Becky, hope you're all havig fun in Wales! How's the weather?

Glad today went relatively well, Erika. It's def not an easy thing to do.

Pavlov am also in mega-DIY mode. Spent the whole weekend v v v v busy, then tomorrow have workmen coming to do something to do the nursery room (someone who is better at DIY than us!) Just shortened, hemmed, ironed and put up lounge curtains, just have bedroom ones and nursery blackout blind to do now. Oh, and sort out a million other things!

EasyEggs nice to hear from you! Wow, October is busy in your house!! Are you due beg/end of Nov, I can't remember? Just wondering if this one might be able to join in on the celebrations too?!

ErikaMaye · 03/08/2009 00:13

Pavlov, I could attempt to help here by quoting various day time home improvment shows, but I'm sure I'll just sound like a pillock But apparently, painting the chimney breast a different colour to the rest of the room is tres chic!

Thanks, katster How did the curtains turn out? I still feel kinda crappy about the fact that he's going to have to be in with me until I move out... No way the council will sort us out - according to them its fine for a mother and baby to share a room until the child is seven...

Dogma night!!! I love Alan Rickman. Is it wrong to find him incredibly attractive? Especially when he's in roles when he really shouldn't be attractive? (Namely Serverus Snape...) Saying that, I'm in love with Stephen Fry as well... Lucky my DP is a very forgiving man!!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 03/08/2009 09:26

Nothing wrong with finding Alan Rickman attractive- isn't he in Truly, Madly, Deeply? He was lovely in that.

Weather is mixed - rain and sun today - off to beach soon!

DS2 woke up at 4.22am last night with 'cold feet' and DS1 at 5am just as I was falling asleep needing his inhaler. First nights are always a bit unsettled!

The good news is my back is getting much better, thank goodness. Need to carry all our buckets and spades to the beach today

scarlotti · 03/08/2009 09:41

Pavlov Can understand exactly what you're going through, we've done two loft conversions now and this house we're in has needed decorating throughout.
fwiw - we papered the alcoves with a really bold pattern and then just painted the rest of the room, it's quite effective and means you get a lovely print without it overwhelming you! Made it easier for me then as I just picked colours for wall and carpet out of the wallpaper pattern.
Am sure you know all this anyway though!

easyeggs good to hear from you again

BBL enjoy your hols

erika glad meeting the FIL went well, always a tricky meeting at first but soon you'll feel much more at ease with him and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!

Well, my nursery has messed up paying all it's staff today and so they've boycotted and not come in!! Can understand why, and do sympathise, but that's not much help when you're stranded at 8am with no childcare! No family around either. DH working from home this morning and hopefully I can get away for this afternoon. We can just about manage to cover today, but both have meetings that can't be rearranged tomorrow - arrghh!!!!

Why couldn't it have been next week - the DC's are off to Mum's in Wales for the week then ... sigh.....

ErikaMaye · 03/08/2009 11:09

Haha thanks Becky, glad its not just me!! Enjoy the beach, and I'm glad your back is better

Thanks, Scarlotti I think partially it was because of his age - with DP being that much older than me, so are his parents. His Dad is actually only 6 years younger than my Grandad, so I wasn't really sure how to handle him!!! But yeah... Am glad its over, but not dreading seeing him again at least. I'm sorry to hear about the childcare situation Can you not find a baby sitter in your area? Its the summer holidays, I imagine there are probably a lot of pre-uni students looking for any type of work.

Very nervous about doctors appointment now. If he says he won't put me back on my meds then I'm going to have to struggle. But if he says he will, then I'm just going to panic the whole time about LOs heart Ugh!!!

Koumak · 03/08/2009 16:59

Seriously? I have been away from mumsnet for only 4 days and we have a new thread? I am still trying to catch up with the old one! So sorry if some of my comments seem a bit behind!

The ones who were talking about stay in hospital. Ds was born 8.30pm on Wednesday so no way they would discharge us then the following day paediatrician checked ds and said he can hear heart murmur (sp?) and that it is probably only because he is not 24 hours old so couldn?t go home then. He came to see him the following morning though and he was fine. Still had to wait till late afternoon to be discharged as mw too busy! I would?ve thought that if you get rid of one mother and baby the more time for the others who are staying no? So only arrived home late on Friday night. But at least we had a nice weekend together as a family before dh had to go to work on Monday!

Katster my ds was 13 days late and induced.

