Hello! Wow Trikken an hour?

I'm sitting here listening to TenCC the song about not liking cricket - reminds me of seeing them at last year's Cornbury Festival in the pouring rain. We are still in our jammies here - must get dressed before 10 o'clock for once these school holidays.

Hope you're feeling better this morning erika. Do you think your DP is finding it hard to come to terms with his newfound responsibility, or something else? Maybe going to the doctor would do him good. You need him as strong as possible to support you and Bryn in the next few months. (sorry if that sounds selfish)

becky poor you and your mum yesterday. hope you can find a babysitter for another day, it sounded like a lovely plan.

I have finally got myself motivated to do some writing and came on this laptop only to find it doesn't even have Word installed. (computer is broken) So back on MN for a change! It was going to be a skive anyway as I should actually be reading a book to review. Think I might take myself off to the park to do it, to stop myself from eating more biscuits and getting sucked into the Baby Name threads... still no boys names here, we're thinking of Anna or Hannah for a girl. Not sure if Anna is becoming very common though?

sleeplessinthecity · 13/08/2009 10:51

BBL ..poor you and your mum..i hope you can arrange another day and forget about yesterday...reminds me of the night before my wedding. We were all in a cottage, bridesmaids etc and mum told me to leave our "pre-nup" party at 12 and be home early..only to find that she and her mates had gone out with the key..we were waiting for 30 mins before they turned up in the cold Northern Irish night by the lough! BOY WAS I ..

Pav feel the same here..vvvvv tired and lethargic. Your building work must not be helping..

erika I hope you're a bit better this morning.

ErikaMaye · 13/08/2009 11:36

Trikken is it easy to put in place? I'm slightly tempted to take the buggy over with me and ask him to show me how to do it!

Thanks ladies Laugs, no, I don't think so. He had that freak out a few weeks back. Think he's just down. Don't think the impending fatherhood thing is helping, though! He said yesterday he's so sacred of not doing it "right". I like both those names by the way I know a few Anna's but they're all lovely!

Bryn cheered me up this morning - kicked my cereal bowl off my tummy! Am still giggling and picking up corn flakes. Just glad I don't have milk!!!

Trikken · 13/08/2009 11:46

Erika there should be rectangular plastic covers over the arms where the car seat fits on, (i say this as i didnt realise the holes were covered and took me ages to work out where i was clipping the car seat in. also i managed to break both covers off.) lift them up and it just pushes in, it will make quite a loud 'click' when in properly. should be easy but as i said sometimes will need a wiggle to get it in properly. I love the ease at putting this pram up and down.

katster37 · 13/08/2009 11:56

Morning. Did anyone else have trouble getting onto MN today? Mine wouldn't work for ages.

Pav I feel like that a lot of the time. In fact, my heartrate has been marginally faster since getting pg - apparently is fairly common. I wonder when the blooming phase will come

BBL aaaw at your mum!! Hope you can organise something for next week!

Mentioned finishing at half term to DH last night. He said I should still tell work I won't finish until later and that way if I am feeling ok, I can continue Don't think he realises how scared I am about managing just up to half term, let alone going back and risking going into labour in school/on the tube etc!! Let alone how I will feel. May have to start some serious moaning.

Car seats: we have got the Quinny Buzz from a friend so need a MaxiCosi car seat to go with it - had a look and there are a million! Did anyone have one before and could they explain the differences? I am feeling quite exhausted by it all!!

Stomach still not back to normal. Have constant indigestion/tummy ache since food poisoning. Am worried it has triggered IBS. Am having to eat small amount every 2 hours to stop it, but at least it's staying down...

ErikaMaye · 13/08/2009 12:01

Fantastic, thanks Trikken Just had a fiddle around, managed to get the covers off after a few attempts! I must confess I am totally in love with it. To the extent of stroking it when I walk past Its so easy to push and direct - I almost can't wait for baby to get here just so I can take him out in it hehe!!

