New thread for you as it was geting a bit big...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tamlin · 09/06/2009 22:21

Laugs, am so glad that everything seems to be ok - fingers are crossed that you don't have any more scares!

Pootle, women really seem to carry v. differently - I've noticed that very thin women seemed to 'pop' more obviously at first, as do short-waisted women (as the bump has nowhere to go but out!) It also seems to be short girls who get the splendid basket-ball shaped bump...

20 days until my scan - sigh. I think a lot of you who are due after me will be getting your scans before I do...

Is anyone else still feeling utterly knackered? I'm trying to stay up until DH comes to bed, but I think I'm going to give up and crawl in early.

raggie · 09/06/2009 22:26

Here I go again with the scan envy

Mine's not til 18th July! Does that make you feel a little better Tamlin?

Laugs · 10/06/2009 07:16

It's funny that a few of us have other DCs born in November too (mine is the 2nd). DDs first stocking was very much like yours BBL and scarlotti, she also had a Matalan christmas pudding suit! Does anyone ask you if you only have sex once a year? I've been asked this about three times!

Also, insanely, I have started to worry about DD's birthday and whether I will be able to hold a party for her at 37 weeks pregnant. This is quite stupid as we've never had a proper party before, but she is so excited by birthdays now - we have to hold a pretend party nearly every day - and also has lots more friends since she started nursery. And then I worry that Christmas is going to be a bit of a blur with a 4 week old, so DD may get left out then too.... Do you think I've got too much time on my hands?

Is anyone still having odd dreams? I was laughing so much at a funny dream last night that the bed was shaking and woke up DH, who in turn woke me thinking something was wrong. I still couldn't stop giggling when awake and had to take myself off to the loo for a big belly laugh! I was even chuckling when I went back to sleep. In the cold light of day, it wasn't really that funny (something about two different flavours of squash IIRC)

Laugs · 10/06/2009 07:37

Thanks for all the kind messages by the way. I'm feeling a bit cross with my hospital now as last night I read that the anti D injection is basically an injection of ready made antibodies.

So, on Saturday night when they told me after bleed I probably wouldn't need anti D again as I'd had it so recently, they were taking my blood to check the anti D was still present (which they thought it should be).

Somehow by Sunday this had turned into, from a different midwife "We've found antibodies in your blood and need to check the extent to which they're developing." But the midwife on Saturday night had hoped there would still be anti D (which I now know is the antibody) there so I that wouldn't need another injection. Would it have hurt for one of them to explain this?? Grr... (still keeping my fingers crossed though)

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2009 07:44

laugs DD is like this about birthdays too. Not surprisingly since you are me! She asks every other day if it is nearly her birthday yet, and tells most people its her birthday in July. We bought card making material yesterday and she told the shop assistant ALL about daddy's birthday and how he was having chocolate cake and she is having chocolate cake for her birthday in July! I asked her what she wants for her birthday party - she wants, balloons, chocolate cake, party cups and presents. If it is that easy, marvellous. It won't be that easy in future! I think at this age, anything with balloons and banners constitute a party.

Laugs · 10/06/2009 08:08

Yes that's true. We are going to have a 'party' for DH on Friday which will just be me, Dh and DD, so hopefully that will confirm to her the idea that parties can be small. Funnily enough, just after I posted that she brought me my birthday cake (a cushion) and sang happy birthday to me. Your DD sounds so much like mine! She likes to tell people that's she's going to be 3 (nevermind that it is 5 months away). Because she was talking about her b'day so much, I told her about two weeks ago that it is daddy's birthday soon. Every day, she hopes it is today and wishes him happy birthday. She can't wait to make the chocolate cake, so DH, who doesn't actually like cake, is under strict instructions that he will eat it. The funny thing is, she's making me quite excited too. In fact, I'm just off to buy supplies!

BeckyBendyLegs · 10/06/2009 08:28

Talking of funny dreams when DH came to bed last night I apparently asked him if he wanted a peice of pink cake. I actually remember doing this as well. Odd.

I will be 'two days overdue' or with two-day old baby when DS1 has his birthday so I have no idea what to do about celebrating it this year - a party might not be on the cards. Perhaps a family day out - depending on when I produce.

Laugs and Pavlov perhaps you were twins separated at birth and have gone on to lead very similar lives. I've heard of this happening. You never know!

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2009 08:55

LOL laugs DH bless him, is going to go and get his own supplies! He is a bit of a control freak when it comes to the kitchen anyway, and he likes to be involved in the whole cooking thing, which is good as I am off sick today, largely due to being sick! So while he is out we are going to make a card, I am going to draw something on a large bit of card, DD will 'paint' it and then we will glitter it and put stickers on, messy it will certainly be!

becky you never know eh

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2009 08:56

becky lol at the pink cake dream! DD came to sleep with me as she could not sleep - she fell asleep then started shouting, really angrily 'NO. No. I do not want to do.it.like.THAT' really loudly! Then opened her eyes 'its you mummy' smiled and rolled over back to sleep !

