As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

OP posts:

Bethoo I'm really sorry to hear about the dog - I noticed your post on the other thread. I have 2 dogs atm and would be very upset if anything happened to them (even tho I threatened to kill them last night!), I hope you get good news from the vet.

I got a really nice pair of grey work trousers from Red Herring for £5, Dorothy Perkins had a really good online maternity sale recently but most of the range was sold out when I tried to buy I have also found New Look to have a very good maternity section, at a very reasonable price.

Most embarassing thing to happen for a long time:
Have just moved into our new house and not quite used to the layout/it's position etc. So I got changed for bed after a particularly problematic night (cleaning old house for a viewing, moving large fish tank, coming back to an ant infestation etc) and was extremely tired. As I was about to wrap my dressing gown round I noticed I hadn't closed the venitian blinds in the hallway and a young man passing got a full-frontal of me . Thankfully it was after 11pm so not many cars or other people about!

Like one of the previous posters, I was getting worried about not showing very much at 19 weeks - especially when getting comments about "pulling my leg". Thankfully I'm having flutters today again, but I was seriously thinking about going to the maternity unit to get a heartbeat... I have a friend whose placenta stopped working for several weeks, so would rather be safe than sorry.

quirkychick · 12/08/2009 13:37

Thanks bethoo, I was thinking of a present closer to the time. I'm wondering whether to tell her after the 20wk scan, providing everything is alright. My parents are coming over then and I think she's going to guess with all the talk about babies. She actually has an imaginary brother at the moment .

I hope your dog gets better soon. A friend of mine's dog had cancer but lived on for another 5yrs until he was 15. So even if that is the problem it might not mean the end. Poor you.

bethoo · 12/08/2009 13:56

thanks, jsut got back from vets with my old man laid out on a pile of blankets. turns out just tummy upset but his spine is fusing together apparantly making it hard to move. once he is layign down he cant get back up. so dont know how i ma going ot get him to walk. will give him a few months and if it gets to the stage where he is more or less immobilised will think is this a quality of life he is enjoying? and i pointed out a cyst he has as the previous vet had said it was and when she stuck the syringe in to get fluid out she could not and confirmed it was a tumour though could not state whether benign or cancerous so may get it removed if it gets bigger. bless him, he is going throug hthe wars at the moment!
my fat puppy is flaked on the windowsill bless him!
back to baby talk, i cant feel movement really.
and how did the baby survive if the placenta stopped working for a few weeks? it must have been working to some degree surely? how frightening, the worst thing is you cant tell if it is unless you have a scan!

somewhathorrified · 12/08/2009 14:15

bethoo glad to hear pooch is at least back home. I have a human friend with the same thing, which you can have operations and drug therapy to alleviate how fast it progresses, just wondering if there's a canine version...maybe worth checking out.

quirky My SiL's used the technique of refering to the new baby as sibling's baby. That seemed to work well although a tad amusing when you go to visit and a 3 yr old tells you they're having a baby! But the result was siblings being given responsibilities relating to the baby when it's born.

Fraochsmum · 12/08/2009 15:38

Good news about the dog, but you are right to wait and see how it affects his quality of life.
Yes the placenta must have been doing something, but not properly as she gained no weight since week 20. She had to have the baby at 28 weeks, and she has survived this long (over 2 1/2 months, but obviously with complications) so hopefully everything will be alright. Very frightening indeed.

quirkychick · 12/08/2009 17:25

bethoo glad your dog is home, lots of canine cuddles for the poor thing.

somewhathorrified that's interesting, dd will be 4 when the baby arrives so will be quite independent. We have been using her imaginary brother to explore some things, ie a cot in her room (dcs will have to share).

Fraochsmum that is very scary! I had severe pre-eclampsia last time and so this time round I am scheduled a "small baby scan" at 28wks. Presumably to look out for this sort of thing as PE causes clotting in the placenta and can restrict growth.

crumpette · 12/08/2009 18:12

quirkychick am laughing at ''cheese''!

So I have had a slight panic, had really blurred vision on sunday night, and passed out dramatically (nice) to cut a long story short I ended up on the labour ward, they couldn't find a heartbeat... eventually they got a doctor in who managed to find a heartbeat but not with the doppler, only with stethoscope.

