hi all

still hanging on here!! one whole week overdue now!! think i had a bit of a show earlier and throughout the day, but not a great deal, wouldnt describe it as an 'elephant sneeze'!! been keeping active all day (shattered now!) but still nothing and induction day is getting closer and closer, I would love to avoid induction but just can not see it happening! pesky baby!!

For those worried about sweeps, i had one yesterday and although it hasnt brought the baby popping out, it wasnt too bad. a bit uncomfortable and made me hold the edge of the bed, but only took 20seconds or so then was over and i didnt have any pain afterwards from it. would have another one, if that helps!

mrsmcjnr - i'm with you on the large G&T fib! sounds good to me!

snowwombat - sorry to hear about your transverse baby, hope it turns in time. if not is it a csection for you? I had one last time (dd was breech) and it really wasnt that bad, even afterwards the pain wasnt ever unbearable, just made life a little more difficult with not being abke to lift or drive etc

Naat - sorry to hear about your friends little one, its everyones worst nightmare, hope they all get through it and the little baby is ok

Hi to everyone else, sorry its only a quick catch up, i'll probably be back later!

llynnnn · 09/06/2009 16:56

sorry nemo cross post - i'm also being induced on fri! we maybe be birth-day buddies!!

chocciedooby · 09/06/2009 17:02

Not had a chance to catch up yet but wanted to say Lauraloo you poor poor thing

I know how horridlbe those nasty plies are. I suffered really badly at about 33 weeks with them and was in agony bed bound for a whole weekend with frozen peas on my bum!

The peas are brilliant. Just wrap a packet in an old tea towl or cloth and try to lay down as much as you can to relieve the pressure. Place the peas right in your bottom for as long as you can bear it and then take a ten minute break. Then get another packet of peas and start all over again.I know that sounds ott and tedious but I really needed it and it did work wonders. Anusol cream and suppositories are great but were not enough this time for me.

What I can tell you is that they do go away. I have not had them since.

Also, eat 5 or 6 dry prunes every day. They are brilliant and I got to quite like them

Naat · 09/06/2009 17:02

Hi lovely Juners!
Laura, so sorry to hear your visitors are giving you such a hard time. Ermin's advice might help. Good to know you're getting treatment right after LO is born. Nag your MW if you keep feeling so bad

Daisy, my fellow contractor! let's see if we go into labour together so sorry to hear your DH will have to go away for work! Fingers crossed LO makes an appearance before that!!!

Ineed, so glad Emily slept so well despite her sleepy day! I first heard about lansinoh pads from Mrsmc and went out and got them glad to hear they're helping you.

Tee, soooo exciting you'll see LO soon!!! I'll add your DH to FB!!

June, LOL at DH nesting so much!!!

Bunny, I'm also in resting mode, after walking sooooo much until Sunday, I'm drained now and have taken these last two days easy (feeling super guilty ) maybe tempting fate by going to HandM will do sth!!

Ermin, again, thanks for your advice! Glad to hear MW appt went well. I had 2 sweeps yest at the BC and nothing, cx effaced and thinning, should I worry??? Has this happened to anyone before?

Silk, oh my! 7 hours!! So much energy LOL! Hope you manage to get a well deserved nap now LOL at your DH taking the keys, that's exactly what my DH would have done!

Mrsmc, good list! Staying away from the oil after what some Juners said. I've tried the rest with no results so I'm with Ermin now, it's all a myth! somewhat at your DH's comment... And at your NCT teacher's advice!! I'd never dare!

Hi looouise! LOL at what you told that consultant! You poor poor thing!! What's G and T??

Snow, so sorry to hear you're feeling low... Hope the car gets fixed soon. Read ermin's advice re. transverse babies and how to help them move, it's good and I've heard from many others it does help!

Right, thanks so much for your lovely comments re. my friend's LO. They didn't know anything before her birth. They chose not to take any tests as they would not have changed their mind about the baby. I guess their shock and sadness has to do with the possible surgery she has to undergo. I haven't heard from them, I've just sent a text every day saying we're thinking of them and have them in our prayers and that there's no need to answer as I know they have too much in their heads right now.

Anyway, nothing to report here. Ctx come and go incessantly and I feel a bit of discomfort down there, I guess it's because of the sweeps... Will keep you posted, lovely Juners!

Sending birthing vibes to all!!

(This post just took me 45 mins and I'm sure I'll now have x posted with many of you!!! Hahaha oh my, I so want my int connection to come!!!)

(((Waves)))

Naat · 09/06/2009 17:09

See? Xposted

Nemo, yay on LO coming soon. But if he/she wants to come before Friday then, all the better

Llynn, fingers crossed for things to happen soon!! Lots of birthing vibes going your way!

xxx

ermintrude13 · 09/06/2009 17:25

...in haste, but this is a very important English phrase for you to know, Naat... G&T - Gin and Tonic! Or Mother's Ruin, as it used to be known . Purely for medicinal purposes, you understand...

loooouise · 09/06/2009 17:27

Naat, a G&T is a gin and tonic!

