Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi,

Been up with DD since 5.30am - AAGH! It's DH's birthday, but he's got college tonight so won't be back until 9.30ish and the celebrations are supposed to start then: I will be knackered! I might have to have a quick nap once DD's gone to bed tonight.

Homeinthesun, what scarlotti said has just reminded me of a lady I was speaking to a couple of weeks ago. I was telling her how this pregnancy felt so different (physically) to the last one, and she said she's had really bad AND and PND with her first child, but neither with her second. It wasn't as if her circumstances were different, but that each child had a completely different effect on her body, and so her mind, just in the same way that I've had bad MS this time and none at all last time. By all means look out for the warning signs (which I'm sure you'll pick up on much more quickly), but don't assume that you'll definitely suffer again this time. Hope you're feeling better today.

scarlotti have you used a pessary? My GP said it's perfectly safe, just to watch you don't push it really far. That cleared mine up. Oh and DH might need treating too.

Is anyone else ABSOLUTELY STARVING? I'm not too bad after lunch time, but in the morning I just want to eat and eat. I've just had a cheese, crisp and mayo sandwich which was yummy - I'm trying to stop myself from making another...

PavlovtheCat · 11/06/2009 11:19

laugs Happy Birthday Your DH!!!!!!

Laugs · 11/06/2009 11:25

Yours too!!

PavlovtheCat · 11/06/2009 11:27

OK, here is one more bit of info. This is very specific, and is for professionals who employ new and expectant mothers from the HSE. This is an employers legal obligations to you, so if you do not want to go in all heavy handed you could print it off (its a leaflet) and hand it to your manager and ask if he/she could read through and then have a chat about what needs to be done next. Especialy for those who have had falls/fainting episodes already.

So, now I will shut up about it unless you ask me any more questions. Ask away though, I love all this type of stuff !!! But feel free to slap me across the face to get me back into reality

Koumak · 11/06/2009 11:39

Just got to work. Well not right this minute. I did power worked briefly and then had breakfast! It took me 3&1/2 hours to get to the office this morning. And the only bloody tube train I could get on caught fire!!!!

Sleeplessinthecity can?t take credit for that I think it was Katster with the good advice, I have never been in position like this but do agree with everything everybody else was saying! I do hope they sort it soon.

Contessa it?s my second. Don?t know the sex yet. Can?t wait to see the baby in 2 weeks time (exactly)!

Skorpion I actually posted a thread on this cat business few weeks back. Somebody suggested the citrus smelling fruit and as I had a lemon just about to go off I used it instead. I found out that only fresh lemons worked although only for two days or so. I just literally squeezed it on the wall and around the ?favourite? area and between the ds?s lines of carrots! And left half of lemons on the side lying around. But as soon as it rains or the lemons dry up they are back! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/gardening/759168-How-to-keep-cats-away-from-my-front-garden

Pavlovthecat do you think I could have a copy of your assessment? They just made ?health & safety officer? at work ? even though I will be going on maternity leave in few months?. It would really soooo helpful as now i have to write my own!

Laughs I eat ALL the time! So far today I had haribos (before the dreadful journey the work) then 2 pita breads with butter for breakfast, Oasis citrus punch (am hooked on that drink at the mo) then massive fresh cheese straw from Tesco and am thinking already what I am to have fur lunch! And so you know just about to munch 2 apples!

tigger don?t be jealous it wont be pleasant with big belly I am dreading all my trips!

Koumak · 11/06/2009 11:41

i meant sb suggested citrus smelling plant!

PavlovtheCat · 11/06/2009 11:48

Koumack - good for you!! I will email it you, if you promise not to tell where you got it from, they might lynch me , I will need to email it to myself from work, and then I can email you a blank copy if you like. my line manager has hand written it very badly so you would not be able to read what she had put anyway.

