Evening all. Had to go to GP this afternoon because I am in agony with my boob. He took one look at it and gave me AB and said it is a nasty case of mastitis.. It feels like glass is coming out of it when ds goes on.... DP sat me down and said that if this is the end of me bf then I have done an amazing job and not to feel bad about it, most people would have given up ages ago... (first time he has supported me in the last four months) But I am popping AB and pain killers and hope to ride it out...

STT I have appointment at hospital in july for DS until then I have to wait it out. He is so clingy and just wont be put down which would be fine but DD is getting so left out... Bless her she only wants daddy now because I am always busy... I hope we can get back our closeness once ds is more stable... any advise from those with more than one would be very welcome...

Gruff you done so well with your bf please dont feel that you let him down, DS is breast fed and is always ill so dont believe all you read!!!!

Sorry about the rubbish self pittying post i will get over myself once I get some sleep!!!

sorky · 22/06/2009 22:17

bumpy.

Sounds like it could be the ECS's that some of you've had that could be responsible for the struggles with BF. Could be the body goes into shock which delays the milk, just musing really.
Glad you're all healing though

I have 2 little ones teething here. It's the one part of child development I truly hate!
Dd2 is desperate to sit up ATM, she can manage a few seconds but then starts to wobble

See you at 4am GYo hehe x

GYo · 23/06/2009 03:22

Hi everyone

you lurking yet Sorky?

Sorry for mastitis bumpy sending over steaming mug of tea with virtual real milk.

Gruff- wow sounds like you've had a rough time of late. Looking forward to seeing you and the GC tomorrow though

STT- enjoy visit to Nats! sorry to hear you have such bad allergies, what a nightmare for you. Do you get a full blown reaction to them?

I had an exDP who was allergic to peppers (though i always thought he just didnt like them as he had very limited palate)regardless it made life really hard at resturants etc when getting side salads etc.

Hi Diege, glad you are ok. Sorry to hear your milk supply hasnt arrived though.

Off to lurk on MN for a bit

PS DH is snoring next to me. Is it mean to poke him hard?

GYo · 23/06/2009 03:43

Sorry Ses- are you lurking too?

I had similar issue with not being able to put down DD. We were given a bouncy chair with vibrate function which was fab for this and she loves for short periods. Means I can put her in kitchen with me whilst i make lunch and do stuff

Kayzr · 23/06/2009 08:08

Morning!!

STT, Your MW is nuts!! I'd ask to change if I was you!!

Diege, Hope going through your notes helps you.

Nat, Hope you had a great birthday!!

Nat and STT, Have a lovely time together!!

Gruff, You haven't failed, but I do know exactly how you feel. It does feel like you have failed when BF doesn't work out how you want it too. Did you know that they are making you into a film???

Sorry to anyone I have missed. Not awake at all due to bad night sleep wise. Not the boys but me!

Well the hangover has gone. I didn't feel better until 9pm Sunday night. So spent yesterday playing with DS1 as I had been feeling so rubbish Sunday.

Hope everyone is well.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 23/06/2009 08:30

Morning!

GYo - we have a vibrating bouncy chair too and actually most days DS will go in it for 10-15mins about three times a day. Yesterday was a particularly bad day though and he wouldn't settle in it at all. He did just seem to want to feed all day!

I've woken up with a sore throat today. Hoping it's hayfever related and nothing else.

Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary (3yrs) and I'm hoping to cook DH his favourite meal. He should be home about 7pm and my cousin has offered to come round about 5pm when she's finished work to help with DS whilst I cook. DH has been asking for weeks for me to cook him a curry and I've refused as I was concerned about curry getting into BM. I'm going to try and express extra today and tomorrow so that won't matter. I've also ordered his favourite bottle of wine and some onion bhajis.

I have my 6wk check later this morning.

Bumpy - can't believe your bad luck. Hope the ABs help clear up the mastitis quickly. I had a blocked duct at the end last week which was painful enough but at least at the end, it produced a white blister that I burst to resolve things and within an hour or so it was back to normal.

Diege - you've definitely done the right thing and STT has given you some good advice. Hope Jacob had a good night.

Sorky - think you're right about the CS affect on milk and those with GA too will be even more so.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 23/06/2009 08:34

Sorry Kay, x-posted! I'm on my phone and feeding and that last post took me for ever!!
Glad your hangover has now cleared up!
I also heard this morning about the animated Gruff being made - out at Christmas!

GYo · 23/06/2009 08:46

Morning Ses

Annivesary meal sounds lovely. Do you cook from scratch with the raw spices? I love to make curries but have only used pastes in the past so Im looking at starting off with the herbs etc.

Hope DS is more settled today so you can get your cooking done.

SOrry you are still sleeping badly Kay. Hope it passes soon.

DH still asleep. despite him getting up with me at 8.15am when I put DD back to her crib after her first feed. He went straight to spare room and has gone back to sleep....