Tee you must be soooo excited!! I am soooo [envy}

bunnymother · 09/06/2009 18:10

MrsMcJnr - v insensitive comment your DH made, sorry . Of course its understandable that you are struggling b/c you are v heavily pregnant and w some more help, maybe you wouldn't be! [ooops, out of order rabbit emoticon!] BTW sounds like medical studies (ie Mumsnetters said) indicate that a large G&T is recommended to bring on labour. That's how I read it...

lauraloo09 · 09/06/2009 18:11

evening all hope you have had a great day! will try and catch up eventually!

choccie i went out and bought feme pads from mothercare as i was going to buy them anyway for after the birth and the cooling is easing the pain/itch but not much. I will also be using your suggestion of frozen peas thanks . My midwife this morning advised me to buy some condoms fill them with water and freeze them then sit with them between the cheeks I haven't done that yet I really dont know how i will get thro the next week and a half with the constant pain and itch

Wonder if there will be any june babies born overnight

OP posts:
chocciedooby · 09/06/2009 19:17

Lauraloo - You will get through it. I know it is really hard and tbh I found it the worst pregnancy side effect of them all but it will pass. In the meantime drink lots of water, eat the prunes, stuff up the peas and get yourself as comfortable as you can. Hope you feel better after a good nights sleep (((hugs))).

Naat - your poor friend and her lo.Please send on our prayers, hope the surgery goes well. There can't be anything worse than having a sick chiild. The worry must be terrible

loooouise · 09/06/2009 19:19

Oooh, sorry Bunny, I bow to your superior knowledge. I stand corrected. That'll be a sweep and a large G&T, please doctor

DV1 · 09/06/2009 20:04

Hi Ladies, due the end of June/ Start July. Sounds like there is a lot going on here! I have just been feeling really low and anxious throughout and it seems to be getting worse, exsp as my income was the main one and now I just dont know how we'll cope - anyone else in similar position?

June2009 · 09/06/2009 20:05

Mememe post and rant alert:

ARGH, this "keeping active" is so bulls...
We went to pick up the post at work and had a long walk around canary wharf (motor exhibition, lunch etc), came back and bounced on the ball and now my legs have seized. I stood in front of the bed for 15 minutes wondering how I would get on to lie down (with great difficulty!) and now I'm lying down, I ain't moving nowhere!
There is so much pressure in my lower abs, is anyone else getting it so bad they can't walk anymore?
It doesnt feel like a "contraction" (though I wouldn't know .) more like a persistent pressure/pain driving me nuts!
I can feel baby moving loads, making her way down and hopefully out soon :D
I take back everything I said about being worried about missing her inside my belly LOL. Come on now, your time inside is up!

I should have known better, I was just starting to feel better after our long walk in the shopping mall the other day and I ony went and done it again. I blame it on the midwife

laura and lol @ your mw's advice re: condoms, but may well be worth trying!

June2009 · 09/06/2009 20:11

hey dv1, welcome to the June thread.

Sorry to hear you've had a hard time, how far along are you? I think there were a couple of people worried about their maternity allowance, but I can't remember who it was exactly. Do you get maternity pay from your work?
A few of us have been up and down, me about still being at work at 40+2 and having to carry on working pretty much straight after birth too.
I've been told that it's amazing how much we can cope with when we just have to, really hoping this is true!
When are you due, where abouts are you?

lauraloo09 · 09/06/2009 20:20

choccie thanks for your advice I know i'll get thro this, suppose i dont have a choice ...oh the bag of frozen peas is cold lol

FB update from effie

" HAD MY FIRST CUDDLE WITH RUPERT. YIPPEEEEE!!! Hes now able to breathe in air- with no O2. He needs help with CPAP, just so he doesn't tire out. Hes also now being treated for withdrawal from his morphine and may have another infection- all treatable- but at least i had my cuddle xx"

So he's doing much much better!

lauraloo09 · 09/06/2009 20:32

oh tee thanks for posting effie's update and yey on her finally getting her hug

OP posts:
Effielou · 09/06/2009 20:50

Hi All.

Thanks Tee-- I'll have to pay you to be my PA!!!!!

Well as Tee said --I've had my first cuddle with Rupert and it was fab- infact I had 2!!!

He is doing really well, but has had a few more obsticles to go through.

He is now breathing in air- mostly unaided, but needs a little NCPAP to stop im getting too tired.

They found he has an infection- somewhere- and sent me into another panic, as they where trying to do a lumber puncture ( a test for meningitis) and it was like--- how much more can we cope with. They've started him back on anti-biotics, but will change them according to the outcome of the tests.

