Just had a card throug the post from Asda - they are having a 'baby & toddler event' from 15th -27th September, so think we'll be popping down to there to stock up on maternity pads, nappies, wipes etc. Looks like they'll also be doing the tommee tippee microwave steriliser for £10 if anyone's looking for one?

scarlotti · 14/09/2009 10:59

Laugs H&M is the best I've found for bright newborn and different patterns if you don't just want fluffy bunnies or teddies I love their vests as they open right out and then you popper them around baby, none of this over the head stuff!

Tesco also have a sale on at the moment on tommee tippee stuff, and the microwave sterliser is £10 as is the breast pump, with the electric one at £20. all half price.

mumsiebumsie · 14/09/2009 11:07

Hello all,

Been away over the weekend for a wedding which was lovely.

However...

me and DH (okay, just me) have a ritual in every hotel we stay at where we'll dive-bomb the bed to test out it's springiness and basically we I just find it funny .

Well...

I had a moment of madness and forgetting I was carrying an almost 7 month old baby... I dive-bombed the bed .

Spent the rest of the day speaking to bump apologising and promising that if she just moves for mummy once I'll never do anything so silly again. Thankfully she's forgiven me and is now kicking me like mad clearly gaining her revenge .

Really hope I haven't done any permanent damage.

Does anyone else forget sometimes that they're pregnant? I keep on trying to squeeze through gaps forgetting that I'm twice the size etc... Gosh I feel awful

beepbeep · 14/09/2009 11:11

Scarlotti - think i'll have a look in H&M also, white is pretty boring! Also had a quick look on Asda website and it's just the hospital bag stuff & nappies/wipes I need, don't think they'll be that much cheaper than elsewhere for the few bits I need (Asda is 30 miles from us so don't think it warrants the journey!).

Laugs · 14/09/2009 11:14

mumsie I forget all the time! I nearly rolled down a hill with DD recently and I keep on getting wedged into too small spaces. I also forget that I look pregnant and find I am completely shocked when people mention it. how did they know?

mumsiebumsie · 14/09/2009 11:30

Laugs Oh good - glad it's not just me! I'm also momentarily perplexed when people ask if I'm pregant. I take offense for a millisecond thinking "How Presumptous!", before remembering that it's SO blooming obvious.

My mother says I have body dysmorphia but in reverse - I think I'm slim and lithe when I'm not .

ErikaMaye · 14/09/2009 12:01

Mumsie LOL you've given me the giggles now!!! I forget I'm pregnant sometimes, especially in our kicthen, as its quite narrow, and I used to be able to just dodge round the back of people. Now I get stuck and my dad laughs at me I remind him that my belly will be gone in a few months, where as his is gonna be staying

Laugs do you have a Pumpkin Patch near you? They're a bit more expensive, but lovely quality, and they have a fab unisex range as well, in greens and yellows

Tabby, Hobnob and Laugs - CDs are going in the post in the next hour or two. Hope you can read my writing

Is anyone else having a square baby? I think I must be. Or an octagonal one!!

Koumak · 14/09/2009 12:40

It?s lunchtime. I am starving. Good day all. Few days and so much to catch up on.

easyeggs what a cutie! I had a ?normal? scan at 31 weeks and the baby was already 1.8kg that was I believe just under 4lbs! I presume now around 5lbs so another big one in making I think. I don?t want to think about going overdue with this one too. Aren?t girls supposed to be smaller?

laughs I have not seen the bottom of my laundry basket for months and now started doing the baby laundry I don?t think I will ever catch up!

Hospital bag:
Snacks to go for are cereal bars and sweets and lollipops as they keep mouth from drying out. I also take a packet of small kiddies juices (the ones you put in lunchboxes) and you can reuse the straw after for water etc.
Whoever mentioned the flip-flops? That was the first thing that went into my bag this time. That and contact lenses!
Not sure if it was mentioned already but I will be packing a spare t-shirt for dh. Nothing smart just something he can change into as he got smeared in blood a little last time as he was so keen to hold ds straight after birth.

Had really good experience with M&S bras so will be going there again.

Had babybjorn with ds and really liked it but didn?t use much to be honest as used mountain buggy a lot as I walked everywhere. He was a big baby but can see why the carrier is not the best for newborns!

I got some lovely sleeping bags from the white company. I love their stuff. And the blankets are so soft and cute too!

mumsiebumsie that just made me laugh out loud ? I am at work?- I forget almost every night when I try to get up for the 2-3am toilet trip I keep falling out of bed!

Who was offering the yoga DVD? I would love a copy if it?s still going?

29 working days left!

ursigurke · 14/09/2009 13:13

mumsiebumsie, that made me laugh too. I'm sure your baby was well protected. I keep forgetting it as well and try to squeeze to too small gaps. And just a couple of weeks ago, when I passed in front of the mirror, I was shocked/surprised by my shape.
In our NCT class they suggested to pack a bag for the dad as well, I guess it is a good idea, especially if they have to wear a suit or something at work and they might have to go directly to the hospital? Well, at least a T-Shirt as Koumak suggested sounds very reasonable to me.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/09/2009 14:03

I shall say one word.

Builders.

