trikken I am so surprised he felt he could get away with that without punishment?! Fool. I hope you get to buy some more today.

Builders, Builders, Builders. , they are back in today. Yes today, being saturday. There will be no rest from this hell called Loft Conversion. not even at the weekend. .

But DH and I have the day to ourselves as a friend is taking DD ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT. Love that she is. No idea what we are going to do. Had considered canoing, but the weather looks shit and while we have waterproofs, but sure if I want to spend 3 hours paddling in the rain today. DH will not want to either.

he is being a grumpy sod. i won't go into details but he is even more grumpy since I called him an Arse, and made him a cuppa saying 'here you go Arsey' perhaps that was not such a good mood, but he is being an arse, and when I am being moody he has no problems letting me know every 5 seconds. So, ha the tables are turned and he does not like it.

The house is a state. I really need to get cleaning, sort it out a bit. But with all this building stuff, I just cannot be assed. Really, so cannot be assed it is not funny. I have officially Given Up.

Baby bump had the hiccups yesterday for the first time! And DD felt him moving again this morning which was nice for her, she was very pleased. And baby bump does not like sleeping on my left either, he feels heavier and like he is lying on a nerve or something. So I am not worrying too much about that.

weston · 15/08/2009 08:42

re. the quinny, i had a quinny buzz last time and used it with maxi cosi car seat - def the best car seat around and if u are going to be in and out of the car alot the isofix base is the best invention in the world
beware of punctures thought if u live in teh countryside! i just bought some green gunge that is supposed to stop getting flat tyres which when u are on in the middle of a 3 mile round trip on countrylane is an interesting concept..
right off to hairdressers for beautification and de-greying...

Laugs · 15/08/2009 09:20

Morning, hope you all have nice weekends planned.

What does GTT mean by the way? I am feeling very ignorant.

Our weekend is supposedly set aside for Sorting Out the Flat, but doing what I don't know. I have a really strong urge to start ripping up carpets and tearing off wallpaper (In fact DD has helped me by making a start on her room ), but then I hate all the putting it back together again.

erika I have just had an inspiration that since you obviously have a knack for writing and are already doing a pregnancy diary, you should write a book on a Teenage Guide to Pregnancy - you know, everything from sorting out benefits and seeking out nursery bargains to dealing with rude old ladies on the bus! I can imagine this is the kind of thing that, if it's been done done before, would have been in a patronising 'there, there dear' way, whereas yours could be no-nonsense, honest and lively (like our friend Kaz Cooke). You could even have been-there-done-that quotes from Ninjacat and Scarlotti... I'm getting carried away now!

ErikaMaye · 15/08/2009 10:34

Pavlov they tend not to like it... Silly men. I had a conversation with the social worker about how odd men are yesterday - she's recently divorced - it was hilarious. We got asked to leave the cafe Hope your day is good despite the builders.

Laugs Do you think? It did cross my mind a while ago... There are books but not many good ones - tend to be very negative, even in the titles! Maybe I'll have a type and see what comes out Then I'll send it to you lot for editing

Going to have to talk finances with DP today < gulp > Its not been intentional, but its worked out that I've bought everything for Bryn so far. Litterally. And that doesn't really seem fair... Not looking forward to it. Not that he's going to be nasty or anything, he's probably going to be quite straight and apologise, but still - awkward!

ursigurke · 15/08/2009 10:54

Laugs, I think it is "Glucose Tolerance Test". So they test how your body is dealing with lots of glucose, if it is still able to metabolise an appropriate amount of it and in an appropriate time. In the big one, you'll have to have a completely empty stomach, then you'll drink the glucose, and then they take blood every hour to see, if the sugar level is going down. I think, in some areas they only do it if there are any symptoms of gestional diabetes or if you are in a risk group. In others (like in my case), they do a pretest, where you have to drink a certain amount of lucozade and then they'll test you once after a specific time. If this test shows a bad result, they would do the big and more accurate one.

ursigurke · 15/08/2009 10:56

Forgot to say, Trikken what a terrible situation. But you have to blame yourself a little bit , if my husband has learnt one thing during our relationship, than it's "NEVER EVER eat the last bit of chocolate, otherwise your wife will get completely mad" (that's about the only thing he has learnt so far.

Laugs · 15/08/2009 11:11

ursi Thanks for that. I think I must be in one of the areas that don't test as a matter of course. Hope everyone's GTTs go well.

erika yeah, why not? I'd recommend you start NOW though. On my last maternity leave I'd planned to write a novel as I'd have loads of time off. Ha. How naive I was...
The Money Talk. Yuk. In my experience this is always a bit fraught, even if it turns out you agree. Still, good copy for your chapter on Finance

I've just heard that DH came to bed at 5am so it looks like DIY is out. Oh well. I am planning my night off tonight and mammoth lie in tomorrow already. Bath, ice cream, hot chocolate, books... and I'm going to demand breakfast in bed.

