Can't say I can keep up with you all but just want to say hi and hope all is well with everyone.

PS I was totally gripped by the let's talk about kevin book, put me totally off the name kevin though!

Ninjacat · 30/08/2009 22:07

Hello ladies.
Tigger hope your ds is ok. You might not be able to get through to the neighbours ds but your son will learn from your disapproval what is and is not an acceptable way for people to treat him and hopefully if it happens again he'll be able to walk away with his head up knowing he's worth more than that and doesn't have to put up with it.

BBL Glad you found ds safe and well. I love the proclaimers (well the two songs I could name). I'm off to Mosely Folk next weekend, St Ettien and Beth Orton - can't wait.

I have been camping this weekend in the forest of Dean and went Llama trekking. All good fun

Evnstar · 30/08/2009 22:26

Just saying Hi I've discovered Mumsnet today and am due on the 27/11. First baby so I am really excited and petrified at the same time. I live in Essex with my husband and two doggies. I think that's kind of it for intro's.

ErikaMaye · 31/08/2009 01:26

Hello ladies - just a quick note to say I'm back from "The Bad Lands" of Cheshire in one piece. Got stuck in a traffic jam on the way up, best part of eight hours journey, thankfully managed to maintain bladder control Am so glad to be back. Am in absolute agony now, so my bed is calling! Needing to mark my place; three days of not logging in and its wiped my threads!! Will catch up tomorrow.

Hope you're all well. x

BeckyBendyLegs · 31/08/2009 09:33

Ninjacat I love St Etien! I was born on Christmas Day - that is how I discovered them anyway. I am excited! The Proclaimers here I come

Hello Evnstar welcome!

Erika glad you came out of Cheshire unscathed! I guess you got stuck around Birmingham. I always get stuck around Birmingham whenever I venture south.

Trikken · 31/08/2009 10:34

Welcome Evnstar!

Ahh, no more work for 27 weeks. actually feel like im beginning to get prepared now for the baby, cotbed's coming wednesday so hopefully will have the spare room sorted by then.

ErikaMaye · 31/08/2009 11:29

Becky Nope we got stuck everywhere except Birmingham, ironically. There seemed to be roadworks or break downs on every road we were using - I think it was the M4 that was blocked from J8 to J16 A bloody nightmare of a journey.

Welcome Evnstar

Really pleased to hear all these positive attitudes towards birth - we went to labour class Friday before we headed North, I don't think I've ever seen DP look so pale Though I asked about average blood loss and am pleased to hear its less than I was worrying about. MW is sending off referral to a physio tomorrow morning, thank goodness. Though I turned into a total bitch about some of the other people at the class afterwards with DP There was one guy there who was supposedly 17, but was acting like a two year old, and had obviously just been dragged there by his mum. MW was asking if he had any questions, to which his response was, "No, I'm not the one giving birth". The other lad there - no idea how old he was - was just going, "Fck that's gross", "I'm going to be sick", "That's fcking disgusting", all the way through What's worse, DP heard him and his girlfriend outside talking about scoring drugs that night and how stoned they were planning on getting I am SO tempted to slip it into conversation with the MW, but will probably restrain myself, as will just cause trouble. But UGH I was SO angry.

Had a total hormonal break down at the party I was stressed, tired, in a hell of a lot of pain, couldn't hear myself bloody think as the music was so loud, doing my whole freaking out about the journey thing... I think DP and I have argued more this weekend than every before!! Though if he doesn't stop snoring I'm going to smoother him and we won't have to worry about it again

My aunt is 11 weeks gone now, am keeping everything crossed for her, and all three of them in my prayers. I really hope it works out.

Was so sad though, we saw old family friends who lost their son last year in an accident at Brans Hatch They were talking and laughing but there was so much pain behind it all.

ANYWAY very long post, do apologise, but am half asleep, and DPs snoring combined with my hip pain is keeping me awake!!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 31/08/2009 14:56

Hey! I have not caught up on the mammoth posts yet. But, I noticed Trikken's post about baby room being almost ready my poor new baby does not even have a room . The builder has promised to be gone by either friday this week, or monday following, but I am not sure if this was before or after he realised it was bank holiday today . Either way I do not beleive him and am thinking it will be more like following friday. But it is imminent! Then all I have to do is decorate the entire place, apart from kitchen and bathroom!

