Hi Girls, useful update alert!!!!

I get email from team grasshopper who make organic porridge. They are offering free porridge and I will be ordering mine. Here is what they sent me:

If there is someone you want us to send a box of free porridge to please email their name and address to Fleur (email below) and tell us why they are special. Say it with porridge.

Enjoy girls {grin}

BTW, I don't work for this lot, I just think they are pretty cool.

annamamma I'd offer you my swedish friend but she's in central london! She's got something to do with a swedish shop called Totally Swedish on Crawford street in Marylebone - you may know about it already - but that might be a good place to look for someone to speak swedish to your kids. They do delicious pickled fish (sil? I think it's called) and no, I'm not getting a commission from them either.

Sorry to hear 'Mummy what's in your tummy' is no good. We're waiting for that to arrive in the post - I suspect we may have a long wait. We have got another book though called 'Waiting for Baby' which is quite sweet. It doesn't have any words but has pictures of things like pregnant mum with little boy visiting the doctor/midwife, getting a scan done, dad building the cot, grandparents turning up and mum going to hospital etc. DD seems to like it - whether she's actually made the connection between the book and the fact that I'm having a baby I'm not sure. At least with that one though you can make up the story yourself and add yourself in iyswim.

ilovegreenbeans · 14/09/2009 19:42

anna, I'm sorry, but both my swedish friends live in c. london too!

MummyElk · 14/09/2009 20:45

ooh some swedish loving, brill! sorry can't help you there though.
Pain about the books, will hold back for a bit then and see what general consensus is then. all i know at present is DD has a tantrum if i stroke the cat!! could be interesting next march!
scarily liking the emmaljunga site so am steering clear for the moment. I. Do. Not. Need. A. New. Pram.
On the plus side we're off to greece on friday, can't wait! and scan on wednesday.
Sorry this is all about me, have been at work and am fried. did get a nice cuddle with dd when i got home though which is unusual for her to be awake!
hope all well. anyone else beginning to feel a bit more normal (albeit fat?!!!)

Dalrymps · 14/09/2009 21:36

Evening ladies,

Had my 16 week midwife appointment today. I am 15 weeks and 2 days...

When I got there (at 9am after dropping ds off at mils) they appologised and said that the healthcare assistant who made my appointment had made it too early. Apparently I need to be at least 15+4 for them to do the bloodtest for downs. They made another appointment for me to go back next mon at 9am so another early start for me .

Has anyone else had their 16 weeks appointment yet? I was hoping the mw would listen to the babies heartbeat but as they sent me away I didn't get to find out, you think they will when I go back next week?

Sorry for the me me me post, am just so tired tonight, will catch up properly soon.

scooby26 · 14/09/2009 21:53

Dalrymps

Got my appt next week too. Wondered the same!

Pingpong · 14/09/2009 22:03

Hi ladies
I think they will listen for hb at 16w check. My mw tried at my booking in appt but I have an introverted uterus and am tall so bubs was tucked away and not letting us listen at all.
I'm 16+3 and have my triple test on Thursday and MW appointment a week tomorrow so 17+4 !

pureeandpearls · 14/09/2009 22:14

They do do hb at 16 weeks as far as I remember, but can let you know tomorrow after my (rescheduled) one!!

Arcadie · 14/09/2009 22:30

MummyElk Happily I am feeling a lot more normal. Still a migraine a week and the occasional craving for a certain fleshy fruit (you know who you are) but feeling much more human. Actually played with my kids today. Happy times!

RetroMum1 · 15/09/2009 10:06

If I remeber rightly I also think they do check the babies heartbeat at the 16 week check.

Congratulations Rindercella on your scan.

Well I;m slightly concerned I'm going to slip out of the system and miss my 20 week scan. I am moving when I am 18 weeks and then by the time I register at a doctors I will be almost 19 weeks and it usually takes 4 weeks for date to come through by which time I will be 23 weeks and I think that's too late to get the measurements?. Does anyone have any ideas of what i can do, I'm not allowed to pre-register before I move, I tired that yesterday.

Other than that we are merrily packing for Euro Disney next week for DD's birthday then the next day it's her party and then all systems go on the packing and moving front so a busy few weeks ahead!.

I hope everybody else enjoys there last BB holidays!.

Walnut8 · 15/09/2009 10:24

Retro, I moved home at around eight weeks and registered with a doctor at about ten weeks. I was a bit worried I would be too late for my 12 week scan as I heard others had to wait weeks and weeks for a scan date.

When I eventually saw a GP, he said I had to choose and book into a hospital quickly as I needed to get the 12 week scan organised asap. He faxed the hospital to give my details and then I called the hospital back two days later and they gave me a scan date and a first appointment date. They fit my scan in at 13+3, so was on the late side, but I think they can rush things through and fit things in if necessary. So you should be fine if you register with GP at 19 weeks.

Can anyone tell me the best place to get maternity pants and jeans in London? I really need some as my usual stuff is getting really uncomfortable. I've tried some on at H&M which were a nice fit but the elastic at the top of the waist really dug in!! I figure that's not normal? Is it possible to get comfortable stylish mat pants?? I don't mind how much I pay (to a point).