Tamlin · 15/08/2009 11:30

Pavlov, I am v. impressed if you think you'd be able to last three hours in a canoe without needing to jump out and wee. I suggested to DH that we go punting again in Oxford one weekend, and he looked at me sideways and said 'I don't fancy having to stop every ten minutes so you can leap out onto the bank.' Oh well, punting's not much fun if you can't drink anyway...

DH has taken DS out for the morning, as he hasn't spent much time with him recently (long work hours) and he's about to head to the US for a business trip and leave me alone with the child for a week and a half. I probably should not be regarding this prospect with such horror.

Anyway, DH came and got me out of bed saying 'He's lying sobbing hysterically on the living room floor, I can't get him to get up so we can leave, WHAT DOES HE WANT?' I went down, and DS was shrieking 'Tom! Toot toot! Me! Oh, ME!' incoherently. Translated 'He wants to wear his Thomas the Tank Engine swimming trunks over the top of his trousers. I suggest you let him', and went back to bed for another two hours.

I'm going to head down to the village coffee shop, drink a cappuccino with nobody stealing my biscuit, and read my way through the Saturday papers...

Ninjacat · 15/08/2009 11:54

Pav I want to go canoeing. DP worked late yesterday and has put our plans of a daytrip off until tomorrow.
(whispers... will you be wearing a wet suit? I don't fancy my chances of getting into one at the moment. Actually I don't fancy my chances of getting into a canoe without getting stuck)

Laugs sounds like a great idea. Now what novel will you write this pregnancy?

Trikken · 15/08/2009 13:23

All is good so far today. DH came home from his night shift bearing chocolate so all is forgiven.

Ds has gone to Nana's so been cleaning since I dropped him off. Dont know how it gets so messy. Tho do have an issue that our dishwashers decided to pack in and cant wash up as the sink has blocked itself up. gaa

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 15/08/2009 17:40

Well we did not go canoeing. Instead we drove around, and around, and around finding somewhere to serve us lunch! The place we wanted to go was not taking walk-ins as the normal chef was off (it was a fish restuarant, for those who know Yealmpton, its the Rose and Crown, but the fish restuarant next door). So, we decided to drive to find somewhere else in Ugborough and DH took a wrong turning then we could not find anywhere. We ended up in a fucking harvester which did not cater to my tastes at all!!! It was ok, mainly for the fact it was minus a child, but we sat there saying how appropriate it would have been to have DD running around creating havoc in a family friendly joint such as that!

So we stopped off in sainsburys, got cheese and biscuits for tea and apple pie and custard for pudding. have decided not to go to the wedding anniversary party as I am knackered, so we are going to play tiger woods on the xbox snuggle, and maybe watch a movie. I might have a bath (another one, had one yesterday ) do my toenails (while I can!)

ninja - yes I can still get into my wetsuit but only because it was already a size too big!

tamlin Funnily enough, my bladder is not problematic in the slightest. In fact, it is somewhat improved, how about that. It happened last pregnancy. I have always had a horrendous bladder, and when I asked the midwife why it had improved suddenly, she said it is likely that my bladder was not positioned in a great place and the pregnancy shifted it into a better one, and it stayed to an extent. But, even now it is better than it was pre this pregnancy. Odd isn't it? (not at night time though, started needing to go at night now).

I really wish we had gone canoeing. Dh is watching football. So nothing different going on today. I shall log off in a mo as he will blame MN for it, even though it went on before I got the puter out.

Have a good day all xx

hobnob57 · 15/08/2009 19:53

Had a golf widow day, and feeling irrationally hormonally about it all, especially since we only have one car and my summer hols are spent housebound during the week and then housebound during golf at the weekends. I'm just winding myself up about sorting out this house, and with no help from DH I'm beginning to fluster myself. C A L M.

scarlotti re SPD - it's so hard initially to remember all the good things to do to avoid it since most of them are not what is intuitive, but you do get use to it and, as I'm finding this pg, some become habits for life. Basically, you've got to try to keep your knees stuck together when doing anything, and if they have to unavoidably part then use all the strength you can muster in your pelvic floor, lower tum and bum muscles to compensate. Usual triggers to avoid are: rolling over in bed (knees together), getting out of the car (both feet out first and stand up straight from there, knees together), getting off the sofa (stand up straight on both feet at the same time - this will need some shuffling to the edge of the sofa - and make sure you're aligned before moving off in any direction from there), getting out of the bath (bend over and put hands on the edge of the bath and try to get out without parting your knees as much as possible), hoovering - generally best avoided unless you're wearing some kind of support. Hope it doesn't get too much worse for you.

