Fiziwizzle, I think I've felt flutters but then again I could just be imagining it as I'm so desperate to feel something and the flutters I fee are so faint.

Changing the subject slightly...I've been going through a lot of stress at work recently and have felt a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders - yesterday I was having a good hormonal cry about it all and I felt the whole area seize up and now I can hardly move my neck. It hurts to move from side to side, I can't move it up and down either. I've got a doctor's appointment today to see what it is, as I went to bed with the pain at 6pm last night but didn't sleep much and every time I moved in my sleep (when I did sleep) I woke up with a shriek of pain (poor DH). I don't have a fever or headache. DH tried massaging and he rubbed arnica all over it but nothing has alleviated it.

Feeling very pathetic, but I am emailing my manager to tell her I'm taking the day off today - I'm just checking my emails now and then I'm going back to bed.

Have a good day everyone.

mawbroon · 27/08/2009 07:53

fiziwizzle - I wasn't sure that I could feel my ds moving until about 18 weeks, but once I was sure what it felt like, I could then say that I had been feeling it from about 14 weeks, IYSWIM

I felt this one very early (about 12weeks) but firstly, I know what it feels like, and econdly, at the scan the other day, my baby measured 10cms which is the average size for a 15wk old foetus.

I am sure you will feels yours soon.

mawbroon · 27/08/2009 07:55

flyingcloud - that doesn't sound a lot of fun. I hope that the doc can help you.

Do you think it's muscular or joints? Do you think an osteopath might be able to do something for you?

I hope it rights itself soon. Look after yourself.

ktpie · 27/08/2009 10:01

Pops - my bump doesn't seem all that big either but they got the tape measure out on Tuesday and measured me up (always feel like I am being fitted for curtains or something when they do that) and the measurements were spot on. Ask if you are worried.

Fiziwizzle - with DS I didn't feel anything for ages, with this one I started feeling movements a while ago but haven't been feeling much recently. Think it changes as your uterus expands and baby gets more room and then baby grows and has less space if you see what I mean.

Flyingcloud - Hope the doctors appointment goes well. Sounds horrible and painful.

Hi everyone else!

fiziwizzle · 27/08/2009 10:37

Flyingcloud - I had that once - the doctor called it a 'rye neck' (or wry neck, he didn't write it down!) and I had to take very strong painkillers for a couple of days until it relaxed. It was muscular and caused by stress. I guess that's not much help to you as you won't be able to take the painkillers.....

Take it easy if you can, and take tomorrow off too (if you can).

esselle · 27/08/2009 14:22

flyingcloud I had this exact problem last week, it was horrible. My whole left shoulder and neck seized up. Thankfully I have an amazing Chiropracter who I could see quickly and he sorted me out with just one visit. I would recommend him to you but I don't suppose Melbourne in local to you!

He is actually a pediatric Chiro/Osteopath, very gentle and not at all a bone cruncher. He really sorted my DS out when he was 4wks old and not feeding well.

Anyway I hope you manage to get sorted out because it is a bloody misery!!

Hi all, I'm ready to join. I was here ages ago but I went because the list was huge, there was loads of people and I was worrying because MC'd in April.

So now it's the 2nd trimester. I'm one of the last due. Can't wait to have this babba. It's my 2nd- I have a DS of 15 months.

Can't tell work I'm pregnant as I'm a contractor and waiting to sign my contract for this year. But I'm getting a bump now and I think they know.

I've felt flutters from early on and now I feel little bumping feelings inside. Especially when they push on it for the heartbeat.

Got headaches, still got sickness and I'm exhausted all the time.

Looking forward to going through it with you all.

Is anyone else having a homebirth?

fiziwizzle · 27/08/2009 17:41

I'm planning a homebirth - the MW seemed totally unfazed when I asked her - Oh yes we'll book you in at 36 weeks. Fingers crossed no complications and I can have it at home.

