New thread for you as it was geting a bit big...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fruitpastels · 09/06/2009 15:01

sorry I meant weston!!

Ninjacat · 09/06/2009 15:12

Just checking in.

Would rather not remember 3am feeds, midnight nappies or bodily fluids of any description right now.

Laugs thinking of you, sit tight and remember to breath x

Had my 16wk check today. Heard heartbeat so that was nice. Midwife won't treat me as a first timer despite the age gap so that's it now (except scan) until I'm 28wks. I'm just trying to think of it as 12wks of no poking and prodding.

Sorry no advice on beds as DS's was from Ikea.

Scarlotti unfortunately we are still scraping by as dp is re-training. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel this time though. Dp is also lovely, caring and tidy so that's a huge improvement on ds's dad who unfortunately was very abusive and continues to be a real thorn in mine, dp and ds's side. Grrrr

Hope every one is in good spirits. Let's hope we all start to bloom soon eh?

mumsiebumsie · 09/06/2009 15:28

Yeah when does the blooming start? My nails are still stubby and my hair dry. I thought I was supposed to look a picture of health about now

Koumak · 09/06/2009 15:47

weston did you look at the littlewhitecompany? they have lovely white furniture
look at www.thewhitecompany.com/category.aspx?ID=1000880

I had my "almost" 20 week checkup with GP yesterday evening as scan is week 22 wont see midwife till week 28 so GP said to come around week 25 for piece of mind. I like her more and more now I read about your experiences with various health professionals. She takes blood pressure and checks urine every time and yesterday she took the doppler out and we heard the heart beat, very reassuring.

I have now decided to take ds to the scan. Hoping as dh will be there too if he starts playing up he can always take him outside but I will try bribing first! What are you going to do fruitpastels? - btw can?t get enough of those recently

A friend of mine (American) wants to throw me a baby shower? I am not very keen but she and another friend from work seemed really disappointed when I tried to postpone it till October etc. It seems silly as it?s my second one and I am almost only one with children out of all friends and don?t want to be asking for presents if you know what I mean?

Hope you are all feeling alright today!

weston · 09/06/2009 15:49

oh yes i love the aspace stuff fruitpastels..now which bed..as its her first bed am i better with a nearer the ground one...some are 80cm and some are 90cm or does it matter??

Fruitpastels · 09/06/2009 16:01

I think the wooden traditional beds are nearer to the ground. My ds slept in a single divan bed at my parents recently and needed a safety bed guard, as he was so high up. I'm liking the bunk bed option for the future. If I have another boy then they will be sharing the same room, so I can have my spare bedroom back at some point.

Koumak I would like to take ds to my scan. He is nearly 4 and well behaved (most of the time !) I'm gonna have to see what mood he is in on the morning. Can't believe we're all nearly at our 2nd scan point. This pg is flying by, much quicker than my first time around.

Koumak · 09/06/2009 16:11

fruitpastels do you really think so? Some weeks are dragging! I think its also this time around I am so much more "educated" and worried something might still go wrong!

But hoping big plans for summer will help and the time will fly! During summer will have people visiting and 2 weddings to go to and hopefully weekends away to look forward to and then 2 weeks holiday at end of august. Plus ds starts reception in Sept so will take time off to settle him in, MIL 60th birthday afterwards, and then October half term and then baby!
You are right it will go really quickly!

Also have been promising ds a mouse once he is in big school (managed to downgrade from rabbit ? he wanted that as they have one in nursery) so I am sure that will keep me occupied too!

Koumak · 09/06/2009 16:16

now paranoid and cant decide if pets ok for pregnant woman?

Laugs · 09/06/2009 16:51

Just back from the midwife and feeling quite reassured. Although I still have to wait for my results (she can't speed them up), she said that the likelihood is that the antibodies they've found were a reaction to the anti D injection I had two weeks ago, rather than antibodies which are reacting against the baby. The test should be able to tell this. I think the lady I spoke to at the hospital yeterday might not have known I'd had the anti D, so didn't mention this.

