As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh no! I was huge with dd. Luckily with it being winter when we are big I can hide away inside

jardins · 30/07/2009 13:32

Hello all, and apologies to Quirkychick* if you read this post twice!

I've made my decision. YIPPEE!

I've had a hard time of it: making decisions is always tricky, isn't it? The midwife I spoke to admitted that the results were confusing and that she would take into account the blood test 'high risk' which would indicate need for an amnio BUT she agreed my nuchal fold scan result was excellent (1.09) and that these results incorporated my age which gave me lower readings than I would have had otherwise. So none the wiser. I was all set to decide for the amnio when my husband called me from work. He had kindly called the doctor who had performed the ultrasound at 12 weeks. This doctor said that the odds were the same between 1/189 and 1/200 (of miscarriage following the amnio). He suggested giving me an appointment at 17/18 weeks for the anomally scan, which would give me another chance at doing the amnio IF NEEDS BE. Basically I will get the results of the scan at the same time as I would be getting the result of the amnio (minus the weeks of worrying about risk of mc). I feel so much more serene altho of course nothing is 100% but that, in my humble opinion, is pregnancy for you. Thank you for your support.

crumpette · 30/07/2009 13:46

quirkychick my work don't seem to know what a risk assessment is! A girl here is about 2 months ahead of me and she still hasn't had one, even though she told them before 12 weeks. Worrying...!I have been chasing them all week for cheque, as they now owe me 2 months, but had no response!

Argh! At this rate I won't even get maternity pay!

jardins that's a great idea and I'm glad you feel a bit more relaxed about it. It does sound like you should be OK but I understand lingering doubts you may have.

I too have broken into my maternity clothes but not many fit!!! I was thinner this time than last when I first got pg (size 8 and last time I was about a 12-14) so my trousers are enormous. I have to confess I am currently wearing maternity trousers to work (topshop, not too expensive... unlike my jeans.. ehem )it's a bit of a pain actually, I assumed I would be the same size!

Definitely no hiding it now though, colleague said to me in lift 9today, in maternity trousers and oversized top) 'you've suddenly got enormous!'

terrific..........

Dear Londonlottie have a fab time in France. Thank you for your post which has reassured me enormously having, of course, reached my decision prior to reading it, so don't worry; you're not responsible for my decision in any way.

I found the worse thing about making the decision - amnio or no amnio - was made worse by not grasping the implication of the numbers. We did tell the genetics specialist that we had not appreciated being asked to make a rushed decision in 24 hrs for something so vitally important.

HappyBump · 30/07/2009 15:31

Hi jardins glad you have been able to come to a decision you feel comfortable with. It really is a roller coaster, I do think it was probably so much simpler in my mum's day when they didn't even have scans let alone tests, etc. (I know there are benefits to advances in medicine, but sometimes, arrghh!)

I had to laugh at the post from someone about waking up this morning to find you look 6 months pregnant! I know exactly what you mean. How did it happen so quickly?, I'm only 14 weeks too with number 2 and that's my excuse. My MIL saw me over Skype and said "you've popped"... I didn't know whether to laugh or cry ... hormones obviously kicked in so I got secretly cross.

Anyway, I'm hungry again so am off to make some food...

timmette · 30/07/2009 17:38

Hi everyone I had a really bad evenng a couple of days ago with rather severe uncontrollable throwing up I stopped counting when it got to 10 times in 2 hours and have burst a blood vessel in my eye so my eye looks like it is full of blood and have a very spotty face from the throwing up - I felt fine again the next morning apart from being really tired. I don't know if it was pregnancy related or just random. Very bizarre.
Dh is a bit worried that I have now gained 0.5 of a kilo at 17 weeks and thinks it should be more.

Jardin glad you are feeling a bit better about it and it's getting resolved.

alibobins · 30/07/2009 18:44

timmette sorry you've been so sick. As for weight gain I wouldn't be too worried at midwife yesterday I've lost 8kg since booking but he wasn't bothered.