Trikken · 13/08/2009 12:14

hehe it is good too push and can go over kerbs with ease, lol i sound like im a mothercare sales person. MIL 'borrowed' mine one day, which i didnt mind, cos i thught it was just for the day. but i havent had it back since which must have been a year ago. kept badgering dh to ask for it back but he keep she's just said she's cleaning it and going to bring it back soon, so hopefully she will because i miss it and not planning on using my rubbish chico spare one with the baby.(for chico users, its not all rubbish, i just dont like it cos the foot rest is in the wrong place and ds cant put his feet on it, which means he tends to put his feet on the wheels making it impossible to push.)

scarlotti · 13/08/2009 12:14

Afternoon

Very exciting hearing everyone talk about preparing all their things! We had a travel system last time for DS and I only used the car seat on it twice so I've not bothered this time. I have a bit of a thing about newborns being able to lie flat so preferred to take him out of the seat and lay him in the pram when out and about from the car. Did have (and still do) the car seat base though, and have to say that was a fabulous buy. Base stays securely fastened in the car and the seat can be lifted in and out really easily. Great for when you have other dc's or bags etc. DS used to sleep right through being taken into the house.

I dreamt of the baby the other night! Was very sweet (looked just like DS not surprisingly !) managed to feed him in the dream, one of my worries, but had also wrapped him up so warm that his body from the neck down was pillar box red!! Odd things these dreams!!
Am impatient to meet him now and still have 12 weeks to go

kaster I've put down 38 weeks as my leaving date but only as they will write my contract up until then. I seriously doubt I'll make it past 37 weeks to be honest. Is there any reason why your DH thinks you should work up until that late? You could tell him that anything from 37 weeks is term and not premature - that might help it sink in!

Trikken · 13/08/2009 12:15

ooh missed a bit out, meant to put dh keeps forgetting to ask. ds distracted me!

eeyore2 · 13/08/2009 12:43

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well today. I am on study leave at the moment as I have to take an exam for work on Monday. Starting to get a bit nervous now, can't wait for it to be over.
I had some lovely news which is that when I go back to work my in-laws would like to take the baby for one day a week every week, as a firm commitment. I'm so happy about it. So if I can negotiate a three-day week when I return to work, I would only need outside childcare two days per week, which I think would be great news for everyone involved. Does anyone else have an arrangement like this? Does it really work?
Scarlotti - what a funny dream! When I first got pregnant I had a few dreams where I had had the baby but forgotten to make any allowances or changes to my current lifestyle. So I would find myself in all sorts of strange situations and look down and see that I was holding a baby and not sure what to do with it. Probably shows a lot about my deepest fears...

helips · 13/08/2009 13:10

bbl What a shame about your day out with your mum. My mum is terribly forgetful too and I have gone round her house before when it's been arranged for me to do so only to find that she's forgotten and gone out! Hope you get to have your girly day out again soon.

Erika hope your dh feels better soon, it's good that he's going to see the doctor, must be a relief for you too. Lol at Bryn and your cornflakes!

laugs I love the name Anna and think it is less popular than Hannah at the mo. I am really struggling with boy's names, have been checking out the names threads but can't find anything I really love. Am starting to get worried, anyone got any suggestions?

Dh is back from Denmark today, hooray! I haven't been on my own though as I chickened out and got my parents to stay! Was nice actually, they helped out with ds and I got to have early nights without feeling guilty! I'm off to a spa tomorrow for the day and I can't wait. Dh has the day off work and will be looking after ds so they can have a father and son day whilst I relax with the girlies!

ErikaMaye · 13/08/2009 13:19

Scarlotti aww I seem to loose Bryn in my dreams... Or my cousin steals him!!! I'm getting impatient too, though everytime I think, "Oh do hurry up", I then think, "WAIT NO I TAKE IT BACK, I'M NOT READY!!!"

