DB You are "in the club" in more ways than one now.... Mmmmm banana bread.....

TakeLovingChances · 30/08/2009 11:48

Hi, in ref to previous posts about FB, I'm not on FB so can't join your club. Thankfully I'm happy enough with MN club

A bad (?) thing happened yesterday and I need hugs and support....

I am 13 odd weeks pregnant. Went to toilet yesterday morning and I was bleeding. Brown blood, but a reasonable amount of it. My heart was in my throat, so scared! I woke DH up and we went to hospital. He is a doctor who used to work in that dept so nurses all know him. We got to sneak into one of the scanning rooms to check Baby TLC. DH did scan, all looks great, baby measuring a week above age my dates work him/her out to be, very active baby bouncing up and down like tigger on a spring! Baby even yawned during the scan and has a good heartbeat.

So we know that baby is okay, but I'm still bleeding a bit and just so scared that something will go badly wrong and baby will die

Stress!!!

Pingpong · 30/08/2009 12:09

sorry to hear about bleeding TLC but good news on the scan though. Could it be cervical erosion? Sounds bad but apparently it is very common and explains a lot of bleeding in an otherwise healthy pregnancy.
Unlike many of you I'm not getting any relief on the peeing in the night stakes and I'm over 14 weeks now but it didn't happen last time either so I'm jealous but not surprised!
I'm also not getting the fruit cravings that you talk of - for me it's cheese and onion sandwiches and crisps and chocolate. Not very healthy I'm afraid!
Thanks for the VBAC stories ladies. In RL I only know of one successful VBAC and that was a friend who's first birth was a cs as ds was breech then she had two VBACs other friends who have had failure to progress have just gone down the el-cs so I don't have much to go on.
Current dilema is what to wear to MILs 3rd wedding which is in 3 weeks time. I really don't want to be wasting money on a dress I'll wear once - I'm not big enough for a maternity dress but need a size bigger than normal right now. I've got a slinky red number that might do but I tried it on today and look fat - maybe in 3 weeks I'll look obviously pregnant. So it's slinky or tent but MIL is having 2 dos so in 5 weeks time I need another outfit! think it might be tent time by then!
Dithering about joining FB - might wait til I tell a few more people in RL just incase anyone spots my membership before I can delete it!

TakeLovingChances · 30/08/2009 12:54

Smac it may be cervical erosion, I'm not sure. I declined the offer of an internal exam, just was in such a mix of emotions yesterday that I couldn't face an internal.

Have a midwife appointment on 7 Sept so might have one then if bleeding is still an issue or if she offers it to me.

TLC, sorry to hear about you fright, but "yeah!" to reassuring scan result. Cx erosion certainly a possibiliy.
I did not realise I was pregnant with DS2 until I was 16 weeks gone because I had bled monthly and had just assumed my bleeds were periods... So there, all sorts of things are possible.
Are you going to have a later scan? @ 20 weeks? It might be worthwhile have the position of your placenta checked to rule out placenta preavia (low lying placenta) which can cause bleeding problems in pregnancy (and which is what I had, diagnosed at 25 weekd). Hope it all settles down nicely .

scooby, re cars: ha, DH will need to reconsider how practical a "family car" his Porsche is !! He is all maudlin already and keeps pretending he had nothing to do with this pregnancy, hee, hee! I have been driving the mahoosive family wagon for 18 months now and it will acoomodate another passenger, so need to change, thank goodness!

Pixie, nursery colours: I really like a sunny yellow: nicely unisex, but baby friendly, always looks warm, even on a grey day.
Having said that our kid's room are all painted some shade of magnolia with one wall in a really bright colour: so far we have red, blue and green .

I survived birthday party in local soft play area, usual mayhem, but no major accidents and the rendition of happy birthday was so heartfelt that my hearing will never be the same again....
Have a good Sunday, all of you .

scooby26 · 30/08/2009 21:00

Hi all,

Sorry to hear your woes/concerns TLC - take peace from the fab scan if you can and hopefully it'll just be one of those things. 50 % of women bleed at some point apparantly.