Scarlotti really bad leg cramps here too I had them for few weeks now. If it?s not in the middle of the night trips to the toilet then this. I can?t get decent night sleep.

Pavlov you almost made me cry. Your dd sounds so cute! OMG a lot of work to get through (I am renting for those reasons) but your house will be so lovely after that and exactly the way you want it!

Stokey it?s the same dress! I shall wear it in 3 weeks at a wedding. Got the wrap dress in black in sale too. Wore it to one wedding earlier and now its perfect for work.

Lemontop hope your wedding went according to plan! Do tell us!

Tamlin my belly is sooooooooo big already and still have 3 months to go. Where is it all going to go? I won?t be able to carry myself soon.

Also my health in pregnancy grant arrived in my account on Friday a day earlier then the letter saying I qualified!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 03/08/2009 17:04

there are no walls between DDs bedroom and the hallway ! DD absolutely freaked when she saw this enormous long corridor where her bedroom used to be. She is soooooooo upset. She keeps saying we have taken away her bedroom and where will she play now. She said 'mummy daddy bedroom is not my bedroom, where is my bedroom gone?' and she just went to go to the bathroom which meant walking past where her room used to be and she started crying all over again, and said she was scared.

I did not think of how much it would impact on her, she has been so excited about new baby, new bedroom and sleeping in out room, I sort of forgot that this is all she has ever known, that bedroom was hers since she was 9 months old, we have just effectively destroyed her hom . Poor thing, I have not seen her so upset and inconsolable since she was a tiny baby .

I personally think it looks fab and wish we were able to keep the wall down, it makes the place look so much bigger! But not sure new baby will be happy sleeping in a corridor!!! (and I have got rid of the hallway carpet, its in the bin, YEY!!!!)

BeckyBendyLegs · 03/08/2009 18:39

Hello all!

Pavlov your poor DD! She could have gone either way I suppose, either seen it as a huge novelty and adventure or huge travesty.

We've had a lovely day just being at the seaside - I'm not a big planner when it comes to days out and that sort of thing. We've been rock-pooling this afternoon and although we didn't catch anything this friendly girl gave us three fish and a crab! The DSs thought that was brilliant! I've got that 'I've been outdoors all day' glow now. The sun hasn't shone or anything but feel kind of sun-touched. Weird.

The DSs are eating their tea wearing just tops and pants as their jeans got soaked in the sea! They are happy little boys.

Scarlotti oh dear! I hope you manage to juggle work and childcare ok. I sympathise, I am always juggling! I've had to take the DSs to meetings at Oxford Uni Press only to have them take all the books off the bookshelf and cause general chaos. Now I only have phone meetings but I quite often have DS2 saying 'is that grandma?' in a loud voice or 'I need a poo, mummy'.

Anyway, better go, the rain clouds are looming and all our jeans are hanging outside!

Erika I hope your doctors appnt goes ok. When is it?

OP posts:
helips · 03/08/2009 19:36

BBL your day sounds perfect! bet your boys had a great time!

It has been really sunny here, went to the park with friends this morning and then the woods this afternoon. You'd think ds would be worn out but he is still singing away upstairs and keeps getting out of bed! Oh well, dh will be home shortly so he can deal with him!

pavlov your poor dd, hope she gets used to it all soon and just think how excited she'll be with her new room.

I managed to clear out the spare room yesterday to make a start on ds room and was absolutely exausted afterwards. Had to get dh to take ds out so that I could have a nap. Just got to order the furniture and arrange for the decorators to come round. Can't wait for it to be done, I am doing a cowboy theme and it is going to look cool, hopefully ds will love it too!

ursigurke · 03/08/2009 20:08

Once again too much to catch up properly and I'm just tired from my busy weekend.
Leg cramps: I had them twice so far, but not since a while BUT I have kind of the opposite problem now: I go to bed, am really tired, think I'll be sleeping deeply in about 5sec and suddenly my legs start hurting in a strange way. It's not really pain but it feels as if they needed to be moved. (I haven't had this feeling since 25 years when it used to be hard to sit in school without moving). Very often I really have to get up and walk around in the flat. Once, I even cleaned the kitchen at midnight.
And I do seem to get a second problem and it might be TMI: Varicosities in my labia. After sitting for an hour or so, walking is a bit uncomfortable, but just for 2min or so. I've tried to check with a little mirror (BTW, I find it rather funny that I'm just not able anymore to see parts of my body which I could perfectly see a couple of weeks ago), and they look definitely different and I think it might be the beginning. Anybody with experience?

sleeplessinthecity · 03/08/2009 20:14

Hi pedal good to see you again.

