My first choice for a girl is Charlotte! Middle name deffo Iris, after my mother who passed away this year. Other front runners are Elizabeth and Isabella - but most votes coming in for Charlotte at the mo!!

Afternoon All!

Just popping in quickly to update. Had 20 week scan this morning and all is fantastic with the baby! Such a relief! And it is 100% a boy, no mistaking it!
DH and I are over the moon, now we just have to decide on a name! But plenty of time to go.

As someone else has said, cannot believe we are midway already! I only have three months left at work. Yay!

Plus had another chat with my consultant today and am pretty sure that I have decided to go the elective cs route. There are slightly increased risks from the previous cs due to scar tissue etc, but not large enough to make me reconsider.

Hope all had fab bank holidays
xx

somewhathorrified · 01/09/2009 17:45

Hey all, on the subject of names my DH's only suggestion is Manfred which he came out with at the scan....I nearly fell off the table! needless to say not a chance in hell is he making any contributions on that side of things if that's the best he can come up with! Personally I like Calib, Loki and Lucas atm, but I'm sure that list will grow. We had decided on Ripley for a girl...but a little winkie put pay to that idea.

When do you guys think is a good time to start buying stuff? I keep looking at re-usable nappies and prams etc on ebay but not buying cos I think it might be a little early yet...still got 4 months+ to go. I feel completely out of my comfort zone on it all, so not sure if I'm putting it off.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/09/2009 18:22

Buy away somewhat! My friend has a load of stuff to give me and I'm picking it all up on Friday, including pram! That way, I can sort through stuff and I reckon I've only really got cot abdn blankets to buy. Plus of course neutral newborn babygrows etc. The sooner the better to be organised in my book. Once you've had your scan, it's really just a matter of time isn't it.

chickbean · 01/09/2009 20:45

Hi - am I too late to join in? I'm due at the end of January and have my 20 week scan in a couple of weeks. Feeling so tired at the moment - think it's the accumulation of 3 months of DS1 (3) and DS2 (1) waking up at least once a night each. Bit worried about how lethargic and sleepy I feel during the day - hope it doesn't last too long - I have loads to do before the birth - the house is a tip and we haven't unpacked all our stuff from moving before DS2 was born.

Biccy · 02/09/2009 06:45

Morning. Welcome chickbean, I don't think you're ever too late to join - congratulations!

I am having a moment of extreme paranoia and hoping that by posting it I will change it, but, having been really busy, baby doesn't seem to be moving. Can't remember feeling him at all yesterday. I know the midwife said not to expect a regular pattern of movement until 24 weeks, and I am only 19, but it's freaking me out. Am going to work today, so sitting down most of the time and hoping to feel him then. Currently drinking coffee...

Anybody else had this - a few very active days, then a very quiet period?

We have moved office and my screen now faces into the room, so not sure I'll be able to post much, but will post when I get back home if not.

Biccy · 02/09/2009 07:06

Okay, calming down a bit, had a little thump just now.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 02/09/2009 07:33

Morning Biccy - yes, I'm 21 weeks and have some days where baby is VERY active and others where I forget all about it because there's nothing. Glad you got your little thump though to ease your mind!

Welcome chickbean - as Biccy says, never too late to join. We all chat away quite a bit, think some of us might be addicted to this site !

CRUMPETTE - post back if you're reading this!! Haven't heard from you in a little while and I woke up this morning thinking about you and your work situation (yes, i have the most odd nighttime thoughts and dreams at the moment). You really have to get the pay sorted ASAP because it can greatly affect your Statutory Maternity Pay. It is worked out, as I'm sure know, by taking into account your average weekly earnings during a set period, acccording to your payslip.

For anyone that's reading this, expecting a bonus, try to connive that you get your bonus paid in your eligible period!! I did that with DC2 and tee-hee, I was absolutely raking in the maternity pay. Anyway, I digress.... Crumpette - you must talk to the person in charge of your salary, and if that doesn't work, take it up higher and follow a proper grievance procedure. If you dont get any joy, tell them you have no alternative but to seek legal advice as they will not follow proper employment procedures with you.