I discovered 2 very important facts while having a bath yesterday:

  1. My DHs Wilkinson Sword Quattro Razor is perfect for trimming my lady garden (i promise I did not use it when he uses it too, it was one he replaced with a new one!)
  2. I will probably not be able to trim my lady garden again after belatedly finding out this great fact, until after the baby is born as I can no longer see below my belly in that direction. Unless of course I use a mirror. Not sure if it is that important
PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 31/08/2009 15:00

And Welcome evnstar, this thread is fast paced so you will need to learn to read and type quickly! Just in case you do not know, once the thread reaches 1000 (or 1001 to be precise) you cannot post any more on it, so when this happens (which will be soon knowing us lot!) some-one will start a new thread. Should link it on this page but sometimes we get caught out by how much we type. Thought I would let you know so you don't lose us.

LifeOfKate · 31/08/2009 15:13

Hello! I'm fairly new to Mumsnet, and I hope you are all impressed that I managed to read this entire thread before introducing myself

I am Kate, I'm 27 and live in Lincolnshire. This is our first baby, I'm due on 25th November (well, 28th according to LMP, but don't get me started on that...).

I feel like I know a little bit about you all having read 32 pages, but you've all said so much that I can't possibly hope to talk about everything you've discussed recently, so am making my first post here all about me, hope you don't mind!

I'm pretty relaxed about the birth... having done about 2 years midwifery training before I realised it wasn't for me (I catch on slow ) and seeing so many different labours, I've realised it's not really up to me and there is so much evidence that being scared really doesn't help in labour, so I am very relaxed about the whole thing
Actually having responsibility for a human being, however, is a whole different kettle of fish and I am bloody petrified about that part!!

Anyway, really glad I've found mumsnet, I've searched for a decent forum for 27 weeks, and am very pleased to have finally found one which is so... articulate

ErikaMaye · 31/08/2009 15:16

LifeOfKate welcome. I am BLOODY impressed you've read the whole thread... You deserve a medal! My attention span at the moment is so short, I'm doubly impressed

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 31/08/2009 15:20

welcome kate, yes, articulate, that is us , perhaps a bit too much so sometimes! And well done for reading the entire thread first. I am not sure even I have done that! hehe!

I am fairly relaxed about the birth too. I am however a little worried as this baby appears to be significantly bigger than my last . I had a scan on tuesday to check growth as DD was low birth weight (at 5lbs full term) and all appears on track for a bang in the middle weight baby. Now the sonographer said 'if baby continues to grow at this rate, you are on target for a healthy sized baby but I can no nowt about that and he is coming out whether I like it or not! consultant wants to see me for scan and catchup at 32 weeks and 36 weeks.

raggie · 31/08/2009 15:20

Hello and welcome LifeofKate and Evnstar - whew, can't believe you managed to read this whole post LoK, don't think I have managed that yet

Having a lovely relaxed BH weekend. Went window shopping (as in not buying yet but pretty much chosen) for pushchair/cot/moses etc on Saturday which was really fun and then to see Daniel Kitson (has anyone heard of him? I LOVE him, so funny) at Regent's Park open-air theatre that evening at midnight (!) So lazed around all day yesterday with DH who wasn't working/at the cricket/seeing friends for a change

Today have managed to get meself an exercise ball but taking an age to get it to the required size... That's not me blushing, just out of puff with the exersion, and that's with using a pump!

turtle23 · 31/08/2009 15:23

Hello to the new ones
Just to say that I am still lurking. I think that DH and I are splitting for good. I am terrfied but strangely relieved. We will see.
Hope all is well with everyone.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 31/08/2009 15:31

Oh turtle i am so sorry to hear that I really wish it could be different for you, especially at this time. Is he leaving or are you leaving? Or is that all to be decided? Talk to us. We are here, and if there is anything I can do to support you help you, just CAT me.