Anyway, still waiting but feeling much more positive about it.

She also listened to the baby's heartbeat, which was fine (around 150 I think) and very nice to hear!

ninjacat I'm also a bit unnerved by the fact that, all going well, I won't see midwife again until 28 weeks. In fact, I just booked the appointment for 8th September. It feels like a lifetime away, but I suppose that should be reassuring too.

BeckyBendyLegs · 09/06/2009 17:18

koumak today i had to wash cat poo off ds2's hands as he'd been digging in a bit of the garden where the cats must do their poos (he stank). There was no-one else to do it. I think pets are safe so long as you take the same percuations you would if not pregnant about cleanliness.

3am feeds - ahhhh don't think about it yet. It'll be cold when we're doing these (ds1 was born in november and i remember it being really hard to drag myself out of nice warm duvet to feed him but then when it got to christmas it was quite nice to sit by the sparkling christmas tree and feed him feeling all christmassy!)

sorry about bad typing by the way my laptop died last night and i have dh's and his shift key is broken so capitals are hard, as are speech marks and the like as i can't get used to having to use the other shift key.

i have so much work to do this week i don't know where to start. procastination is the best policy i think!

katster37 · 09/06/2009 17:32

I think pets are fine too. I change my cat's litter but wear rubber gloves. Also, he doesn't go out hence doesn't (I hope!) eat mice which I think is the danger. Rodents (outside ones, not pets) carry toxoplasmosis which can be evident in cat poo. But washing your hands etc should get rid of it. ATleast that is what the vet said to me.

I have managed to pull loads of stomach muscles from coughing. It just will not go away. I had like a stabbing pain to the left of my tummybutton all morning. I think if it was baby-related it would be lower and crampier?? It felt muscular, and had had a spectacular coughing fit which lasted from 4am - 6.30am... It is seriously pis*ing me off now! Even the cat is running away from me!

A parent at school asked me when I was due today - so I must be showing, yay!!! Although bump size seems to change enormously throughout the day - anyone else find this?

katster37 · 09/06/2009 17:35

Also, a while ago I mentioned how Expedia had told us we could change our flights, then said we couldn't which means we now stand to lose £1300. Someone v kindly mentioned the name of the Guardian money person - to save me trawling through the whole of this thread, would anyone be able to remember their name??? Pleeeeeeeease?? My DH is fuming with what they are now saying - they accused me of 'getting hold of the wrong end of the stick' on the phonecall (I felt it implied I was a dumb pregnant woman) AND, how many ends of the stick are there to 'yes you can change it as long as you ring up before the day of departure as it is a fully flexible ticket'...

raggie · 09/06/2009 17:44

katster His name is Tony Levene and he will fight your corner!! Will be looking for your name in the paper this weekend! X

raggie · 09/06/2009 17:46

sleepless I have gone off my handwash too, which I normally really like - the blue antibacterial one, what's it called? Argh pg brain! - which I have been noticing more and MORE recently, anyone else? I can't even type properly anymore, grrr

katster37 · 09/06/2009 17:59

Raggie THANK YOU!!!!

hobnob57 · 09/06/2009 19:16

MAN I'm so busy!!! Glad all is pretty jolly on here - I look forward to a bit of light relief when I get home!

I'm starting to get tired again, and have a tendency to konk out at inopportune times during the evening. Never really get to speak with DH any more! Not that he's here this week anyway...

Just recruited my matty cover replacement so at least achieved something this week!

My skin seems to be getting spotty again after a while of being nice and clear. Anyone else?

sleeplessinthecity · 09/06/2009 19:30

I also recommend The Fisher Price Kick and play..teaches kids to use their legs and they LOVE the music...