Anyway, I woke up early this morning with all good intentions of starting a bit of housework, getting some household admin chores done and all I've achieved so far is logging on to MN!!! Ciao everyone.

verycherry · 02/09/2009 08:00

Morning all

Got back from 2 weeks in the south of france with dp and the 3 ds' on sun - lovely relaxing hols?? no sheer teen torture! ds1-15 and 2-13 were fairly sullen and made no effort to make friends (when previously they have been outgoing and sociable) and of course they know everything about everything!Arrrrggghhhh.

Spent sat night, half way home in Dijon, planning how to escape to train station to get train to Paris then eurostar on my own to escape them all!!! For the first time ever in my male dominated family I have felt excluded and isolated. I recognise this is cos the big boys are teens now and have more in common with dp, enjoy same films, games etc etc but that does'nt help...

Sooooo scan yesterday and yep you've guessed it another boy! I'll have 4 of them! yikes! He looks great, everything in the right place and I love him to bits already but....am sure when I have recovered from hols I'll feel more positive.

Just to compound it, though only a little bit, my placenta is abutting the cervical os so have another scan at 32 weeks to see if it has moved sufficently to deliver normally. Its posterior so more likely to be a slight prob but will more then likely move up. If it does'nt I'll be utterly gutted as won't be able to have a home birth and will have to have another managed delivery . My sensible head says as long as all is well with the baby then don't worry.

Now, names? what the hell am I going to call this one? ds2 did'nt have a name for 5 days, ds3 had his name changed after birth and this time my head is a complete blank!

Hope everyone else is well, I am thrilled to be having another and that my little boy is healthy just slightly sad to not be buying pink... that is ok isn't it? (am already considering no.5... but convinced it would be blue too!)

sleepingalot · 02/09/2009 08:30

Biccy we had new kitchen put in this March and had a pull out larder put in and I love it. Nothing pushed to back of cupboard that when you do decide to clean it out you find is 2 years out of date And it's amazing how much you can fit in.

londonlottie glad to hear the move went well, and twin girls, how exciting. Your pics are lovely!

I can really feel baby moving properly now...so strange but very exciting. DH was able to feel it yesterday too, which was pretty special.

sleepingalot · 02/09/2009 09:29

Didn't finish last post as had to drop DH off to catch train.

Hi chickbean and welcome.

Biccy I had about a week (the week before 20 week scan - so it was same as you 19wks) when I didn't feel anything. It may have been because I was a little anxious about scan - and it didn't help when they told me to come back for another one 2 days later! I was really worried BUT literally the the day after my second scan it became a real wriggler and it was the first time I could actually feel real movement - and from the outside.

This is my first and so all is new - but does anyone else think it is the most amazing feeling in the world!

somewhathorrified · 02/09/2009 10:38

welcome chickbean. biccy and sleepingalot I tend to find distinct movement is relegated to after 3pm and even then I only notice if I'm not moving around too much myself. And as if to prove a point he just wiggled.....typical! He's gonna be such a rebel.

bethoo · 02/09/2009 11:57

dont worry about movenment yet esp if your first. i am 22 weeks and there are days when i cant feel a thing but then it could be the copious amount of chocolate i am ingesting that is turning into a lovely extra layer of warmth around my expanding bump preventing me from feelign anything!

am jealous of the boy naming thing going on! we had decided on Lucas or Keiron (dp is irish) on the 1 in a 100 chance of it being a boy! looks like Skye it is though still not 100% sure but i did make the fatal error of allowing him the privelege of deciding the name! so now i have to think of a middle name to go! all i can think of is Blue! yes Skye Blue vertainly has a ring to it!

mowmi · 02/09/2009 13:39

Hello Ladies,

Sorry for the silence - just decided I needed to avaoid the internet after all the stress of the CVS etc... anyway I'm back in the game and have been catching up on all the scan news - Lottie the pics are so lovely - how amazing!

We've got our scan tomorrow + another heart scan (coz of the high NF result) keep your fingers crossed for us!

