Treats-have you tried putting your worn top or nightie over the mattress and warming it up with a hot water bottle before laying her on it? She can then smell you and your milk as she settles. It has certainly helped Matthew settle a tad better and he doesn't cry so much as soon as I lay him in his crib. I hope you have gone to your mum's as the MW will phone in advance. Didn't yours tell you when she was coming next when they made the initial visit?

Big wave!

Hi all, haven't got time to do a proper post.

Been to midwife today and she's sending me in to delivery suite so they can check if my waters have started to go or not. I told her about how I feel wet all the time, blah blah and how I have to change my knickers a few times a day (3rd pair today so far)
She said it's most probably urine (how lovely!) but she needs to rule out rupture of membranes.

I really thought something was happening yesterday afternoon/eve, loads of crampy/pully feelings and then strong bh for a few hours, but nothing in the end! Oh and I noticed a teeny bit more sneeze like show this morning, but so teeny you wouldn't notice unless you were obsessivly checking the tissue!!

Feel so achey today I really hope while they are examining me, they tell me I am so many cm dialated!!! I have been walking very, very slow and gingerly.

Hope you are all ok and that all the babies are happy and feeding well xxxxx
Oh and Happy birthday!!!

princessmel · 08/10/2009 16:08

Oh and one more thing, I agree that cranial osteopathy is FAB. I took ds and dd about feeding issues and feel they did some good stuff. They also completely cured Lily's raynauds in her feet, which used to be blue all the time.

Def worth a try imo

FlameWithTooManyHormones · 08/10/2009 17:39

I have been wet for a few days now was just putting it down to discharge because it didn't seem enough for waters trickling iyswim.

evening ladies (+ little ones!) Had midwife appointment today - blood pressure lower again (hurray!) and told that if it stays like this I'll be OK for the midwife unit. Had a brief discussion about birth plan - am thinking that a water birth would be good - anyone had any experience of one?

Had a bit of a heart to heart with DP last night - have been feeling as if he's not as interested in this baby as he was with DD1 - not been to any midwife appointments/not bought anything for baby/working long hours/not asked how I am feeling etc. He arrived home early tonight with some flowers and a bunny for baby - feeling relieved that he's listened!

tc allxx

wibblydibs · 08/10/2009 19:12

Treats I feel your pain, DD1 was just the same - cranial osteopathy was a godsend (even if it was a tad expensive).

Right, think I've got time for a quick birth story...

Got to hospital at 9am to be induced - had first pessary at 11am and felt nothing all afternoon. Second pessary at about 7pm - was in agony straight away, but not labour. They gave me meptid with an anti sickness jab which took the edge off - then they gave me a sleeping pill which I was a bit about but it gave me a few hours kip. Contractions kicked in at about 5am and at 7.30am was put in a wheelchair to go down to delivery and I felt the pop and gush of my waters going - some poor sole will have had a lot of cleaning up to do in my wake!

Had to wait an hour and a half for an epidural - which I spent using g&a for the contractions and throwing up between them - nice. Anyway, once epidural was in all was well in my world - had to have the hormone drip to give the contractions a bit more umph near the end. Not sure how long I pushed but he crowned with his blooming hand next to his head - then the contraction stopped and it took ages for the next one - with his 9lb baby head and hand just stuck there! Even with an epidural I have never felt anything like it! Gave it everything I had with the next contraction and he just shot out bless him!

Then there was the whole "oh my goodness, it's a boy" drama (we have 2 DD's so just expected a 3rd). Then they took his temp and as it was raised, and also his breathing was too fast, they whipped him off to neo natal (with DH) to start antibiotics. So I was left on my own in the delivery room, not cool .

So we had to stay in for 5 days while he was on antibiotics and 2 hourly then 4 hourly observations. His temp etc was fine and he got a clean bill of health eventually, but the whole thing was very stressful. He was weighed on day 6 and was already over his birth weight, so he's just fine.

Fidelma hope you guys are recovering from the swine flu - how rubbish for you.

Congratulations on all the births - the thread moves too fast for me to keep up at the moment! Hope the birthday girls are having a lovely day

smallone · 08/10/2009 19:42

Hi everyone, just a quickie, back from hosp today, George Robert was born 17:47 5/10/09 8lb 6oz by EMCS, neither of us coped very well and he had to have some rescuss at birth, but he's fine now. I'm taking a bit longer to recover but am ok. Very traumatised by the labour so will prob wait til everyone has popped before I share it here.

OP posts:
KKKKaty · 08/10/2009 20:08

Hello ladies

Well, just back from hospital this morning. Hamish William was born on Tuesday at 5 am, 6lb 14 oz, and he?s a real corker!

I was convinced I was going to be overdue, so was on the raspberry leaf and other such things with a vengeance and it worked! Waters went, as I said before, at 4 am on Monday, contractions kicked in very gently about lunchtime. I managed fine on my TENS machine until around 9 pm that evening at which point I called the hospital and they said to come in. However, when I arrived I was told that I wasn?t in established labour and therefore they couldn?t give me any gas and air! Not happy?