Can't remember who was asking about quinnys - we have a speedi which is lovely to push and has served us very well and works a treat on beaches, but the height adjustment mechanism on the handle is a bit dodgy so I'm not sure I'd recommend it from that point of view. It slips if you're pulling the buggy up a kerb backwards which can be alarming (although ultimately safe since it can only slip so far). I loved the travel system part of it, and the maxi cosi seat (yes, the isofix base was a godsend), so if I were to do it all again it would be a tough call between the Speedi and the 3 wheel Jane , which seems to be built a bit better.

Ninjacat · 15/08/2009 20:14

My head is spinning from all this talk of pushchairs. We have agreed to start looking late september but it's all double dutch to me. In an ideal world I'd have a big old Silver Cross thing but might need to win the lottery first.

Hobnob my sympathies are with you on the golf front. Dp is not a golfing man but I was brought up by my Dad who was (and very proud of his handicap of 4) I spent many a weekend being dragged around the golf course in silence. Think I knew my Birdie from my Albatross before I new my alphabet.

Pavlov I dream of getting back into my wetsuit which was once (about 6mnts ago) a size too big as well. No longer the case though . I suppose if there is a positive for the hypermisis (sp?) still getting into your wetsuit might be it.

BeckyBendyLegs · 15/08/2009 21:20

Hobnob I'm a computer widow this weekend so I'll join you in widowhood.

For some reason tonight I really, really, really want to be able to drink wine with abandon! DH bought a bottle of wine today and although I can have a small glass, which I will do in a min, I just wish I could have a big glass with no worries like the pre-pregnancy days. I don't drink much normally but every now and then I just want a big glass of red wine for no other reason except that it tastes yummy

I went shopping in town with just DS1 today and it was lovely to have quality me and DS1 time together. Will I be able to do that with three around my ankles??

Pavlov at you being able to get into a wet suit! I've never worn one but they don't look easy to get into. Do they not do maternity wet suits with a nice bump shape??

Erika you should soooo write that book. Great idea Laugs! I'd love to write a book too but that old chestnut lack of time gets in the way.

OP posts:
ErikaMaye · 15/08/2009 22:09

Haha well as we're all agreed - DP thinks its a good idea too - I'll start scribbling away when I get back home

Oh my GWAD how relieved am I? As soon as I got here, DP was like, "Its only just crossed my mind that you've bought everything. How much do you want? And I'll buy the rest to make up for it." I didn't even have to open my mouth. Thank goodness for that...

I've just been a total pig and eaten a whole large pizza from Dominos With potato wedges It was so good.

hobnob57 · 16/08/2009 20:24

So glad you're having a good day Erica.

I seem to have descended into the depths of hormonal hell today. DH was home, so I took off with the car and went shopping for all the clutter-beating furniture I've been eyeing up for the past 3 weeks. My car door got dented when I was in one shop, so I sat for 40 minutes in the baking sunshine until the owner car next door turned up - a woman with a tribe of 5 blonde and beautiful children. Despite the door OBVIOUSLY matching the dent, she insisted it was not possible that her precious range rover had done that and anyway, her kids all got out of the other side (over a car seat - likely story). So she basically lied to my face and left me with the option on either speaking my mind to her and dissolving in a hormonal puddle or getting back into my car and slamming the door to make me feel better, which I did.

I got back to find DH struggling with DD who gets loud, excited and incessantly talkative when he is home. So he was grumpy and so was she, and they were setting each other off. Lunch was late, adding to the problem. Once sorted and off for her nap, DH did the good deed and assembled my furniture. After she got up things descended into short fuses again, especially as SIL turned up at 4:30 so tea was delayed until 6.

I am now thinking very bad thoughts about DH (while he is off doing the weekly shop in Tescos, bless him) and I can't feel like I can speak my mind for I fear I'm being irrational (and I'll burst into tears). I just hate the summer because I have so much time off work yet due to having no car and him playing so much (^&(& golf and always being far too tired and grumpy to be doing anything else when he is home that I am fighting a losing battle in getting anything achieved with that time, which we have so little of during term. As it stands, the decking still hasn't been treated, the lawn has yet to be fed this year, DD's bench also needs treated, the windowsill in the kitchen needs painted, the ensuite ceiling needs sanded and painted (after he ripped off the paint with masking tape 2.5 years ago), not to mention making crucial decisions like remortgaging. He also won't let me do any of these jobs myself. so they never get done. But he always talks about doing them 'next weekend'. GGGRRRR

I guess I just want to know I'm not alone.