I have signs of preeclampsia already, I had it in my first pregnancy but not until later on. I have lots of protein in my urine and my bp was 148/98 which is pretty high.

SO I discharged myself, went to work the next day, where I had a lot of fluid leaking out... definitely fluid not anything else, no bleeding either. Didn't feel baby moving and bump has shrunk

Today I didn't go in but I called the hospital who told me to go there for monitoring. However the fluid loss (like a constant leak) has ended and was only present yesterday, so instead I drank an enormous icy cold full sugar coke, and the baby did kick me lots shortly afterwards which was a massive relief

the annoying thing is that when I walked in to work yesterday morning I overheard them saying I was obviously skiving! If only! I am just hoping that fluid no longer coming from anywhere and baby is ok but have a bag packed just incase!

Hope everyone is alright? lottie when do you move? I am moving away from denmark hill as well, in september, staying in london though! boring boring!!

quirkychick · 12/08/2009 20:48

crumpette I'm glad dd made you laugh, it did us! And it sounds as if you needed some humour, too.

How far on are you? I thought you got pre-eclampsia from 20wks on are you already this far? Wtf do you work they sound bloody awful! Could the hospital not scan you to find heartbeat/check fluid? I will keep my fingers crossed you, you poor thing. {{{{hugs}}}}

It's amazing any of us ever get pg with all the things that can go wrong, let alone do it more than once. But then you do get dcs and they are wonderful (most of the time).

Lottie I do have a confession- I was told boy in my scan, but then I wasted lots of money (error!) on one of those dna tests (required much finger-pricking-ouch!) and was told ?girl?, they claim to have 95% accuracy rate, but I do think it may have been a total con because it was so clearly with a long dangly bit in the scan!!

So I don?t really know at the moment. Problem with names, the only name I like DD had, and can?t use that again of course, and other names I like all taken by other people?s babies! Damnit, may be simpler if it is a boy!

Will find out at next scan, whenever that will be, should be 1st sept but may be sooner now.

Kings just asked me how much was leaking (definitely not discharge, sorry tmi!) they told me to go in again but it has stopped. I have definitely shrunk a lot though, I was surprised by pre eclampsia this early because I think it started at about 30 weeks last time. Am only 19 weeks, not 20 (I think!!). Anyway very long story, am now on antibiotics for a week as a precaution and on strict instructions to rest and go in to labour ward if any further symptoms. They didn?t seem too worried when I said I had felt it kicking. Seriously freaked myself out after googling it all.. GOOGLE IS EVIL!

Lottie it would be great to meet up for a decaf (haha) before you leave, weekdays are best for me as DP will assume I have some hot young boyfriend otherwise.. I will arrange some skiving from work , preferably permanent skiving actually.. hmmmm?

Oh Crumpette should you not tell them about leaking fluid especially if you are smaller now - or did I misunderstand and you did ell them.
Hi londonlottie I too have bought a pram and have started collecting the few things we need as they are much cheaper in the UK. And I know what you mean about a pram and csection pain - I couldn't manage my singe one for at least the first 2 months but I suspect you will have stitches rather than staples.

Fraochsmum · 13/08/2009 16:27

Sorry to hear about your scare Crumpette and at least you went to check it out. Sorry too about your unsymathetic work - unfortunately there are just some who are soles... I spoke to a lady at the weekend with a 4 month old and her work didn't even send her a card! And we live in a very small place!
Londonlottie you have my complete symathy with the move, especially with twins! We have just moved (albeit 100 yards round the corner) after decorating every room bar the kitchen and putting new heating system in. It just doesn't seem to stop. Good luck x
I woke up yesterday looking pregnant for the first time, which I was quite relieved at, not least so people remember that I'm expecting. Still, I woke up today and it's all gone so must have been bloating/fluid/wind etc tmi sorry!

somewhathorrified · 14/08/2009 10:16

crumpette hope things have settled down now, no more leaking etc. And your workplace sounds like a living hell.

I'm so far passed not showing! DH laughs at me every morning because my melon sized bump is all to the left of my tummy...looks really odd. On the plus side I really look pregnant and not just like I've been at the cookies.