Just stuffed myself with tea and dropped DH out for a pint with Bro in law. Peaceful now but sadly having to use it to study for an exam in ten days time. I really should have done loads by now but having had absolute exhaustion for 8 weeks - I haven't. Feeling much less tired now I've cracked the 12 weeks mark. Not really bothered about passing as don't want the job that would come with success anyway but feel I should at least try as I was unable to pull out of the exam by the time I found out we were pregnant.

Why can't I have cravings for fruit like all you sensible souls??? I am really struggling to get close to '5 a day'.

Is anyone else feeling an urge to tidy round and sort?? Is it too early to nest???? If only I had time to sort all the things I want to. Maybe in 11 days I'll change my focus!

I was given 4 boxes of maternity clothes from my twin sister today. I really should go through them but the revision guilt is stopping me and they are piled up waiting for my attention. Saldy my twin is a size 8-10 and I'm a 12 so how much will fit remains to be seen, but it was a nice gesture. As she has just finished having her children this is the first of many gratefully recieved cast offs. Im not proud - it'll save me hundreds over the years with various clothes, toys etc etc.

Oh well - enough of my quick break and back to the study.

TakeLovingChances · 30/08/2009 22:57

Pacificdogwood thanks for advice. I have scan booked for 22 weeks, which I'm soooo excited about! DH said he had a look at placenta, it is in the right position. I feel so thankful that DH knows all this medical stuff to help me, I knew all those years he did in uni would be useful sometime

Scooby26 what are you studying? I'm in 2nd year of my degree (am a 'mature' student), but I plan to stop at Christmas and take a year out to look after Baby TLC and go back the following year.

As for nursery colours: I haven't even thought that far ahead!

Pixie I'm not panicked about nursery colours, will take that nice and slow in a few months time.... will stand outside the door bossing DH around while he paints and papers

DH and I have two names picked and I hate to see people's faces when they don't like them, how their faces screw up. My mum has actively told me I CAN'T call Baby TLC either of the names DH and I have chosen!!! She is a very cheeky woman and I'm not listening to her.

Names we have so far: Juliet and Nathaniel.

annamama · 31/08/2009 11:04

I feel really down and nervous about the scan tomorrow. My belly is big and I've had no bleeding... so all should be ok?! But it doesn't feel like it, it feels like there just can't be a live baby in there! I didn't feel like this first time around, maybe I have been reading too much sad stories, or maybe I think we've just been too lucky getting pregnant straight away for the second time... But hopefully me and the 2 others having scans will all have good news tomorrow!

We saw a newborn baby in a restaurant last night. DD was looking at it a lot and kept saying "baby". DH said "do you want a baby?". She nodded her head and looked very serious. DH: "be careful what you wish for!"

Names... I think it's very hard to think of nice names, I dislike 99% of all names. Not that I think about people, oh what an ugly name you have, but I just don't think it would suit my child... Also we need something that can work both in English and Swedish, for example that rules out Ashley which sounds almost the same as "arse" in Swedish. DD is Ellie and our favourite names so far for new baby are Max or Isabelle.

Off to lie on sofa and think about doom and gloom some more... Hope everyone else is having a happy BH Monday!

annamama I think most women feel that way before they get their scans. Please don't think there's something wrong with you.

Just try to relax (I know it's easy to say that) and wait until you're in the scanning room tomorrow.

Let us know how it goes.

Sooo many posts since I was last here!

Sorry am so crap and keeping up with them at the moment.

I've requested to join the facebook group

Not craving fruit at all, pasties, crisps, ice pops, oh dear! In fact i'm not fancying much at all to eatas my indigestion makes me feel so umcomfotable and sick and the new stuff I got from the doc isn't much better than the Gaviscon . It's called peptac I think. I've lost 8lb so far through a combination of morning sickness and indigestion. Any indigestion sugestions Pacificdogwood?