But I just might have a touch of back-to-work-itis

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/08/2009 20:57

Hobnob you're not alone! I have similar gripes with DH (who at 8.52pm on a Sunday night is on his way back from work). Our list of jobs includes: garden is a state (I've been mowing the lawn with my dodgy back and big belly), DS1's bike needs fixing, we need to get someone to quote on converting the cellar into a room (ideally before baby arrives!), etc, etc. There are more. But he's just too busy!!! I've been a single parent this weekend and it is hard not to feel stroppy about it. Your car bumping experience sounds horrible - that woman could have at least had the grace to say 'perhaps it was my car' even if she wasn't sure.

I'm watching Wife Swap again! Tessa Sanderson has the same kettle as we do. Sad! BB on soon. I do watch more than crap on TV, I promise!

I've been feeling quite 'morning sick' the last few days. Has anyone else had ups and downs with this? Can it return, not as bad as in the early days, but to a higher degree at some points. I didn't feel very sick with DS1 and DS2 so I haven't experienced this before.

OP posts:
PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 16/08/2009 21:13

becky ROFL at the idea of maternity wet suit! We should market it!

ErikaMaye · 16/08/2009 21:33

Hobnob that sounds like so much more extra stress that you could totally do without, right now. I hope everything gets sorted. And for you, Becky.

I'm so grumpy today - only had about two hours sleep if that. Bryn was breech last night, so however I was laying, I was getting beaten up. Then didn't want to miss out on any time with DP, so instead of trying to sleep - it was too hot anyway - I lived on Red Bull

Off to browse the Friday Ad for a cot...

Laugs · 16/08/2009 21:43

I'm watching Wife Swap on 4+1 - well, only half watching as DD is getting out of bed every 3 minutes. I am attempting to be all Supernanny-ish and straightfaced as I put her back to bed, but it's not really working. She keeps making me laugh
DD: Mummy, my baby brother is going to get smaller and smaller and smaller and then POP out!
Me: We don't know if it's going to be a baby brother or a baby sister.
DD: Yes I do. I know it's definitely a brother.

hobnob sorry about your rubbish day! How horrible was that woman? Can you sort out with DH about at least using the car at the weekends, even if he can't be around?

becky I am still being sick too, about once or twice a week. It's nice that it's less often, but I think I feel worse when I'm actually sick than I did before. Or maybe I'm just not as used to it.

lemontop · 16/08/2009 21:48

hobnob sorry you've had a rubbish day. (I didn't even know you had to treat a lawn!)We've got tonnes of stuff to do to our house and have just started stripping wallpaper for nursery to be replastered next weekend.

DH and I decided to treat ourselves to a 4D scan yesterday. I'd been looking online and DH said 'just book it!'. It was pretty amazing and got loads of lovely pics. The sonographer had to send me for a walk around the block cos baby was in awkward position. Our baby seems to always have its legs behind its head so it took a while to get the pics! Oh and curiosity got the better of me and I found out I'm having a boy!

We're no closer to getting a buggy. Thought we had a winner with a mamas and papas pliko pramette but then read a review online of a women whose child got her hands stuck and had to be rescued by paramedics!

weston · 16/08/2009 22:22

becky yes to random trimester sickness, wasn't sick at all early pregnancy but randomly threw up at work on thursday, maybe a work allergy...but read diary from last time and did same around this stage so maybe there is some hormonal surge...

hobnob57 · 16/08/2009 22:47

I'll second the hormonal surge theory! No throwing up here, but feel very peculiar if I don't eat at the right time. Not nauseous, but a very definite sense of something not being right.

And getting sore eyes like eyestrain?

And much more likely to get teary over nothing than usual.

So sorry for you if you're being sick. Heaving with a bulgy belly must be less than pleasant [hugs]

I'm with whoever it was on the bladder front - no night time peeing here at all since 1st trimester, and then only a handful of time! Most peculiar.

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/08/2009 08:04

We're off to Charlbury tody to see all our old friends! Yeah! I'm excited. I just wish it was a bit closer - I've got to drive for about 5 hours all in all today. I'll pop in when I get back and probably moan about how exhausted I am. The DSs are very excited

Why do they call it a 4D scan? Surely it should be a 3D scan or is it because it is a video as well as just a picture so time is the fourth dimension? I'm a bit dim on these things! It does sound very exciting though.

I hope everyone has a fun day with well behaved babies in tummies, DDs and DSs!

OP posts:
Tamlin · 17/08/2009 08:51

I'm throwing up again too. Guess it must be some sort of lovely welcome-to-the-third-trimester thing? And hobnob, I do have really sore eyes, but I thought it must be a hayfever thing or something.

lemontop, congrats on your boy! (I imagine it's harder to miss with one of those scans than on the old black-and-white...)

Just found DS naked in the bedroom, carefully slathering his willy with gallons of my Body Shop cocoa butter lotion. People expecting sons, you have all this to come.
