Nectarine count for the long weekend: 15....

designerbaby · 31/08/2009 22:57

Just brief cause I am going to bed - good luck tomorrow all scan people - hope you get lovely piccies to take home.

And Iwonka - excellent chice of girls' name! Our DD is an Isabella - and is Issie at home and Bella at nursery - and I love both! .

And minicooper - what a load of old twaddle your midwife did spout. Not lifting your DC... and what, pray, does she expect you to do instead? "Come DD, please climb up here into the highchair by yourself - no, mummy can't help you." "Oh DD, you've fallen and bumped your head? Sorry but Mummy isn't allowed to pick you up and give you a cuddle, midwife says so."

I get really when people spout 'advice' which is completely impractical to follow, so you end up feeling anxious and guilty about doing something you can't avoid! It's like that whole swine flu "pregnant women and those with young children should avoid going out. Anywhere. Until this thing passes - so about a year then." Ooooooh. I've got all mardy. Apologies, climbing off soapbox now.\

FWIW DD spends much of her time bouncing up and down in the vicinity of mummy's increasingly bouncy tum... .

Really praying we get exchange on both house things tomorrow - would really be a load off.

Right - bedtime!

Glad all ok - arcadie will request MN group shortly please.
can't add anything more entertaining, we went out for dinner and cinema tonight (mum has DD) and, er....ate too much...and decided to sack the cinema and watch Sky+ on sofa instead....
night night [sleepy emoticon]

MummyElk · 01/09/2009 07:57

morning me again - last on, first in! sorry!
What's the deal then with swine flu vaccine? are pg women going to be offered it? what are people's thoughts on this pls?

Tigresswoods · 01/09/2009 08:06

Hi mummyelk we had a big loooong discussion about swine flu and the vaccine onthe previous thread (do my boobs look big in this?)

Maybe feelings have moved on but the overwhelming consensus seemed to be that it was not tested enough on pregnant people to see what the affects might be.

pureeandpearls · 01/09/2009 08:30

......and I'm awake (who am I kidding? DD woke me at 6.30 and is now having a tanty on the sitting room floor.) Noticed a comment about underwires- I've had to ditch mine as I had outgrown them and am now wearing the world's most unflattering maternity bras (they only make cute stuff up to a D cup). The one thing I find with them is that they do have room for growth......tragic but true.

mumbot · 01/09/2009 09:01

Morning all, good luck to everyone with scans coming up, let us all know how you get on.

I'm 13+5 today and feeling very sick again, got slightly better last week now I'm all green again

Managed to get to the gym though at the weekend, going to try and keep going for as long as I can (only do light exercise).

Also hoping to get a few nice maternity bra's, but not sure where from yet, would like something pretty rather than the boring grey M&S one's I had last time.

xx

Dophus · 01/09/2009 09:33

Hi everyone - hope you had a good weekends. I certainly did.

1st September alwasy seems like the start of winter. I even put my boots on today (rain is forecast later). I have always always found this time of year quite saddening - I guess I have never lost the back to school feeling.

re Swine flu - pregnant woman and health workers will be the first to be offered the vaccine. I have made the decision that I will not have it for myself nor my children. That is my decision and mine alone.

Tigress - agree with you re Frimley waiting room - but having sepnt time in both StPeter's and Royal Surrey's waiting rooms - it's no worse ( but their receptionists are!)

RetroMum1 · 01/09/2009 10:00

Morning All

Can't believe I just wrote a massive post and it got lost

Basically good luck to all with scans today.

Sorry i haven't been on recently but been away for the weekend.

Swine flu jab - I'm not going to have it as I'm worried that it hasn't been tested properly.

Nurseries - we do very bright nurseries, DD's was bright orange/yellow with one wall of 60's wallpaper which was green, red and orange and she has the stokke nursery furniture which i would definitely recommend it's been brilliant.

Re names - we like slightly unusual names and we are laways stuck with boys names. At the moment for a boy we like

RetroMum1 · 01/09/2009 10:08

Auh I have tried to post 3 times now and it keeps shutting down so I will do lots of little ones!.

Boys names - Stanley, Kasper, Rupert and I love Kit but DH doesn't

We have a DD called Poppy and we wanted to use Daisy but everybody says like Jamie Oliver which is very annoying so we met someone who had a DD called Berry which we love and are thinking of using that.

Honest opinions please as I'm not sure if it's to unusual for us. I love B as a nn and think Berry is lovely. I think the idea of calling your child Apple or Plum is ridiculous but i don't feel the same about Berry. I'm not sure if it's because we know someone called it or if it's because there isn't a single item called Berry it is a food group.

RetroMum1 · 01/09/2009 10:11

We live in London and around here nobody has old fashioned common names so it wouldn't seem strange but DH has decided this weekend that the schools around here aren't good enough for our DC and we need to move back to the country. Well I say DH has decided but that's not quite true, it's always been a long term plan but I didn't think it would happen before this LO was born!. But a good job has come up that may not again and it seems like we must take the plunge. i am sad about leaving all our frinds and worried about not knowing anyone other than family back in the Cotswolds.