I think I felt my first flutter today!!! More like a 'blip' than a flutter, but I haven't felt anything like it before, so I am hoping it is. I've already had a few people tell me it's too early (16+3) But I know I felt something....

mawbroon · 27/08/2009 18:05

I would love a homebirth, but with a previous section and a heart shaped uterus, I'll be surprised if I even have a VBAC, never mind one at home!

Ah well, such is life...

LovelyMonster · 27/08/2009 18:34

Hi all,

Im hoping for a homebirth too. Feel very excited about it.

No movements for me yet. Although I have been experiencing a lot of terrible headaches. Have been getting them for the last two weeks and there seems to be no particular pattern, and i am trying to drink lots. Midwife yesterday said my bp and urinalysis were fine so not likely to be preeclampsia. Maybe this is my payback for not having any morning sickness?

Anyone else experiencing this?

raindroprhyme · 27/08/2009 19:05

i am having a homebirth too.

nice their are a few of us.

there is a first time homebirthers thread in child birth if any one is interested. Save clogging up here about specific home birth stuff.

i have started putting a homebirth box together alread not that i am excited or anything.

2Happy · 27/08/2009 19:24

Sorry, mawbroon, I must seem v rude, totally forgot to reply to your v v kind offer. dsis says she has a bunch of clothes she's not got rid of yet, so will rummage there first (though will need to let all the hems down first ); but will let you know if I don't find anything! Thanks x

chinook · 27/08/2009 19:34

I have considered a homebirth but think my aim is now a water birth in hospital or birthing centre. Has anyone here had a water birth? How did you find it?

Saw the midwife today and heard a lovely strong heartbeat. It was very reassuring. I didn't get measured though. My next appointment isn't until I am 28 weeks in November, which seems forever away.

Esselle - I get so envious when you say you are down under. It has been a really miserable summer here and I just can't imagine your summer in Melbourne will be anything but gorgeous. I grew up in Southern Africa and still really miss the outdoors lifestyle.

Pops78 · 27/08/2009 20:56

Chinook - as a first timer I don't want to be naive about level of pain I can take. I have no prob in having relief if I need it but my goal is also waterbirth in hospital. Mw told me they don't let u get in water till 5cm which seems could potentially be a long time without comfort of water.
Told my boss today and he was very nice about it allthough a bit surprised :-)Ktpie - thx for your reassurance, bump a bit bigger today sure your right but I am hoping gp will say all ok tomorrow. X x

chinook · 27/08/2009 21:18

Pops78 - I managed to do it with only gas and air last time, and was 7cm by the time I got to hospital. I think doing up to 5 cm by yourself is very achievable so you should be fine to wait until then to get in the pool. The relief when you get in is supposed to make the wait well worth while!

elebereth · 27/08/2009 21:19

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied, finally a due date buddy! I have been feeling something too, not often though, some strange "unsettled" feeling in my tummy, I am sure it is the baby getting comfy It is my first though, so midwife said I can't possibly feel anything until 20-22 weeks, but the baby will be huge then, surely you will feel a 25cm long being in your own abdomen then! I had a cold, still a bit sick, but not too bad now . Could not use anything to unblock my nose, so I had to sleep on my back, which made me snore ( and upset my husband ) and then I woke up with sore back and pinched nerve in my backside. Not good when you have to work standing up all day! And then I got strange cramp-like feelings in my tummy and it freaked me out. I suspect I got them because I had to blow my nose too much . That's it from me. I hope all of you girls feel great!

esselle · 28/08/2009 04:48

chinook To be honest I am really not looking forward to summer. We are in the midst of a long dry drought and there are predictions of a very hot dry summer. Which also means a higher risk of bushfires. If it is any consolation I lived in London for 10yrs so I have had my fair share of crappy British summers!

We had temps of 45C last Feb - I really hope to not have any of those again while I'm pregnant. Will suck having a newborn in those temps too. I will just have to crank up the air con and stay in!

I have absolutely no plans to have a home birth. The drugs are at the hospital so that is where I will be!!