Where abouts in Soctland are you pacific?

Names we have so far are Evie and Miles, not really looked in to many more yet... Dd is Dylan McGregor...

Dh off today so even though I slept cr*p all night he got up with ds at 6.35 and let me sleep till 10.30, bliss.

hecklephone · 31/08/2009 13:32

Hello all,

Happy Monday everyone, have just dropped DD off at nursery school and should really be doing something useful but the lure of MN is too great...

scooby - i'm with you on the nesting thing-have been quite industrious about tidying and sorting some things out, at least since the worst of the sickness passed. Was v proud of myself last week for gutting the area round the computer to give us a really neat and tidy clutter-free desk (makes smug face). We've also had a new bathroom fitted in the last few weeks, which has pretty much FORCED us to clear out a lot of crap. And DH is laying more flooring in the loft so we can store more stuff up there instead of in every free corner of the hallway, kitchen, dining room etc etc. I'm just really looking forward to clearing out the small bedroom to make it into a nursery again!

TLC glad your scan went well, despite your scare beforehand...what a useful DH you've got! I'd find it hard to resist telling him about every ache and pain if my DH was a doc!

Am becoming obsessed with surfing the net for maternity clothes just now...I guess I'm just glad of the excuse for a bit of clothes shopping (wink) I do have some stuff from last time but it's been round three other friends and a lot of it is summer gear, which really isn't going to cut the mustard in North East Scotland in December! Am drooling mostly over Mamas and Papas stuff - v nice but pricy. And like the look of Next too. Is anyone into the old non-underwired bra yet? Or anyone planning to flaunt the rule and go for underwire all the way? Am trying to hold onto the underwire as long as possible before succumbing to the shapeless wonders.

Anyway, I really should go and get cracking with something more productive...

scooby26 · 31/08/2009 14:49

Hi all,

TLC - sadly my exam is a promotion exam of which I have bob hope and no hope of passing!!

Pixie - we will just paint the nursery to brighten it up a bit - ie new clean walls. Its is a spare room at present and we will just paint it some derivitive of magnolia and brighten it up with accessories until we know what sex it is. When we know after birth we will probbaly paint one wall either pale blue or pale pink.

Name - lots of nice suggestions here so far - Sadly as we are last of our friends to join the club some of the names are taken. Currently liking Oliver and Jessica.

Bought some clothes in Mamas and Papas sale online last night - had 30% off so not too bad - see if they fit when they arrive.

Hecklephone - my sister avoided underwire for no 1 and didnt bother with no 2/3. Think I'll stay in underwire for a little longer - although that said I'm off out any sec to head to M & s for new undies as I'm rapidly running out of anything that fits.

I have to cought that DH was off this morning so we took the rare opportunity of us both being off and headed off to yet more shops. We succumbed and bought a fleecy blanket and flumps first furry outer suit to bring it home from hospital in - both very cute. I won't buy much but I wanted to buy the dead cute furry suit!!! We had a little look at prams and cots. It's very confusing as there is so much. Think we will end up plumping for what we like the look of as haven't got much else of a clue!! The only thing I do now is that we want a pram where baby faces us rather than away - or at least has the option to swop about. Mamas and Papas switch seems an obvious choice - anyone know much about them??

X

PS

Good luck to the three of you that have your scans tomorrow - I'm sure you will all be fine and enjoy the experience!

Pixie - completely agree with your list of naming 'rules'. Both myself and DH have long names that we can shorten and both like that principle. Gives you options as you grow up when you fancy a change and when they are beng naughty they have a 'sunday' name - hee hee - not that we hope that it will be used often for that!! I know certainly Jessica is high up on most popular names at the mo - but not so much up north so I don't think there would 6 in her class!

Back from m&s 4 bras heavier and 45 quid lighter!! Still gotta be comfortable.