The other problem they are trying to combat, is hes withdrawing from morphine- in the same way a baby, whose mother is on heroin- this is because they took him of his morphine quite quickly, so he could come of his ventilator. Hes now been started on oromorph, to wean him off- if that makes sense. Hes a very cross little boy at the mo-- but gorgeous- he looks like a grumpy old man.

I'm on such an emotional rollercoaster at the mo-- and sometimes I just want to run and hide- but not too far from Rupert.

Marks putting some pics on his facebook and he will tag me- so you should be able to see some pics.

Just need more cuddles and get hm to the point where he can breastfeed and hopefully ome in a couple of weeks.

Naat sorry to hear about your friends LoI can understand her heartache-- -please send her my love xxxxxxxxx

Hope you are all well and pushing, feeding, changing nappies and love to you all xxx

ermintrude13 · 09/06/2009 20:58

Good to hear from you Effie and great news about the cuddles. The morphine withdrawal can be horrid; I remember when my niece went through it, but the only consolation for you will be that he won't remember a thing about these days - even if you won't ever be able to forget! Hope the next few days show lots of progress and a bunch more cuddles

June I'm getting the very painful pressure below and know for a fact it's not a contraction . When it happens I have to walk really slowly, or sometimes stop completely, and sometimes get a muscular pain down my inner thigh too, so end up with a somewhat rolling gait . Everyone has noticed how low the bump is; I keep thinking surely this is effacing that cervix?!

Lauraloo I've never heard the condom idea but it makes perfect sense. Do you have to buy Trojans because they're for up your bum? . Joking apart, I know how horrid they are and hope something works SOON.

lauraloo09 · 09/06/2009 21:04

oh effie its good to hear from you and so chuffed that you finally got cuddles with your son. I hope the infection they have found isn't too serious and that the withdrawal from morphine goes smoothly...like ermin said at least he will never be able to remember these days. Sending lots of hugs to you and baby Rupert xx

erm I found the whole condom thing really funny tried so hard not to laugh at midwife when she mentioned that method The frozen peas seem to be doing the trick just now...THANK GOD!!

june i have been feeling pressure down below but mostly when I have been walking for a while.

tee you must be getting really excited now about going into hospital tomorrow for the prep for your section...looks like you'll be the next juner to have their baby

Well for about 30 mins been having on and off cramps but it isn't too sore or regular so again not expecting anything to come of this.

OP posts:
LittleSarah · 09/06/2009 21:18

Yay effie - Glad you are finally able to get a cuddle!

Just checking in to say hi really, bit too tired to catch up, sorry!

Good luck to tee!!

Sorry to see we are having a baby dry spell, still we all know what that means...!

Think I was worrying prematurely with the breastfeeding, although I'm trying to improve the latch! I am still very full but have now started leaking loads which happened with dd and is very annoying in some ways but handing for getting some milk together for dh to bottle feed in the future. (Well, here's hoping) So I'm hoping it is just the same routine as last time, certainly they are not quite as huge as they were yesterday!

Alexander will be weighed again tomorrow which only vaguely interests me (I can see he is doing fine!) and also goes to doctors for newborn check, think we're going to try and take it easy the rest of the time, has been all go for the last few days.

Hello to all the lovely Juners! Good luck on the contraction front!

llynnn - With me and my cousin we both went into labour within 48 hours of the muscus plug, and mine was pretty pathetic to begin with too!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 09/06/2009 21:43

Hi all,

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you all, (and it takes me an age to catch up on all the posts )

Effie- so pleased with all your postive news, everyday is such a hurdle but it does get easier (only now with the arrival of dd3 have I thought back to how different DD2's first days were).

Tee- good luck tomorrow we will miss your PA skills for a few days!! and can't wait for your news!!

Sweeps- I definitely felt less pain from my sweep than I did with a smear but I don't thnk it actively did anything either.

I'm struggling to remember stuff at the moment largely because I had a nigtmare night with Annabelle who wanted to see and feed for most of every hour between 11pm and 5am. consquently I haven't actually got dressed today . I got so tired I was being really lax about her latch and just putting my breasts near her and as a result have been in agony with feeds today (now dosed up on painkillers and loads of lansinoh and it is easing) think my milk is also just begining to come in but i'm not "doing a pammy" yet .

Right little miss is asleep so I will give a quick birth story so if you're all sitting comfotably (sorry Laura)then i'll begin...

Woke at 4 on sat morn with niggles (what was new ) and tried to sleep on through them, at 5 I realised they were coming every 15 min or so so got up and posted on mn denying all cx (just "niggles" so as not to tempt fate, but saw LittleS's post!!) at 6 they were getting quite painful so woke dh to put on TENS, and at 0630 I phoned my parents (didn't think they'd taken on borad quite how regular (and painful they were (fair enough given the ridiculous number of false starts)) so phoned again saying "are you going to be long..... at which point they fell through our front door 10 mins later !!!!!