Not good news re dd's eyes so far the medication is not helping but they did say its still early days. Her left eye is showing some signs of the condition too

liny · 30/07/2009 19:05

hello,

well concerning weight gain, i'm also worried but because i seem to have taken more than the 1kg/month...
+6kg on the scale at the moment at 17 weeks so wondering how you all did in you latest pregnancies... I'm a size 10 and apart the "huge bump" I'm unsure where it has all gone...;-)
Going off to France this week-end so I'll get comments from my mum...

timmette · 30/07/2009 19:34

Hi Liny with my ds I gained about 6 kilos total but I had morning sickness day and night for 8 months - so not a good example. But I gained it all in the first 3 months.
Both of my sil's gained between 20 and 30 kilos - one of them gained this much twice and has lost it all both times and is a size 10.
I think you just gain what your body needs as long as you eat fairly reasonably and to be honest wouldn't worry about it.

quirkychick · 30/07/2009 21:05

Oh alibobins poor you and your DD. Sending you {{{hugs}}}

timmette and liny I have only put on about 1 pound (sorry in imperial) and am 15wks, but I have been quite sick. It was the same with 1st pg I put nothing on the 1st 3 months as was so sick then too. Went down hill from then on, though .

lynneevans51 · 31/07/2009 09:12

Timette and Liny - I put on a stone (sorry imperial) in the first 10 weeks!!!! Have only put a couple of pounds on since then and now 17 weeks. With DC1 I put on 4 stone in total and DC2, 2 stone. Both were lost fairly quickly (4 months back to normal), with a little help from the gym!! I'm not worried as clearly I always get huge with pg, just the way I'm made - child bearing hips I guess LOL !

somewhathorrified · 31/07/2009 11:16

OMG, I've hidden the scales because I'm too afraid to even look at them, nevermind actually stand on them! I reckon I've put on at least 2 kilos per boob and that's b4 I even look at the ever expanding bump line. Got 16wk MW appt in 2 weeks (at wk 18/19)so I guess I have some time left to live in denial and eat without guilt.

FlightofFancy · 31/07/2009 12:55

Thanks all for the advice on coughs - a couple of teaspoons of neat honey at bedtime worked a treat (tried not to picture my dentist's face!) and now feeling more normal!
Interesting to see other people's weight gain as well - have only put on a few lbs so far (14 weeks) so was starting to worry that it should be more (I love the way we find something to worry about whatever we do... too big, not big enough...). Haven't been sick, but am quite active. Tucking in to cheese on toast to help!

(did have to go through 'What to expect' and pencil in the imperial weights next to all the advice in kgs before it made sense!)

sockmonkey · 31/07/2009 13:41

I weighed myself in the spirit of this thread and I've put on 3lb. I'm about 15+3.

My sister came over yesterday with the maternity clothes...4 massive boxes full
It feels good to be out of my dungerees. I will have to set aside some time to go through what is in there...and clear out a set of drawers too by the looks of it.

quirkychick · 31/07/2009 14:50

Glad you're feeling better FlightofFancy honey/syrup just makes you feel better even if it doesn't help the cough IYSWIM .

I have just ordered a few more maternity clothes including £5 jeans from jojomamanbebe sale to supplement my clothes from last pg. SAHM now so a few of mine are smarter/work clothes rather than hanging out with small child in park/garden/at home clothes.

quirkychick · 31/07/2009 14:50

IYSWIM

maygirl · 31/07/2009 14:57

I've put on 5 pounds (2.3kg) and I'm 14 weeks. It's a bit more than I'd like as started off with overweight BMI. However last time started with healthy range BMI, but had gained almost a stone by this point, and in total gained 4 stone. Did lose it though, with lots of exercise and healthy eating (gained back some weight just recently before getting pregnant, stupidly!).
Not been sick and still fairly active, doing pretty much my normal gym classes routine, plus pregnancy yoga class and pilates dvd.

Eating very sensibly this time and hoping not to gain loads again, but I think I too just am made to get huge in pregnancy! I exercised loads last time, and still piled it on regardless! Got to fit into a size 12 bridesmaids dress 6 months after birth for sis's wedding next summer. She made me get the dress in a sale this spring. Decided to get a twelve in case was post-baby, at that point had no idea if would succeed in having DC2 before the nuptuals, but in fact was a few days pregnant!

Me too quirkychick, was just thinking I have no 'playground' maternity clothes! Had lots of skirts and dresses last time for my summer baby.

Sorry to hear about your DD alibobins, I hope the meds start to have a positive effect soon.

I think 1 stone of my 4 stone was water retention too anniemac, did you sweat it out post birth?! I lost pounds of sweat every night over a 2-3 nights a week after DS was born. Had to sleep on a towel. Not pleasant, but nice jumping on the scales next day to see half stone gone overnight!

quirkychick · 31/07/2009 16:14

Hi just to say I have had my combined triple and nuchal test results which are now 1/224. The cut off is 1/250 so I have decided to take the weekend to decide if I want to have an amnio next week. At the moment I am veering from it's a better risk result than my nuchal test alone so just be happy with it to just put my mind at rest and have the amnio. Will look again at ARC's website about antenatal testing too.

lynneevans51 · 31/07/2009 17:27

Quirkychick - ooooh, feeling for you. Tough decision and what a rotten start to the weekend for you.
