Hellooo Arcadie, if you're around today? - I've requested to join the FB group, please let me in!

Good to hear some views on my underwire vs shapeless and unflattering question. Think I'm going to stick with the underwire til it gets uncomfortable then make the switch. I stuck to all the rules last time I was pg - not feeling quite so dedicated this time around.
And feeling quite intrigued about your BF bra tip, annamama!

Can't believe everyone has such extensive lists of names already! We've got a boy's name pretty much lined up I think cos we didn't get to use it last time. But if it's another girl, we're stuffed! Took us pretty much the full nine months to come up with DD's name and it was the only one we both liked and could agree on! Think I'll start working on DH with some of my preferences from last time which he vetoed - I love Charis but he's still not fond of that one. Also liking Jessica, Naomi and Erin.

Retromum, I think I like Berry! I'm all for unusual names, and it's definitely not in the same category as Apple.

PacificDogwood · 01/09/2009 14:08

Hi, everybody!
Lovely to hear all the positive scan reports, congratulations!

Caspar/Kasper is the German name for Punch as in "Punch and Judy", so sorry, not on my short list. Berry however, I really like, so go for it.

Need to get ready for school run. I'll check in again later as this thread just moves waaaaay to fast for me .

annamama · 01/09/2009 17:06

Minicooper and ILGB - congrats on good scans! Iwonka how did yours go?

My scan was fine, yay! As soon as she put the thing on my belly we could see the baby and it was moving its little arms around! I almost cried for a second when I realised it was alive. The nuchal measurement was 1.2 which is good and everything else was normal.

Very busy now as going to Rhodes for a week tomorrow morning and haven't started packing yet... Catch ya all later!

OP posts:
Minicooper · 01/09/2009 19:31

Yaym annamama!!! Have a great week in Rhodes - you'll enjoy it even more now you're official. And can officially let your belly hang out too!!!

Pingpong · 01/09/2009 20:38

Great there are more good scan results.
I'm going to hold back on commenting on the names so I don't fall out with you all ! I like traditional names so am a bit square and boring in that respect so best just to keep quiet!
I've got a few non-wired bras but I hate them as they squidge your boobs together and you are left with monoboob instead of a nice shape. Mine are feeling much heavier these last few days so must be the milk starting to fill up. I still fit some of my underwired bras so will hang on and wear them for as long as possible. I might treat myself to some nice BF bras this time as the last lot had no support at all and I wore them for much longer than I ever planned to.

annamama · 01/09/2009 21:28

Ahh I should be doing the last packing and not sitting here again... Thanks Minicooper, yes my belly is getting quite big now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Re bras again, last time I was pg I went to M&S to the "big boob section" and bought some nice underwired bras in size 34E (I'm normally 34C). It should feel comfortable obviously... And as for BF bras, I ordered some fabulous ones from a website, underwired but so comfy, I was wearing them 24/7 for 7 months. I will post the link a bit later on... if I can find it.

I like reading what names you like. For us it has to be something that is easy to pronounce (and is not offensive) both in english and swedish, so it rules out quite a few typically english names. For example I quite like Ashley but in swedish that sounds the same as a slang word for "arse"

Just quickly popping by to say congrats on all those with lovely scan results - I really can't wait until my 13 week scan next Thursday... but dreading this thursday's little shenanigans, esp. getting myself, DD and DH out of the house, DD to nursery and self to hospital by 10 am without my morning cuppa or even so much as a banana [dizzy emoticon required].

Just to say that I treated myself last week to some lovely maternity jeans from Mamas & Papas (30% off ? yay!) and while they fall down a bit and I'm inclined to get builders bum if I'm not careful they actually LOOK half decent, so double yay!

Also on friends' and mumsnet recommendation I went to Bravissimo for non-underwired maternity bras. Got fitted properly (an F cup though - bleedin' heck) and while the bra looks like something your gran might wear, when under clothes it looks ok - and I still have 2 boobs and am surprisingly supported. So all good. Was £19 so not the cheapest on the block, but v. good quality. Might have to get a black one to match. Just got ones from M&S last time and spent the entire pregnancy falling out of them in one way or another. Refused to do that again!