Eeyore Glad your in-laws are going to help

Thanks Helips Jealous of the spa day - have some pampering for me, too! Yey for your DH being back, too. Have you tried getting a baby name book? We got it just for a browse, really, but that's where we found Bryn I still like Dmitiri, but DP looked like he was going to strangle me if I mentioned it even once more

I'm just off to see this car seat - found out the couple I'm buying it off had their second child YESTERDAY I've tripple checked that its okay for me to go over, but they seem very chilled. Going to take her a card, I think

sleeplessinthecity · 13/08/2009 13:31

eeyore that is great news indeed...grandparents are wonderful and as long as they do as they are told (unlike my mum ) they are tremendous help. What lovely in-laws. Children learn a lot from nursery so it will be good to get a mix of care. At 9 months I put DD into a nursery 2 days a week 10-4 and she loved it. If I had in-laws or mum in the same country I would jump at the offer.

katster be honest with your DH..you will need some well earned rest before baby arrives to get yourself relaxed and put your feet up..I look back at my mat leave with great fondness..lots of sleep, lunches with NCT and other mum friends and lots of hob nobs and tea in front of Midsomer murders! I left beg of nov and baby due 11th Dec..

Laugs · 13/08/2009 13:32

helips your girlie spa day sounds great! I'm very jealous. If you find any boys names, let me know. All or favourite ones are other people in the family's names or really common. I didn't realise Hannah was popular, I don't know any.

katster I make sure I have a good moan at DH every day just so he knows how hard it is being pregnant. I normally cry too for good measure. (...if only I had any control over my emotions at the moment)

I went to read my book in the park, which was lovely until I realised the whole first chapter was about the protagonist's mother dying in childbirth. I cried big, fat, can't-try-to-hide-them tears the whole way through and sort of wished I'd stayed at home.

katster37 · 13/08/2009 17:15

Laugs, Sleepless and Scarlotti thanks for your advice re when to finish. It's really tricky, isn't it, balancing financial things with sheer exhaustion! I think as DH sees me get bigger, he will realise, and as my Mum said, the labour itself is exhausting and if you've been at work all day as a colleague had been last year when she gave birth at 38+5, you wouldn't be in a fit state to do very much!

Can anyone else reassure me that their babies have hiccups a lot? I have only just started noticing mine hiccuping, but it is happening about 2 - 3 times a day and I am worried it's a sign of distress or something! Not seeing the MW 'til Monday, or else I would ask her!

LAugs, don't think I could cope with that sort of book at the min! Am just reading Dawn French's 'Dear Fatty' at the minute, which is surprisingly good!

BeckyBendyLegs · 13/08/2009 17:15

Ohhh Laugs it is hard to read sad baby stories isn't it when you're pregnant? I can't read anything about children, babies, animals and cruelty, illness, death, etc. I can only read happy stories at the moment!

I feel bad for not doing enough with the DSs today. I've had so much work to do I have relied rather too heavily on TV. DS1 breaks my heart when he gives me a sticker for 'doing lots of work'. I'd rather play with him.

OP posts:
Trikken · 13/08/2009 17:19

what do hiccups feel like? ive never had anything that i've thought felt like the babys got hiccups.

ursigurke · 13/08/2009 17:41

Katster, I've never heard that hiccups would be a bad sign, as far as I know it is perfectly normal and just happens because they learn how to swallow.
Trikken, good question, I'm not sure either. The feeling that I'm usually interpreting as hiccup is like little, quite regular kicks. But then, in my case they are at such a high rate that I am not sure as my own hiccups would usually be slower.

BeckyBendyLegs · 13/08/2009 17:42

Katster yes they do! Or at least DS2 did. DS1 didn't. It just feels as if your belly is hiccuping inside (like little jumps). I don't think it is a distress thing - newborns get hiccups a lot too sometimes.