By about 0730 dh had packed DD's off with my Dad, and I decide that I wanted to go in to hospital they were coming between 3 and 5 min apart and lasting. Got everything into the car and Dh tried to crash into our neighbours car (think that got me another cm dilated !!!) but we arrived at the hospital in 1 piece (car intact!).

I got to the hospital and was meet by my excellent male student mw (bit of a shock but absolutely lovely), who examined me and I was only 3-4 cm but did some breathing / had my hypnobirthing cd on and eventually started using Gas and air (got told off for not using it properely as I didn't like the loss of control).

By 11.30 I was due to be examined again and I was beginning to struggle a bit. As I was still only 4-5cm I decided that I would go for an epidural (easier to do at this stage than further on when the contractions were/ are even more intense / closer together) This was completely NOT what was in my "knit your own lentils / breathe it out" type birth plan and the mw's did check a few times it really was what I wanted but at that point IT REALLY WAS!!!!

Once the epidural was in they, popped my waters and everything sped up , (one of my biggest fears with the epidural was that everything would slow down as it did with dd1), but I still had some pain so the Dr came back and topped me up and the next thing I know I was on my side (baby was uphappy with me in any other position) holding my leg up and the mw saying right can you give a little push! It all happened so fast that my mum was very nearly not there (she'd gone for a coffee and a cake!!) so senior mw was running around trying to find her whilst I was saying "honestly she really won't mind lets just get this baby out"!!

Baby was born in about 5 pushes (dh says 3 but I disagree) and cried straight away.

I did have the syntometrine (despite initially saying I wasn't going to) as apparently it is prefered for epidural births , (I didn't really mind as I already had they epidural in incase i needed theatre). Although I think it put the mw's under some pressure to deliver it, as the sign they breathed when it came away was much bigger that when Annabelle was actually born!

All in all it was a really lovely birth, I had the night in a 4 bedded bay all to myself and little miss kept me up for most of it, she's feeding nicely atm (don't want to tempt fate) and although the afterpains were bad for the first couple of days they are now easing) (apparently they get worse with each child.

I keep checking in everyday for more births but am gradually coming to the conclusion that our June babies are JUST LAZY!!!! I can not believe that we are on the 9th June and haven't had anymore since the 6th!!!!

Right positive birth vibes to all of you, but no pressure, I had truly given up and resigned myself to an induction when everything kicked off, so lie back relax and and think of anything BUT babies!!

Night all

June2009 · 09/06/2009 21:44

Thanks Erm, sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing, it's very reassuring, I was going out of my mind. People have not been saying the bump is low though, but I've been told the baby is tall and I'm a short ass so even if she was low she'd still need to put her legs somewhere iyswim.
laura yes it happens when I've been walking too much... (glad the peas are working btw)

Tee Best best wishes for tomorrow, I hope you're excited more than nervous.
Can't wait to heat the announcement and I hope your last day on your own went well and you enjoyed it and rested! I'm really excited for you and we'll all be thinking about you tomorrow :D

insywinsyspider · 09/06/2009 22:14

mrsmcj that is a bit harsh of dh to say you won?t have any more if you aren?t coping now ? doesn?t that just mean he needs to pull his finger out more and help? Its wasn?t long ago you were on here telling us how hopeless he was being sorry if I speak completely out of turn but I?m get a bit fed up of my IL?s side of family asking if we are having any more (yes before I?ve even delivered this one!) and me saying 4 would be nice but for me it?s a head and heart thing and I know dh only wants 3 and them turning round saying ?well its not his decision its yours? because apparently they believe its my job to do the childcare so therefore my decision ? nope I?d viewed it as a partnership actually! I can?t imagine asking dh to do a night feed and him turning round and saying ?well its your baby? his family really are bizarre at times

sweep only had one done with ds2, I was already in labour, mw did what could only be described as a thorough examination when she arrived, it was painful but not horrific and I had my ?show? straight after , worth it if it kicks everything off, brings us closer to meeting lo?s!

So lost on where we?re all at except distinct lack on more babies arriving!

I went to mothercare today and bought cutest little outfit for a ds ? it says ?Bear? on front which is is what we want to call a ds3 ? got matching one in pink just in case!

effie lovely to hear your news x x

doris thanks for your positive baby birth vibes

Hello everyone else!

insywinsyspider · 09/06/2009 22:16

thanks for posts on 3rd stage, I also posted on childbirth section and am still undecided, I just don't want to 'wait and see' with out some kind of direction as just after baby delivered is probably not best time to decide, the longer I wait for baby the more time I have to dwell over what really isn't a bit decision I'm sure!
