Not sure I am any more qualified, frankly, but hey ho!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mawbroon · 24/08/2009 16:34

2Happy, various pals who are finished with their maternity gear have dumped given it to me. If you want to have a rummage, I could leave stuff with your sister if you like. I can't remember how tall you are? A bit taller than my huge 5ft 1inch probably!!

Pops78 · 24/08/2009 16:43

Hi Everyone,

Lots of good news. Flyingcloud - I totally know what you ean about skin though. Have had a rash across my forehead for 5 weeks that just looks like bad acne. And now in last few days have broken out in spots all over the rest of my face like teenager!

Have had a terrible headache all day today, typical that just as MS eases off I get another symptom.

I can't stop eating now, have stuffed my face today.

This might sound a bit silly but does anybody know if past 12 wks the babies are growing at different rates now in size. It's just that when I had a scan on Fri at 15 wks baby again barely moved and was only 9.3cm. I just read about Mawbroon's baby being 10cm (so pleased your scan was good) but that means her baby is bigger than mine though 13 days younger. Juts worried me a bit I suppose sonographer would have said if something wrong with growth. Miss Paro strikes again...

mawbroon · 24/08/2009 16:52

Pops, I always thought that they all grew at the same rate in a window of something like 10 -13 weeks (I'm guessing here at the no of weeks) but my sister was saying today that her dd was 8cm at her scan, so I am guessing that there's more to it than just the length of the baby.

I am pretty sure that you would have been told if there was any problem. I might have a google later on to find something that tells me more specifically. Perhaps it might be something to do with head size, rather than length? Or the ratio, or something..

I tell you what though, they were spot on with the dates!! From my LMP, they were saying 1st march, but that is based on ovulating on day 14. I know I ovulated on day 12, so the scan EDD of 27th Feb is exactly right!!

Pops78 · 24/08/2009 17:00

Mawbroon - Thanks for your response, maybe your right, they did spend a long time measuring the head over and over on Fri so perhaps that is more to do with the way they determine it. I am really confused because they said the baby weighed 5 oz but in my book it says they should still weigh only 2oz at this stage. I am over examining things I know but they spent ages going over things on Fri and weren't really telling me what was going on so it did freak me out a bit... but at the end they did say all was well so far so I should trust that shouldn't I :-)

skibelle · 24/08/2009 18:33

Hi Pops,

Just a quick one to reassure...

At my 12 week scan (or just under) CRL was 5cm for me, which the lady said was absolutely fine. I think Mawbroon's 10cm at this stage is quite long, so I wouldn't worry! I found this www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/fetaldevelopment/chart/ which confirms your length as being 'normal' -whatever that is! It also says 5oz at 17 weeks, which is not that far off, in the grand scheme of things.

Panic not!

Pops78 · 24/08/2009 19:13

Thanks very much skibelle, must stop panicing... it's not good for me or baby but I think we all do it in varying degrees don't we!

chinook · 24/08/2009 19:55

Mawbroon - excellent news that your scan went well. Think that is everyone successfully scanned now isn't it?

Pops78 - I was at the gp today and he said it was fine to take codeine at this stage of pregnancy. I have been getting loads of headaches and migraines and paracetamol just doesn't touch them.

So envious of you all with your chocolate cravings. Chocolate can give me a migraine so I haven't had any for 16 years. I normally substitute it with yoghurt raisins or haribos but I haven't wanted to eat anything sweet for weeks now. I can never remember whether craving savoury things is supposed to mean you are carrying a boy or a girl. Does anyone know?

esselle · 25/08/2009 03:18

Chinook I have found that when I was pregnant with DD I craved savoury food, couldn't stand anything sweet and had pretty awful MS.

When I was pregnant with DS I craved sweets, chocolate and any food that I could fit in my mouth. I had a couple of episodes of MS but nothing too bad.

This pregnancy I have craved sweets/choc again and been eating like a horse. Have had absolutely no MS - so I am thinking that this may be another DS.

We have decided that we aren't going to find out the sex of this baby at the scan so we can have a surprise at the birth. My theory will be confirmed or rubbished in Feb!

motherof2boys · 25/08/2009 14:14

Chinook - I haven't eaten chocolate for 14 years for the same reason!!! Glad to hear of someone else at last.

Had 16 wk appt yesterday and heard heart bashing away. Due on 4th Feb but unfortunately someone spilt juice on my laptop and diff to cut and paste onto list as keys sticking.

I haven't been able to drink cold milk with 3 prev pgs (all Dss) (cereal etc coming right back out for 9months) but with this one absolutely going for it - 2 or 3 big dishes a day... a girl???? just hope OK. Will find out Sept.....

watercress · 25/08/2009 15:06

There are lots of us now! How exciting!

There seems to be a general feeling of betterness, which is good. Interesting to read about the cravings and whether it's linked to gender. Nothing of note to report here though...

Are many people planning to find out the sex at the next scan? I know some places won't tell you, but my hospital will so we are planning to (cooperation from LO depending) as we did last time.

