Thanks girls, for letting me start this thread - bloody MACs (obviously could be user error!)

Went to the docs yesterday and he thinks may be a Feb 1st baby - but 2nd babies are often early - hope they are as dd was 9 days late - hence I am in the Oct rather than Sept post-natal thread!

Hope to hear from the midwife soon as I will want to book a CVS as I am now 38 - had one with dd last year.

Has anyone got a closer age difference that I will hopefully have - there will only be nearly 16 months between dd and dd2/ds - eeeek!

Welcome to all the other newies

Lyra - Fantastic news about the pram. Have just had a look. What a whooper! Mind you, at least you know that no one else will be wheeling one up nd down your high street! Have been looking on Silver Cross website and have heart set on the 'Sleepover' pram/pushchair. Like you I love the idea of having a proper pram for Beanie. Can't see benefit of having one of those 'baby seats on wheels' where bub is all schrunched up and looks v ucomfortable. Want him/her to be able to lie flat.

Well, it's my 35th birthday today. DP is taking me to Waterside Inn in Bray tonight. Am so looking forward to it. I really hope to god that this awful MS doesn't hit in the middle of the meal. Have been so violently ill this week that my throat is sore as hell from all the acid from the sick.

Anyone else getting bored of constantly feeling sick and being sick? Or am I just being a whingy whinger!?!

Right, better crack on. Am still in jim jams!

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Chuffed · 16/06/2005 11:53

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGIE

nothing much to report here still haven't been sick but I do feel worse when I feel tired.

Take care all - very exciting news about the heartbeat.

Elly1801 · 16/06/2005 12:30

Happy birthday, Georgie. Hope you manage to enjoy meal : ) Sounds like a nice place, anyway.

It's funny so many folk with June/beginning July birthdays! I'm next Monday and going out for a meal with family, will be fine as long as there's bean-friendly cheese ; ) !

daisydavis · 16/06/2005 14:05

Hi ladies. I am due 3 Jan. I am so so sick and would welcome any advice. Nausia all day and all night, night is the worst. Done the dry crackets, ginger, warm water, chewing gum, ns name it. Now trying a homeopathic remedy but not working. I'm exhausted and feel terrible. Not enjoying it AT ALL! xx

Mumfun · 16/06/2005 15:22

Hi

Have a fab day Georgie - what a fantastic place to go - enjoy!!!!!!!!

Daisy - I found reflexology stopped my MS - it was a godsend. I still dont feel very well and react badly to smells especially DS nappies but at least the permanent nausea has gone and I can eat better. My lovely hairdresser has found during her pregnancy that cranial massage has solved hers (and she was vomiting daily - sorry if tmi)

Am feeling really rotten though due to major teeth problems that have happended to me -connected to pregnancy but also building on previous problems I have had -dentist has been really good and tried hard to do as little as poss. But still horrible and was in a lot of pain the other night. In pregnancy we should apparently be cleaning our teeth and gums really well and that means flossing daily according to dentist. You have been warned.

Hope all going as well as poss

Hi all! Thanks again for the kind wishes, it's great to feel part of a virtual community! Dad is still hanging in there, I know exactly how you feel Chuffed - my sister decided to come over from NZ for dad but she hadn't seen him in four years - it's a hard call, especially when pregnant!

Lyra - good luck with the CVS, Georgie - Happy Birthday! Have a great day! I'm 36 in 3 weeks and I think I'm only going for the anomaly scan - again, this is a really hard decision. Lyra - what a bargain with the pram! I thought I had done well gettin a Jane Matrix travel system for £100 on ebay. Next I'm looking for a second hand bedside cot (the one that the side comes off and the mattress level can be adjusted to the same height as your own bed - ie making an extension of your own bed - great for night feeds!) I wonder if they do dopplers...!

I'm still nauseous (when I haven't got indigestion!) and after my national travels, I spent today in the Welsh valleys with a stinking cold (and no prospect of night nurse). I'm sleeping really badly at the moment - any tips? In the loo 5-12 times a night! I do seem to have a bump coming although it is a bit early - maybe it's just solid fat!