If a boy is confirmed tomorrow we're going for Harry - I know it's common but we love it anyway.

Hugs all x

bethoo · 02/09/2009 13:50

i cant get on londonlotties profile page to see the twin piccies!

crumpette · 02/09/2009 14:18

Hello all! cantthinkoffunnyname thanks for your post. I haven't actually read any of the thread as yet.. but yes work still being absurd, I have taken it as far as I can so far, I mean, the practice manager has been moaned at many times, the HR girl of sorts has been emailed at least 25 times, and I have also emailed and forwarded emails to the senior partner, who is clearly ignoring me because I am pregnant...sigh...

londonlottie massive congratulations on your twin girlies, how cute will they be!!??and hope the move went well.. you have probably posted about that so will have a read

well.. as for me.. work issues aside (aaaaaaaargh)
just got back from proper anomoly scan and...

it's...

a boy

I was told boy at the 12 week scan, but then the later scan they didn't tell me the sex and I did a DNA test which said 'girl' (so don't waste money on these they are clearly rubbish!)

It was cute though, had the correct number of fingers and toes and they did a 3d thingy as well so saw its face, very sweet, funny nose though..........

so much for naming him Juliet Alice or Sofia..!!!

bethoo · 02/09/2009 14:21

mowmi good luck for tomorrow. xx

sockmonkey · 02/09/2009 15:00

Just got back from scan. Everything as it should be. The boys were very entertained and sat eating pick n mix with DH. DS2 thinks the baby looks a bit scary from straight on hehehe.

The lack of anything dangly means it looks like a girl this time. I think DH is a bit put-out. He thought he only made boys. I was going to be happy no matter what, but I'm still refusing to go down the barbie eisle at toys r us

quirkychick · 02/09/2009 15:32

mowmi good luck with the scan. Good to hear from you too.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 02/09/2009 15:48

Crumpette - sounds awful. Suggest you go back to HR & Practice Manager and say that you really cannot be ignored anymore about this and the situation simply must be resolved from a legal perspective given your SMP will need to be worked out shortly taking into account your wages. Tell them that youre happy to talk to employment lawyers or ACAS for guidance if they feel that they need assistance.

lottie! I saw your pics SO cute, my one has a really squished nose in one picture and the other 3D one it is doing some moody pout pose.. very funny really.. still cannot fathom scanner but may get them up in the end. Parts of it were normal size (head, abdominal circumference etc) but it is apparently a midget.. legs are so tiny it's almost off the scale.. the dr did look at me and say 'it's the right size for dates.. er.. but it won't be very tall'

dreading to think what may arrive! I think I have been finding it hard since the scan accepting that it just won't be DD 'coming back' if that makes sense (for those who don't know, DD died in april at 14mths) so I suppose, with the DNA test saying girl I had this dream that it would be her as her identical younger sister, which kind of eased the pain of losing her as she wasn't really gone.. whereas a boy means she is really gone...

ooer I am sounding nuts

cantthinkoffunnyname thanks again for your post, my work are clearly doing it deliberately now due to the pregnancy and I am being emergencytaxed despite working there for 3.5yrs... ironically it's a law firm.. have decided to leave it now until the end of the month and then explode if it's not updated by then, as it will obviously affect SMP and I've had a bad enough year already they're being pretty mean I think! grr

Good luck mowmi

alibobins · 02/09/2009 17:18

Londolottie the scan pictures are amazing my 20 week scan pictures were a bit fuzzy.
Baby is going to be a boxer i'm sure he has little spurts of energy around now and 5 in the morning
We like Cameron or Thomas but nothing set in stone.
I'm nearly 23 weeks so getting quite a bump.

My baby is starting school on Monday and I'm dreading it and so is he don't know which one of us is going to be crying the most.

quirkychick · 02/09/2009 17:21

londonlottie and sockmonkey I completely agree about Barbie. Luckily my dd isn't really a pink girlie and I got heartily fed up with all the pastel pink stuff people automatically bought. Lots of people (particularly older people) thought she was a boy when I dressed her in red .