RetroMum1 · 15/09/2009 11:01

Thanks for that Walnut. I got most of my maternity trousers from Topshop. The one of Oxford Circus is really good. I like both there over the hbump and under th bump styles. I have got quite a few tops from JoJo mama the one on Battersea Rise is just maternity so they have nearly the whole range.

pureeandpearls · 15/09/2009 11:27

Can't hlp with the jaeans since I buy on eBay and have a lot of stuff left over from last time....

Back from 16 week appointment- heartbeat, bp and quick explanantion of my notes. Job done. Was delighted to hear hb.....

HeartOfCrystal · 15/09/2009 11:43

Waves at everybody mind if i join?? Due 7th of march with dc2
How is everybody feeling?

Walnut8 · 15/09/2009 11:47

Thanks Retro. Will try the Oxford Circus Topshop. Just looked online - they look like they have some nice long-line knits as well.

Hi HeartOfCrystal!

Dophus · 15/09/2009 11:54

My PFB started school today. So cute - far too hormonal to say goodbye. Embarrassing to be the only one in tears!

pureeandpearls · 15/09/2009 12:39

At least you have pg hormones to blame Dophus- most don't!!

mumbot · 15/09/2009 13:02

Welcome on board HofC congrats on dc2 x

Anyone else feeling twingy ligament type pain across their bellies? x

PacificDogwood · 15/09/2009 14:44

Hi, all, just checking in and catching up. Yeah to all of you how have already heard heartbeats, 'tis so lovely .
Welcome, HeartOfCrystal!
Aww, Dophus, it is usually the mummies parents who are more emotional at the first day at school and the darling children are not bothered or excited. I can remember being quite embarrassed on my mother's behalf on my first day at school . I hope he enjoys his first year, my DS1 had a great time last year, and DS2 could not wait this year (they have been going for 1 month now in Scotland).
Bump is growing at ridiculous speed here and I am so glad that I already know there is truly only one baby in there, LOL! No offence, Pixie..
My main problem in the last few days has been an absolutely stinking cold, inherited from DS1 (thanks for coughing in my face, grrr!) who had it last week. I cannot stop coughing, my stomach muscles hurt and please nobody ask about my pelvic floor . Pass the TenaLady...
Anyway, this too shall pass, I am sure. Hope everybody is well.

Dophus · 15/09/2009 14:52

Pelvic floor exercises?! I no longer have a pelvic floor! Greatly regret my VBAC for that one reason - no one bloody warned me it would be this bad

Can't cough sneeze throw up...

DS1 enjoyed his first morning at school. Was really sad to come home at lunchtime (half days until X-mas as Jan-born) as all of his friends were staying for the afternoon.

mumbot · 15/09/2009 15:14

Dophus - I know what you mean about pelvic floor!! In your experience though which was the easier recovery from a pain and exhaustion point of view - VB or Csection? x

Thanks for offering me your swedish friends... I shall ask again if/when we move back to London I had to go to the embassy today in Marylebone to get a new passport as my current one is falling apart! No it's not because I'm such a jetsetter, it's cuz they are crap quality. Anyway, I passed by the Totally Swedish shop but it was still closed as it was early in the morning. It looks cute.

Mumbot - I think I have the same pains as you, across the sides of my belly (?) Last time they came much later in pregnancy... Nothing too bad though, I count myself lucky that I for example don't have that SPD thing, seems awful.

Re pelvic floor... I posted about this a while ago... I've read that there is help to be had, no one should have to suffer a lifetime of Tena Lady purchases! There was a long article in a Sunday paper written by Ulrika Johnson about it... Don't know any more details but I suggest asking your midwife/GP or if they're clueless google it! Mine was quite bad for about 6 months but are almost back to normal... for now!

Swingsofglory - thanks for book tip!

Welcome Heartofcrystal! Seems like most people are feeling better from nausea at least, what about yourself?

Maternity trousers... The under bump ones always fall down, the over bump ones are too early to use, feels weird... Perhaps I shall borrow DH's braces and put on the under bump ones.

Retromum1 I don't think you should worry about your 20 weeks scan and measurements.

In Northern Ireland '12 week scans' are done any time between 10-14 weeks, and '20 week scans' can happen any time around 20 weeks, it doesn't have to be spot on 20 weeks.

For example, the hospital I'm booked in with did my scan at 10 weeks and I've got my appointment booked for when I'm 22 weeks as that was when the midwife is available to do it.

I think it's pretty much impossible to get every pregnant woman a scan at spot on her date by week, so a bit of flexibility is needed for some things.

I'm not sure if I'm right about any other country, but that's how it is here.

Dophus · 15/09/2009 16:51

mumbot for the first 24 hours - little difference. For the next 2 months definitely better recovery from VBAC. One year and beyond - better from CS as no problems with pelvic floor.

Given the choice again I must say that I regret slightly the VBAC. The pelvic floor thing drives me mad. I'm sick of peeing myself - I feel like a little old lady that smells of wee! I can't do bloody jump jacks!