I also wondered whether Berry would be too unusual there and if they could get teased for it. i would hate for this to happen but we both love the name.

mumbot · 01/09/2009 10:16

I can't believe how organised people are having names already!

RetroMum I quite like Berry, it's really cute, but not everyone is as open minded so it may cause some issues for your little one, that shouldn't stop you but just something to think about. Also would people assume it's short for Beryl? Like your boys names apart from Kasper but that's only because I think of Casper the friendly ghost (showing my age). x

Sariska · 01/09/2009 10:20

Oh, I love the name Caspar too - but DH won't hear of it. Even though I think it goes really well with DS's name.

Am v. of everyone's increasing bra sizes. I have been an A cup ever since I scaled back BFing to once a day. I though being pg would make me grow again but nope! No chance. And as for underwired bras..... They started getting uncomfortable early in my last pregnancy and I haven't been able to bear them since. And you wouldn't believe the trouble I had trying to find padded, non-underwired bras.

Arcadie, I've just requested to join the FB group.

Good luck to everyone with scans today.

Sariska · 01/09/2009 10:23

mumbot - that's one reason why my DH doesn't like Caspar. That and Caspar Weinberg. (My own slight reservation is that it means something like "clown" in German and I have a lot of German friends.) Not that I mean to try and put you off, RetroMum. As I said, I think it's a lovely name. I also really like Kit.

RetroMum1 · 01/09/2009 10:26

Oh my goodness Kasper was meant to be Jasper typo!. DH suggested Casper and that's exactly what i said

RetroMum1 · 01/09/2009 10:31

Ha Ha how funny everybody likes Casper and it's not one of our options! Maybe i should reconsider!. I love Kit and if I had been a boy i would have been Christopher so i think it has a nice link but DH doesn't but still I'm working on it!.

Re Bras I'm a 32H normally so i hate the fact my boobs grow! I also have no option but to wear underwired. Nobody would thank me if I didn't!!!.

Dophus · 01/09/2009 10:32

We regretted not calling DS2 Jasper as his name has never really stuck with us. I also liked Casper but DP (since upgraded to DH)wouldn't hasve it have it.

So maybe is we have a DS3 then Jasper he will be. We were put off previously I have a friend called Jasper.

Rindercella · 01/09/2009 10:32

Hello everyone

Good luck to all those having their scans today - looking forward to hearing all the news. Just under two long weeks til mine

Re swine flu, there's an interesting thread here on that very subject. Personally, I doubt very much if I would have it. For me I couldn't bear thinking I had put my baby at any risk. And who knows if there would be any long term risks? I have yet to hear an argument to convince me otherwise. But everyone has to make their own decision based on what is right for them.

I'm finding it fun thinking of potential names. We don't have a definitive list yet, but like either Otis or Cassius for a boy. Not too sure on girls' names yet - I love Clementine, but DH doesn't! DD is India, and we have a very common surname, so we do need something a little different, but not too 'out there'. Am loving your choices RetroMum!

Dophus · 01/09/2009 10:33

We have a girls name decided (as decided as you can ever be at 13 weeks) however we're not telling!

With the previous pgs names on the list this early were gone by then end (actually that's not true - DS1 I've wanted since I was at school and there was a really cool kid with his name)

Minicooper · 01/09/2009 12:07

Morning ladies. Am back from my scan and yay - all well!!!! Could see loads - much better than how I remember it last time. Little heart beating away - and they've changed my dates, so I'm nearly 13 weeks already - woohoo! Roll on the second trimester!

Good luck iwonka and annamama - and thanks to all for the good wishes.

Now onto the more important issue of names We struggle with boys names, but shortlist at the moment includes Isaac, Joeland William. For girls we like Elsa, Esther and Martha. So far - I'm sure this will change. And dh is Chinese so we'd like a Chinese middle name - we did this for dd and both love both her names, so we now have to think of something just as good. Oh the pressure!

Updated list below. Have fabulous Tuesdays, everyone!

Hmm 'Joel and William...' not Joeland, though that kind of works too

ilovegreenbeans · 01/09/2009 12:50

Hi girls!

Had my scan on Friday and it was great! The sonographer was brilliant and baby (just one!) was really moving around. They've moved my dates forward a bit too, but since I've already put "my" dates on the list, I'll leave it at that. Not that it will make a smidgen of difference to the baby who will come just when he or she pleases!

Someone was asking about the Barkantine in the last thread I think- I had dd there and it was great. Excellent midwives, fab facility. As I has a PPH with dd (and an APH too) I will not be going back there, but am heading to the hospital straight off. We've asked a friend of ours to be with us, like a doula almost, and I feel so much more confident about having a hospital birth now.

We have 1 boy and 2 girl's names that we like at the moment, but it's all bound to change!
