Thanks girls, for letting me start this thread - bloody MACs (obviously could be user error!)

Went to the docs yesterday and he thinks may be a Feb 1st baby - but 2nd babies are often early - hope they are as dd was 9 days late - hence I am in the Oct rather than Sept post-natal thread!

Hope to hear from the midwife soon as I will want to book a CVS as I am now 38 - had one with dd last year.

Has anyone got a closer age difference that I will hopefully have - there will only be nearly 16 months between dd and dd2/ds - eeeek!

Welcome to all the other newies

I "knew" with DS, hadn't even occurred to me he'd be a girl! Would have been extremely surprised to have had a DD! Even found the idea I was carrying a girl a bit unpleasant when pg with him (no offence intended to anyone with a DD - and after all, I'm a girl myself, so can only blame "pg with a boy" hormones!!!).

Can't understand why I was so freaked by the idea of having a girl last time - I'm not this time. So I wonder...

But I'm not going to find out - DH doesn't want to either, so no arguments there!

Am also finding myself surprisingly drawn to girls' clothes, which made me feel almost nauseous when pg with DS (really was very strange!). But not sure if that's because I already have bundles of boys' clothes!

It's funny - I never want to find out what I'm having, but I love it if other people do and I can look forward to what they're having. I'm very peculiar when it comes to pg, obviously!!

I'll find out soon enough anyway

But if it's true you feel worse with a girl, then that's what I'm having - have felt SO sick today but too because I am comforted by having pg hormones to make me feel sick iyswim!

Am going to stop rambling now - honestly, when asked "Are you going to find out what you're having?" most normal people say "yes" or "no"

Chuffed · 10/06/2005 14:01

I really thought dd was going to be a ds. It was the shock to both dh and I in theater when they said 'you've got a beautiful daughter' we both looked at each other. Most of the reasons we thought that were old wives tales but the 'carrying only out front basketball', no morning sickness.

I'm quite sad too dh won't be at my official sign in and scan at the hospital on 29th June. Just phoned them and they have no record of me and have booked me in then. The good news is I will definately be between 11-13.4wks which means they do a nuchal scan as standard at the same time.

Spoke to dh at lunch time and he is pretty gutted he won't be there but not a lot he can do, he has a big management conference in New York (again) and has to be there and the next appointment the hospital could give me was after 8th July.

horseshoe · 10/06/2005 14:13

Thats a shamed Chuffed. Maybe you could have a private scan especially for him. i dont know how much they cost though.

HM I'm opposite, feeling drawn to Boys stuff this time round although convinced DD was a boy until told differently.

I dont mind though but if I have a girl it will be good cause I can keep on having babies. Me and DP have decided to stop if we get one of each. Although accidents do happen I guess

hunkermunker · 10/06/2005 15:29

Horseshoe, we've decided the same Not sure if I'd cope with more than two though! Not sure I can cope with one some days!

Just rang the hospital and they said that 10 weeks is fine for a scan, so looks like it will be done in the week beginning the 20th June! Wow! Not long at all!

Am SO looking forward to seeing this baby - think I may have mentioned that...

Eshay · 10/06/2005 17:48

Hi all, I'm happy to report all is going well here. No more infections and sudden fevers. DH is able tohelp me with ds again so I'm feeling much better too.

At my hopsital they do the nuchal fold scan but I haven't received a letter yet so I have no idea when my scan will be.

It seems that for now I'm the only one here who definitely wants to know the sex of bub2. We knew with ds and for me that made bonding with the bump a lot easier. Also, we are crap at choosing names so knowing will halve that task.

Can I be slightly controversial here and say that I would prefer to have another boy? I just think that two of the same sex might be more fun for the kids themselves and obviously I already have all the clothes. Don't get me wrong, if it turns out to be a girl I would be really excited as well, especially since I can then go out and buy girlie clothes - they're sooo cute! I guess I just never played with my brother much so my opinion is probably based on that and completely without grounds.

GeorgieM · 11/06/2005 18:49

Hi there. Seems as if I've logged on at the right moment! I shall add my two-penny-worth.... dp and I are def going to find out what flavour this bean is. Not one for suprises! Found out with dd. Kind of hoping for a boy as dd will then always be my special little girl.