All with Swine flu..glad you're getting better. It's petrifying from i hear of it on the BBC..but so pleased you're all over it. well done.

Southernbelle am suffering with SPD too..its hellish but no crutches yet..have a three storey house to deal with too.. poor you how are you managing..can you sleep?? are you wearing a belt.. I find it so restrictive..eating and generally being able to breath. To make the pain go away you have to have it on really tight!

easyeggs wow...you should write a manual..big respect your way.

becky are you fun??

hobnob Thanks for the tips on SPD..will check out Earth Shoes..

Oh and I wore the IO Jessica Alba dress in Spain this weekend...and a lovely lady at the end of the evening said I was the most glamourous preg lady she has ever seen! Good ole IO!!...I still felt like a whale..but it cheered me up as the bride was utterly stunning in her flamenco type dress and 20s hair do..DH was a rabbit caught in headlights!

ErikaMaye · 04/08/2009 00:23

Pavlov, bless you and you DD. I hope that she becomes more keen on it tomorrow morning.

So I'm re medicated. My doctor was great about it, really, but part of me still feels like a failure for not managing it. Maybe that's part of the illness and it will lift when the meds kick in. He's put me back on my old ones, so that's some comfort, although its a third of my normal dose...

SOOOOOO disappointed in Harry Potter six

southernbelle77 · 04/08/2009 07:05

Erika Please don't feel like a failure. Better that you went to the doctor and did something about it than let things get too bad without consulting anyone. You are a strong person and this proves it. Stay strong.

sleepless sleeping is the worst part of the spd for me at the moment. I can't get comfortable for love nor money. It hurts to put a pillow between my legs as it means moving them apart to do it (itms!) and then if I need to turn over (which I do need to do quite often as I get stiff) it makes it even harder to do as then have to readjust the pillow! All in all sleep isn't happening very well! I hope you don't end up on crutches as that would be very hard with your 3 stories. And I'm glad the dress was lovely

BBL glad you are having a good time. It sounds loads of fun and bet the ds's are really enjoying it. We are going away on Saturday and I can't wait for the break!

Pavlov hope dd comes to terms with her 'old' room situation soon. Bless her.

Got to dash now as mindees start arriving soon and need to get me and dd up and ready! Off out for the day so fingers crossed it doesn't rain too hard and then taking dd to the library so she can get some new books. She is doing the quest seeker challenge and is so excited (she's 5 and it's the first year she has done it)

southernbelle77 · 04/08/2009 07:12

Just looked at earth shoes! They look odd and are quite expensive! Not sure I can justify them when I am now earthing less than a 1/4 of what I was two months ago

BeckyBendyLegs · 04/08/2009 08:31

Urisgurke I don't know what that is called but I get that too whenever I am pregnant! It is like having a restless leg or something - like it needs to move all the time - esp in the evenings. Does anyone else get it? Is there a name for it?

Erika as Southernbelle says you are strong and you need to stay positive if you can. You've been through so much so far in your life.

Today it is raining. We've just had bacon butties. Going to Aberystwyth today as we always do when it rains. We always treat ourselves to three-for-two in Waterstones. We get to chose one book each with a yellow sticker on it. The DSs love it! Problem is: the book I really want doesn't have a yellow sticker on it (I checked last time I was in Waterstones). Sarah Walter's latest offering. Will I get away with it?

OP posts:
skorpion · 04/08/2009 08:52

ursi, becky - restless leg syndrome. Quite popular in pg apparently. I get it, too. It's like a clenching, uncomfortable feeling, not exactly painful, just have to twich my legs for it to ease for a couple of minutes, but it comes in waves. I heard it's to do with lack of potassium, bananas are recommended. Also stretching and no caffeine, I think.

katster37 · 04/08/2009 09:05

Usi and BBL yes, I get restless leg syndrome too - it is awful!! I alternate between that and cramp. Two nights ago I had to get up and walk round the flat, it was horrid. Also sometimes get it if sat for a long time like at the theatre/cinema.

Pavlov oh no hope your DD likes her new room when it's all done!

We have a house full of workmen and I am hiding at the kitchen table behind the laptop. It smells of sawn wood and is really noisy. Yesterday, one STANK of booze, I retched when he spoke. How gross. The cat is also hiding.

southernbelle77 · 04/08/2009 09:07

Yes, it's restless leg syndrome. I get it too and it's so annoying. I get it when not pregnant when I get too tired and it really irritates DH!! Does anyone find that it kind of hurts as well or is that just the spd to add to it?!

