Here we go -

Hpoefully in this one we'll all get to feel those kicks and turns if we haven't already, some of us will go for our 20 week scans, and we might get to look preg instead of looking like we've eaten too many cream cakes!

No more scares in this one though please!

Hi all! Ive only just been on mnet the last couple of days.Im due on 13th Nov and im really really nervous.I'd be delighted to get any advice on pregnancy as this is my first.

ChaCha · 17/06/2005 15:48

Welcome firstbabyandnervous!
This is my first baby, Enthusia's, Jenjam's and SharonTW1's..(I might have missed someone out so check out the November stats list - you'll find it under ante-natal) Already mummies will be able to give some good advice and IMHO it's a great place to ask/post anything pregnancy related and not.

Beks - I think i'll just collapse. I have this image of DH flat out on the floor and me totally out of it! We are both on the squeamish side to say the least. The babies just sort of came sliding out towards the end..I was shocked!! Can the mummies here tell me how they gave birth to their other babies?
Someone sent a really cool link about birthing plans once, i'm sure i saved it, perhaps it was Busy. I too get to the back of the book these days and just pretend i didnt see.
Anyway, maybe a little early to be stressing yet, but funny, kind of didn't realise you actually had to give birth, LOL!

BEKsmum · 17/06/2005 15:55

Hi Hamster yep holiday was lovely and much needed am looking and feeling a lot better now. We are hoping to get another week away somewhere in the UK before bump puts in an appearance then I'm hoping all being well to go back out to Spain for New Year to be waited on hand and foot again! What about you?

Firstbaby welcome aboard we're due on the same day and your more than welcome to join us, we're a friendly lot and will be able to give you loads of advice as you go along. Chacha & Enthusia are first timers too so they are going through the same things as you so if you're not sure about anything just ask! We've got a members list on the antenatal board as well so feel free to add your details on there and you'll find out a bit about the rest of us there too.

Got to go as feeling rather sick for the first time in a couple of weeks - not impressed, speak to you all later.

LilJ · 17/06/2005 16:03

My first baby too - I'm very much in the 'ignorance is bliss' mode, But just started going to pregnancy yoga classes where they talk about breathing techniques etc and about to sign up for NCT or our local clinic's birthing classes, so I think despite the fact that I've always said I'll take the unnatural drugs route, I maybe convinced into trying natural birth first.

Been exhausted all week and sleeping badly - finding it hard to get comfortable, not helped by new neighbours down the road - it seems to be a house full of teenage boys in hoods playing with scooters and pitbulls in the wee hours of the morning. Plus I seem to be huge compared to other 17 weekers! So it can only get worse.

HI all,
Back from Boggle Hole - great time, not very restful with 2 toddlers, but a nice change of environment. Feeling very tired and groggy these days, but at least sickness down to once a day now! Anyone else still being sick? Have only read through last few posts, so will catch up over next few days.
Welcome firstbaby! I'm due 13/11 too - I think that makes 3 of us inc.Beksmum (but i might be wrong). Have to rely on work for computor access, so miss alot!
Sounds like a great holiday Beksmum! LOL re: mouth analogy! Feel a coldsore coming on now! I wish it opened that easily though ! (sorry, TMI!)It was only my episiotomy scar that saved me last time (sorry first timers!!)Feeling stronger movement now, but still not very regular, and very low down in pelvis. 19 week scan on Tuesday 21st - bit nervous. Talk again when back at work on Monday! Must get computer at home!! What will I do when on maternity leave!

Enthusia · 17/06/2005 16:12

Hiya all,

Beks good to have you back, it has been quite quiet here without you. Glad you had a good holiday.

Firstbaby - welcome, scary isn't it. As the others have said, this is also my first baby and I am due on the 11th, so not far away from you. How are you feeling?

My big news is that we are moving house and areas. DH has decided to take a management position he was offered, it is a great role, but is in Essex. We were sort of up that way before we went to Thailand, but it feels as if there are hundreds more things to think about this move due to bubs. If all goes according to plan we will move by bubs birth. Our 5 other moves have taken aroun 4 months so we are hopeful. Does anyone here live in or around Colchester, Witham, Chelmsford etc? Could do with some advice about hospitals and areas to live with good resources etc for kids. Will also create another thread on that subject.

