Thought I would start a new thread for may. Just got bfp and I am really excited. I think I'm due 30th April/1st May but there are so many people on April already. Heres hoping for a healthy pregnancy. I will just wait for lots more of you to join me. xxxx

Bessie123 · 15/09/2009 09:46

LuckyC - I am having the same. Trying not to worry but these first few weeks seem to go by so slowly.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/09/2009 09:53

Ditto everything LuckyC said, Lizzie you're an inspiration!

My boobs aren't quite as sore as they were either, Lucky. And my trousers are getting tight although (tmi!) it's probably wind and bloating rather than bump at this stage.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 15/09/2009 09:56

HarryJoesMummy - no date for the practical yet, I'm still a way off I think! Although before next May would be good

Sorry to hear your news MummytoEli - fingers crossed for you!

I didn't know hotdogs were bad! But I'm really craving one now!

I'm meant to be going to Weight Watchers this evening - I've only just got started but I guess I'll have to leave. I want to be healthier this pregnancy but it's probably better to do that through exercise.

LuckyC - I had the odd 'no symptoms' days last time, it's really worrying! I was never able to just enjoy it.

newmomma · 15/09/2009 10:17

I'm finding the same - I didn't get a bump unti 26 weeks before but am feeling decidedly round today already. Worrying!

And have also had the odd few non-symptom days. They are worrying but I'm just trying to keep my head down and kind of forget about things at the moment - I have so much on my plate what with returning back to work in a month and trying to get my 8mth son ready to go to nursery (sob sob).

lizzie9442 I'm an accountant! Whats the course you're doing? Well done you!

Haven't had the dreaded sore boobs yet - but it got so bad last time I hated taking off my bra at the end of the night. God knows what it will be like trying to BF DS1 whilst in that amount of pain this time round...(!)

x

Bessie123 · 15/09/2009 10:24

newmomma - you probably won't get the pain if you are still bf; I think the pain is caused by milk ducts enlarging, getting ready to produce milk.

memorylapse · 15/09/2009 10:35

mummytoeli..keeping my fingers crossed for you..it may just be too early to see anything

newmomma · 15/09/2009 10:54

oh thanks for that Bessie123. thats good news - hooray for non-painful boobs!!

hopefully.

i keep thinking its such early days i feel silly even considering the future iyswim...

Bessie123 · 15/09/2009 10:56

yes, I do know what you mean. It's difficult imagining a dc as an older brother or sister as well, I think; they seem so small.

Hobnobfanatic · 15/09/2009 11:29

LIzzie9442 - I know what you mean about the 8-week mark. That's when I haemorrhaged in my last pregnancy. Was incredible that my DD survived ? but I'm not counting my chickens... I'll be on tenterhooks in a fortnight, just waiting for that week to pass.
It's good news that you're feeling so sick - that's meant to be a positive sign of a strong hormonal response. That's what I keep consoling myself with, anyway!

Good luck Mummytoeli ? do let us know how you get on. Thinking of you.

lizzie9442 · 15/09/2009 11:44

Hobnobfanatic - Yeah thats what i keep thinking about feeling so sick, as horrible as it is it makes you feel more pregnant. I'm sure we will be fine. Thats really good that you were ok last time. I don't know if there is something that happens in the 8 week mark that makes a difference in the baby developing.

newmomma - I have just finished AAT which is Association of Accounting Technicians and now I want to go on and do the ACCA course.

Thankyou everyone for your comments it makes me feel much better. I know alot of people do judge because of someones age but I don't feel like that at all on here. You are all a really great bunch of people that I feel I can talk to.

just a quick one re the cheese issue:

parmesan is fine one of the safest cheeses there is, it cannot be made from pasteurised milk and still be called parmesan IYSWIM BUT it is matured for about 3 years plenty of time for nasties to die off, it's as hard as nails that cheese

mozzarella - usually made from pasteurised milk and the process of making it heats the milk up twice so it's doubly safe.

I have eaten both is all pregnancies.

The only thing I avoid in pregnancy is alcohol, but I'm veggie so it's knocks a fair few things off.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 15/09/2009 12:27

SK - do you know about cured meats like salami and parma ham? They're normally one of my very favourite treats but iirc, you shouldn't have them in pregnancy so I abstained last time but wasn't sure exactly why.