CAT me your address and I will do it when I am next at work (not til next week)

sleeplessinthecity · 11/06/2009 12:15

sorry i meant Katster...you're all great at advice, its great! hope you're feeling better and are NOT at school

Koumak · 11/06/2009 12:28

pavlovthecat how do i do that?

helips · 11/06/2009 13:47

Blimey you lot, you are all so chatty that I don't know where to begin!

katster hope you are feeling better and having a good rest.

homeinthesun It is so hard when the dh's go away, mine has to go on business now and then and I hate it. I used to be able to muddle through on my own but now I get my sil to stay over as I hate being on my own! Ds is too young to know when his dad is away but am dreading when he's older and starts playing up.

laugs your sandwich sounds yummy! so far today I have eaten cereal, toast and peanut butter, a nectarine, a cheese and pickle sandwich, a packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate and I am still hungry! mmm, I sound a bit like the hungry caterpillar there! The biscuit tin is now calling me but I am trying to resist.

My topshop dress has been delivered and it looks lovely so yay! I have something to wear for the wedding! Was worried I wouldn't find anything nice so feel relieved.

southernbelle77 · 11/06/2009 13:59

I can't keep up! I'm so sorry. I really am trying to read every day and keep up with everyone, but I'm so knackered and I just can't remember anything! Just wanted to post so I'm not forgotten!!

grace09 · 11/06/2009 14:25

claire i asked the midwife that does my aquanatal class about this. She said they will only do the anomoly scan if you have a family history of heart or kidney problems. She did say that i could make something up (although she felt really bad for saying this). I've got my dating scan next week so i'm going to ask then, although don't think i've got the guts to lie and there's really no even slight family history of anything i could even exaggerate. here is the only place i could find that do private anomoly scans in glasgow.

claired21 · 11/06/2009 14:58

grace My cousin was born with a hole in her heart and I mentioned this but yesterday's midwife said unless it's a parent or sibling then they won't do anything. She said she has tried and put in requests for patients but they're all turned down. Again got the speech about maternity services in Glasgow changing but she was pretty negative about it and said they've been saying this for years!! Maybe in time for baby no. 2!!

Had been looking at that Babybond website this afternoon, seems like the closest thing to an anomaly scan available privately (other than Nuffield which is really pricey) with proper checks done and obstetrician available for advice if necessary but still resenting having to pay at all.

katster37 · 11/06/2009 16:16

claired and grace I find it outrageous the discrepancy in antenatal care in the UK... I read something that said only 7% of people are offered a nuchal scan??? Is so bad. Feel v lucky here as you get quite a few, and they are v detailed, but it's awful for you. Did you both get nuchal scans?

Laugs · 11/06/2009 16:43

I agree it is ridiculous. How hard would it be for them to standardise care throughout the UK? If they can only afford to offer a service in certain places, maybe they shouldn't offer it anywhere?

Here, my local hospital doesn't offer the nuchal, but the one in Newcastle does. Lots of people apparently say they're going to deliver in Newcastle to get the scan, then 'change their minds' and transfer to Gateshead to actually have the baby. This probably makes it impossible to get the staffing levels right as people are not honest about where they're actually going to need care.

Laugs · 11/06/2009 16:43

by the way, katster hope you're feeling better today

BeckyBendyLegs · 11/06/2009 16:54

It all boils down to money...we don't get nuchal and we have to pay for an extra scan if we want to find out the sex. Bah humbug .

Happy birthday to Laug's and Pavlov's DHs!

Cats hate citrus so planting lemon trees / spraying lemon in your garden might work! Cats also hate alcohol apparently, and chocolate (although my youngest cat will eat anything).

EasyEggs · 11/06/2009 17:51

At loooong last I have my internet back, woooohoooooooo! I am so happy. Only got it back this morning. I have been trying to get on here all day but for some reason it was all weird and kept getting error pages

Anyway, I hope you are all well and those bumps are getting bumpier! Just a quick one for the minute as having to sort kiddies out but just letting you know we had our sexing scan on Saturday and it's a .......see below

I shall be back later to try catching up with everyone. I could be there hours!

Tamlin · 11/06/2009 18:26

The thing is, I gather that the nuchal isn't more expensive to perform than the quad - but you DO need the technician to be properly trained to do it. And that training is expensive. So, because the trusts can't be arsed investing in their technicians' training from the start, everyone gets stuck with a less reliable test that throws up more false positives. Hurray.

