Lovely story LBOT, you sound so happy.

Trying to defuse ww3 here. Ds2 has pulled ds1's train set apart. Roll on 7 and bed time!!

sorky · 31/07/2009 18:50

Diege the house looks absolutely perfect for raiding a large brood

Well done Ses!

Are LBOT's pics on the wagoners fb page ?I can't find them.

Moosy · 31/07/2009 18:56

Sorky, we have this one for DD1 and this one for DD2. The Britax is less faff to put in and out of the car but the Concord feels a lot more secure once it's in and is probably better safety-wise, it has a brilliant ratchet thing for tightening the belt

That's a great photo of O Ses, he looks so happy

bumpsnowjustplump · 31/07/2009 19:44

LBOT that is a lovely story it made me all teary.... (bump pulls herself together...

DS is loving food but isn't taking to purees.... So we are BLW mostly but still trying to spoon feed bits so he gets used to eating off the spoon... He is having a couple of spoonfuls or sticks of food a day. He loves broccoli and sweet potato.... Going to try spinach and ready break tomorrow (not at the same time though clearly..)

I am holding out on dairy until he is 9 months and gluten/wheat until he is 10 months just in case...

DD still has a temp but says she feels fine so i am not as worried now, if it was swine flu then i am sure it would have hit her by now...

Kayzr · 31/07/2009 19:46

DS1 has a new trick for not having to go to bed. He tells me he doesn't feel very well and he needs some jelly babies. So needs to come downstairs.

GruffaloSoldier · 31/07/2009 20:09

Evening all!

Congrats LBOT he is lovely! - does that mean I won the sweepstake thingamy??

Sorky - what is your job no worries if you don't want to say but it sounds very interesting!

Gyo - Glad you had a good 'day off'

Moosy - is the second car seat you posted able to be used rear facing until 4 years? I watched something on TV saying that children should be rear facing and that its really dangerous for the back and neck in car crash to be forward facing but there were very few seats on the market that can be used like this. I would quite like to get one that was rear facing for as long as possible.

Ses - will look at FB pics in a minute.

Diege - likewide will have a gander at your dream house in a bit!

Kayz - I def need jelly babies before I go to bed

Bump - sorry your health visitor is such a numpty. Hope your paediatrician can help.

Ooh my dinners ready so I better go as I always get told off if I dawdle when dinner is on table

Kayzr · 31/07/2009 20:19

Gruff we have this for DS2. It is birth to 4 years and we think we could probably use it rear facing until his legs get too long and he is uncomfy.

Kayzr · 31/07/2009 20:21

Oooh but that Concord one that Moosy posted looks lovely. All those colours!!

Kayzr · 31/07/2009 20:23

Sorry to post 3 times in a row but just found out that Isabella Oliver have started a normal non maternity range!!

essenceofSES · 31/07/2009 20:24

OMG!!! Need to look even more fab now as I've just got off the phone from my friend and - as her family from America aren't going to be there - she's asked me to do a speech at the reception in place of the "father of the bride" speech!!!!

Am v honoured and happy to do it but peeing my pants already!!

LOL at Freddie and Fruff needing Jelly Babies to go to bed!!

Bumps - hope DD gets back to 100% soon. Sounds like weaning is going well.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 31/07/2009 20:24

LOL at DS1 Kayz!

LBOT - So pleased that you didn't have to go to a cs, I'm sure it was a knackering experience but it sounds lovely too ! Congratulations to you all!

Bump - sorry DS and DD (? - have I got that right) have been poorly, sounds like DD is on the mend.

Ses - that dress is gorgeous, not sure I could pull it off... very

GYo - sounds like you had a lovely spa day

I can't remember much else, soooo sorry...

Haven't been feeling too great last few days, yesterday was terrible, today a bit better. I phoned the MW at the hospital (only number we're given) and they said to come in for an 'MOT'. Had to take DS but he was a perfect angel - the staff were lovely, which is an unusual experience, they did all the standards - blood pressure, temp, urine, pulse etc - all normal, then 25 mins of fetal heart tracing, movement monitoring etc again - all normal, then a quick ultrasound - didn't get to see anything though, baby is footling breech with face turned in! But, baby growth all showing fine for my weeks etc.

I don't need to be worried about baby being footling breech do I? Its just that it was in that position at 20 weeks too

Do I have to start doing headstands?

OP posts:
Moosy · 31/07/2009 20:38

Gruff, both of the seats are rear facing up until 13kg (about 2yo in our case!) then forward facing up to about 4 years. I've never actually seen one for sale that's rear facing up till 4yo

Good to hear from you STT, sorry you're feeling poo but glad all's ok (if a bit topsy-turvy)

GruffaloSoldier · 31/07/2009 20:40

Thanks for that Kayz - I will def look into those then.

Ses - wow that is an honour! when is the wedding again? Dont know if you need inspiration but there are lots of good websites out there for help writing with wedding speeches.

Hi STT - going on all fours and arching back is supposed to to turn breech babies. There is another position that helps but I can't remember it!

Ok. Has anyone started weaning at 4 months? and when we say 4 months do you do 16 weeks or wait to the exact date born of that month iyswim?? GC is constantly munching on hand and dribbling (he is teething though too) He takes his milk ok but coz of silent reflux he does often struggle to take it all. At night he used to sleep through 11-7 now he wakes at 4.45am every morning and grizzles with his eyes shut (ie he wants to be asleep). I increased his 10.30 feed but he still doesn't want to have it all.

I was thinking about giving baby rice to see if it made any difference. But Im not sure. I know this would be ignore the guidlines but now there is research come out that it can be just the same if you wait too long so I'm thinking I should ignore everyone else and be led by him but are these really signs of hunger or something else?

