Sorry Tink, I've always used Pampers (except a very short spell of using morrisons own - they were very good when DS2 was at an odd size, but then he grew out of them in an odd way and so we went back to pampers)

Very occasionally get a leak, usually if he's pointed his willy up!

Diege · 02/07/2009 14:47

Thanks NAT, that's sp interesting about bm, and makes sense I suppose! How clever! Only noticed when I looked at what I'd expressed and thought at first is was condensation from the steriliser . I am so with you on the phine call thing - I am feeling on your behalf, that's appalling. I'd get them to refund your telephone if you made any outward calls too, and also write a letter as these tend to have a greater effect.
TINKS, re: pampers I'm on midi newborns with Jacob, which I have to say sit rather high on the waistband, a la Simon Cowell but the smaller size left red marks on his chicken drumstick thighs. DD3 is in the easy up pants for bed, but have fondest memories of active fit - a great nappy that actually did what it claims to do!
Re: willies, am still fascinated by Jacobs, as are the dds ; hv told me to make sure it's pointing down in nappy - hadn't a clue, but she called it his 'tail' - how cringey!!! Is this normal speak in boy langauge

Sparklytwinkletoes · 02/07/2009 15:02

Diege - lol at 'tail', my MW and HV referred to it as his willy, so that's what we call it too. its what they call it at nursery too, so that's helpful.

DS seems to have mastered the potty now for weeing, we haven't had an accident for a couple of days, the poo's persist in the pants however . Nursery says this is quite normal and I'm very proud of him for how well he's done getting all the wee's in the potty at only 2.6!

We've always used tesco own active fit (which I think are made by pampers, but I could have made that up ) all the others leaked on DS - especially when he was tiny and had super runny BM poo! Now we are using tesco pull up pants and they are good too - he wears these overnight and for his afternoon nap. Oh, and if we're doing a long trip in the car.

I second what NJ says about the BM being watery, its your body knowing that J needs more liquid in this heat and responding accordingly - make sure you keep drinking loads and loads of fluid to keep you both super hydrated. When the weather cools down again you should notice it 'thicken' up again.

NJ, I put the photo of the DS' on the FB Wagon account - hope that's OK? Let me know if you still can't find it...

IDOB - I am very jealous of your parents gift for you!

LBOT - Not long to go indeed! Must be nearly time for a syndicate surely?

NatalieJane · 02/07/2009 15:21

Ewwwww, tail? Always been a willy in our house, well at least in front of the boys!

STT, he is doing really well I'm not on the wagon FB, have never got my head round it.

Am now eagerly awaiting the fifth phone call, am ready to do some damage, or at least insist on speaking to the supervisor again! I was very rude to him, always feel bad after, but he's there telling me he see's no reason to put me through to a supervisor, even after I'd explained about all the calls (8.45 last night last one yesterday, 8.10 this morning first one!) and used the word 'harrassment' about 10 times, and he's still banging on that he see's no need to put me through And then he put the sodding phone down....... am willing it to ring now!

Kayzr · 02/07/2009 15:25

Diege, Do a rain dance!! I'll join you!!!

We use Asda own nappies. Pampers bring both of the boys out in rashes.

Just been upstairs for a lie down. Got a dreadful headache and I was trying to get rid of it.

Mum has bought the car for my brother and me to learn in. Very Very excited!!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 02/07/2009 15:25

NJ, if they ring back again, say that you need their office address, and when he asks why, say because you've asked them to stop phoning you, but because you clearly haven't been taken off their list, then you are being harassed and have no option but to report them to the local trading standards office. And ask him again, to please take you off their calling list.

That usually sorts them out.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 02/07/2009 15:26

Alternatively, the line:

"and which part of 'don't call me again' does your company not understand?"

is also quite effective .

not to mention satisfying!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 02/07/2009 15:28

Oh, and NJ - check your mobey

Diege · 02/07/2009 15:30

That sounds great adviuce STT for Nat - oh and make sure you get his name, they always love that
Great news about the car GLASK! Will you both be taking lessons at the same time?
Agree, tail is ewwwwww...I mean how confusing is that Sticking with willy here too! Must try not to snigger when she visits next..
Well sleeping baby phase finished for today - he's awake!!! - and now of course I wish he were sleeping
Still amazed over the bm thing - have gone from doubting my body to being in awe! I mean, how does it know??