Plastered the nusery yesterday so I think it's time to pick a colour...got yellow or lilac (left over pots)....thinking lilac as it's bright without being overly garish with dead of night feeding, not sure I could face yellow having had no sleep.

timette I didn't go back to the hospital despite their strong words of advice because I had felt it kicking and the leaking stopped, went to GP though, hospital has reeeally long waiting times, and got antibiotics which make me feel horrendous. Having a scan on Monday now I think.

londonlottie have been wasting time at work today how about this buggy as well!? it looks more lightweight www.baby-barn.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=silvcrss0006&cat=58 good to have a lighter one for flights and quick trips out, there are loads of really funky looking ones, so jealous I'm not having twins!

not entirely sure how they do the DNA thing, had a moment of madness and gave an anonymous company with no proper write-ups my card details! My blood was sent to california to be analysed, all very strange, there is a technique and the presence of doetal DNA can be detected at 7 weeks or something, so if Y chromosomes are detected they can say it's a boy and if none are detected they can say it's a girl. I still probably think boy though.. it is a bit early to think of names I guess but I cannot think of any that I like! I went off Juliet/Julia et al as I remembered the most annoying girl ever in my school, Juliette.. sigh... it's hard to shake such a bad association!

fraochsmum that's mean that your friend didn't get a card from work when her baby was born! I didn't get a card from my work when DD died though.. may think twice about going back from maternity leave!

timmette · 14/08/2009 11:16

londonlottie I am living in Europe already and have ordered everything to be sent to my sis in London so her garage is full . I will pick it all up from her later on. Although she thinks the neighbours all think she is pregnant - hehe.

timmette · 14/08/2009 11:19

Hi Crumpette ok as long as you're feeling ok - I also have a scan on Monday yikes will be almost 20 weeks then - half way there.

crumpette i really cant beleive how bad they treat you at work, to be honest i am horrified. especially after all you have been through.

Londonlottie you may not show til a few more months yet as this is your first pregnancy and yur tummy muscles are all tight so helps keep babies in there! unlike us who have had previous preggies the muscles remember what to do and more or less give up and flop out! . my dp pointed out just how HUGE i am! great, i am going ot be ginormous apparantly.

are third babies bigger???

since cant hit hte sales for regular clothes am splashing out on good makeup and must admit have spoilt myself though have no idea why i keep buying platform 6 inch heeled shoes! doubt i will be able to walk in them at this point!

my dog is now mobile so seems he still has life in him yet!

quirkychick · 14/08/2009 15:55

londonlottie I think of that too with Juliet. I like it, it is a good name that is not too popular but classic.

bethoo I absolutely agree about your stomach muscles in later pgs. I have photos of me at 6mths in 1st pg (not in maternity stuff) and I am definitely bigger now!

My mw was making jokes about the innocence of 1st pg today, I say I have to agree I was quite calm and serene with dd. This time around I'm not, to be fair I had a really rough ride 1st time, so I am more than a little nervous. However, bp is the same as all previous times, so no signs of PE yet. Heard the baby's heartbeat which was good. How are you crumpette? What do the hospital say?

Dizzyclarebear · 15/08/2009 12:59

hi all, baby kicking away and I can't be arsed doing the housework...

Quick question - anyone started using anti stretch mark stuff yet? got the clarins body tonic - not entirely sure how much and when to apply (woman at counter was bright orange so I was a little distracted and not really listening to her).

Oh and - back to the bra debate - went for my next measuring (was told to go back at 19 weeks) and found that John Lewis actually sell wire free bras that don't look like they are to be purchased for a) sportswear b) an occupant of a old people's home. And you can get matching pants!

timmette · 15/08/2009 13:57

Dizzyclarebear as far as I know no anti stretch mark stuff works - it's more a question of whether it is in your genetic make up to get them. A really good moisturiser is useful to help stop the itchiness you might get when you expand.
But oils are generally best applied to damp not wet skin.

alibobins · 15/08/2009 15:33

Well I can't believe i'm 20 weeks half way
I've got my scan on thursday hopefully will be finding out the sex lets see if my feeling is right.

Glad everyone is doing okay.