Fruitpastels · 10/06/2009 08:56

My ds's birhday is on the 2nd Nov, 2 days before the baby is due. I was a couple of days early with ds, so I'm a little concerned I may go into labour on his birthday. We've decided to play it by ear, and if I start getting all the signs of labour on or just before his birthday, we may postpone his day by a day or two! He won't know any different and I'd rather not have to walk out on him half way through his special day. If we have a party, it will be more along the lines of a birthday tea.

Tabbykat · 10/06/2009 08:58

Morning all, hope everyone feeling well?
Laugs your DD sounds just like mine! She is so excited about turning 3, even though it is ages away. She's desperate to have a boucy castle as we went to a party recently that had one and she thought it was just the best thing ever. Am really dragging my feet as I'll be 36 weeks preganant and not sure I can be bothered....and DH's comments that I'll be so big they could all just bounce on me were not gratefully received.....

Can second the bad skin comments - my skin is somehow really dry but with horrid red spots on my cheeks - any miracle solutions anyone has found, please pass them on!

Also having very vivid dreams. Am so tired today as woke up at 3 from a nightmare that I was dying and only had one day left to live and had to make a memory box for DD as I would never see her grow up. Spent the next 2 hours in tears thinking about horrid things - and now can't stop hugging her - she thinks mummy's gone mad, poor child!

On a happier note, we did a stocking for her when she was only a few weeks old - just a few odd bits in, but every year I buy a lovely Xmas deceoration for her stocking so that when she leaves home she'll have a collection of her own - my parents did it for me and I love it.Anyway, must get on with some work! xx

Ninjacat · 10/06/2009 09:52

Agh spent all night throwing up
Acid reflux has kicked in. Ow, I have never known pain like this.
Dug up an old bottle of Gaviscone from the back of the cupboard but not doing much good.
Anyone know what foods I should avoid?

Koumak · 10/06/2009 09:54

Katster my bump changes the size during the day but only from smaller to massive by the time I finish my dinner! It just grows with every meal. Is it the baby telling me something? I am hooked on haribos at the moment. Love fruit but cant face any veggies. Very odd.

Ds used to poo after his feed as well. It wasn?t too bad as dh moved on to the sofa in living room as ds was sleeping in our bedroom from beginning. I got one of those dimmer lamps so had it on only so little I could see what I am doing but not light enough to wake drowsy baby. It worked he slept from 11pm feed to 7.30am from 7 weeks old! But he was a really big baby who fed well during the day. I also remember when totally exhausted in first few weeks just having wipes and nappies ready on the bed so didn?t have to move at all!

pootle they are all lying!

Spots here not sure they ever left! Last time pregnant (mind you long time ago!) have discovered this tinned face cream from Lancôme it did seem to hide some of the spots and looked a little tanned too! Just looked cant see in on their web. Will have to attend store. Oh no! Will have to spend a LOT of money there?

katster37 · 10/06/2009 10:33

Pavlov we did ask for the tape recording, and they said they couldn't find it and therefore what they were saying NOW, stood. I personally think they listened to it, realised they had cocked up, and pretended they couldn't find it, although that may be my cynical mind. I didn't realise you could ask them for that though. Thank-you.

Koumak I am with you on the loving fruit, hating veg and loving haribo thing!! Have exactly the same thing!

Well, I am really embarrassed today. Got to work despite tube strike, and on the way in, felt unbelievably faint and sick. Next thing I know, I am lying in the foyer on the floor, my jumper whipped off, surrounded by the Head, 2 other teachers and 2 first aiders.... In a nearby room where they have breakfast club, I can see abut 30 chn all desperately trying to work out why Mrs Katster is lying on the floor.... Head drove me home and came into my flat which was a mess, and felt so so so embarrassed!!! She was absolutely lovely though and said she would ring DH and tell him to come home and look after me (he is now on his way home ) What a fuss I have made!! I feel OK now as well... Rang the MW who said it's probably all to do with this chest infection and not to worry, and that fainting can't damage the baby.... Feel like a right 'one'... Will be black marked at school!!

Koumak · 10/06/2009 10:41

Oops katster I am sure you will be laughing about this one day! Hope you didn?t get hurt though when you fell! What a lovely head you have. Can?t see my boss ever doing that but then he is a male and work in the city!

grace09 · 10/06/2009 10:54

Phew what a lot to catch up on again!!

katster you poor thing, get your feet up and look after yourself for the rest of the day!

ninja think i remember someone saying to avoid spicy and rich foods. Think coffee and dairy can trigger it too but not 100% sure. Hopefully someone more wise will offer some advice for you.

laugs sorry you're going through this stress and at your hospital for being so inconsistent and unhelpful.