Chuffed · 16/06/2005 17:56

Rachey - just took off the side of our cot for dd, just had an ikea one for about £30 and put a reinforcing piece of wood in ourselves. The mattress has 4 levels and one of them is virtually the same as the bed. Always an option if you can't find anything.

daisy I had accupuncture and it really helped my nausea - was £38 very well spent if you ask me to not feel grim all the time.

Geez there are a lot of birthdays this month/next. I heard from the hospital yesterday and they are going to change the date of my scan to Sat the 25th which means dh won't be in NY on business which will be fab - am so pleased.

Tabs · 16/06/2005 18:33

Wow Horseshoe - finding a heartbeat on a doppler already! Do you/anyone know if it will be harder to find if you're overweight? I've got rather a lot of fat for the sound to get through, but I'd be tempted to get one fairly early if there's a reasonable chance I could pick it up so soon. I've got a scan booked for when I'm 8+3 (due to previous mmc), but if that brings good news then it's very tempting to get one just afterwards.

Thanks

lyra41 · 17/06/2005 06:29

anyone heard of "placental mosaic"? it was one of the dangers of CVS that the doctor didn't explain to me, and despite this i signed the piece of paper saying I accepted all the risks (lots of them), so now I'm worrying. i'd be worrying about something else if I wasn't worrying about this, it's a tricky time waiting for results.

I'm distracting myself by going to Gardener's World Live at the NEC today with my mum, so I hope that is a rest from worries.

Rachey1969 · 17/06/2005 07:59

Thanks for the tip Chuffed - I didn't realise it would be that easy! last time I had a high old fashioned bed and a one position 'family' cot.

Tabs - I don't know about the doppler, I suppose it might be more difficult early on, no-one is even going to try to get through my spare tyre until I'm 21 weeks! By which time I will have had two scans - counting the days till the first one next wednesday I'm glad your dp will be there for yours now Chuffed.

Lyra - Sorry no idea - try asking on one of the pregnancy boards - perhaps Mears the midwife will answer you?

horseshoe · 17/06/2005 09:11

Tabs i'm about a size 12 but have an awful lots of fat round my tummy since having DD. The doppler says that you should be around 10 weeks gestation before hearing a heartbeat and doesn't mention weight so I dont know. I think it's all to do with the gel and the doppler is very strong.

tried again last night and all I could get was a couple of heartbeats then a whoosing noise and then another couple of beats. I think the whoosing is your waters.

How is everyone today?? I feeling strange. Some days I feel pregnant, sore boobs, M/S, bloated, the lot. Other days I feel completely normal

spangles · 17/06/2005 13:04

Hi everyone
Glad to ear everyone is well. The nausea continues for me but the main symptom of pregnancy I have is tiredness. I cant seem to get any housework done, the house is a real tip
I hope this feeling doesnt last right through.
Rachey... hope things are ok for you.
Lyra41 what is
"placental mosaic"
keep well girls xx

daisydavis · 17/06/2005 13:19

Hi Ladies
Mumfun & Chuffed: Thank you so much for the tips. A couple of people have mentioned accu and reflex now, so thinking I'll give it a go.
Lyra: How was Gardners World Live, I had a ticket to go today, but have spent all day at home nausious instead gutted, I love my gardening, my little sanctury
I know what you mean about the house Spangles, mine is just a nightmare, DH trys bless him, but its needs a damn good clean. Never did I say I'll get a cleaner, but its getting more and more tempting.
Hope everybody has a lovely weekend
Daisy xxx

lyra41 · 18/06/2005 08:48

Hi Daisy

Gardeners World Live was great, but it was one of those events that was so huge, we probably only saw about 1/4 of it. It was very inspiring : even after hours and hours of driving, I dopped Mum and my new old-fashioned pram off at her house and got home and did an hour's blissful, restful mulching, planting and watering.

I have quite a small suburban garden, but it keeps me happy. Just planted a row of box along the edge of a curved flower bed in an attempt to stop the grass growing into the bed. My dh has the task of cutting the grass every week, but he never does the edges properley, it is a source of angst for me, so we'll see how this strategy goes. He'll probably end up mowing the box down knowing him!