At the mo I am feling very hormonal, by DH and I have been having a few problems due to his work etc, so I am feeling rather taken for granted and unimportant. Other than that I just feel very tired after my week.

Hamster, great news about the scan, I can't wait, only 3 weeks now.

Rodeo - great piccies, you are not what I imagined either, good photo though. Maybe we should all do it, I bet none of us look like others imagined. I mean I bet I don't come across the 6ft blonde, buxom, trim women I am. He He He

BEKsmum · 17/06/2005 16:21

Sorry Chacha was typing at the same time as you but as to how I had Ben well I was induced 3 weeks early as they thought I was getting pre-eclampsia, personally I think they confused swelling with normal fat!

Induction is not something to worry about by the way it's a painless procedure but can make labour a bit more painful because your body is not actually ready to go into labour.

I had to have two lots of gel but once it took effect the contractions came on pretty quickly but it seemed to take ages for me to dilate - this I would say is the most irritating part as you feel in a lot of pain and they come round and tell you you're only a couple of centimeters dilated!

I tried gas & air but didn't like it as it made me want to be sick and I hate that more than I hate pain so I relied on my tens machine which was absolutely brilliant and then later on when I asked for Pethadine but to be honest I had it too late for it to be of any use.

You will know when it's time to push unless you have an epidural and that is probably the easiest part in my opinion because you know you are getting somewhere but as my midwife said to me if I had enough puff to shout I wasn't pushing hard or effectively enough so just concentrate on that.

I won't say it doesn't hurt but the moment baby appears the pain stops instantly and you have to give a few extra pushes to get the placenta out but they help you with this.

All in all from 2nd gel placing to holding Ben in my arms took 18 hours!!! 15 Hours to dilate and 3 hours to push him out!!! He was only little by the way 6lb 7oz

The last thing I would say is have someone with you who you trust, who can take it if you shout at them and who can keep you calm. I had a night shirt on that said I love you on it and told my dh to keep reading it because at the time loving him wasn't high on my priority list and I suggested he read the tee-shirt whenever I was giving him the most abuse!

I also had my mum with me as my dh is great but to be honest it was my mum I relied on most 'cos she knew what I was going through and she could put me in my place when I was getting too het up.

Hope that helps and look at it this way it can't be that bad as the rest of us are going back for another go! Right I really am going now.

ChaCha · 17/06/2005 16:25

Wow, it's great to see some life on here!!
I'm still drinking a can of coke a day anyone else being unhealthy?
I also go through crisps like there is no tomorrow - i read in PG magazine that they are just quick fixes and do not solve underlying problem - said that menu plans are a good idea. I used to do these when working so as not to faff with 'oh what the heck will i cook' once through the front door but really can't be bothered with that these days. What do you all eat when you get a snack attack?
As well as my grapefruits (there have been none in the shop recently) am partial to lots of salad!!!
(and chips on gravy with bread and butter)

LilJ · 17/06/2005 16:30

Snacks when I'm being good and healthy are nuts, raspberries and rice cakes. When I'm being bad it's Mars Bars every time. Plus I have my one Starbucks grande coffee every day - 'cause I think you've got to have one tiny vice at least - and I need the calcium I keep telling myself.

twinkle1 · 17/06/2005 16:35

hi glad im not the only unhealthy one i drink far too much pepsi max but im addicted i also like beefy monster munch ahh well

ChaCha · 17/06/2005 16:43

Twinkle - LOL

firstbabyandnervous · 17/06/2005 16:55

Thanks for the warm welcome. Its great to know theres people to talk to that understand what im going through.Chacha I also drink a lot of coke and I definitely eat a lot of junk food but im doing my best to keep it to a minimum

bamik · 17/06/2005 17:37

Hi Firstbabyandnervous,

It's my first as well (due on 19th Nov) and I am scared of pain & needles! But I am trying to think positive about it and have been watching lots of those pregnancy programmes on sky and have been reading lots of books. I think it's important that we be real about it and try and find out as much as we can so that nothing will come as a surprise. The last thing you want to do is freak out right in the middle of labour!

That's as much advice as I can give, but I am so sure that the ladies here (who have more experience will be able to give you loads of tips!).