NatalieJane · 02/07/2009 15:57

Kayz, very exciting! I rang about me starting driving yesterday, bloke I was recommended is too busy to take anyone else on, but he's given me the number of another one who he says is great. Only got till October, I should really get on top of it! If you're interested, he said the DSA have a practice theory test thingymebob on their website, it's £6.99 for a months use, 24/7, he says the CD roms etc. are good but this is the best, it covers the whole 1500+ question bank, and it put's you in almost the same setting as the theory test (when I took my theory test it was all touch screen, so I guess he means the pages look the same as the official test!)

Have asked their names everytime, if it's a man, they are always called Adam, if it's a girl it's always Sarah. (Never mind it's usually from an Indian call centre, shouldn't imagine there are many Adam's and Sarah's in the whole of India, let alone every single one of them working in that same office! Wonder if you are only aloowed to employ Adam's and Sarah if that is Nameism?)

NatalieJane · 02/07/2009 16:00

Sorry pressed post too early!

STT, have looked - thank you

Diege, how does it know? Clever boobies, I already said! No it is because you're warm, the milk is always adjusting, same way in which it changes over time to suit the needs of the baby as he grows. Would love to know how that works with tandom feeding though!

NatalieJane · 02/07/2009 16:01

LMAO, have just spotted 'aloowed' don't know why but that has tickled me

GYo · 02/07/2009 16:06

Hello

Butting on BM chat, was wondering if there would be any need to give a small amount of water as well as the clever BM.. I know its usually a no but given the extreme temps?

Anyone else have issue with DC getting v hot BFing close to your body... feel like she starts off ok but ends up roasting after a feed! Gruff suggested a muslin between us but my arms are still hot. Any suggestions?

Hello Diege, STT, Tink, NJ, IDOB, Ses and everyone else.

NatalieJane · 02/07/2009 16:15

GYo, you could try with a little cooled boiled water, but I doubt she'd take it, and really speaking as long as she is feeding well she shouldn't need it. BM does a great job all on it's own

When I was BF DS1 it was hot like this, I used to have a cold flannel ready and just kept wiping him (and me!) over with it, or lie down and feed him, I found we weren't as close as him actually being on me.

GYo · 02/07/2009 17:38

thanks Nat. Will hold off and try more lying down feeding. Always good for a mini nap for me too

juleshatesalltheheat · 02/07/2009 18:08

god nat i hate those companies keep getting them here i always hang up straight away after picking up when irealise it is a company. my friend blows a whistle down thel ine

think i will stick with pampers active fit in the daytime and pampers baby dry in eve

off to tesco and 7 for yummy food

Sparklytwinkletoes · 02/07/2009 18:12

GYo, just a thought, if you're out and about, and therefore can't do lying down feeding to achieve 'coolness', you might try using a cotton pillowcase instead of a muslin, I know they are both made of cotton - I just seem to find it a cooler material, IYKWIM?

Also agree with NJ that water's not really necessary if she's still feeding well, as long as she's still producing loads of wet nappies, you'll know she's getting enough. Don't worry about the number of poos though, this will slow down whilst the milk 'thins' to provide more liquid than fat. If you are worried, a little cooled boiled water wouldn't hurt. (Def not mineral water though as its not good for them apparently).

Kayz and NJ, driving lessons sound good, having visited chez-NJ I can totally see why having a car would be like a break for freedom!

Hope you've all had good days. DS is cuddled up right next to me on the sofa - he doesn't seem to feel the heat - I've had to tear my fleecey blanket (kept on the back of the sofa for cold winter evenings) away from him as he was starting to glow!

Also, I clearly spoke too soon about weeing in the potty - since he's been home we've had two wee accidents and one poo . Ho hum, on the plus side, the poo was very fresh when he announced it so no staining on the pants and the wee's were more like leakages than full on accidents, so no need for carpet cleaning - phew! its too hot for that!

My folks are arriving soon for the weekend, so don't be surprised if I fall off the radar for the next few days - we're starting on the conversion of our spare room to a new bedroom for DS.