Sounds like all the scans and checks are going OK too, which is fab news.

On, and motherof2boys I've added you to the list.

Glynnispig · 25/08/2009 15:55

Hello all,

My headaches seemed to have faded a bit, just tired now, although lots more energy than before!

Glad to hear all the scans have gone well. Have my mw appt next fri, cant wait to hear the heartbeat!

We are definately going to find out the sex if we can, my dp cant wait! He was sure he wanted a boy but the other day said how nice it would be to have a girl

Hope all well,

x x

mawbroon · 25/08/2009 17:00

Yes, I will want to find out the sex if the baby is co-operative. I found out with ds, and I really enjoyed knowing.

motherof2boys · 25/08/2009 17:18

thanks for adding me watercress.

The sex was really clear to the naked eye with DS1 and we loved knowing; so we found out with DS2 too.

I think it will help the DSs to know the sex.

Our hospital says that they have a policy of not telling you but I don't know anyone who hasn't found out who wanted to!!!

grin · 25/08/2009 19:26

It's really interesting so many of you are keen to find out the sex. Me and dh can't decide. We didn't find out with our DS and I liked the not knowing, but he (ds) is absolutely convinced it is a girl, so we don't know whether to find out to prepare him if we need to! What do you reckon?

hannahsaunt · 25/08/2009 19:39

I had my scan today - 14 weeks by LMP dates but clearly measuring 15 weeks by all areas so my EDD has been moved so have updated list:

Hospital here won't tell now (did with first two) but let dh have a good nosy in the relevant area at the appropriate time with ds3 so if he can make it back for the 20wk scan then I'll be asking the same again.

Still signed off sick and having a mix of good days and bad days. At least stopping the folic acid means one fewer tablet to take each day .

chinook · 25/08/2009 20:51

grin-I am in the same position. Dp really wants to find out and I don't. He and dd both really want a girl so I think if we do find out and it is a boy they have plenty of time to get used to the idea. I think I shall use it as a bargaining tool ie. We can find out what the sex is if you (finally) finish off our new bathroom!

grin · 25/08/2009 22:22

chinook - liking your bargaining idea, funny we have a half finished bathroom too! But dh is not desperate to know, just curios, so I don't think it would work. Do you think you will find out? We still have a few weeks to decide!

ktpie · 26/08/2009 14:40

Hello everyone,

Saw the MW yesterday, everything was fine, next appointment isn't until October, round here they have really cut down the frequency of MW appointments since last year.

We won't find out the sex, I kind of like the mystery!

Hope you are all well today!

Pops78 · 26/08/2009 16:09

Hello All,

ktpie - glad your MW app went well. I am surprised that so many want to know sex. My DP says no one finds out anymore - clearly he is soooo wrong.

I am sure others have mentioned this on here but cannot recall who. Last week I suddenly had a significant bump. Now slowly I feel it has been getting less, is this normal? When I got pregnant I lost 8lbs through MS in my 7th week and now have still only put 2lbs of that back on, even though I have been stuffing my face the last week. Should I be worried, I have my 16wk GP appointment on Fri do I need to raise these concerns. Sorry to be selfish in my post going on about more paro stuff. Thanks for any feedback.

watercress · 26/08/2009 16:23

Pops78, I think it's normal for bumpsize to go up and down at this stage - at the moment, the bump isn't baby, it's organs moving up to make room for the growing uterus (and baby!), so size will depend on meals, fluids, wind (sorry) etc. And I know that my size alters according to how tired I am (posture much worse later in the day), what I've eaten and drunk, what I'm wearing...

But as you've got an appointment, you may as well ask. Though if you hear the heartbeat (still not a certainty at 16 weeks), you'll probably stop worrying anyway!

And you're not being selfish, that's what this thread is about - airing concerns and voicing opinions with people going through the same thing as you at the same time. So don't worry.

Ooh, I sound a bit militant. Sorry about that x

Pops78 · 26/08/2009 17:38

Hi Watercress, Thanks very much for that, incredibly reassuring. I am going in to tell my boss tomorrow, and am nervous...

2Happy · 26/08/2009 19:02

We're not going to find out the sex. We didn't with ds1, but did with ds2. But we were told he was a girl (by 2 sonographers too!), so this time round, if they said boy, we wouldn't be surprised, and if they said girl we wouldn't believe them so what's the point?!

Gert · 26/08/2009 20:31

Hello!

I'm altogether new to MN...can I join you? 14+4 today with my second, with one fab little boy who's 22 months. Think that puts me about here...

fiziwizzle · 26/08/2009 21:49

Have any first timers felt their baby 'flutter' yet? I know it's early days (I'm 16+3) but baby's meant to measure 11cm now and how can I have that wriggling around in my tummy and not feel it?! I know that it is wriggling as MW pointed out the whooshing sounds as movement when she listened to the heartbeat.

I've tried lying still and giving my tummy a prod, any other tips (or do I just have to be patient )