Easy, congrats on your girl!

Becky, which hospital are you going to again..? I had two scans at the JR (anomaly and a growth scan) where the technicians were happy to tell me that DS was a boy.

I broke the unpasteurised rule today and enjoyed my favourite Stinking Bishop cheese on a baguette with ham and salad for lunch... It was SO good, I'm thinking about having it again tomorrow.

raggie · 11/06/2009 18:39

Hello everyone, thanks for your concerns, especially you Mrs Bossy ! It 'really wasn't that heavy...' but I suppose that's famous last words really. promise I will be much more careful in future.

Exciting news about BOYS and GIRLS Easyeggs (welcome back!) and katster, didn't know you knew. I can't wait to know what mine will be now. I think I have been feeling flutterings. My friend described it as like a fish turning over in water (erh! but...kind of appropriate) and that's what I've felt once, plus some bubbliness. Hehee!

EasyEggs · 11/06/2009 20:04

Thanks for the congrats

Katster congrats on the blue bump

It's so nice knowing what flavour we are cooking lol.

I already have ds7, ds5, dd almost 2 and ds 8m so I was praying for pink. Just hope he is as right as he made out and we don't find any "extra" bits at our 20wk scan!

I am so excited I can hardly wait to start going through all of dd's clothes to see what bits we have.

On the movement front I first felt it with this one the night before I was 14weeks. I was quite shocked as I haven't ever felt it that early before. Now I get proper little kicks. It's so sweet.

Laugs How is your poor friend doing? I haven't stopped thinking about her

Still haven't managed to read everything, can't believe how many posts there are!!

katster37 · 11/06/2009 20:22

That is lovely, EasyEggs - 2 DDs and 3 DSs - perfect!!
I found out at 13+3 when I had to go back to check the baby's heart rate after it was a bit fast at the nuchal scan. It was all normal a week and a bit later and the sonographer seemed fairly sure it was a boy. I felt (and this is awful) slightly disappointed as I had always envisaged having a girl first, but am really excited now. Can't wait 'til he's here!! Although I would like to have a girl at some point.

Was about to buy a doppler off the internet, but DH has point blank refused as he says they are notoriously difficult to use and if one day I can't find a heart beat, I will freak out and we will end up at the hospital every 5 minutes!! Oh, how well he knows me....

BeckyBendyLegs · 11/06/2009 21:35

Tamlin I live in Shropshire now so the hospital here in Shrewsbury.

Easyeggs that is lovely - I bet your DD will be pleased to get a sister!

Katster you may have many more babies to come in the future

I'm watching May Contain Nuts - hilerous - take heed all your newbies - do NOT turn into this woman!!!!

Laugs · 12/06/2009 07:59

Easyeggs thanks for asking about my friend. I haven't spoken to her yet as she's not ready, but we've been texting quite a lot. They're going to have a funeral for their son next week. She said the hospital were brilliant and really caring, which I'm very pleased about. She's planning to do some fundraising for them, which may be a good way to bring something positive into focus. I've also been told by her sister that those suggestions you sent me were incredibly good for her (she said 'you've helped her more than you'll ever know'). I think she's planning to write to you herself, but I'm not sure when. Thanks again xx

How's your new house, by the way?
And congrats on the girl! You too Katster - I think I knew you were having a boy but I'm not sure if I congratulated you. My DH has now admitted that he's hoping for a boy, which I sort of wish he hadn't. I don't think we're going to find out the sex, so he'll just have to wait and see!

Katster that is exactly the reason I wouldn't buy a doppler. I can be so neurotic at times and I've noticed even midwives find it hard to find the heartbeat, so it would be quite likely I'd have problems too. In my last pregnancy I ended up in hospital in the middle of the night as I convinced myself the baby hadn't been moving for a couple of days (this was around 24 weeks). Literally, the second I lay on the bed, the baby did a big kick! I don't think I even told them as I was really embarrassed.
