mawbroon · 19/08/2009 13:35

Hi all. I have my first ever toothache today. My tooth has been niggling for a while and the dentist wants to do root canal treatment, but because it wasn't bothering me too much, we were going to wait until the baby was born.

But last night, I ate some ice cream, and it's still throbbing some 20hrs later. I am going to dentist tomorrow and in the meantime, all I can take is a couple of piddly paracetemols.

Anybody had root canal done? Is it as bad as it sounds?

Pops78 · 19/08/2009 13:36

Fiziwizzle - I know exactly what you mean about bump growing throughout day. It's weird, must be because we're eating perhaps! Don't want to speak too soon but I think at 14+4 I am now basically over MS - thank god. Haven't felt nauseous for 3-4 days and am eating loads now, though still a bit picky with what foods. It's just amazing to feel pretty normal again as it just felt like it would never end(sorry to any still feeling bad). I have another dating scan at my new hospital on Friday so am hoping all will still be well. Great to see baby again but those nervous feeling just naturally creep back in again. Have put myself on list here:

I am still in my normal clothes, but we were swimming last night and DS commented that I had put on weight. When I pointed out that I was pregnant and my boobs had gone up two sizes, he kind of conceded that it was par for the course. Blokes eh?

hannahsaunt · 19/08/2009 13:58

Now that everyone who needs to know, knows I may venture in. I'm ~13+1 with db4 but haven't had my 12 wk scan yet as my community booking was done when I was in hospital with hyperemesis and they (hosp) forgot that they were meant to arrange it. Still quite sick and on lots of meds; signed off work for a while not least because tiredness affects the sickness and dh is away for the next three months.

Hello! Marking my place. I am 15+5 today and think I am due 3rd February although the doctor who scanned me said not to get too hung up on due dates! Said little one could come anytime from the end of January. I know here in France they give you a 42 week gestation (and then another two weeks before they induce you if you go over).

I am enjoying the second trimester! Although had a frantic four days of work from Thursday through Sunday (involving lots of client entertainment and late nights) and I thought I was going to die at the end of each day from sheer exhaustion. Other than that I am now nap-free and sickness free. I have a huge bump (and it's my first!) that definitely grows during the day. I am very visibly pregnant and people have commented on it over the last week quite a lot.

Hello everyone,

My MS seems to be easing off and I'm not quite as tired as I was. Getting to that lovely stage where my belly just looks fat rather than pregnant. Last time I reached this stage just after christmas, which was unfortunate time, looked like I had had one too many mince pies.
Keep having to undo my jeans and belt when I sit down, then I stand up and they fall down.

Better add myself to the new list:

Ktpie - a tip, loop a hair band round your jeans button and through the buttonhole. Keeps them up but gives the tum more room!

My 1st, 15+5 today and due Feb 3rd. MS eased at week 14 and I actually forgot I was pregnant for a bit. Then glanced at the mirror and was surprised at this bump I wasn't expecting to see That was a strange sensation!

I've told my boss and HR. As for the rest, I'm waiting to see when would ppl actually start asking. I think I'm showing but I work with a lot of guys so I'm guessing that they're not very observant. Now starting to wonder if I'll reach 5 months without any questions.

Welcome to the newbies. We have really swelled in numbers recently, which is lovely. Though I am a bit confused as two of you have said today that you are 15+5 and due on the 3rd. I think I am 15+5 and due on the 5th! I know it doesn't really matter. It's my birthday on 4th Feb so I am bound to spend it in labour anyway.

Mawbroon-never had root canal work done but a friend had some heavy duty dental work done last year when she was preg. I am sure she was allowed all the usual painkillers and injections and she said it was fine. I have also gone up 2 bra sizes and dh commented today that that was a step in the right direction, but there was room for improvement. Don't you just love 'em....

I am getting envious now that you all seem to be feeling better. I did have ms for 7 months though with dd so I think it will be a while for me yet. I too have a bump which expands through the day. It is not that big yet and I actually feel quite uncomfortable 'inside' as if the baby is already squashing my organs up. I can only eat really small light meals as there is no room for anything else. Am hoping it keeps the weight gain down if nothing else.

devotion · 19/08/2009 21:00

good evening!

there are still lots of us missing so hopefully they will check in soon.

i am 17 weeks today and the sickness has really eased - thank God! but not totally gone.

i am still overwhelmed by the tiredness and everytime i do something like wash the dishes i need a rest??? i am usually like a bee going all day so its driving me mad. feel like my home is a mess the whole time but hopefully this wont be for long. from now on is my favourite part of pregnancy. i am starting to look pregnant and i had a few smiles from people today.

its funny how people always smile at you when they walk past when you are pregnant - i forgot that, its nice

i'm only 17 weeks but all i do all day is think about what my birth will be like, how i want it, what the baby will look like etc... am i mad?