Georgie

Happy belated birthday! How did your meal go? What did you eat? I love food details, so don't spare me!

The pram turns out to be great, but in need of a little tlc to smarten it up. Works perfectly well though and I love the navy and cream colour. Just hoping Butter Bean is going to be OK now. Will find out the results of the genetic testing by the end of next week, Thurday at the earliest. Wish it was sooner.

Going to have brek now as am feeling a bit icky and food will help.

See y'all later.

Elly1801 · 18/06/2005 09:42

Hi girls,

All this gardening by proxy is very therapeutic ! I had a little bit of garden borrowed from a friend but they needed it back so I've to content myself with growing cherry tomatoes and tending the houseplants. Green is good!

Off up north this weekend and so looking forward to getting away to the wilds. Speak when I get back, enjoy your w/e's and take lots of care,

Elly x

GeorgieM · 18/06/2005 10:42

Hi everyone. And welcome Daisy.

Birthday meal was amazing - even managed not to puke! DP took me to Waterside Inn in Bray (Michel Roux restaurant, 3 Michelin stars, v fancy pants!). Got taken around the kitchens, introduced to head chef etc. Meal was beautiful, had 'indulgence of salmon and caviar' to start and then Angus beef and posh tatties and veg, cheese and dessert, plus special little rum baba birthday cake they made (although couldn't eat as made with 90% proof rum!!!). Got to admit that food was a little rich and fancy for my liking at this stge of pg. But DP was so gorgeous and attentive and kept telling all the waiters that I was pg and rubbing my tummy and being so proud that I felt like a million dollars.

Garedning I'm afraid is off the menu as suffer from bad hayfever, and seeing as I can't take anti-histamines at the mo I'm suffering with swollen eyes and runny nose......not a good look!

Daisy, have you tried Actimel or Lucozade for your MS? It seems to have takent he edge of mine. Don't drink a lot of Lucozade as it' quiet acidic and I've found it hurts when you're sick (sorry, tmi) but Actimel seems to calm my tummy as does toast and Marmite. I've also stopped trying to stuff food down me that I think I should be eating - ie green veg, meat which I have totally gone off - and am just eating v plain cereals, bread, pastas, less acidic fruits ets.

Anyway, I'll sign off before this becomes a novel. Hope everyone enjoying summer weather. Am off to join the Wombles on Wimbledon Common this arvo for annual fair!

Keep well.

Chuffed · 20/06/2005 14:27

So glad the meal went well.
Nothing new here although I have felt so much better now it has got hotter, hardly any nausea at all although did have a moment during spinning this morning as it does sort of get you worried when it goes.
dh doesn't think i'm going to be able to keep it a secret from work for long, am hoping to last another week all going well with my scan on Saturday, will tell them on Monday.

Rachey1969 · 21/06/2005 05:53

Hi all, very quiet here? Is it the heat? We have new internet monitoring at work so I'm only allowed an hour of 'non work' access now between 8 and 6 but unlimited after (and before) that. Of course the real reason I'm up at 5.30 is our new pup who needs blackout blinds!

It's weird to admit but despite my cold, I'm feeling a lot better re ms and sleeping (and only in the loo once a night now) I may be 12 weeks now but can't wait for my scan tomorrow...

Anyone any scan news?

Rachey1969 · 21/06/2005 05:55

OMG that meal sounds fab, Georgie! It's my birthday in two weeks and dp (a chef) better get that kitchen finished or it will be a VERY expensive meal out for us too!

Chuffed · 21/06/2005 09:25

Good luck for your scan Rachey...mine's on Saturday.

GeorgieM · 21/06/2005 10:28

Hi Ladies. How is everyone? Or more to the point, where is everybody?!

Rachey, like you I'm feeling much better than I did last week. Only retched twice going round Sainsburys yesterday! Doesn't help that DD has an addiction to prawns at the mo and the smell is making me gag.