Re: names - well, I've decided! DH has yet to be convinced on my choice for girl's first name, but is happy with the rest and I'll find a way of persuading him on that one .

Girl: Amelie Hope (Ford - it's a family name from my side and all our children will have it - much to DHs chagrin - I said I gave up my lovely surname for his dodgy South African one so he just has to put up with it!)

Boy: Jacob John (Ford) His Dad's middle name and my Dad's middle name - but the name he was known by.

Our DD is Isabella Grace (Ford).

Probably not much room for manoevre in that - once I've made up my mind that's pretty much it!

Anyway, have to email architects and builders and solicitors and structural engineers... And we still haven't f-ing exchanged!!

Must dash (again) - hugs to all,

db
xx

p.s. taht wasn't actually very quick, was it?

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 02/09/2009 08:16

Morning All

Big congratulations to all who had fab scan results yesterday. I am now counting down the days until mine which is Monday.

Well I must be more productive today and get on with the propping, does anyone lnow where I can find a gold sceptre and orb?!

I too think I am beginning to feel some movement. More like swirling round in my lower stomach than kicks but something is happening.

DH and myself are now in heated discussions about staying in London or going back to hte cotswolds with me crying everytime he brings it up. I don't feel ready to leave London, I love it and it's my favourite place in the country but i do think the schools are btter back home. He has already moved back mentally but i don't seem to be able to let go. I think it's because if we do it we will make the decision and go within bout 8 weeks which seems very quick.

What do you other Londoners think, do you think our love affair with London has ended now we have children anyway as we can't enjoy it like we did or does it have something to give the DC nowhere else can?

Congrats to everyone on the recent scans. Have to admit that I, like Pixie, am a bit jealous! Oh well, only a week to wait now.

Trying to make myself not think too much about names until after scan as I'm a bit superstitious about that sort of thing (silly I know). As my surname is German am thinking of going with a German name though ... but have no idea really of any good ones! (suggestions anyone???). Weighing in on the Berry debate - it's a very pretty name but as a former lawyer, I have to say I don't think it would carry well in the professional world, if that's the way the baby decides to go! But then if she turned out to be an artist ... then it's great! Am sorry too Retro about your dilemma over where to live. Had a few fights with my husband as he recently got a job in London and so we moved (from Surrey). It's a tough decision.

ilovegreenbeans i think that was me re the barkantine. Have decided to go with UCH instead just because I didn't want to end up at the Royal. Seems good so far, but I've only had a booking in.

Clueless first-time that I am, I didn't even know i wasn't supposed to be wearing underwire bras until someone mentioned it on here. The things you learn ... My bras are getting tight and uncomfortable though (as is everything else) so I might have to venture out today to get something bigger.

Caitni · 02/09/2009 11:26

Morning ladies

So much to catch up on since I was last on MN on Thurs! Great to read happy news about scans and people's lovely name choices

Arcadie great idea about a MN group! I've requested to join (initials CC).

Retro sorry to hear about your moving dilemma. We moved back to London in Jan after a trial of living in Brighton...moving away from London made me realise that I LOVE it in London and hope that doesn't change when the LO arrives. Having said that, neither of us is British so if I had a "home" to move to somewhere else in the UK then I'd be sorely tempted to move back (especially after a short holiday in Ireland when I can see how my nieces and nephews are in and out of each other's everyday lives in a way that our LO won't be).

Hope everyone had a great long weekend. We had great fun in Ireland and I was given heaps of maternity clothes (which I'm loving! A whole new wardrobe in one go...) as well as some little bits and bobs for the baby (like a sling). The advantages of having a baby after all my siblings have already had some (I'm one of six) .