Anyway, things very, very quickly progressed at this point and within another hour I was six cm and making some very loud noises, so they whisked me into a delivery room and finally let me have some gas and air, which made a real difference. I was fully dilated by 1 or 2 in the morning. I kept having the urge to push at this point, which I went with, but no result. They then moved me into managed pushing (pushing during each contraction even if I didn?t have the real urge) but still no result after an hour and a half. His head kept almost crowning, but would just go back in at the end of each contraction ? he was basically stuck in the U-bend, no matter what position we tried. I?d run out of steam at this point, and the contractions were becoming more spaced out, so the obstetrician was called and we decided to go for a ventouse. So that was all set up, and after a ten minute pause while we all sat and looked at each other and chatted, waiting for the next contraction, it finally came and Hamish was sucked out into the world without too much pulling, at 5am.

I got a 2nd degree tear, but at least with the ventouse I?d been numbed before that happened, so all?s well really!

Anyway, long story, but I was really pleased with the birth. Proud of myself that I did it all on TENS and gas and air. Shame about the ventouse in the end, but I think he?s inherited his father?s large skull, so not my fault really!

He?s feeding well some of the time, and not at others, but he?s only 2 and half days old, so we?ll give him some time to practice ? and for me to get the hang of it too!

DH has been fab ? house was immaculate when we arrived home, all washing done, sheets changed, pram constructed so that?s made a real difference as I?m a little neurotic!

Congratulations to everyone else who has produced, and good luck to everyone still waiting!

devilsadvocaat · 08/10/2009 20:16

well done wibbly, it must have been tough having lo taken straight off. hope you can make up for it now you're home

smallone, are you ok? scary stuff with your emcs and george in resus at birth. i've heard that (when you're ready) it can really help to go through your labour notes with a mw. i hope that you can rest up and begin to enjoy your lovely little boy x

HumphreysCorner · 08/10/2009 21:19

Mahoosive congratulations to wibbly, KKKKaty and smallone on the births of your babies.

smallone-agree that it will help you if you discuss your birth with the MW.

Thanks for your B'Day wishes, have had a nice meal at mum and dad's tonight.

Laters!

saraheb · 08/10/2009 21:48

congratulations wibbly kkkkaty and smallone on your new arrivals.

I've been to midwife today and she has made an appointment for next week for optional sweep if want it. Can't decide if I do at the moment - will just wait and see what happens in the meantine. Head is now engaged though - wasn't before, so you never know it might not be much longer.

Found out today that the hosp I am going to no longer loans TENS machines in the labour ward like they used to. So went out and bought on - from Lloyds - didn't want to risk not having one as it is what I wanted for my pain relief and I thought it was too short notice to hire one no as it is my due day. I'm hoping it will be ok and as good as the one I used for DD. Has anyone else used the LLoyds labour tens machine?

hackneybird · 08/10/2009 22:13

Happy Birthday HC! and Peaches!.

Big congrats to wibbly, kkkkaty and smallone on your little ones.

Treats, a friend of mine also swears by cranial osteopathy for little ones, I plan on going once I have had mine.

Good luck princessmel and flame.

I have a week to go, but have been feeling very crampy the last couple of days, so I hope this means things are moving in the right direction as the baby's head hadn't engaged when I had my last appt.

DH is out tonight and I can't get hold of him - nice. He was supposed to be cooking my dinner as I study Spanish at night class on Thursdays. I can't believe he isn;lt answering his phone - what if I was in labour? . I think he's being really irresponsible. He obviously doesn't realise that babies really can come at any time!

princessmel · 08/10/2009 22:24

Congrats to Wibbly Kkkaty and Smallone!!!!!!!!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 09/10/2009 09:50

Great to read all your birth stories. Well done mums.

saraheb - I've hired a boots tens machine. Was invaluable last time!

saraheb · 09/10/2009 10:15

thanks halfmumhalfbiscuit for your reply - we don't have a Boots near us that hires machines and I was desperate as could go into labour anytime. All the online hirers could only guarantee a monday delivery and i didn't want to risk not having one this weekend if I need one. Also I am not driving far from home at the moment and, living in a rural area, that really limits my access to the larger shops.

I was wondering if there really was much of a difference between the different makes of TENS machines.

I was a little upset that none of the other midwives had mentioned that our local hosp doesn't loan them to you anymore and so the decision to buy had to be made there and then. I feel that I have more or less been left to myself this pregnancy by the midwives as I already have a dd (but it was 10 years ago and I have forgotten soooo much). I wasn't even offered antenatal lessions or a look round the hospital which might have been useful. I think part of the problem is that I have been under the consultant and the midwives have had little input into my care to be fair - but everytime I asked the consultant any of these questions they just said the midwives sort out all that. Ah well, perhaps I should have been more proactive myself in getting the information. By the time I asked again recently, I had missed any tour evenings and the next one will be in two weeks and I will already have had mine by then.