Not much to report here. Started aquanatal class which is fun and was quite surprised at how much i worked. Think i had just imagined lots of pregnant women floating around in the water not doing very much. Really felt my muscles sore this morning. Second all the weird dreams. Mine still seem to be mostly sexually explicit which is the only pleasure i'm getting at the moment as i'm still not getting any (DH terrifed due to previous mcs).

Does anyone know if you need special travel insurance when pregnant?

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2009 11:08

katster by law, losing it is not justified, they would have to admit they have lost a tape recording of personal information which contravenes the Data Protection Act. if they state they have destroyed it, this will also break the data protection act. If you ask them formally for it, and they do not produce it, you can take them to court/ombudsman for breaking the laws around Data Protection, and you will be liable for compensation and they will be fined. You may find, once you go down this route, they find it again and back down. If not, you should write to the obudsman.

I will dig out a website which gives you template letters and tells you the guidelines for how long they legally have to respond before they have broken the law.

BeckyBendyLegs · 10/06/2009 11:14

katster I could picture you lying on the floor surrounded by everyone so vividly. Poor you!!! Rest up as much as you can today - that's an order!!!

ninja poor you. I agree with grace avoid spicy food and big meals.

sleeplessinthecity · 10/06/2009 11:42

katster you poor mite! Are you better??? did you get some time off? rest up you and i agree with Becky its an order!

Grace not sure about insurance would ask your normal insurance company.. but I would take a photocopy of my notes, re blood type etc just in case.

All of you be careful with EAsyjet sometimes they insist you have a medical note from GP to say you're fit to travel...so get one if you're flying with them (and showing lots)

Acid reflux here too..anyone know the french for Acid Reflux?

Laugs · 10/06/2009 12:04

Oh dear, I'm flying with Easyjet in July. I thought you only needed a note after 26 weeks, or did I just make that up?

Finally, pavlov's post of 11.08 is proof she is definitely not me. There I was thinking of birthday teas, a hammock full of balloons and a treasure hunt(Yes, DH is a grown man - do you think he'll appreciate it? ) and she is quoting the intricacies of the law

katster poor you! I hope you're getting plenty of rest and DH is taking good care of you. At least your head now knows how bad you are feeling and will hopefully continue to be sympathetic.

grace I really wanted to go to aquanatal classes but can't find any near here. Hope it's fun! I'm thinking of doing a pregnancy yoga/ movement/ active birth class, but I'm not sure when would be a good time to start. I think it runs for 6 weeks - would 30 weeks be too late to start?

Laugs · 10/06/2009 12:09

tabbykat your dream sounds horrible. Hope you're feeling better now after plenty of cuddles with DD. My DD loves bouncy castles too. Our local park drives me mad as every day through spring and summer they have bouncy castles up which cost about 3 quid a time. Considering we go there about 3 times a week, I am always having to steer her away from them or tell her that the other children are having a special treat. Going to the park should be free FFS!

tigger32 · 10/06/2009 12:22

Hello all.
Wow what a lot to catch up on!

Kaster poor you, I hope you feel better soon, make sure you put your feet up for the rest of the day.

laugs What a stressful time for you, glad things seem to be working out ok for you now though!

Spots just starting to reappear here too

I can't believe how quickly the last couple of weeks have gone, I'll be 18 weeks on Friday (only 2 weeks until scan)

On the subject of taking lo to scans, we didn't plan to take ds1 (who was 2.5) to any of ds2's scans, but I had an emergency on at about 30 weeks so we had no choice. He was angle whist I was being scans but got very fed up waiting before hand! We plan to take him (now 5.5) to my 20 week scan this time but not ds2 who will not understand or sit still!

pootle please take no notice of what others say, everyone is different during pregnancy, it is very normal to start to show now but it is also normal not too! Feel proud of your bump, I have had so many comments this time around on the size of my bump and I just smile and say its lovely isn't it! Please don't worry

sleeplessinthecity · 10/06/2009 13:09

laugs re Easyjet..they made a fuss about my friend who was only just showing..this is in Geneva, maybe they are a little an@l here..I'd call them in case.

pavlov you're full of info!

30th June--next scan...woo hoo

skorpion · 10/06/2009 13:23

bookmark goodness me, you're fast!

Contessa67 · 10/06/2009 13:40

Hello ladies!

Am very new to all this, and due late November 2009. If anyone in North London (Highgate, East Finchley, Muswell Hill, Archway, Crouch End)wants a buddy to be new at this (wondering if you're still pregnant, being bored by having to pee every five minutes, deciding on whether to do yoga and water births or hope for a big lot of drugs to help you through) together with (I know I do!) please drop me a line...