OP posts:
katster37 · 13/08/2009 18:30

Usigurke that is what my baby's hiccups feel like too - almost like a pulse in my stomach, regular and faster than adult hiccups. I think I am just becoming really paranoid at the minute! It is quite sweet really.

BBL aaaaw at your DS and giving you a sticker Will you have a less busy day tomorrow?

DH is at a work stag meal/do thing tonight and I am worried. He is rubbish when he drinks and I get really concerned about him getting home! Hopefully he will be sensible...

ErikaMaye · 13/08/2009 18:30

Laugs poor you! Next time pick a funny book. eh? I've just started "Dear Fatty", so funny already.

Got my carseat Am SO happy with it!!! Considering I got the buggy and the carseat for £60 all together, feels like a hell of a bargin to me!! I bought the couple a card and a box of chocolates. Their little one wasn't even 24hrs old when I went round, was born at seven last night!! But they were both so chilled about everything He said it was because it was their second, but still, am in total admiration...

Think my meds are kicking in, have been feeling fab all day!

helips · 13/08/2009 18:41

Erika yay on getting your car seat, you sound so organised, I really must get ds' old stuff out of the loft and have a good old sort through. Glad you are feeling fab today too.

Laugs sorry, didn't mean to imply that Hannah was too popular, actually I only know one little girl called Hannah it's just I don't know of any Anna's but they are both lovely names. Know what you mean about boy's names, my friend has just had a boy and used a name I love but dh wasn't keen on. However, now he says he likes it but don't feel like I can use it. Oh well, still got 3 months to have a think, girls names are so much easier though!

Am shattered, had a very busy day with ds, lot's of walking around and now I ache all over. Can't wait for my spa day tomorrow...

ErikaMaye · 13/08/2009 19:52

Helips - Organised?? ME?? Not in the slightest!! I have so much stuff I still need to do, and buy winces I am going to continue to blow my own trumpet about this buggy though, I now LOVE the Friday Ad haha!!! Again, at your spa day

Just been suggested DP and I stay with my Uncle and Aunt for the night before the family party (Haven't asked them yet, was another Uncle's suggestion) and wondered if you wonderful bunch could give me your opinion? They've been TTC for years now, and had their first IVF a few weeks ago. The embryo's have taken, the scan showed, but think she's only 5 weeks. She's already said that at first she was really jealous when she found out how easily I'd fallen pregnant - wasn't a nasty comment. I feel like if we stay there I'm kinda rubbing it in her face, and the idea of something going wrong and both of them still having to deal with my ever growing belly the night before and the night of the party worries me greatly. Would it just be easier if we stayed at the hotel? There isn't room at my Grandad's or other Uncles. Just wondered what you thought.

hobnob57 · 13/08/2009 20:43

Well helloo again!

katster you should definitely leave earlier. With my last pg I left at 36 weeks and was glad that I did. As a teacher, I found it almost impossible to feel like I was doing a half decent job by that stage, not because I was struggling that much physically (tho SPD was a challenge), but because my memory was so poor and I'd lost all interest and care in my work. Although DD took an extra 2 weeks to arrive and I was going demented and eating far too much chocolate, I really relished the opportunity to have a nap in the afternoon. You do get tired. I'm leaving at 38 weeks this time, but that is preceded by a 2 week half term so its 36 again for me. Why do you only get 2 weeks full pay??!!

pavlov what a nightmare. Be glad you're getting it over with now while its still warm and light and you still have the energy to deal with things. Our extension plans may well see work starting in November... Hope the builders behave for you now. You sound like you are knackered and need a 'mong day' as I would call it. I'm finding at the moment that I have a few days of energy and then really suffer for a day or two after that. Take it easy.

erika thanks for the buggy board offer but I got one second hand for a tenner a while back. Had to fork out £20 for connectors though

Hiccups - they are great fun. They start off feeling like rhythmical kicks. My DD had a tendency later on to have them with her head wedged against either my cervix or bum - a most peculiar sensation !
