I used to work in a Bank, any small clue if you don't want to divulge which one he works in?

hi everyone

twinklegreen - fab news about your dd - I'm so glad it went well and hope that she recovers well.

littlepea - so sorry to hear about your dilemma. In your shoes I think I would go with my instinct and do what I felt was best - which in your case sounds as if it's going back to NI. I totally sympathise about your DS though. Perhaps making one more change now, that would be for good and with no more changes after that, would be better than storing up more disruption for two years' time? I understand why it's hard though.

I think there's a board on Mumsnet somewhere that's especially for Forces families? Can someone on there help? Also, do the Army supply some kind of family liaison team that you can talk to? They might be able to advise on relocation back to NI and how that would affect your son's education. I hope you can find a resolution soon. Thinking of you and your family......

Thanks to everyone for the hospital bag lists. Am going to transfer all these ideas to a list of my own so that I don't forget anything at the crucial time.......

BTW - am I a completely horrible person for feeling quite pleased at the amount of weight Coleen Rooney has put on? At last, a celebrity who doesn't float through pregnancy with the tiniest of bumps and no obvious symptoms...... Don't suppose I'll still be gloating come January when she's managed to lose it all, but I still look like a bin liner full of youghurt. But let's not spoil the moment........

Treats · 13/07/2009 14:30

Love my DH. He just sent me this link and after I'd sent back a rant about how vulnerable women shouldn't be lectured at; the whole process is difficult enough, blah, blah, blah, he suggested that I could always try this instead.

Made me laugh.......

SassJ · 13/07/2009 15:34

Hello Everyone!! I'm back from Rhodes - can't believe three weeks went so fast. I'm 27 weeks already - scarey! Had a lovely time, spending loads of time with hubby and being spoilt rotten by my in-laws. It was so lovely to eat so much fresh food too - managed to avoid junk for the whole holiday, and ate loads of Greek salad and yoghurt - fab!
Going to catch up on everyone's news today and hopefully be all up to date soon. Hope everyone is well and the wierd weather (that I know the UK has had) hasn't been too disruptive - 35-45 degrees is all very well when you have the ocean at your feet, not sure I would have enjoyed it if I'd been here in London!

Confuseddotmum · 13/07/2009 16:51

Hello - I have been dipping in and out of this thread since I found out I was pregnant, but only had the courage to post today. I think it's because it's starting to dawn on me now that I will be having a baby soon! Took a while to really feel anything (I'm now 28+4), but the baby is moving so much today I feel a bit sick!

Hope everyone is ok x

theboob · 13/07/2009 17:19

hello everyone
littlepea i was a forces baby and we lived in germany for many years, i attended nursery there and when we came back to england i was put staight into school, i was fine and caught up with the rest of the kids really quick, the only problem i remember being behind on was spelling, my dad was also away alot and in the faulklands war for quite a long time, i can remember missing him but it also did not have any long term affect on me, i'm not really helping here but i just wanted to tell you my experience from your ds point of view, i was the same age when we came back x x

had my GTT test today and it made me very ill, we went to the park with ds2 as i was told to come back after 2 hours, i nearly fainted and had to lie on a bench and could not get back to the hospital, it took forever! i still feel ill now, get results tomorrow

cant belive i'm 29 weeks today, where has all the time gone? hope your all well

LittleMissBliss · 13/07/2009 19:44

Hi all. 28 weeks today!

Littlepea I'm sorry to hear you are feeling low, i hope some of the advice on here helps. The only experience i can pull on is the fact that i was born in Tanzania but my British dad brought me back to England when i was four. I couldn't speak English but picked it up really quickly at nursery. When it came to starting school I wasn't the best, well pretty terrible at spelling (still am) but a really confident reader so it didn't really hinder my learning. I got an A in English Lit and Lang by the time it came to GCSE's so we all catch up in the end!

I'm not sure how disruptive it was at the time but don't have any vivid memories. Also my dad split up from my mum so she stayed in Africa. That may have been quite traumatic at the time but can't really remember now. So in the long run no long term damage from such a big move and just having my Dad. Your ds will still see his dad and you will be back as a family in two years time. So for your sanity and stability maybe Ireland is the best move. Also ds is just at the right age to start making some good friends that he can take trough school with him. I'm sure he will catch up quickly and thrive from having family around. I would love ds to have a cousin his age!

I've had a terrible morning! ds was teething last night so a few late night comforting sessions on his bedroom floor. Then dp left for work early (he normally looks after ds in the morning until he leaves for work at 7.30) with my car as his van has broken down. Leaving me exhausted. I managed to get ds and myself looking presentable only to have ds pour bath water (inside a bath toy)down himself whilst i was brushing my teeth before we were due to leave the door. Having changed him i then power walk to my midwives appointment as i was running so late. Arrived there all breathless to find out that my appointment is tomo not today! So i could have sat on the sofa this morning instead of having a mad dash out!