Horseshoe, am really sorry that your sis is beig a tad insensitive. Not really a topic of conversation to bring up around a pg woman. Is she jealous at all?

Mumfun - would love to meet up. As you say, always nice to make new friends. I'm in Wimbledon Village, so maybe if weather nice we could go to some swings. Not sure which park in the middle, but let me know. Do you have other children? Have got DD who is nearly 4. And would love to know more about NCT.

Eshay - fantastic news about dh. Am glad things are looking up for you and your family.

Am really glad that we're all getting thru that dodgy first trimester. Am kind of getting worried about 2nd trimester as will have to have stitch in cervix at 13/14 weeks. Chance of miscarriage....then prob some form of bed rest from 26-36 weeks....which will be interesting with DD!

Right, time to drag DD away from Storymakers and into the shower.

Have a good weekend everyone.

PS - 10 years in PR and I come up with the most unoriginal log-on name on the whole website!.... my mum always said I was bad at keeping secrets!

lyra41 · 11/06/2005 21:44

Hi Mumfun

Glad to hear I'm not alone in my (ahem) maturity of years (still feel 18 inside though! [Wish I still looked it!!])

I am getting increasingly anxious about the CVS test on Monday. I will definitely find out the sex - I've always been hopeless at waiting for anything and it will make the name game that much easier. I'm hoping for a boy this time. My eldest is a ds, age 12 and next comes dd, aged 9. I obviously don't prefer one above the other, but must admit that I find my son a lot less complicated to relate to. I adore my complicated emotional daughter however, so I'll be pleased with whoever's in there I'm sure.

My ms seems to abating now, although I find that if I overdo it, it definitely returns in the evening.

Speaking of which, time to lie down I think. Will let you know how the CVS goes.

spangles · 12/06/2005 18:10

Hello everyone
Hope your all feeling well and coping with the MS.
I go back to hospital tomorrow to see consultant and am hoping for a mini scan (my conultant usually does this for reassurance). I am going to ask consultant if he feels its neccesary for me to consider amnio. I will be 35 in August. I really want to find out the sex of baby number 3 but DH is dead set against it coz he doesnt want to jinx it! Still drinking lucosade and eating lots of crisps and fruit pastel lollies. See you all soon... got to get my dirty boys ready for their bath then I am going to put my feet up and fall asleep on the sofa. cheerio.

Rachey1969 · 13/06/2005 09:04

Hi everyone!

Sorry if I've worried you all by disappearing, I've been at my mum's for a week with no internet access. Can I say that I am so touched to read all your good wishes and concern - it's really given me a warm glow this Monday morning! And I've been up since 4.15! (bladder, nausea, insomnia and mind working overtime about work...)

My dad is still clinging on, very frail and unresponsive but alive. To be honest this is not the outcome we had hoped for, it's a real rollercoaster of emotion (especially when pregnant) and we were all prepared for a final goodbye. However it was fantastic to spend some time with my sister from NZ (first time in 3 yrs) and to meet our new puppy (aw). With my other sister, my mum and my grandma we had some real female bonding.

Spub - I'm gutted to hear what's happened thinking of you today.

Horseshoe - I personally feel like I'm 'tempting fate' when I already have three bright, beautiful, healthy kids but if I lost this much wanted bean (my first with dp) I would be devastated.

Good luck with all the scans - I'm looking forward to mine next week (wed 22nd) when I could be 12 wks (or less prob), special good luck to Lyra41 with the CVS, I'm 36 in July and I don't think I'm rational enough to have any tests or to make any decisions. I'm not sure about finding out the sex... I have 2 ds and 1 dd and would be delighted with either, however we need some logistical planning re bedrooms etc so I think I might ask...

I won't be around now until at least Wednesday night because I'm off to Warrington and Birmingham for work - have emailed manager to prewarn her about my delicate condition! My family were a little guarded in their reactions but happy for me as long as I'm happy! My sister from NZ is a midwife so it was great to get some advice on home births... (did I say that!)