Morning everyone else.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 23/06/2009 09:03

I actually use pre-prepared spice packs from a shop in York (funnily enough!). I stock up when visiting friends up there and they brought some down for us at the end of May. The shop is Rafi's Spice Box. Do any of you in/near York know it?
They make up each pack as you ask for it in the shop to the strength you want. For example if you ask for a jalfrezi, they put the ghee, herbs and spices in and how strong you want it will decide how many chillies they'll chop up and put in. The packs can be frozen and can also be ordered over the Internet. At home you then add your diced meat and/or vegetables and perhaps a tin of tomatoes or creamed coconut, dependant on your chosen curry. Each pack normally has cooking recommendations on it, gives enough for 4-6 people and costs about £4.50.
Sorry that was a v long answer but they are great packs!!

GYo - if your DH is still in bed, go wake him up!! Is he still on hols from work?

bumpsnowjustplump · 23/06/2009 09:12

Sorky I too have two teeting. DD has been getting up in the night loads recently and couldn't work out why. She is also dribbling a lot, Just cleaned her teeth and her back molas are coming through... Hope her bottom doesn't go like it did before or I may have to go back to mappies.... SHe has been clean & dry since Friday morning!!

DS is still not sleeping I just dont know what to do about it. He sleeps 20 mins in the day and about 4 hours at night max.. It is killing me so christ knows how he is coping... He should be sleeping loads at his age so dont know what is going on... It is karma coming back at me and bitting me on the bum because I used to gloat that Jessica went through from 7 weeks..... (Karma is a bitch by the way)

I have the joys of music tots today will have to sling ds as he will not be put down for that long. DD just asked if we could leave ds here

Moosy · 23/06/2009 09:52

Bumpy, sorry you're having such a hard time, good that DP is supporting you though, are you getting on better now? Hope the boob is feeling better soon. Poor you and Sorky having teethings too, what a time! Well done to DD though, DD2 has been nappyless since yesterday afternoon too but she's not doing quite so well! Yesterday we had 4.5 wees in the potty and 2.5 wees in knickers, then a poo on the ground outside! This morning she's done 1 wee in the toilet and 1 wee and 1 poo in her knickers Ah well, we shall persevere until I can't take any more!

Surry sounds good Ses, DH keeps asking if we can have one to but my stomach hasn't been up to it recently, might try soon though.

Hello to everyone else, I am reading everything and trying to take it all in, honest!

Diege · 23/06/2009 10:16

Quick hello then goodbye I'm afraid for today! DD2 has vomiting bug, so trying to deal with that and fractious baby. The joys!

glaskham · 23/06/2009 10:27

Diege- Sorry to hear your milks dwindled... I was told when expressing for DD2 that the Em CS does put the body into shock, and as it can be around 2 hrs minimum before baby has his/her first feed its trickier for the body to relate to the baby arriving. My milk came in much later this time than last time- and i was using a very good electric pump every 2-3hrs from about 6hrs after the birth. Glad your OK about DS being FF though, at least you've not got that 'guilt' feeling that lots of mothers get. For me as i've never FF i was much more determined to get my milk in... plus i didn't have the 2 older DC's for the first wk of having DD2, and i didn't have all the things to do with a newborn like you have. I think had the older DC's been here and DD2 have been at home i'd have found it much harder to keep going to get milk in.

Re- healing post CS- i felt i had to be 'back to normal' by a week after the birth as DS & DD1 were home then, and i didn't want them to see me in pain... that didn't happen. Because i was back and forth to the SCBU i didn't get chance to rest in the first 2.5weeks... i was still feeling sore up until about 3wks post CS... However at about 5wks post CS i felt absolubtly normal!! Do rest as much as possible... I know thats much easier said than done though- especially with your other 3DC's aswell.

Gruff- Dont feel you've failed your DS- you've tried despite coming across many walls. And the fact you're still managing night feeds is something, as IDOB says it only takes 3 feeds to give them all the benefits of BFing.

Hello everyone else. Haven't been about all W/end- been busy sorting the house and gardening now we've had a bit more nice weather again. And both older DC's have been full of a cough/cold- think they caught it off me!!

Nat- hope you had a good Birthday too!!

julesisindahouse · 23/06/2009 10:32

bump - poor you with mastitis have heard that it is very painful and nasty!! hope it gets better soon

have just bought on amazon - amigo and crazy golf for wii and 2 kipper books for dd1 and 2 amazing baby books for bracken. got money @ party for the girls.

off to swimming with dd1 in a min then off to her school for the 1st induction session

my mum stayed over last night she luved the wii played tennis and bowling she is having bracken while swimming and @ school

sorky · 23/06/2009 10:56

ds2 has Canines coming through Bumpy. AB's should start kicking in soon.

Moosy I have found the white fitted t-shirt, do you want me to send it on to you?