Has anyone had the 'Not long yet!?' comment?
I had this for the first time on Sunday at work. I think the gentleman was a little taken aback when i said 'Well still a while, around 12 weeks!'.

I seem to have a massive bump out of nowhere, luckily its all out front! Well out back too if you count the growth of my bum!

littlepea72 · 14/07/2009 11:40

Thank you for the advise, sometimes you just dont know what to do for the best. Theboob & Littlemiss, it means alot to hear from people who have been through it. To know that it wont effect my son in later life is so good to know. I think i pretty much had made up my mind what i was doing, but i got a phone call this morning from my mum & dad, i have decided to stay here with my DH untill the end of this posting and he can get a posting back in NI after Germany. The phone call was about the parades yesterday (12th July), i am in a band back home, its a flute band but silver flutes, like James Galway plays. We do concerts, and contests etc. I dont parade myself as i dont like that sort of thing, but my wee band where out yesterday. There was a landrover behind them, driving some of the old lodge members who can no-longer walk, and it went out of control, it drove at speed into the band members, my friends. There was alot of them badly hurt, alot of the kids too, but my friend Debbie was killed. What happened is behond words, and if dont make much sence its because im still in shock. But because of this, because you can lose people so quickly, i dont want to be away from my hubby, i dont want to take the kids away. Another 2 years isnt that long, and he is going away next year for a 6 month tour, so for now we will stay close by him. Thanks again for the advise.

Hope everyone is feeling & doing ok xxxx

HumphreysCorner · 14/07/2009 11:48

Oh my, littlepea-what an utter tragedy. So sorry to hear about your friend. Am glad you have made a decision but don't forget to get help from your GP if necessary.

Girls, DD1's school has a case of swine flu so with only 3 days of term left I have kept her off along with half the school. Do I need to worry about the baby if I get it? Can't remember what was said on this thread when we were all discussing it ages ago.

Heartburn getting worse but otherwise OK. Hope all OK too.

29 weeks!

Treats · 14/07/2009 12:49

Littlepea - I'm so sorry to hear your news. I hope you're not on your own today and have plenty of people you can call on if you need. Thinking of you.

HC - Pregnant women are a risk category for swine flu, so you should call your GP immediately if you suspect that you have it. They can't give you Tamiflu, but there's an alternative that you can take that is safe for pregnant women - it's more effective the earlier you take it. The main thing is to do all you can to bring your temperature down as quickly as possible. Take 2 paracetamol every 4 hours (or whatever is recommended on the pack). Don't think that you should limit your paracetamol intake just because you're pregnant - it won't be effective. And drink lots of water.......

i got all this from my mum, who got it from a friend who's a midwife at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey and this is the official advice they're giving out. It can't substitute for calling your GP as early as possible though. Fingers crossed that your family are all fine though.

princessmel · 14/07/2009 13:06

Littlepea So sorry to hear about your friend So so sad. Such a shock.

HC dh told me just this morning that a lady at his office has got swine flu. I'm not sure if that means I am at any risk. I'd do as you have done and keep dc's off and keep an eye out for symptoms.

LittlemissBliss yes yes yes!! I have had loads of those comments. Look at my other thread abut it in 'pregnancy'. It's sooo annoying!

Welcome confuseddotmum

theboob Hope you're ok, fainting is awful!

sassj glad you had a lovely holiday

Littlepea So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

I went for my 28 week check today. Had a little protein in my wee so have to send off a sample tomorrow. But don't think i have a urine infection as it doesn't hurt when i wee and don't have any pain in my bladder. But i am weeing allot, so we'll see...

Baby's measuring 27 weeks so a little smaller than dates but still in the 'normal' range so nothing to worry about. babys head was down which is good but can still flip before labour but hopefully it wont!

Brilliant info Treats thank you. I will continue to symptom spot even though I don't know what the symptoms are.

LMB-people are mad aren't they? I am measuring 27 weeks but was really 28 however, I am still getting people who can't see I'm PG but I am quite big with a Mr Greedy style bump.

princessmel-it is worrying isn't it but I think it is quite harmless.

Fanjita · 14/07/2009 14:20

Hi All

Littlepea - sorry to hear about your friend but glad you've reached a decision you feel comfortable with.

I'm 25+4 and had MW appointment today where I measured 27 wks. This isn't much of a surprise as I'm expected to have a big baby as DS1 was 10lb 11oz. The MW was really good and explained that I'm not feeling much movement as my placenta is at the front, which I hadn't realised. I said that I have gained 1st5lb so far and that I was trying to be better than last time when I gained 3st. To my surprise she said 3st wasn't bad considering DS's size and fluid etc, so made me feel quite good.

