Hey everyone, using iPhone as our Internet isn't working, been a long 2 weeks without it! Hope u are all well, any news with theboob yet? Should only be 3 weeks for me, they say it's a very big baby, it feels it too. Have now got gd which is a pain lol. Really think I need to get bag packed, really think I need to start getting nursery done! Talk to you soon! Miss you all!! Xxx

rubyslippers · 16/09/2009 08:22

sparkly ceph long - cephalic longitudinal which is brilliant! Head down and the right way (not back to back)

am hoping that my scan today will show that

littlepea - good to see you back

treats - maybe your colleagues will send you somthing when the baby is born. I had a very low key exit from work which suited me actually. Last time there was a huge fuss and i was a bit

fidelma - enjoy your stitch and bitch. Sounds brill

HT - hope you are feeling ok now

Hope everyone else is doing well ... it rained solidly all day yesterday so was v miserable

am just re-packing my hospital bag ... didn't have any toiletries in it! Think i need a separate bag for the baby as i can't get everything in the one bag ... rememberd to pack a spare shirt for DH ... he wore his work shirt for about 36 hours last time

right - hope i will have good news to report later

Hi all,

I haven't been posting much but I have been reading everything, just nothing to report. How lovely, and a bit strange, to think boob is probably holding her baby now. The next few weeks are going to be VERY exciting on the thread!

Ruby - good luck for your scan today

Sparkly - yah for baby going head down, hope the scan confirms that.

Well I am 38+3 and saw the midwife yesterday. The baby and I are both fine and healthy but the baby is very high and nowhere near engaging which is apparantly unusual for a first. I'm a bit worried as my mum was 3 weeks late with me then had to be induced which didn't work out and finished up with an ECS. Not ideal so I am going to be spending lots of time bouncing on the birth ball, sitting the wrong way round on a dining chair IYKWIM, walking and generally trying to convince the LO she'd like to make an appearance while I can still have a home birth. I still have 3.5 weeks so probably nothing to worry about but I can't help worrying a bit anyway .

HumphreysCorner · 16/09/2009 09:27

Oh, I haven't packed anything for DH. He managed in the clothes he had last time.

Hope theboob and baby are OK.

Got my 38+2 MW appointment tomorrow so will see if he has engaged anymore.

Getting close ladies. Laters!

Hi all, thanks letting me know I'm not the only hormonal one!

Went to see consultant yesterday and it wasn't as positive as I hoped. I ended up crying for most of the afternoon and evening, but have just about got my head around it. I had a failure to progress with DD and no-one knows why. I had assumed that I would be allowed to VBAC and if the same happened again I would have an EMCS. It turned out that he's not happy with how big the baby is measuring and thinks that if dd got stuck at 8lb5 then there may not be any point in trying with a baby any bigger. So now he's talking about ELCS. He's really nice and its all still very much in the "weighing things up" stage but its kind of knocked me for six that I might not even get the chance to labour naturally with this one. I'm booked in for a measuring scan on the 8th, EDD 11th and then we'll see how things go from there. Does anyone know how fast they can schedule an ELCS? Really don't want to get this one out before they're ready.

Can't remember who said what but
I wasn't allowed to carry dd around in hosp, they had to be in wheeled cot, in case you passed out or something. I had to take her with me wherever I went so if DH wasn't there I took her to the loo with me. We did keep an eye on each others babies tho if anyone asked.

Got my last bits for my hosp bag yesterday and packed them. The only thing missing is my TENS machine which should be arriving in the next week. I've got a bag for post birth and a small rucksack with labour stuff / baby's first sleepsuit, hat and nappy. I'll be getting DH to repack this so that he knows where things are when I want them.

I got pampers mats from morrisons I think.

DD has a UTI poor thing is weeing everywhere coz she can't hold it and crys if I put her on the loo. Had to get AB's off Dr yest and am having to bribe her with choc buttons to take it - aniseed flavour barf!!

I used cabbage leaves last time when I had the start of mastitis and it cleared it up in record time. Has to be savoy, keep in fridge and then put in bra til they wilt and feed/express as much as poss. Apparently there's something in the leaves that fights the infection.

HumphreysCorner · 16/09/2009 10:50

Oh smallone, hope you get the VBAC.

I wish I knew all these tips about cabbage and freezing breast pads last time. Suffered quite a bit and it was my first time BF as DD1 was bottle fed.

Treats · 16/09/2009 11:03

Hi smallone - hope it works out for you. It sounds as if they're anticipating that you might need a cs, and scheduling one is better for them and for you than having an emergency one. But surely there's no harm in waiting until at least a week after your EDD to give you a chance of a natural labour? Maybe you could talk to them about that? Fingers crossed for you.

Mine hasn't descended yet either IDOB - but I'm only 37 weeks so there's still time. Good luck with persuading it!

HappyTangerine · 16/09/2009 12:15

Hi everyone, Treats good to see you back

smallone I so hope you get your VBAC, there is time for things to change yet-the baby may decide to come out early of its own accord, you never know. If you don't, there are loads of threads on here about positive birth experiences with ELCS. It was mentioned to me as an option when the baby was measuring quite far ahead for dates and I got quite upset but reading such positive stories helped me a lot. Big hug for your DD, it sounds like she's in so much pain.Hope the ABs kick in soon.

Midwife came and went yesterday with news that the baby had moved further down(how much further down can he move without popping out?! )and that it appears the back thing was him pressing on a nerve as he was shifting about. Very sore today so taking it easy. She said she's half expecting not to see me for Monday's appointment which freaked me out a bit but made me feel excited at the same time! Having said that, the babies in my family have this annoying habit of going overdue by at least 5 days so we'll see...