Sorry for the rant - seem to be doing it a lot recently, perhaps the stress of builders and being due really is getting to me now. Daren't admit that at home though, as all this building work was my idea in the first place and I desperately wanted it doing before I had the baby not after (DH wanted to do it next summer when lo would be crawling!!!).

Actually I am feeling a little 'odd' today so am wondering if this is an early sign. I have a high pain threshhold and don't feel minor pains at all. I discovered a burn on my arm yesterday which must have come from the oven, but I really don't recall it happening! Walking is particularly difficult and I just feel like doing nothing - and there is so much to do. Although I dusted yesterday it needs doing again and have stopped halfway through cleaning the kitchen after DH cooked last night to save me. Am now wishing he hadn't bothered as the hob, tiles and worktops were covered in splashes of sauce. The kitchen is the one room I have been keeping spotless and I nearly cried when I saw it this morning.

Sorry - another rant over with

kowaikiwi · 09/10/2009 10:41

Congrats wibbly, kkkkaty and smallone I'm so jealous! I hope you're all feeling OK. smallone I hope you can talk to someone about how you're feeling, agree it will help (once you're ready).

Just been to the midwife as well, a new one since mine left a couple of weeks ago (great timing). But she's lovely and said once I've checked with the hospital call her back to book a S&S for 41 weeks. She said she can come to my home to do it - is that normal? Good news though as I'm struggling to get out and about these days.
saraheb I know what you mean about midwives and hospitals etc - I'm sorted now and I haven't been seeing a consultant but in the beginning I felt no one was bothering with me. Yes we should ask for information, but how do you know to ask for what you don't know? It felt like I was on the border between catchment areas and neither the hospital or my previous Drs surgery were taking responsibility for me! Glad I moved surgeries and met a nice midwife because every appointment I had at the hospital (scans, bloods etc) early on upset me - they gave me wrong times, bruised my arm, made me feel it was my fault that the baby wasn't in the right position to be scanned properly etc. So my local midwife offered to do all my appointments if the hospital agreed, which made me feel much better. Do they not understand we don't really know what's going on and need professional advice sometimes?
My rant over too, but wouldn't it be good if you could fill in a 'customer service survey' after your experience so others don't get the same treatment.
Luckily I've heard nothing but good things about the midwives up on the delivery suite.

I'm hoping once I book my S&S the baby will just come, no signs of anything yet but fingers crossed. And for everyone else waiting.

sammysam · 09/10/2009 10:51

Hi All!

Sorry this has taken so long-haven't read the thread-but will try and catch up very soon! I blame it on the fact that I can't use the lap top and i'm having to use the pc plugged into the tv-so it is rarely free to use

Well it finally happened! Baby girl (still no name!) born on the 6th at 5.45am safely at home in the birth pool after a 3hr labour!!!! She weighed a lb less than dd1 at 7lbs14- No stitches!

Am over the moon! Think the sweep and some lovin set it off

Will add my birth story asap!

Hope everyone else is well and congratulations to all who have new arrivals as well

ruby-beautiful name.

saraheb-sounds to me that your time is close as feeling agitated and weepy is always a sign for me. You only seem to get looked after with your first baby, with subsequent ones you are left to yourself sadly.

Treats-how are things today? Please come and talk if you can.

Hope all OK.

Hello

Newbie here, have been sitting on the sidelines reading every ones stories for a little while and now I have the time I make sure I catch up each day to see what has happened with everyone. Have added myself to the list below, was due on 4th Oct but no signs of anything let, so far have had a very comfortable pregnancy and feel very lucky after reading of some of the things people have had to go through.

Think baby is happy inside and won't be making an appearance for a little while. Have an appointment at the hospital this Sunday where I can choose to have a Sweep (this sound like a fun experience, anyone got any advice?) then an induction booked for 16th if baby doesn't come.

Love reading all your labour stories, can't believe I will be going through it all myself in the not so distant future. First baby for me and not sure how well I'll cope, but it sounds as though it doesn't matter how many labours you have been through each one is a whole new experience!

Congrats to everyone and their shiny new bambinos :0)

Hi all,

sorry I've no time to read through the thread but DP is working from home today and it is his last day before starting paternity so he is hogging the internet router.

Went to the hospital this morning for an appointment with the consultant. He confirmed the baby is still high but he did a s+s anyway just in case it worked. He kept saying it would hurt but actually it was fine but he said my cervix was still 'in the clouds' and showing no signs of softening. He has booked me in for an induction on Monday - to be fair he didn't looked convinced the induction would work and he said I should be prepared for it to take a few days until I went into labour. To be honest I think they think it will end with a c-section so I don't know why they don't just book me in for a section now but they won't discuss it any further until Monday. I'm not that happy about being induced but I'm really ready to get this baby out so I'm sort of resigned to going with it and just hoping it's not too bad.

Sorry for me me me post - I'll try to get back on and catch up later.