Had first official craving.... Heinz Sandwich Spread.... for those of you over 30, you might remember this blast from the past! Ran round Sainsburys like woman possesed trying to find it.

Have got scan on Thurs. V excited. Little bit nervous. DP going to peices poor bloke! Stress is getting to him I think.

As I live in Wimbledon I'm dodging tennis players glaore at the mo. Saw Chris Evertt last week!

Chuffed, you sure you should be doing spinning classes? Am v impressed with your stamina and dedication to fitness. Have given up on the gym and am letting it all hang out!

OK lovely ladies, am off to do chores.....

Chuffed · 21/06/2005 10:57

Gym addict me - yes although not nearly so good since dd was born. I did 4 spinning classes at 39wks with dd, the last one was an hour on the Friday night and I started labour on Saturday night. I use a heart rate monitor and keep my heart rate down below 60% of max so under 140 which means that blood isn't being diverted from the baby, I also drink loads and position myself right under the air conditioning vents so don't get too hot. I find it the easiest exercise actually and actually went against everybody and was back at classes 4wks after c-sec taking it easy. Don't think that'll happen this time though.
Very jealous of you being in wimbledon - I have entered the ticket lottery for the last two years and haven't got any - I would love to go, I used to play lots when younger and it's something dd will be learning how to do as soon as she can pick up a racket...that and ski.
Not pushy she can choose how far she wants to go with anything - my take on it is that we can get her to learn...
Enough of my ramblings - we are very quiet on here aren't we...hope everything is OK with everyone.

horseshoe · 21/06/2005 11:31

Hi all,

Oh my goodness, how hot is this weather!!! i want to be in Wimbeldon prefably not in a stinking hot office in front of a computer.

I'm glad everyone is starting to feel OK!!

I'm 9+2 today and some days I feel awful others perfectly normal and then I worry in case i'm mistaken and not pregnant at all (even though I had a scan) and so think about Mcdonalds to see if it still manages to make me sick!!! Completely going round the bend.

Now thinking about maternity leave as would like some time before baby is born to be with DD and so would be nice to have all of xmas off. I worked right up until 4 days before DD was born last time so wont be doing that this time.

Also dont know whether I will have 6 months or a year off as depending on how quick money reserves go down. I did Avon with DD to help bring in an additional wage. Might do some form of party planning this time round too.

GeorgieM · 21/06/2005 11:58

Yum, just ploughing thru ham, tom and sandwich spread sandwich.....really filling a hole I can tell you!

I really envy people that can play raquet sports, have got the hand/eye co-ordination of a blind mole! Was v sporty as a kid, running, swimming, county gymnast, trampolining and hope that DD takes after me. Can't wait for her to be old enough to start gym lessons, horse riding, ski-ing. Everything and anything she wants as long as she doesn't sit on her ass and fester in front of computer games!

Horseshoe, what was Avon like? Am thinking that I might have to do something to bring in some pennies.

Anyone had any vivid dreams? Seem to be having some hum-dingers. Dreamt twice about baby boys.....

beatie · 21/06/2005 12:27

Hi everyone - I've not been on here for ages. Sorry. I didn't have anything to say.

How often are your ante-natal appointments now? Last appt. my midwife said I had to come every two weeks. I was only 26 weeks at the time. Oh well, I can't make it today and then she's on holiday so it will be 4 weeks gap again. Just curious about everyone else.

I'm sure you've talked to death the agony of the heat already. Isn't it hard to find something nice AND cool to wear? I really want to be living in flirty little dresses at the moment but I don't have any. Can't find any in maternity clothes stores and it's not the type of thing that I can find in regular shops this year.

I got myself an underwired bra after someone posted what Miriam Stoppard had to say about bras. I feel soooo much better about the way I look. I got it in Debenhams - it's a plain t-shirt bra in their own Curves collection. It has wide flat underwiring and seems to meet the criteria Miriam spoke about.

And onto pants... I picked up 5 pairs of hipster briefs in Tesco for £2.50 (for all 5 pairs!) They are very very comfortable and a lot more reasonably priced than the fall-apart maternity briefs I got from Mothercare.