{angry] .

Trikken · 14/09/2009 14:04

I tried to walk between my step-dad's van and the skip in their drive yesterday forgetting how big I was. only just made it through without getting wedged. good idea about the dad bag, last time i was lucky as i went into labour before dh was working but this time i might not be as lucky. and i can pack him some food so he doesnt have to leave me, last time he had to go get some food and it seemed like ages he was away for, even though it was probably only 20 mins or so.

mumsiebumsie · 14/09/2009 14:08

Hi all, glad it made you chuckle.

Koumak I have 29 days left too! Is your last day 23rd October or am I seriously mis-counting?

Koumak · 14/09/2009 15:11

Oh no! Nope you are right but i am wrong!!! I have 34 then. I really thought it's only 6 weeks but nooooooooo it's still 7. Bugger.

Koumak · 14/09/2009 15:12

Pavlov still? What has he done now?

mumsiebumsie · 14/09/2009 15:47

No worries - could be that we're both wrong -will recount when I get time.

Oh goodness never seen so many red angry faces - Pavlov please don't tell me the builder is now buried under your patio Brookside style?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/09/2009 16:16

mumsie no, but only because he did not dare show his bloody face. He has been sacked. He does not realise this yet, as I have not told him. I have told him not to bother coming in tomorrow. And I am getting quotes for the rest of the work and the building inspector out to tell me what needs doing to meet building control now, once I have done that, I am calling him/writing to him (both) to tell him to return my keys. It does not matter if he does not, as I no longer trust him and we are getting the locks changed anyway. I now do not care how long it takes, or how much it costs, as long as it is not him. Or else it will be just like Brookie . And those angry faces - i would have done more if I had time

koumack/usi - if you have the stamina the last few paragraphs say it all. I shall not tell you the words that I have floating around my head that relate to this man.
BUT on the plus side - I bought a mei tai from ebay - fur lined for the winter! I did not really mean to, I put in an offer on ebay thinking it would not be accepted and it was accepted straight away, made me wish I had gone lower as it was accepted straight away

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 14/09/2009 16:22

Sorry I meant kyte - you were posting to usi

ErikaMaye · 14/09/2009 16:41

Pavlov what an arse, am angry on your behalf Congrats on the Mei Tai though

pav sorry to hear it's so bad. When we had problems we didn't have to give him the opportunity to rectify - I think you've given him every opportunity to sort it out so I wouldn't worry about that.
One thing - did you get your part p certificate from the electrician? Might be worth phoning him if you can to get that as you'll need it for the building regs. We had a dreadful time sorting ours out - sparky hadn't been paid by the builder and wasn't happy about then coming back to do the testing for free, although he did as he's legally obliged to do it.
You'll find the building inspector will be great now - ours came over and went through with the new chap what needed to be done, and then came back to sign it all off.
Our builder was evading the tax man, hence all our problems.
You can also tell him that if he doesn't return your keys you are going to call the police - it's an offence to keep hold of your keys in this situation.
I do feel for you - we had this after ds was born and it ran all over Christmas and right up to the end of my maternity leave.
Ds is fine though

re fire doors, you can also use normal doors but then attach door closers (unless the regs have changed again) which can keep the cost down and you can then take them off once it's been signed off as they're not very toddler finger friendly.

hobnob57 · 14/09/2009 18:20

((((((hugs))))))) to pavlov. What a time you've had! I know as a pg woman it's impossible not to obsess and stress over these things, but PLEASE let DH do the stressing and concentrate on reducing your adrenaline to give the baby a wee rest! I know that in your shoes I wouldn't trust DH to do enough stressing/action, but do try.

We just signed a contract on Friday for our extension, but decided in the end to opt for a well-known company so that we (hopefully) have some comeback should things go pear shaped. I'm not looking forward to it, especially not being able to BF in my own living room for 3 months due to massive French windows looking straight at the builders outside, but we are so excited about the prospect of a bit more space. I so hope that at the end of this you can be really chuffed with your new space. Definitely get it finished by someone else you trust if you can - it'll make all the difference

helips · 14/09/2009 18:36

Hello all,

Have been lurking but not posting as by the time I have caught up then I have to either deal with ds or go to bed, I never seem to have time to post!

Anyway, pavlov sorry to hear about your pita builder, what a nightmare! Why can't people take pride in there work and do a job properly, so frustrating for you and not what you need right now.

I got dh to get all the baby clothes down from the loft and now am frantically washing and ironing, forgot how much stuff ds had! Luckily most of the newborn stuff is white as we didn't find out sex last time either and do have some nice blue stuff too if this one's a boy. If it's a girl I'm sure my family will go nuts buying pink!

Re the slings, I have a baby bjorn and a wrap sling (can't remember the make but it's the one with the fabric and ring!) Anyway, I used the Bjorn loads but could not get on with the other one although will try again, in fact might practice with a teddy like someone else mentioned!

I'm loving reading everyones lists for hospital bags, it's really helped me to note down what I need to buy and pack so thanks guys!

Not much else happening here, ds being a pain so probably fed up with me mumsnetting, better go and play with him! Hope everyone else is well and get's a better sleep tonight!