Hope you have a good day Becky and have fun choosing books. I think you should treat yourself to the book you really want!

We are off out now and of course the rain has started! Oh well, we will just get wet as going to the wildlife centre and not changing that!

sleeplessinthecity · 04/08/2009 09:21

I just feel awful at night southernbelle I sort of need a massage on my legs as they are so, how can I put it, restless..Doesn't hurt though.. I had to douse the pillow with lavendar to get back to sleep at 5 am.

I dream of bacon butties...don't get bacon here..its tragic!!
katster at your workmen...how bad smelling of booze..
Heard a baby nearby at 5 am...that will be me(us) soon...sigh..

ErikaMaye · 04/08/2009 09:33

Thanks, Becky and Southernbelle What would I do without you ladies? The midwife is going to pop over Monday afternoon to check on baby... Mainly for my own peace of mind.

I keep getting these cramps in my calves, its agony!! And my hand went all funny last night and dinner very nearly ended up on the floor

katster - of your workman smelling of drink!!! Though I did giggle at the idea of your cat hiding.

I'm a bad influence on DP - very nearly had him persuaded to call in sick and cuddle up with me all day He finally decided to be responsible and adult about it, and has gone off to work, grumbling every minute, which I find hilarious. I reminded him ever so kindly that I was going to go back to bed!

Sleepless - No bacon?!? gasps Am glad the wedding went well, am sure the lady was right!

wook · 04/08/2009 10:03

Beckybendylegs Definitely try to wangle the Sarah Walters if you can, it is great. I did a 3 for 2 last week in preparation for my visit to my family in Worthing- got the Chris Cleave book that was recommended here, and for the life of me can't remember the other two! I think one was called 'December' and I thought it might be a good winter night brestfeeding read. Anyway, haven't had a chance to open the Chris Cleave as have been rampaging about visiting family and looking after ds- mum always says 'Come down for a rest and I'll take care of ds' Hmmmmm. She's at work today so we are going to see Ice Age 3 at the pictures- last time we went to the pix, ds managed about 30 minutes of Bolt before he lost interest.
A good friend has begun a miscarriage today . This time last year, she had just given birth to her daughter and I had just lost mine and could barely face her- not a nice feeling at all, but I felt about as far away from her joy and delight as she did from my misery. Now I know my bump will not be an especially welcome sight to her. But I hope that I can be there for her as much as she needs.

Laugs · 04/08/2009 11:30

Wow, you lot chat a lot! I'm just back from my holiday and have read about 30 pages to try and catch up! Unfortunately, I've now forgotten most of it...

wook sorry about your friend. I'm sure having been through a similar experience will help you to give her what she needs at this time.

3 people I was on holiday with were reading that Chris Cleave book! They all loved it.

lemontop I hope the wedding was fantastic - details, please!

naetha hope you are feeling better and DS didn't get it.

I have to go and sort out absolutely mountains of washing, but will be back later... hope everyone's well.

Oh, and I've been getting terrible cramps and even worse constipation. One night it actually felt like the second stage of labour, brought on Braxton Hicks and was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced! Quite scary actually. It's crazy the things pregnancy does to your body.

Koumak · 04/08/2009 13:17

Wook that can?t be easy!

Laughs jealous. Still 11 days till mine! Where did you go?

Pavlov After reading your other thread I wished I didn?t find out about rocket dog shoes they are so cool. Must find an excuse for bying a pair or two?

To those out there with the green IO dress? What are you going to/wore it with? The hidden (very well too!) stylist in me is telling me to go for something tanned/camel like colour wise but I don?t have anything and don?t want to spent too much either. Would black high heels and pashmina, black clutch be too much or ok? I was thinking either show stopping greenish big necklace or none at all? Help me please!

Who was talking about Scorpion babies? This is one is likely to be one and so is my dh and my father too! I am Cancer and ds is Capricorn. What does is say about us then?

Ninjacat · 04/08/2009 13:38

Laugs you found us! I was worried. Glad to see you are back. Hope you had a happy holiday.

weston · 04/08/2009 13:40

back at work again..boo...but supposed i should be happy i only have 27 days..not that i am counting or anything...

can't believe how fast time is going, can u believe in around 3 months or even less for some we will have little babies!!

everyone filled in their free £200 grant forms..more shopping hurrah