ErikaMaye · 31/08/2009 15:35

Turtle big big hugs Pavlov is right, we're all here. If you need anything, if there's anything I can do to help you out right now - I can only imagine how difficult things must be for you - please don't hesitate to say. x

LifeOfKate · 31/08/2009 18:19

Thank you for a lovely welcome all

So sorry to hear that turtle, it can't be an easy thing to go through, particularly not when you're pregnant Like others have said, we're all here for you and ready to give whatever support you want.

turtle23 · 31/08/2009 18:23

Thanks all. We have to live together while we figure out who goes where. I think this is the worst bit. I'm meant to be having a home birth and don't even know where I'll be living in three months' time.

scarlotti · 31/08/2009 19:05

Hi All

Managed to catch up on all the posts I've missed whilst away from the weekend.

welcome to the new recruits

turtle sorry to hear you're splitting but it sounds as though it's something you're coming to terms with so stay strong. Feel free to work through any feelings on here.

Well, I'm not back to work tomorrow as still not got the contract sorted out am going to ring around and see if I can sort anything out and also sit down with our house budget and see what can be cut out/reduced. How easy it's going to be to find 5 or 6 weeks work though is the issue ... along the lines of winning the lottery I suspect. Sigh.

At least I'll get to sort out more of the house this week though .. and lots of mumsnetting too obviously!

southernbelle77 · 31/08/2009 19:54

Oh turtle I'm really sorry and hope you sort things out the best you can, for you and baby. As the others have said, we are always here to listen and offer any help if we can.

Welcome LifeofKate and Evnstar. Can't believe you have read all posts!

Nothing much happening here this weekend! I've had a pretty lazy one yesterday and today which is nice! Have a busy week with catching up with dd's social life (how is it that a 5 year old has more of a social life then me?!) but means I get to see some adults to catch up with too!

skorpion · 31/08/2009 19:54

Welcome newbies, lovely to have you here.

turtle - really sorry to hear that. I hope things will not take too long to sort out and you can start afresh. Thinking of you.

becky - we had a lovely weekend in Newcastle, up the valley from Clun. I cannot believa that such wonderful place is so close - it took us just over two hours to get there on Friday! Loved it, despite the grim weather. Took a drive to Elan Valley yesterday and walked in the valley for about four hours and today we did a bit of the Offa's Dyke. Another place to add to our list of favourites.

BeckyBendyLegs · 31/08/2009 19:56

Turtle big hugs from me too.

Welcome LifeofKate!

Guess what!!!! I've just spoken to the Proclaimers!!!! I told them off for keeping my baby awake all the way through the concert! I got them to sign my festival programme to DS1 and DS2 (not that they are that bothered!).

The Proclaimers were ace on a stick. I bopped for 1 hour and a half.

OP posts:
skorpion · 31/08/2009 20:13

Brilliant, bbl, sounds like great fun!

Trikken · 31/08/2009 20:48

welcome lifeofkate! Pavlov have also found dh's razor very useful, in fact dh seems to take pleasure in helping me shave any place I cant get to, he is surprisingly gentle and nimble.
Also only reason dh is helping me sort out room now is otherwise the cot will have to go in the lounge until he does it, therefore obscuring tv viewing, thus quite good motivation to get it done!
Hope you give that builder a great big kick up the bum and he gets the nursery done doubly quick!

lemontop · 31/08/2009 21:17

welcome lifeofkate and evnstar turtle really sorry you have decided to split. Hope you can sort things out as amicably as possible and do what's best for you and baby.

I'm feeling more positive about gestational diabetes as have had some great advice from fellow MN.

We've finally started to get organised baby wise as GD babies are sometimes induced early, which could mean having a baby in about 8 weeks Painted baby room which looks lovely, put cot together and bought and picked up a pram from ebay. Managed to get a pliko pramette for £45 which is a bit of a bargain. Going to use that and then go for a baby jogger city mini when baby is a bit older.

I guess my next job is packing bag for hospital. eek!