Hope you're all glowing (I've lost my waist!) and ms starts to subside. Talk to you all soon!

Chuffed · 13/06/2005 09:31

Morning - good to have you back Rachey. Had a good weekend - kept busy and sooooo relieved that my nausea has pretty much stayed away although I did have a bit of a dose while in the pool with dd on Sunday am thank goodness it passed, even went to the gym this morning with no probs...yay!!!
Just to add to the family sadness - dh's grandpa has been in hospital for pneumonia due to inhaling food and they have done some investigation and said that he won't be able to eat again and will have to be fed by a tube forever and probably won't ever leave the hospital. MIL has told dh that she doesn't think he will last until we move back to NZ in May06. So we now have to try to plan a trip back to NZ sometime soon, dh's family is really really close and this is going to be quite hard for me to know what to do.

lyra41 · 13/06/2005 16:37

Hi Rachey

Thanks for your good wishes. Was thinking about you at your parents' place, I'm glad that you had good bonding times with your womenfolk. There's nothing quite like the company of women is there?
I'll pray for your dad if you like, it's hard hanging on like this I'm sure. My dad died a year last Feb, and he's never far from my thoughts. He'd come to the end of this road too, we know he didn't have much time left. Mum is still around though, in fact she came with me for the CVS today.

The CVS is over now THANK GOD!!! It wasn't pleasant. The anticipation was the worst bit, and being told they didn't use any local anaesthetic on the belly, they just push the needle straight on through .... Thankfully after lots of scanning and lights down +++ silence and tension, the doctor said, no, I think we'll do this one vaginally. The rest was pretty much like a smear test and not too bad. Was dispappointed that we won't get results for 10 days at least, so more waiting and worrying.

I'm off work for the next day or 2 to try to keep everything settled, as my friend Karen says, I'll keep my legs crossed! No spotting yet and just a few niggly pains, so hopefully all's well.

That's it for today, take good care of yourselves ladies.

Chuffed · 13/06/2005 16:54

lyra take it easy - all the best!!!

GeorgieM · 13/06/2005 19:27

Hi ladies.

Lyra, so glad that the CVS is over and done with. Will keep fingers crossed for results. I really must read up on all these tests as have to make mind up. Will be 35 on Thursday, so am 'of that age'! where it might be wise to educate myself on what's out there.

Rachey - good to hear from you. Am sorry about your Dad. It's got to be tough as hell for you. Do take it easy on your business trip.

Glad everyone else is coping with MS and keeping Lucozade in business! Am currently a HUGE fan of macaroni and cheese.

Am shattered today. A going to collapse in a heap on the couch and stare at the TV for a couple of hours.

Have a good evening one and all.

lyra41 · 14/06/2005 06:15

HI Georgie

I wouldn't have thought 35 was an age to particularly worry about diagnostic testing, but of course everyone feels differently about these things. Your consultant will be able to tell you the statistics for your age - mine are 1 : 50 chance of baby having DS, but yours will be much lower risk. The invasive tests (CVS, amniocentesis) carry a risk of miscarriage, about 1 :100, so that is something to consider. I think if I had been younger I would have been content with non invasive tests such as nuchal fold scanning and serum blood test, which give you a more accurate risk figure based on you and your baby, but as I said before, it's very personal.
As you can see my mind is whirring this morning, and it's only 5:45 or so! Too much to think about I guess, but I have the day off work today, so I'll nap later.
Have been bidding for prams on ebay last night and today, so I must be fairly optimistic. I really want one of those big bouncy old fashioned prams and they're not that easy to come by. That's my excuse for starting looking so early anyway....

GeorgieM · 14/06/2005 11:34

Ilove those old prams! The Silver Cross ones are the best. My granny had one and I have very fond memory's of being rocked to sleep in it at the age of 3 or 4 under her big tree in the garden. Then when I was older I used to push my cousins up and down the road in it!

Thanks for the advice. Think I will stick to nuchal. Seems to offer what I want and as you say, it's non invasive.

Feel v sick again today. Am looking into getting a reflexology appt to try and get rid of this MS (read: all day feeling grim and puking sickness!)