Glad mozzarella is OK, we eat shedloads of it!

Lizzie9942 - Congratulations on your AAT.

memorylapse · 15/09/2009 12:28

memorylapse · 15/09/2009 12:29

heffa deli meats are off the menu in pregnancy as they can contain listeria

mich5lle · 15/09/2009 12:34

Thanks for your support and advice. Off to the doctors tonight so will hopefully get an estimated date

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 15/09/2009 12:40

memorylapse, could you perhaps enlist some help from homestart or something while you're so ill? And I think perhaps it would be a good idea to give the drugs a go, I know you said they make you a bit spaced out but surely that's better than housebound and feeling horrendous?

I googled cyclizine, and I found this on (shh) netmums :

hi, i had Hyperemesis during my pregnancy (very severe sickness) for 6 months. I had cyclizine but didn't really work for me.
To cut a long story short i was in and out of hospital from 7 weeks pregnant on drips because of dehydration I was given the vitamin 'Thiamin', when i was hydrated this worked wonders till the prescription for 30 days finished. In the end i asked my doctor if i could permanently go on this vitamin through the rest of my pregancy and i never looked back. Towards the end of my pregnancy i felt so well.
Since i had my daughter i have known 2 women who had sickness, both took thiamin and it worked for them too.

-
Another woman says:
I was also given Cyclizine but unfortunately it didn't prevent me having to go into hospital with hyperemisis. When I was discharged I was given Cyclizine and stemetil and the combining did the trick and i wasn't sick anymore.

Hope this helps you a bit! x

memorylapse · 15/09/2009 12:45

thanks James...had it in my last pregnancy and was not happy taking it..it put me to sleep!..worried about the effects to bean..Im so poorly now though I feel contantly sick and retch and vomit all day.going to get DH to pick up the script for me tomorrow when hes off work

memorylapse · 15/09/2009 12:46

The thiamin one is interesting..might mention to my doctor

hophophippidtyhop · 15/09/2009 12:51

just been to docs to get the paperwork going, should have a midwife app in a months time. I'm due 21 may and 37 when there's another list update- don't know how to do it myself! luckily no sickness here, just a bit of grumbly tummy. Wasn't sick last time, just bad heartburn, so hoping the same this time round. Happy if no heartburn though!

Gils · 15/09/2009 12:52

Little one mum, yes I was on Sept 07 thread but was not very good at keeping up.

Was up all last night thinking I was going to be sick, seem to be walking about with a constant sick feeling in my throat. Of on holiday just now but not looking forward to work on Monday.

How are you all feeling about telling others. We told our parents although the reaction from in laws upset me. FIL said congrats and walked out room and MIL asked if it was planned. Our siblings know too, just seems to spiral so fast

Meanbeansmum · 15/09/2009 12:56

Hi to all the newbies, congrats!

I've only not been on here for a day and there's pages and pages of posts! LOL.

I'm ok here, 5+3 and feeling ok, wondering when I'm going to get sick to be honest, worries me a bit!

sweetkitty · 15/09/2009 13:23

Heffa - if I were not a vegetarian I would happily eat salami and parma ham, the reason being although they are not cooked they are highly salted and dry cured, I have seen the data and Listeria will not survive on them too salty. IME fruit and veg are the worst things for Listeria and we are told to eat loads of them in pregnancy.

At least chocolate is fine, although it can contain Salmonella but we will gloss over that

I think sometimes maybe pregnant women should just eat canned food adn be done with it.

Speaking of which I am feeling very green at the moment.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 15/09/2009 13:48

Thanks SK I'll tuck in then!

Interesting to hear about thiamin.

MummytoEli · 15/09/2009 14:09

Thankyou everyone for ur well wishes, thursday cant come soon enough xxx

Hobnobfanatic · 15/09/2009 14:17

Lizzie9442 - I think the 8-week thing is when your second period would take place. I think I'm right in saying that you have a higher chance of having a miscarriage at 4,8, and 12 weeks - the times when you'd normally menstruate. Perhaps the body just goes into 'period' mode, unless the pregnancy hormones are strong enough to ward them off.

Not a very scientific explanation, I know - but I can't remember the exact reasons!