I'm 14 weeks now and have my 16 week hospital app today as both me and the obs are away over the next few weeks. Since it's just over a week since my booking in I have a feeling I'll have to make another app as my results won't have come back ...will just have to wait and see!

Time to catch up on work. Hope everyone has a good Wednesday

Minicooper · 02/09/2009 11:58

Retro - the moving dilemma... I'd say if you're like to move back to the Cotswolds in the next few years it may make sense to do it now - you won't believe the network you'll build up during your first year as parents - and once you've got it, it'll be much harder to leave and start again. That's been my experience anyway!

Caitni · 02/09/2009 12:35

What bad news for CAFW

Re the moving out of London debate, we moved out at the beginning of the year and I haven't regretted it a jot even though my new commute to work (still in London - but only 3 days a week) is around 1 3/4 hours door-to-door instead of a half hour walk. Moving out (to Hampshire, where DH has family) had been sort of on the agenda for some time but the arrival of DS crystallised it. Although we loved living where we did - right on the edge of the Square Mile itself - and we had a beautiful flat close to Spitalfields, Brick Lane and Borough Market etc, it just wasn't child-friendly. We had no garden of our own, there were no parks, very few mother-and-baby groups and all of my friends with children were a long way away. The first few months of DS's life were a very hard, isolating time and I think our location contributed. Obviously we could have moved further out but still stayed within London itself but neither DH nor I grew up in London and we both wanted the same sort of upbringing for our child(ren). Now we have a house with a garden that is 5 minutes walk from a park and 10 minutes walk from open countryside but still very close to shops, restaurants, excellent schools and lots of child-friendly activities.

So, it was the right decision for us but everyone is different and Pixie is right, there are lots of London positives. It just depends what you want most.

I've have posted on the thread.

Hi all,

Horrible news about CAFW , just when she thought she was safe . Let this be the absolutely last one and may we all go on to have healthy and happy pregnancies.

Well I just can't keep up with you all - even one day away and there are about a zillion posts!

I am now 15+4 and I felt the baby move yesterday!!! Can't believe I felt it so early but I'm sure if I hadn't had 2 previous pregnancies I would never have realised what it was - so lovely to feel it though - feels like it's me and him/her together now in constant communication

Interesting to hear about moving in/out of London. I've never lived there and have always had a bit of an urge to do so but there are so many people here in Oxford who moved out after having children that I think we are probably in th right place for now.

Is anyone else still feeling sick? I was sick twice over the bank holiday w/e and am still feeling nauseous in the evenings - it had stopped by 8-10 weeks with my DD and DS so this is not what I expected at all. Definitely DEFINITELY my last pg!

Have changed my DD on the list now that I am not the only one due in Feb!

So sorry to hear about CAFW

Just wanted to add my tuppenceworth to the in/out of London debate. I think it really depends which bit of London you are in as to how child-friendly it is. I'm in London -albeit a pretty unfashionable bit of SE London and we've got a house with a garden, loads of parks nearby (I can walk to four at least) and billions of local baby / toddler groups and activities. There's a really good nursery and state primary nearby and believe it or not, we know all our neighbours. So it can be OK but I think it's probably easier if you're further out of town rather than right in the centre unless you've got oodles of cash in which case you can probably do what you like!

Caitni · 02/09/2009 14:07

DrSkid hurrah for feeling the baby move . Though sorry to hear you're still sick...

PacificDogwood · 02/09/2009 15:48

Cannot really add to the "to move or not to move" out of London debate as I have never lived there although love to visit.
We moved out of the glamourous West End of Glasgow to the far less exciting suburbia of the Central Belt in Scotland. Personally, we have not regretted the decision for a minute: huge house for the price of tiny 2 bedded mews, walk to prim AND sec school, walk to work, all shops locally, Clyde v close by etc etc. But then again we have always been rather boring in regards to going out even BC (before children ) - so moving to the sticks maybe only suits saddos like us .

As to CAFW's news, what can I or anybody say, so sad. I have posted on her other thread.
