Hi all, hope ur having restful weekend. Bump disappeared today! Been pram shopping with sister and 6mth old nephew 2 get a practical viewpoint.quite useful.finished off with mcdonalds! Mmm!

annamama · 19/09/2009 15:29

Thanks for sympathy re goatee...

I read your thread IWCAS... I feel for you! Git. And man.

Scooby - your bump disappeared today?! Well, now that you've said it I've realised mine is actually quite small today, yesterday it was huge. Strange how it can change like that. Still haven't really felt any movement, anyone else not feeling any?

We've just been to pick up the Jane Powertwin that we bought on ebay, it's lovely. Newborn can sit/lie in the back or sit in car seat facing you, while DD sits in the front. And it doesn't feel too big to "drive"! It's making it more real now that we're going to have 2 children soon! I almost feel as excited as the first time.

Yeah hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Total non-sequitur but I've been meaning to post about this for days. Having not liked any of the books to teach toddlypearls that her Mamma is having a new baby, I found we had one on the shelf all along! It's called 'Za Za's baby brother' and is by the person who does the Maisy books (Lucy Cousins). You get all the basics- Mamma has a big tummy, goes to hospital whilst Granny looks after Za Za, baby arrives, Mamma is tired and Daddy is busy, baby cries a lot, Mamma tells Za Za to play with the baby, which he does, and finds he quite likes him. Then the baby goes to bed and Za Za gets special cuddles from Mamma. Job done!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 19/09/2009 22:38

Pixie, your poor little DD. Am so pleased though that she's getting some 'special' treatment, that must make it just a little bit better for her

P&P, I have no idea why [hormones] but I nearly burst into tears reading your last post. I think it's the idea of my tummy growing bigger, going to hospital, having another baby,. etc. For some reason your post just made it all feel so much more real! But in a nice way I think I'd better get DD that book...it's a little worrying to see how she looks after her doll - she holds it by a foot to brush its teeth, etc!

Hope everyone else is well and enjoying their weekends.

Oh, can anyone recommend any nice maternity cardigans? I have some lovely tops from last time, but it was summer then, so need a couple of jumpers/cardigans to keep warm. I have looked in a few shops but haven't seen anything I particularly like...really looking for something nice & chunky (and long - I am pretty tall). TIA

Pingpong · 20/09/2009 14:35

not much to report chez Smac but I thought I'd post to mark the thread.
I've not been sick for 9 days so fingers crossed that's it!
My bump is definitely not disappearing and I'm wearing my maternity jeans for the first time today.
I like the sound of Zza Zza's baby brother so will look out for it. DD is being very cute with her doll, brought her a sleeping bag and stack of nappies the other day and hasn't smacked her over the head with the garden trowel for a few weeks now!
MW appointment on Tuesday.

annamama · 20/09/2009 15:33

P&P - thanks for the tip about that book! It sounds pretty good and DD loves Maisy, so I will look for it on ebay / amazon.

Pixie - of course you should find out the sexes! So exciting... Great that your poor DD got special treatment, there are still kind people out there.

We've just been to the soft play centre with DD, she loved it, she's finally big enough to really enjoy it. Me & DH had fun too, we were getting into the balls, climbing and going down slides etc. Tired now...

Rindercella - let me know if you find any nice cardigans... Don't think I had any last time, just used normal ones with only the top button done up. And some stretched out old jumpers, so slummy mummy.

Hi everyone - thanks for tips on mamas and papas, just went over there and got a few things including work trousers for £9 and v nice cardigan, fitted and quite long. x

PacificDogwood · 20/09/2009 16:58

Yikes, this thread just fell off my active convos; I clearly do not post enough ...

I looked at the Mamas+Papas website but am a bit flummoxed by their sizes: 12-14 or 16-18, so what should I get if I am a 14-16?? Does anybody know whether their sizes run large or small?

Other than that, lazy weekend, I am still coughing my guts out, but feel well. If I could only sleep I'd be fine but I have the most ridiculous coughing fits in the middle of the night which require getting up, making cups of hot water and going to the bathroom lots and lots of times, gah!!!

Anyway, hope you all had a nice weekend. I am going for my 16 weeks check on Friday and am really looking forward to it already .

scooby26 · 20/09/2009 17:29

Annamama - No movement here yet. Books suggest it's still early days so not getting worried yet. Got my 16 week check on Wednesday so hopefully will get to hear the heartbeat then.

Sarah*** - got it down to two. The Linear Freeway (silverx) and Bertie ( mamas & Papas) They both are reversible and similar prices when you add car seats etc. Figure the more I look the more confused I'd get so wanted to pick and then be able to just buy it whenever its on offer. The Bertie is more modern i.e. tubular alluminium style but the material doesnt appear quite as sensible as the siverx - i.e. might fade in the sun and no so 'wipe' friendly. Common sense suggests the silverx - fab value for money, does everything I need just isn't quite as modern in style so am worried I might regret it in a few years!! You can spend hundreds and hundreds but in all honesty I'm sure it'll take backseat to a stroller in a year or so hence don't want to waste my money spending too much but still want it to be nice. Anyone had either model???

Pixie - glad ur all getting pampered - makes a difficult situation that bit better. Only you can decide if you want to know the sex - we aren't going to find out as it's first and it will be a nice suprise as it doesn't matter either way.