Its going to be a mammoth task, starting off with emptying it, then stripping wall paper, the nasty polystyrene coving, the woodchip paper off the ceiling (I know - the ceiling!!), DH is going to re-route the pipework for the radiator so it runs under the floorboards, oh, new skirting board too. I'm not going to let him take the door off though until he's put the door on the 'nursery'. Its been leaning in the doorway for the past THREE YEARS!!! Then we're going to cove, sand and fill the walls, put new skirting board in, paint, new carpet and RELAX.

Well, almost, I expect we'll have to buy new furniture too, and that will be flatpack. The joys

GruffaloSoldier · 02/07/2009 19:30

Hi all

Have just managed to get on for first time today as have been very busy! Was tidying the house with DH this morning so was nice for when my NCT ladies came around and then had to quickly have lunch and sort GC before they arrived! Had a really nice afternoon though.

I have added a few photos on FB wagon as I hadnt before - nothing that isn't already on my FB but I thought I would anyway!

Right I think I better get on with reading the chat from today here it goes!!!

Hope everyone ok!

bumpsnowjustplump · 02/07/2009 21:16

Well day got a bit better. I remembered i had an old buggy in the loft (quest) so got that (god if you thought it was hot outside try going up into your lofts!! I was thinking of calling it a sauna and charging people to come around...) and went down town on the bus. Jessica was in buggy and Owen in sling. Got tax and done a small shop for essentials. Came back on bus and had a water fight in the garden with dd.... Great fun!!!

Owen fell asleep in the sling and was in it for 4 hours it was so hot but nice to have him so close and still be handsfree.....

Car got fixed but AA man said to get rid of it asap as the head gasket is on its way out and if that goes its bye bye engine....

So we are going to have to put the new kitchen on hold (ours looks like it is as old as the house which is over 200 years old) and go looking at cars.... bugger...

Sparklytwinkletoes · 02/07/2009 21:58

Hi bumpy, glad your day got better and glad your car got started again. Good that the AA man was so honest about your car, at least that gives you an opportunity for a part-exchange.

I bought my car just about a month ago now, and there are some really good deals out there at the moment, especially on second hand cars. Like I say, just wish I could help.

Good knews about finding the buggy in the loft - Dh is refusing to go up in ours at the moment as he knows what its going to be like. Water fight sounds like just the ticket after your start to the day! Glad it turned out better.

And 200 year old kitchens are like home made cakes - full of their own 'natural charm' and 'character'

bumpsnowjustplump · 02/07/2009 22:22

STT you have a lovely way of putting it... I will say that to dp when he starts huffing and puffing about it

How are you feeling now? Are you still feeling down? Must be tough being pregnant in this heat, carrying ds in the sling made me feel so sorry for all pg ladies at the mo it must be so tough...

Can I be nosy and ask what car you got? We have a Land Rover and dont want another 4X4. We were thinking Renault as they have a 5*encap safety rating but not sure...

Sparklytwinkletoes · 02/07/2009 22:33

I'm much better thanks, my nose seems to have dried up and the headache is on hold just out of reach! No-where near as grumpy either, though DH might argue with that

I'll talk to you about the car on FB if that's OK? Heading over there now....

bumpsnowjustplump · 02/07/2009 22:50

Thanks STT

Kayzr · 03/07/2009 06:46

Morning,
My brother drove round with Mum and her DP in the car last night. He is so nervous, Mum says he is a fab driver but he gets so scared.

I have been awake since 4! I couldn't get comfy, was too hot, DH kept trying his luck. I think I might invest in a cattle prod, it is far too hot for sex IMO.

Going shopping to Leeds today with my Mum. We are going to Ikea on the way home! Must not spend all of the tax credits. Boys are going to see MIL with DH.

I have decided that if MIL will have the boys then I am going back to work. Just 3 days a week and we're probably going to put my wages in a savings account. If we can afford to live without using them then I won't go back after DC3.

Hope everyone is well!

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 03/07/2009 07:25

Morning!

Kay - lol at cattle prod!!
Sounds like a good plan re work and savings. How easy is it going to be with MIL looking after the boys?

Bumpy - what a horrendous morning you had yesterday. Hope today is much better.

Nat - wow! What clever things boobies are!!

We went to Bumps&Babes yesterday afternoon. There was a lady promoting Jo Jingles there. She did a half hour session with us. I know some of you (Diege?) go regularly. It was quite good but DH is v anti me spending money on that sort of thing. We're lucky as Baby Cafe and Bumps&Babes are both free.