Arghhh its driving me mad

GruffaloSoldier · 31/07/2009 20:42

Apparently there is 1 available Moosy! Just 1 though

Im off to google it

GruffaloSoldier · 31/07/2009 20:52

for anyone interested in the car seat report it is here

Sparklytwinkletoes · 31/07/2009 21:04

Hi GS - sorry, I didn't realise you had posted before I had then was all confused when I came back to the thread!

I'm one of the ones that stuck it out to 6 months, simply because I have a lot of health issues and wanted to make sure I didn't put DS at any risk of getting any either.

I'd say that the munching on hand and dribbling is more about teething than hunger, weaning doesn't actually do much to 'fill them up' because milk remains the main food for quite some time. Its just about experimenting with flavours and textures, IYSWIM.

It probably won't affect the sleeping a whole lot either, more likely to be a growth spurt - but I'm sure there are other wagonners more experienced than me to help on this one!

Starshinetiger · 31/07/2009 21:05

Hey Gruff, I am no expert know bugger all but I guess it depends - are you feeding him at 4.45am and is he then taking all of his normal feed at 7am and his normal feeds during the day? If not, suggests is not hunger - could it be that the dawn is waking him, methinks sunrise is around about thatish time at the mo? Will he grizzle himself back to sleep? I'm really cautious about weaning and will do my darndest to wait to nearly 26 weeks with DD, but then again we have lots of allergies/intolerances in my family. She has also been chewing her hands and anything else she can lay her hands on for last few weeks (she's 20 weeks on Sunday - where has the time gone?!) and is showing great interest in food, but I'm holding out for now. Think she is teething too, as she is dribbling lots and gums feeling sharper. My personal opinion would be to hold out longer and I know that my HV (against the grain she is the only good HV I've ever met and I really rate her for the support she's given) said to wean at 18 weeks earliest (even though I had not said I would start weaning). I know lots of people do start weaning earlier. It is also quite common for sleep to start going backwards a bit at 4 months unrelated to food. Also, someone on the March postnatal thread posted about wonder weeks - these are where they are developing particularly fast (or some new skill or some area of them?!) and they can become extra grizzly/upset/disturbed because of it and one of these commonly occurs around 16 weeks - could Gruff cub be in a wonder week?! That's just a download of everything I know related to your query, as I really need to be getting on with my ironing, but maybe some of it makes sense
Sorry - no answers for you, but just some info that might be of use in your decision making!

LBOT - huge congrats, well done you on that tremendous labour. T is gorgeous. Will request you as a friend on fb if that's okay.

Kayz - belated well done on driving lesson!

Diege - house is gorgeous!

Starshinetiger · 31/07/2009 21:06

to everyone else - must get to that ironing

Sparklytwinkletoes · 31/07/2009 21:08

Oh good god, I am so crap, sorry, that's not supposed to imply that if you wean before 6 months that you are putting your LO's at risk - I just meant that I did everything by the rules as then I wouldn't be able to look back with regret and wonder 'what if', so very personal reasons. He could of course still go on and have issues, but I wouldn't have to worry that it was because I didn't follow the rules.

Can you tell I was the 'square', goody-two-shoes rule-abiding one at school?

Sorry.

sorky · 31/07/2009 21:09

He's going through a growth spurt and is likely teething, this will knock out his sleeping pattern ime.

The current guidelines are 6mo, a babys gut is not mature enough for food until the gut is sealed but as you say It's your call.
I weaned both ds1 and dd1 at 4 mo as that was the advice I received. With the info I have now I wouldve waited until 6 mo then as well.

You could post up on feeding but they'll likely give you the same answer I'm afraid, it's your choice though.
I posted up when dd2 was 5mo and feeding like a fiend etc.

He will settle back into his routine in a week or so, he might just need more feeds or more milk at each established feed and some teether toys in between.
Food won't make him sleep any better ime

It isn't nice when they are grizzly and out of sorts, I hate teething with a passion!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 31/07/2009 21:12

Oh good - more experienced waggoners who said it all much better than me!

Kayzr · 31/07/2009 21:15

Gruff, My HV said to me when we were talking about DS2 weaning that is is BF babies that should really wait until 6 months. She said that she recommends that BF babies shouldn't be weaned before 6 months but FF babies can be done a bit earlier. Never before 5 months she said to me.

GruffaloSoldier · 31/07/2009 21:16

Thanks so much for replying, STT and Star.

I will hold out then I think. I have fed him at 4.45 before but then he wouldnt take his 7am feed. wouldnt feed til 10am a lot of this is down to silent reflux though. he does struggle with getting milk down.

i did wonder about daylight. we do have black out blind but they are not very good! this would make sense actually as it is around the same time every day!

I could put him in his own room but I while he is unsettled I prefer to have him near.

hmm... will ponder some more. What spurred me on was his hand was going a bit raw where he munches just got to try and stop him I suppose.

Thanks so much for help anyway!!!

sorky · 31/07/2009 21:17

Meant to add to that, that developmentally 4mo is quite significant, head control is good and they are getting some trunk stability and hand/eye coordination as well as rolling. Exhausting work!!

GruffaloSoldier · 31/07/2009 21:26

thanks sorky and Kayz too!

I forgot to say I have started using ashton and palmers??? teething powder. hopefully that will help. Have purchased teething cloth gum cleaning thing and teether so have been using those too.

what got me worried was all the people i know in RL started at 4months, some before and a lot of them related to DH. problem is thats what the guidelines said back then so was right at the time!

a friend said today that some research now suggests that waiting to 6 months is thought to be bad now. you can't win! although I havent read anything myself so maybe it could just be hear say.

thanks for all your advice especially Sorky as you have given me hope that it could be better in a week as at the mo it feels like forever!