Got a lovely surprise package this morning-a woman in our church back home in Wales had knitted a lovely coming home set for the baby. Its stunning- a little white hat, cardigan and lovely crocheted shawl. She must have spent ages on it so off to organise some flowers for her.

Will pop back on later for news of ruby, Take care all x

rubyslippers · 16/09/2009 12:53

BABY IS HEAD DOWN!!!!!!

whoop whoop!

so pleased - i nearly bloody cried ... didn't need the ECV so we were in and out within 30 mins (altho it looks like i have another water infection, grrrr)

thanks for all the lovely messages of support

Mossop · 16/09/2009 13:18

Yay, that's great news Ruby!!

CalypsoFlame · 16/09/2009 13:22

Hello ladies,

smallone I'm sorry to hear that you may not get the birth you're hoping for, lots of luck that all falls into place soon X And get well Smallone DD!

HT ouch for the back troubles, rest well

treats sorry we missed each other at the yoga class last Thursday? I was looking very intently at everyone to see if you were wearing a pink carnation, and I mentioned I had asthma again as a secret password, but I suppose either you weren't there or you would prefer not to meet in real-life?! If you do want to meet, TODAY IS MY LAST DAY AT WORK OH YES YAY WOOO and then I'm off on maternity leave, so if I can help you relieve your boredom somewhere in south London, preferably with cake and tea, then feel free to drop me a line at [email protected] (take out NOSPAM) No offense if you would rather remain an enigma

HC & LMB hope the colds are on the retreat, they really do knock you for 10

Ruby Fabulous news, congratulations, very happy for you

Half woke up during the night with very bad cramping but nothing today, and have been feeling very energetic (even went for a mini-run on Monday!) to horribly tired, I hope this doesn't continue for 4 weeks! And did I mention THAT ITS MY LAST DAY IN

Will keep checking for baby Boob news, xx

38 weeks today!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 16/09/2009 14:19

Ruby - fab news on baby positioning, should be too late for it to switch back now !

smallone - I had an emcs first time round too, after failure to progress despite non-stop and excruciating contractions. They're not entirely sure of the reason, possibilities mentioned were a) baby too big (unlikely, I've got good wide hips and size 7 feet!) b) ineffective contractions (can apparently be caused by stress and I was VERY stressed) c) painful contractions could have been caused by partial seperation of the placenta, which in itself would cause inefficient contractions as well as pain...

So, my consultant has said that she'd like to see me go early rather than later, hence my appt tomorrow - provided the scan shows baby the right way round, I think she said she would do an internal to see how my cervix was 'presenting' then we'd embark on stretch and sweeps to try and trigger labour prior to the due date. She said that they would allow me a 'trial of labour' but that if it looked unfavourable, like a repeat of the first time round, then we'd move to a c-section quicker than we did before (laboured for about 10 hours last time) to make sure baby comes to no harm.

I'm surprised that your consultant hasn't mentioned stretch and sweeps / natural induction etc. Maybe you could ask about it? Having been quite traumatised by how things went last time, I understand more now how important it is to have as wide an understanding of the possible eventualities beforehand as I was quite bewildered (not helped by the pethidine) last time. Took me a while to get my head round it all.

Thoroughly agree with HT that reading lots of positive birth stories for different types of births is good mental preparation.

Sorry - that was a bit long winded,

Still looking / hoping for baby boob news here too

Hope the colds are getting better and your managing OK, HC and LMB IDOB I'll be bouncing in harmony with you! Have been sitting on the very edge of my sofa for the past couple of weeks, rather than lounging back, and have got my laptop on a stool, all helps with the positioning. When this gets uncomfortable, then I lean forward onto the birth ball, or lie on my side on my beanbag.

I've been getting loads of rest today, but really ought to go and at least unload and reload the dishwasher and I've only just realised how late it is - I haven't had lunch yet! Oops!

nameynamerson · 16/09/2009 14:23

yay! great news ruby!

ht are you taking it easy now? hope you're ok.

HappyTangerine · 16/09/2009 14:27

Hooray for baby Ruby well done! I am so pleased for you

Calypso-congrats on your last day at work , I bet you can't wait to start maternity leave!

Sparkly - good luck for your appointment tomorrow

HappyTangerine · 16/09/2009 14:32

namey x-post-yes, thanks-am a bit sore but trying to rest lots today. DH drove us to supermarket this morning and I started having strong Braxton Hicks again so came home pronto!

devilsadvocaat · 16/09/2009 16:14

HT (namey btw) i'm a bit jealous of all these braxtons. you must feel like things are moving along!

think we've finally decided on names. phew. did more gardening today, trying to stay as active as poss but just feel so exhausted all the time. can't imagine another 5 weeks of this tbh. but that's the absolute maximum so i guess it's not so bad. can't believe i'll be 37 weeks on friday.

dh and i permenantly sleep separate now as i am so figity and get up about 5 times a night. we're making an effort to be cuddly at other times tho so as not to feel like we're no longer a couple!

i can't believe how fast it's all gone, it seems like just yesterday we were all suffering ms and looking forward to our first scans.

also i had a look through ds' memory book from his first year. oh my god. i really forgot so much. it's so exciting, you first time mums must be almost (or actually!) wetting yourselves with anticipation. i remember what it's like trying to imagine how a little baby will change your lives forever/what it will look like/what ctx feel like and all the other things!

i am literally wishing my life away, minute by minute at the moment

theboob · 16/09/2009 17:16