I am finding that with this being my 3rd I am probably a bit more nervous than the others. I know what to expect and I generally know alot more about the whole precess. Freaking myself out about what can go wrong is not a good idea. I wish I had the blissful ignorance that surrounded me when I had DD!

ktpie · 28/08/2009 08:39

Morning everyone,

No homebirth here, think I said it before but the birth of DS was fairly stressed, they tried to send me home while I was in labour, don't like to think what would have happened if I'd listened to them and come home. DS needed pretty much dragging out and his heart rate was dropping all the time, don't know that at home they would have had the equipment to get him out, that is if we had even had anyone else there at that point.
I wanted a water birth as well but they wouldn't let me again because they didn't think I was in labour, then when they finally realised I was they also realised the baby was in distress so I needed constant monitoring in the doctor led unit, no pools there. He was fine by the way!
Part of my problem was that I had irregular contractions throughout, that was why they didn't think I was in labour, if it wasn't for the fact that my mum and my best friend both had irregular contractions throughout their labours I would have believed them and gone home. Also the midwife didn't think I was in enough pain
Sorry to rabbit on and I don't want to put people off home births, think I had a fairly unusual experience of labour!

Just ordered some maternity clothes from Blooming Marvellous, they have a sale on at the moment, not much left but I've bought a pile of t-shirts and vest tops for £2-3 each, planning on layering with other stuff over the winter.

flyingcloud · 28/08/2009 09:01

Thanks Mawbroon, fiziwizzle and esselle - I am feeling marginally better today, although I woke up a lot during the night - whenever I moved. The doctor didn't tell me much, just said that as he can't give me anti-inflammatories I would have to wear a neck-brace until it got better! I am planning on going to see a chiropractor early next week. I think it is what you had fiziwizzle - I know when the odd muscle goes into spasm I can usually deal with it but this feels like the whole neck and shoulder area. Such a wimp!

Anyway, as you can see I am a wimp about pain and it seems I am becoming fully assimilated into the French hypochondriac culture - so as it's my first I will be having my baby in hospital and I am not going to make any committments re pain relief or lack thereof until I get a lot closer to my due date. However I think they might try and section me if I said I didn't want an epidural as here it is very much par for the course.

The good thing about here is I will get my own room in hospital and as it's my first I think it's five(?) days in hospital. You won't here any complaints from me there.

fiziwizzle · 28/08/2009 11:03

Five days in hospital in France? Wow. An aquaintance recently gave birth to her first here in Hastings - she is tiny and the baby was 9lb - she was ripped to shreds and had loads of stiches and was completely shellshocked. She had him in the morning, and they sent her home that afternoon. I couldn't believe it. I think I'd have refused to go

fiziwizzle · 28/08/2009 11:05

LovelyMonster - I wake up with a headache most mornings that only goes when I drink tons of water. I'm not dehydrated, or don't think I am, I have a cup of cocoa every night before bed (and have to get up in the night as a consequence - sigh) and drink plenty of water. I've read that it's caused by progesterone. I didn't have MS either. I've had them for about four weeks now.

threeplusone · 28/08/2009 12:21

Elebereth, you can use a decongestant nose spray for your congestion - one containing oxymetazoline or xylometazoline is fine as it works locally (ie on the nose) to shrink all the blood vessels, and isn't absorbed into the body. So no chance of problems with the baby.

I used one last week as I was suffering with terrible headaches that I thought were congestion related. You need to stick to the usual dosing - one puff per nostril twice a day, for a maximum of five days. You can trust me, I'm a pharmacist!

I've also been geting headaches, and it's definitely related to how much I drink. I also have to be careful over eating - I've been caught short and got dizzy and faint a few times now (twice yesterday!).

Very brave you home birth types. I had a hideous time last time (induction, extremely long second stage, ventouse, third degree tear which tore again a few weeks later), so am on an elective section this time.

Having said that, one of my friends has had a waterbirth and said it was amazing. And there's nothing to stop you labouring at home in a bath before you go in to hospital or a birthing centre and go into the birthing pool - lots of my friends have done that.