Take Care,

Bami x

busyalexsmummy · 17/06/2005 20:55

chacha-in response to the birth Q-I ended up going in to be induced as ds was 10 days late(16 days by LMP) and was not showing any signs of coming out, that week on the monday I had a sweep, I went in on the friday afternoon, had anougher sweep, started contracting all night friday, didnt sleep a wink, got up saturday, laboured in the bath for a while, went to delivery suite at lunchtime, 1.30pm they did ARM(broke waters) contractions came thick and fast, used tens and birthing ball, given internal exam later in the evening, had not made progress, stuck at 4cm, they put me on a drip, contractions were unbearable, offered a epidural, took the offer, received it 1hr+1/2 later!! epidural was bliss for about an hr, then pain returned(oviously had not been sited properly but aneasistist(sp?) was too busy to resite it) still 4cm, they warning about the possibility of c/s, laboured on with g+a and tens till early hrs of sunday morning, pushed for 1hr 45 mins, they decided i was knackered(no, never!??) and were going to do a ventuse, but after they made the cut, he was out in two pushes- at 2.43am sunday. dont remember the placenta coming out though!

Busyalexsmummy · 18/06/2005 06:00

Morning everyone!!! up bright and breezy today, off to a nct table top sale at 9am and saw dp off to work at 5am, too hot and too awake to go back to sleep!

ChaCha · 18/06/2005 09:45

Have a lovely day everyone and enjoy the sunshine off out for the day xx

rodeo1 · 18/06/2005 12:13

Hello!

Only been away for a day and theres loads to read!

Welcome firstbaby! Hurray another member!

Went to Conkers (a woodland discovery centre thingy) with dp and dc yesterday as dd had an inset day off school. I got burnt on my shoulders! How embarrassing! Then went to a reflexology session which was relaxing (they found the squishy lump on my foot which is the baby apparently!) but had to go to work straight after which was rather hellish! So hot! There again later - poo.

Thanks for updating scan list Busy! And yes I can - by some miracle - put pictures on!! Busy, if your pictures are too big open them in 'paint' and go into 'Image' then into 'stretch/skew' and reduce the 100% to 10 or 20 and your image should be small enough to send! Hope it works!

Hamster, KWYM about boys names me and dp can't find a name we both like. Oh well, plenty of time to go!

Fathers Day tomorrow girls! Are any of you with first babies getting your dp/dh's anything?

20+3 x x x

Hey everyone,

I agree 100% that ignorance is bliss, even though this is baby no 2 for me, i never really laboured with dd, as soon as i got to hospital was taken for emergency c section so im pretty much in the same boat as the first timers birth wise!

Too hot for me today was very hot and bothered all day. Was exactly same when i was pregnant with dd, seems we only get the heat waves when im pregnant

Hi all,

Can't sleep-too hot.....27 degrees in our bedroom.

I look like a lobster! And I covered myself in factor 30 today. Oh well, hopefully it'll go a nice brown colour eventually.

We put a deposit on our new pushchair today-the Phil and Teds explorer. A single 3 wheeler pushchair that converts to a double(for those that don't know). Very clever pushchair, can't wait for ds2 to get here now!

Well, hope you're all having a great weekend.
Speak next week
xx

Busyalexsmummy · 18/06/2005 23:19

hamster-sounds good, I really dont like the phil&teds myself but I hope you get on with it ok

Went to the nct sale, managed to pick up 16 muslin squares for £3-bargain, was looking out for those and found them hidden under a load of clothes on someones stall!
(had 12 last time and used to go through them all each day as ds was so sick, so this time im prepared!!)
got anougher lovely wooden toy, a stacking thing, with different pegs and rings that are different colours, ds loves it!
got him a mini upright dyson!!! some brand new jelly shoes for holiday next wkend that i was going to buy for him today anyway-£1
a bump wedge for my tummy-50p, two pairs of really really nice maternity cotton trousers £3, so pretty chuffed with my bargains!
Mind you s-i-l, jammy cow (one thats due 6th dec) managed to pick up a double 3-wheeler nearly new with footmuffs/raincover for £70 and a cot for £15!!
bugger that, im not worrying about that sort of thing till at least october!
s-i-l was really jealus of the fact I hardly look pregnant and she looks huge already, although I am starting to get a neat bump at the front but it hides well under a baggy top! lol

This evening we had a family bbq, which was nice, but now I feel quite tired as been up since 4.45am!

Got df coming down from kent tommorrow and we're off out for a nice meal so will catch up tommorrow afternoon x