Next appointment at 28wks for GTT and thyroid function. theboob sorry you felt so ill after your GTT, you must have felt stranded in the park!

littlepea72 · 14/07/2009 14:36

Thanks everyone, alot of people phoning today from the band to tell me what had happened, i am just really thankfull that my dad wasnt there, as he would of been at the back where the range rover hit. Its not worth thinking about. For once we are all happy that he has a bad hip! But my poor friends family, terrible. Her sisters little boy had only learnt to play the flute & this was his first time out with the band, he was walking beside her, the rangerover went over the top of him too, he might lose his leg, but thank god he is alive....

As for the swine flu, we dont get to hear about it much in Germany, maybe thats a good thing. I would say that being so close to people, who are at school/work with them, then i would go see the GP to be on the safe side. You did the right thing by taking your little one out of school HC.

My bump hasnt grown much, nor has my boobs but i think its all gone onto my arms & face!! I know from last pregnancy that the last month i double in bump size, but its hard to hear people question how far im gone, they just look at my bump & ask im i sure! yes....i think i should know for sure lol...Its the same with woman who have large bumps, i really do wish people would think before speaking.

Right....time to do some housework, ive sat on the sofa in shock all morning, so its a pull myself together & get on with it....

Bye!! xxxx

littlepea72 · 14/07/2009 14:39

Fantjita...my eyes are watering at 10lb 11oz baby!!!

Theboob....hope you are feeling better, nothing worse than feeling faint & no-one to help you xxx

BellaCullen · 14/07/2009 17:46

littlepea72 sorry to hear about your friend ,hope her ds will be better soon.

Fanjita at size of DS1 was he natural birth or c-section?

Saw GP today and measure 27 weeks too am 28+4 but she didnt seem concerned and baby quite low down so would measure smaller anyway. She thinks hes head down which is great as was worried he was never going to move from being transverse.Got my health grant form which I sent of straight away. Now just waiting to get the money.

LittleMissBliss · 14/07/2009 17:56

10lb 11oz.

I tore with 7lb 1oz ds! Not sure what would have happened if he was nearly 11lb..!

pasturesnew · 14/07/2009 18:06

Hello, just found this thread - is it too late to join now you're all on page 16? Hope you are all keeping well.

I have a little boy of 2 3/4 and am due new baby in early Oct, so poss. on DS's 3rd birthday. Don't know sex of new baby yet, keep hoping they'll need to send me for a growth scan or a breech scan so we can ask - this is for the entirely trivial reason that I feel nesty and would like to go shopping either way - hand-me-downs from DS are all neutral.

rubyslippers · 14/07/2009 18:45

hi all

this is going to be a bit of a hit and run but will catch up later

am all in a tizz - went for consultant appt (28 weeks)

basically, baby is transverse which explains all the low, right handed pain i have been having

not too concerned at this point as it is likely he/she will move, altho' i think baby has been like this for a while

BUT, he wants me to have a growth scan next week - not sure what he saw (he scanned me but failry quickly) - implication of too small, rather than too large a baby tho'

he also sent me for more blood tests -

it was one of those situations where everything seemed to happen so fast and unexpectedly that i didn't know what to ask so now my head is spinning and am trying not to google

if anyone has any experience of these issues, would very much appreciate a bit of hand holding

theboob · 14/07/2009 19:30

littlepea , so sorry to hear about your friend
HC there are cases of swine flu amoung parents of children that attened dc's school and letters were sent home today about what to do, but wont confirm if any children have it, it's getting closer with more and more cases confirmed in Blackpool
Thanks for the messages luckily my mum was with me in the park thank god!i was very ill last night and had terrible runs i'm not diabetic but very anemic so maybe this is why i had a funny turn
will catch up more later take care all x x

MeHimCatBlob · 14/07/2009 21:02

Hi all

Littlepea - am so sorry to hear about your recent troubles and hope things will get better for you.

Not much to report here - still not really feeling the baby and have only put on 4.5kg which seems so little to me as i feel huge.

Having a pretty stressful time at work and no interest in my house which isnt helping either, that coupled with the 3am waking even though I know I am totally exhausted isnt making life any easier - suppose this is what i should expect to getting pregnant!

i know there have been various discussions about what to take to hospital - does anyone know if there is a list somewhere? any assistance gratefully received as I have no idea what I'm meant to take with me!

HumphreysCorner · 14/07/2009 22:05

Hello and welcome pasturesnew and congrats on baby No2.

ruby-am sure there is nothing to worry about and they are erring on the side of caution. Let us know how the growth scan goes as a few of us are measuring a week smaller than dates.

theboob-sorry you are feeling a tad poorly. On the NHS website it says that PG women are more prone to catching Swine flu so am sure I have made the right decision to take DD1 out of school for the last week of term. I was stood right next to the child who has it last Thursday at the open afternoon. It takes 2 weeks approx for symptoms to show so just a waiting game really. It is all very well the guidelines saying you should still attend school and work but it is a worry if you are in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

Bedtime methinks.