Well, have a lovely day one and all.

MINNIE1 · 15/06/2005 11:06

horseshoe,
Thank you for you message on the dec thread, When is your next scan, i feel more relaxed now and i didnt after the last one! but bubs was jumping around.. thank god thats over i am trying to buy a doopler but i cant get in passwords are all wrong !! but i will get one..

Elly1801 · 15/06/2005 12:30

"HUGE fan of macaroni and cheese" - me too! I CAN'T get enough of cheese. Am currently sitting at work salivating over the thought of old-fashioned-like-my-Mum-used-to-make-it cheese on toast! : )) AND I can't stand the thought of chocolate! Anyone else having taste experiences? [: )]

horseshoe · 15/06/2005 13:32

Hi MINNIE1,

I am so glad that your scan went well. What a relief it is to see your baby finally :-)

My doppler arrived yesterday although it is too early to hear little ones heartbeat. I would be worried if I wasn't feeling so sick.

Greesy food is a no go area at the moment. DP brought MCdonalds home for DD and the smell made me sick. Something I never have problems with as I love my mcdonalds

I haven't even been to see my proper midwife yet as have been at the hospital so I dont even have my 12 week scan booked in. I have an appointment next week when I will be coming up for 10 weeks.

How is everybody else feeling?

MINNIE1 · 15/06/2005 13:49

horseshoe
Delighted your sick its a great sign (in a good way) Your nearly there pet and great you have a doppler really have to sort mine out,.

Chuffed · 15/06/2005 14:02

I'm being faddy at the moment - cheese is a big yes! fruit like strawberries and blueberries, cheese salad sandwich, cocopops, icelollies. the smell of some foods is just hideous isn't it.

Glad the scan went well Minnie - we are being quite quiet lately aren't we.

AngelCakeUmm · 15/06/2005 15:36

Hi all,

I agree about the food thing, i am just eating quite bland food although have been trying to eat more different things lately, but i am loving ice pops also solero lollies, fruit like strawberries and i did go through a stage of eating beetroot!

I want to buy a doppler where did you get it from? Think i will ask if anyone has one they want to sell on here!

Well i got my scan date through today and its 11th july i can't wait i will be about 12-13 weeks then.

Rachey - i am so sorry to hear about your dad, it must be really hard for you {{{hugs}}}.

Glad everyone is ok speak to you all soon.

Elly1801 · 15/06/2005 18:35

Am I just daft - what is a doppler???

I've just got my date through as well - 3rd July for home visit from m/wife and scan on 4th.

Nice talkin to you all. x

lyra41 · 15/06/2005 21:41

Georgie

I won the ebay auction and I'm picking up the pram on Friday! I haven't told dh, as it will take up LOTS of space and probably won't go down that well at this stage. He knows I want one when the baby comes. Hopefully I can store it at my mum's who has lots more room. If I can manage a link, you can see a photo of the pram, here goes...
cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3979506106
I hope it will fit in the car! I've also managed to buy ANOTHER similar pram for my mum to have at her house too. Mad or what. That one is being posted, at a cost of £30, but I got the pram for only £7.50, can't imagine why its so cheap as it looks great on the photo.
I haven't done ebay before, so I have a feeling I'm going to live and learn....
Very tired today. Had a nap at tea time, which helped. Off for a bath now.
My appetite seems to have diminished since I got pg, which is great, as I'm about 3 stone overweight. I'm hoping for some redistribution of flesh. Haven't gained anything so far, so you never know.
Hugs and good wishes to one and all.

lyra41 · 15/06/2005 21:42

p.s. a doppler is a device that enables you to listen to the baby's heartbeat by putting it against your tummy, like an audio scanner.

horseshoe · 16/06/2005 09:08

Morning all,

How you all doing?? Hows you and your family Rachey???

I brought my doppler from mybump.co.uk. Basically you rent it for 24.99 a month but if you rent it for 7 months they automatically say you brought it. You can get them on ebay for cheaper too.

Well I'm 8+4 today and although booklet says from 10+ gestation, i managed to pick up a tiny heartbeat last night. it was just....well.....WOW