Have a good week everyone - enjoy lots of fruit while you all fancy it - pizza with tons of cheese for me again - trying to convince myself that all the cheese is good for the growing bones!

becky7000 · 31/08/2009 19:09

Hi, hope everyone has enjoyed their BH weekend.

We haven't thought about names yet. It took us long enough last time to agree!

We have a long surname so our DCs have short first names, Max, Jess and Sam. I like the more traditional names but haven't thought beyond that. I will dig out the name book nearer the time. But loving hearing all your ideas. Keep them coming and I might be inspired!

Minicooper · 31/08/2009 19:25

Happy Bank Holiday ladies! And a sunny one too!

Annamama, will gladly hold your hand waiting for our scans tomorrow I'm worried too - I think mainly because having a very lively toddler around does not really allow for a very relaxing pregnancy! Also my (admittedly childless) midwife told me at my booking in appointment last week that I shouldn't be carrying or lifting dd anymore [hmmm] I seem to be constantly carrying her, being jumped on and kicked in the stomach by her! But seen as we are designed to be able to bear more than one child, I am hoping that these los are more hardy than I think they are.

Will be hoping all goes well for iwonka and you, Annamama tomorrow and hopefully all 3 of us will be posting good news soon.

hecklephone · 31/08/2009 20:47

Hey scooby - thanks for the tip about the Mamas and Papas BH sale! Just bought a couple of tops and trousers I'd already spied on the website. Was gonna wait a bit longer to buy them but 30% off can't be ignored!

And also wanted to say all the very best to the three ladies getting their scans tomorrow - good luck.

I'm off to try to resist my second choc muffin of the day...

PacificDogwood · 31/08/2009 21:15

Very best of luck to all scanees tomorrow!

No BH here , v v wet day - yes you've guessed it, I am in Scotland, grrrr!

DSs1 and 2 have been in school for 2 weeks now, DS2 in P1 still only goes until lunchtime. It makes for a lot of toing and froing: school run in the moring, at lunchtime and again at 3pm. So I got wet 3 times.... Oh well, I am sure it is very good for my complexion, and I can do with all the help I can get .

As fas as mat clothes, baby stuff etc goes, well, DS4 will have to make do with an awful lot of hand-me-downs. I even still have the doublebuggy I bought for DS1 and 2 . But as I hate shopping with a vengance this is just as well.

Good night, all!

annamama · 31/08/2009 21:25

Thanks for all the messages of positiveness and encouragement re scan tomorrow, especially Pixie - I think you might be right. I'm feeling a little bit better about it now.

Minicooper - that's ridiculous about not lifting your child! Duh. I'm glad you're not obeying orders.

All I have to add tonight is about bras. I've heard that it's a myth that you have to avoid underwired! And we all know how crap support non-u/w give. I used underwires all the way through pg and BF, no probs. And my boobs aren't looking too droopy which I think could be thanks to good support... But if you find a well fitting non-u/w or you don't have too big boobs I guess that's fine too! When we get to the BF-bra buying stage I have a great tip for you.

Hello everyone,

Hope you guys had a lovely long weekend.

annamama and minicooper, it feels good to have company. The scan tomorrow has also been on my mind. Have been trying to distract myself, go out, keep busy but of course I can't stop thinking about it. Have to stay positive and try to enjoy this exciting time. We will see our baby(s)!!! I feel quite emotional just thinking about it...It will be such a relief have know that everything is alright. Wish you both all the best!

PixieOnaLeaf, I also like your criteria for picking names. Haven't given the subject much thought yet, although DH and I both agreed on Isabella as our top choice for a girl so far.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Arcadie · 31/08/2009 22:43

Hey scannees - really hope all goes well for you tomorrow. I've made the blunder of booking in and then going on holiday for a fortnight so will probably come home to find I've missed the scan. Hey ho...

Tigress - got you on the MN group. THere was someone else who I confirmed today (cos obviously I am a bishop) first name A.... any takers?