Have finished tidying, done Science & Reading, need to press-gang them into Maths and then we get to hit the beach

GYo I was awake at 4, but not near my phone, will do better on tonight's shift .

Bumpy dd2 is still only having 20 minutes twice a day and feeding every 2-3 hours at night, though I'm convinced it's for comfort now. Need to search out the Pantley book I think.

GYo · 23/06/2009 11:02

Thanks for the curry info Ses- thats just what i need! Might order some today I am also a bit worried about the breast milk transfer issue.. had a fairly spicy thai curry on hols and Im still not sure if it was that or the heat (weather type heat!) that made DD a bit fussy whilst feeding the next day. Will be interested to hear how you get on.

Sorry for all you guys with poorly and teething DCs. Sending get well vibes.

Moosy- hope DD improves her potty use today I have to admit, Im not looking fwd to that stage

DH is at home all the time at the moment as he took voluntary redundancy in early May as he wanted to get out of his current job and spend more time with DD. He is mostly out and about doing jobs in house or at interviews but occasionally is under my feet

Have got quite used to having him about now though.. will feel weird when he goes back to work...though I hope its soonish as its making me a bit edgy knowing the redundancy money is limited to a few months.

Trying DD in cot again for a nap. She is making tired shouts so hoping she will drop off soon.

Moosy · 23/06/2009 14:21

Ooh Sorky you know I never say no to stuff! And bonus if it's fitted, the nork fairy has been visiting a lot recently, finally DH has found a positive side to me being pg!

DD2 seems to be doing about half her wees in the potty today, we've given up on knickers this afternoon and she's doing a lot better with just a bare bottom

lastboxoftampons · 23/06/2009 15:20

Hi everyone!

Moosy - just picturing a little bare bottomed imp running around your house! How sweet!

Ses - lovely that you're planning a special night for your anniversary - have a good one!

Bump - I have no idea what to suggest at all. I'm so sorry. I'm at my wits end for you, I can't even imagine how you feel! Hoping the AB's kick in soon! And well done to your Dh for being so supportive. At least one good thing has come out of everything.

Hi everyone else!

I'm feeling a bit crap at the moment. Bump is feeling very big and heavy and my legs have been sore/tired for the past few days. Think I need some time on the sofa, but I've still got 14 days left of work Think I should've stopped earlier. I was feeling really great up until this week.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 23/06/2009 15:54

LBOT - can't you request an earlier finish?

I think this heat makes everything a lot harder - says she, reclining on sofa, shorts on, legs up, cold drink in hand, t-shirt tucked under bra, wondering how to cool down...

And no, I cannot be bothered to get up to a) plug in fan b) get ice lolly c) erect paddling pool

julesisindahouse · 23/06/2009 16:16

too hot here too

school went really well

Sparklytwinkletoes · 23/06/2009 16:21

yay jules

Kayzr · 23/06/2009 17:13

Hello!!

We decided to go to Whitby this afternoon. Bloody gorgeous sunshine, lovely and hot. But the tide was out so didn't go for a paddle.

Hope everyone is ok.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 23/06/2009 18:13

Well, I've heard they've given it good ooop North tomorrow, so DS and I are preparing ourselves for the journey .

Its about 2 hours from my place, and I'm planning on leaving at about 9, although if I can get away earlier, I will... hmm, actually, think I'll get everything ready tonight!

So, if I put the DVD player in for DS, a bag with lots of spare clothes in for him, and some snacks / drinks for both of us for the journey there and back - that will be about it won't it? I can't remember the last time I went anywhere with DS but without DH!

Oh, and some suncream, and sunhats, and a favourite teddy , and his potty, and the toilet seat adaptor thing for using in the services...

Have I covered every eventuality the essentials?

Ah, and must remember to swap the mega buggy for the umbrella fold....

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 23/06/2009 19:06

Whitby sounds like it was good Kay. Shame no paddling though!

STT & Nat - enjoy your meet up!

LBOT - this heat will magnify all those uncomfortable last few weeks feelings. STT is right, you could ask to start ML earlier or ask if there's any flexibility on doing a shorter week.

GYo - I can see the pros & cons of having your DH at home at the moment. Hope something gets sorted for him soon.

Diege - hope DD2 is feeling better and Jacob is starting to settle. Oh and (in case no one told you ) take it easy!!!

6am check today was pretty straight forward. DS has a granuloma on his belly button so we're going back tomorrow afternoon to have it treated with silver nitrate. Anyone any experience of this?
He also has his weigh-in in the morning.

DS has just done 15 mins in his bouncy chair so I've managed to put dinner on before DH gets home. Just pie and veg tonight. Big curry night tomorrow. I've got 3oz of EBM in the fridge to cover us but will try and do some more later.

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 23/06/2009 19:16

Btw, the link for the curry place website is here
Just in case anyone was interested...!