Rindercella - picked up a really nice chunky caridgan half price at mamas and papas - very cosy and only £24. It is quite long so should be ok. I'm not clever enough to post links sadly.

Pacific - M&P are quite generous. Im normally a 12 and their tens fit me ( trousers aren't two sizes) so smaller probably better.

Is everyone else hormonal? I feel less hormonal than before I was pregnant and it's been like this since day one. My DH must be getting an easy ride!! I keep reminding him how luck he appears to be . No morning sickness and no hormones. As they say it'll get you in the end so clearly bound for a hellish birth!!!
Anyway- done 3 1/2 hours of ironing. Had to play catch up from my tired first trimester. Finally at the bottom of the basket. Off for swim and then back to tidy the house before DH home from work at 10pm. Want him to realise I do more than sit on my every expanding bum!!! Hope you all have a fab weekend xx

scooby26 · 20/09/2009 17:45

Sarah* - meant Herbie - NOT Bertie !! Doh! There are lots of other nice prams according to the reviews but not that I ca buy in person up North. I want to buy froma shop that I can physically see what I'm getting and take it back if theres a problem.

xx

RetroMum1 · 20/09/2009 18:59

Evening All

Pixie I glad your DD is getting special treatment to make it that bit more bearable!.

My bump also seems to be here to stay, the waiter in Pizza express even due it in the stick picutre of me for DD!.

Well just a quick one for me we are off to Euro Disney tomorrow for DD's 2nd birthday. She is so excited I'm not sure DH is having much luck getting her down to sleep!.

Have a good week all and I look forward to catching up when I get back.

xxx

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 20/09/2009 19:44

scooby- its so hard to pick one and know its perfect!!!!! there are too many to choose from!!!lol

waves at everyone else, off to watch x-factor, c u tomorrow

Minicooper · 20/09/2009 19:44

Evening ladies, I'm another one with a bump that's here to stay! Just spent far too long in the changing room in John Lewis seeing myself from all angles wearing jeans and a bra that I bought at about 36 wks last time and is already too small It is not a pretty sight! Am already repeating like a mantra - I will lose the weight after this one, I will....

Minicooper · 20/09/2009 19:46

Retromum, suspect the size of my bump may be partly due to enormous lunch eaten there on Friday. I hold them fully responsible!

Minicooper · 20/09/2009 19:46

Pizza Express, that is. Pregnancy brain!

annamama · 20/09/2009 20:44

I just went on mamas & papas sale again looking for a cardigan, found one I liked only to then see it is "out of stock". Oh well. For some reason I really don't care too much about maternity clothes, I just make do with whatever. But soon after the birth I will get fit, slim and look fabulous every day! Yeah right...

There's a thread under Baby Names where people are listing all the kids under 7 that they know. It takes ages to read it all but is quite interesting! (We named DD Ellie, thinking it was quite a rare name... hahaha. Almost every single person on the thread knows at least one.)

OP posts:
Pingpong · 20/09/2009 21:18

yes I looked at the M&P site and all the items I clicked on seemed to be available in size 6 or 20+, well surprise surprise I'm somewhere inbetween that range like the most of the UK population! Looks like I'm too late. I had a look at the M&S maternity range online and thought it was very disappointing. My local shops don't have much in terms of maternity wear so I was hoping to pick up a few items online to boost my meagre maternity wardrobe from last time.
scooby26 I know that chosing a pram seems like a huge issue first time and it is really quite exciting but I just wanted to say that if you think you have made a big mistake then remember you can ebay it. My friend has changed her buggy/pram so many times I've lost count and she has even made money on some of the deals so it won't be entirely wasted money so choose what you want now and if you change your mind a few months in because it doesn't meet your requirements then change it! Oh and bear in mind that nearly everyone has a lightweight buggy in addition to their main one for holidays/leaving in the car or what ever reason they justify it!

Pingpong · 21/09/2009 08:45

spoke too soon about the sickness
17+3 today and vomited up my breakfast

Dophus · 21/09/2009 09:45

Oh dear Smac - it happens to me occasionally too. Just when I think it's safe out fo the blue I'm rushing for the loo.

ilovegreenbeans · 21/09/2009 10:40

smac- me too! My sil is 12 weeks and has had no nausea, no sickness. I'm still puking.

annamama · 21/09/2009 10:55

That's so awful Smac, Dophus and Beans... It really should stop soon, can't be much longer!

Ok, I don't want to post about this again really, sorry!, but I'm still worrying about these blood test risks for Downs I had (1:150). I'm having blood taken again on Thursday and sending it off to Barts for the "quadruple test". Hoping it will come back with a low risk, that combined with the low risk nuchal scan will make me feel much better! But if it's a high risk I'll probably go for an amnio. Me and DH are both quite old and we have NO family in this country and not many close friends. I just don't think we could cope with a DS child (I mean Downs Syndrome, not Darling Son, haha). So that's why I want to make as sure as I can... I'm not TOO worried, just a little bit. My question is, has anyone else got their letter with test results recently and if so what was their blood test risk?

Off to be tortured on cross-trainer now... eek.

Dophus · 21/09/2009 13:49

Mine was 1:545

... really don't worry about it you have a 1:149 chance of having a normal baby. If I were given those odds on winning the lottery - I'd bet the house!
