In the many hours that I've been awake during the night feeding him, I've been thinking about the things I can enjoy again now that he's here (Stops me dwelling on the sleep deprivation!!).. they are:

  • turning over in bed in one movement
  • drinking tea - went off it during pregnancy
  • going for a wee and not having to go back 2 minutes later to go again
  • being able to breathe properly again.

He's my last and I really thought I'd miss my bump but I'm not.

Congratulations to all the new arrivals and good luck to those due soon.

saraheb · 10/10/2009 13:33

congratulations sugarkane - a quick birth! and lovely name - hope you are ok and you are resting

MeHimCatBlob · 10/10/2009 15:31

Congrats to all the new mums since i last checked (about 2 weeks ago) - it all seems tobe happening so fast and i still have such a long time - another 4 days of work which will bring me to 39 weeks and then a week off (hopefuly) before i am due.

not too sure what to expect but would kind of like to get there soon as being pg is starting to get me down - really sympathise with anyone who is over 40 weeks - not sure how i will cope with that!!

finger's crossed for a good week and good news from those who are due

CalypsoFlame · 10/10/2009 15:52

So the baby blues are back with an evil vengence, have spent the large part of this last week feeling horribly anxious and depressed, crying a lot and have completely lost my appetite No real reason for it all, Annalise is a lovely baby, even though she sounds like a wheezy old dog when she sleeps thereby depriving me of any sleep, but she's back over her birth weight and feeding well, but yet I end up in uncontrollable floods of tears, wishing I could just run away and hide. Hope hormones balance back again, and this doesn't turn into post-natal depression...

Anyway,

happytangerine glad to hear that the hypnobirthing worked for you, at least up to point. Try as I might I really couldn't breathe through the contractions (possibly as there was no build up just nearly full intensity from the start (and I wasn't induced either!)) so bravo you. I hope that next time we'll be both be able to breathe our babies out!

Happy belated birthday wishes HC and peaches! hope you both had fun!

Happy 'Birth' days to wibblydibs, smallone, KKKKaty, Sammysam, Sugarkane,

smallone so sorry to hear that birth was really hard for you, lots of hugs and kisses, many of us empathise enormously with the intensity of the experience. Let us know when you have the courage to post X

sammysam glad you had yours in the birthing pool, I was sooo keen on a home water birth, but when it came down to it, I was in the pool for about an hour but was no-where near as effective at pain relief as the birth ball (since midwives were only letting me have paracetamol!) good to hear another successful homebirth on the thread

good luck with the induction, idreamofbeanie doesn't have to end in a c-sec, so hope it goes smoothly for you
x

treats glad to hear little DD has bad some treatment and is settling better. How exactly did you get Lambeth to register her so fast, we have another week until our appointment! Or are you in Wandsworth? Anyway, great that things are looking better for you.

hello to various newbies and lurkers

My crampy pains haven't really come to anything, they've tailed right off now so it looks like I still have a while yet, I have 2 friends who were due around the same time as me and they both had their lo's last week lol, I just can't wait!!!
Should be moving back in to our home by Wendesday, so that's a bonus xx

devilsadvocaat · 10/10/2009 16:41

aw calypso is it possible to leave annalise with your oh for one night and kip somewhere else (sofa?) and he can come and get you when it's time for feeds? sleep deprivation is the worst for feeling weepy. also go out for a short walk every day. amazing how different ffresh air makes you feel.

fwiw, i felt very weepy, like you, with ds1 and i didn't get pnd. just took a few weeks for things to settle down.