Hello, lovely ladies, may I join your group? I have been reading the posts for a while now, and now decided to introduce myself. I am 13w+2 days pregnant with our first child, after 2 miscarriages. I can't fit in any of my clothes anymore and my belly is much larger in the evenings . My EDD 24/02/10. I hope you are all well!

That's my Mum's birthday Elebereth!

Thanks Oldestcat, I'll see if that helps.

Devotion - my house is a tip, well it was, I'm managing to get on top of it a bit more now, I'm like you, I do one thing then have to go and sit down. In fact if we have a lot of washing up to do I feel lightheaded by the end and sometimes have to leave it before I faint, I don't know why, maybe it's from standing over the hot sink? Good excuse if DH is about! I remember it happening last pregnancy too.
I am rubbish at being pregnant!

Pops78 · 20/08/2009 12:49

Hi All,

I just ate 3/4 of a pot of Haagen Dazs. Feel very guilty. After weeks of not gaining any weight and not being able to eat I have now put on 4lbs in 3 days. I think its good as long as I don't go mad and pile it all on crazily now, got so long left to go of this... Even though I have a little bump now, the lack of symptoms stupidly makes me question that I am pg and all still well.

Devotion - I know what you mean about thinking about birth all day but I am not thinking about pain bizarely jusy meeting my baby.

For those who have been on here since early on you may remember Bettymum who unfortunately lost her little bean. Thought you might like to know I just came across her on Due April 2010 and sent congrats!!

devotion · 20/08/2009 13:16

Pops78 - thats great news about Bettymum. thanks for telling us

Pops78, its funny because i have not been thinking about the pain either. i am totally ready for it and not nervous at all. watching all those birth videos on you tube has really got me feeling ready.

i dont want to wish my life away but my due date seems so far away.

just can not wait to hold my little baby

Dont worry about the ice-cream binge, we all do it! Plus you obviously had some catching up to do!!!

esselle · 20/08/2009 14:19

pops78 Ice cream is made with cream which contains calcium and therefore practically a health food!!

grin · 20/08/2009 14:27

Hello! A new girl to this gang. I am 15+4 and due 7th Feb so far. Have a gorgeous toddler who is 2 and a half and is nice to be in the company of other preggos as preg as myself! elebereth - many congratulations!
Re the pain thing - well see take comfort from the fact that some of us have had babies before and atill chose to do it all again, so it must all be worth it (it is)

Oh shall I do that copy and pasty date thing...hang on...

midnightsun · 20/08/2009 14:29

Hello I am adding myself to the due date list for the first time, although I have posted once before. My GP calculated me as due on 20th Feb but at my scan I was put forward from 12+1 to 12+6 and 13th Feb. Not sure where the extra 2 days came from but I'll take it with thanks until my next scan. :-)

Compared to my first pregnancy 3 yrs ago I have been DOG tired but a bit less nauseous, thank goodness. With nothing to hold back my appetite and a lot less activity, however, I have gained 5kg in 3 months. My book says the baby currently weighs no more than 50 grams so I have gained 100 times its bodyweight merely through coke, cakes, crisps and the couch. Good-oh!

Last night I packed all my size 10-12 clothes away for the loft and my wardrobe is now sparsely furnished with some musty smelling maternity clothes I have retrieved and a few billowy tunics bought recently as emergency measures when I was still trying to be pregnant in secrecy. I wish blouses and tunics had been in fashion 3 years ago as all my old maternity tops are skin-tight, too-short t shirts!

My belly is SO much comfier in maternity clothes though, and I have also given in to massive "full brief" knickers which I didn't do last time, instead stubbornly persisting with tiny but uncomfortable g-strings.

I told my 3 year old yesterday that we are probably going to have a new little baby join our family after Christmas and that it is currently very tiny and in my tummy busy growing. He was quite happy and matter of fact then suddenly looked puzzled and said "How will it get out though, Mummy, there's no hole!" Shriek. Indeed. Fortunately he was satisfied with the answer that the doctor will help it get out and left it at that.

Oh and Mawbroon I had fairly major dental work last pregnancy with no pain relief - think the root had died so it wasn't as painful as it could've been but I'd been going to preg yoga and have to say the breathing worked wonders! The dentist was very complimentary and said there was no way a man could've coped with the pain (and he was a man), and I just told him it was good practise for labour! Definitely breathing and the promise of a treat afterwards.

mawbroon I haven't had root canal but I had a couple of fillings when 5 months pregnant last time. I said I'd do it without anaesthetic but immediately changed my mind when she started drilling! The local anaesthetic injections were perfectly safe and had no effect on me or baby. She actually even did x-rays, just put a lead apron over my belly and said it's so low level and after the first trimester she didn't consider it to be any risk.

After the baby was born I had two wisdom teeth extracted with local anaesthetic and can honestly compare the relief that came with those injections to the exact same rush of "oh thank the sweet lord for that" which comes with an epidural. Well worth it.