My DD also always pooped mid feed so I would have to change her. She was in her nursery on day 1 so no problem disturbing DH..but it IS amazing how you just wake 30 seconds before that coughy cry....and that amazing feeling after the hour (the burping took ages!)of putting the nappy in the bin, tucking her in and returning to the sanctuary of our bedroom..phew..

sleeplessinthecity · 09/06/2009 19:38

Sorry missed a whole PAGE!

Glad scans etc are going well...and yes hobnob spots are coming back for me too..

katster sorry about your Expedia experience..hope this Tony dude sorts your problem out..

Radio 2 playing some really strange stuff now!! Animal Crackers in German!

PootleTheFlump · 09/06/2009 20:04

Gosh, have manages to get all left behind again!

Koumak if your friends are throwing it for you and you are not asking, then let them and enjoy it!! It's probably because they don't all have children that they want to make a fuss. Suggest it's just a get together with cake not presents if that makes you more comfortable

Laugs glad you had good news

I am closing my ears to all your horrid stories of night feeds and chilly changes!!! Am going to stay in my first timer bubble for as long as possible!!! Like bbl image of twinkly lights and me and the baby (might add a fireside in in soft focus!!)

I have really sprouted a bump over the last few days (a real relief after recent hospital stay). Was really proud of it but am now feeling deflated as nearly everyone has said something along the lines of, "I didn't get a bump 'til 6 months" or "No one knew I was pregnant 'til I left on M/L". PLease tell me I'm not alone in having lost my waist at this stage?! Don't think I have put on too much weight and am not expanding anywhere else [worried emoticon]!

BeckyBendyLegs · 09/06/2009 20:19

Talking of Christmas reminds me of DS1's first Christmas (he was born 16 Nov). We were spending Christmas at my sister's who has two children so 'Father Christmas' had to leave DS1 a stocking too. I really struggled to find suitable presents for a 5 week old baby so he got: a clutch clube, a nappy, a packet of nappy sacks, a new blanket, and a dangly thing for his cot. My sister's children thought it was hysterical that FC gave him a nappy for Christmas. I have a video of me sittinig with a sleeping DS1 while I open his presents for him (wrapped the night before by myself) pretending to be surprised and delighted on his behalf!

Pootle I have really sproated too recently and the acid indigestion has really kicked in. Yuck city.

katster I hope you get your money back - fingers crossed for you.

Fruitpastels · 09/06/2009 20:28

The last few weeks since the 12 week scan have flown by for me koumak I'm pleased the sickness is finally behind me and for most of us as well. I bet I'll be singing a different tune in the last trimester!

Yes spotty breakouts over here hobnob! I've had to buy lots of lotions and potions to try and combat them, it seems to be making an impact, but manage to get a new spot each day still..

I have sprouted over the last 2 weeks pootle. I showed early in both pg's. It makes me angry when people have negative opinions on your bump and/or pregnancy. I feel quite insulted when people say certain things and don't think before they say it.. I remember walking into a restaurant near to the end of my last pg and the owner shouted over "who's eaten all the pies?!" I didn't know if to laugh or feel angry! I'm petite, so maybe he felt it was ok to say it.. but still!!

Fruitpastels · 09/06/2009 20:29

Laugs glad to hear you're much more reassured

PavlovtheCat · 09/06/2009 21:12

katster have you tried asking for a recording of the conversation you had with the airline co to be listened to? I say this because in December, DH got a quote for annual worldwide travel policy for £79 with direct line, when he telephoned them to take them up on the quote (he did not trust online!), the person said they could save him some money as it was coming up at £67 with them. Ideal he said. Thank you very much. Policy document arrived while we were in USA on vacation so did not read it, when we got home we just filed it. Anyway, DH broke his ipod while away a couple of weeks ago and went to claim on travel insurance only to be told the insurance was a single travel policy for our last trip and as such we were not insured. Sure enough paperwork stated this to be correct, but DH was sure he had asked for annual, as we travel a lot, and would not have accepted single knowingly. He asked for them to listen to the tape recordings they always make, and sure enough they came back and confirmed he had asked for the the annual policy we were quoted, and was not told the policy being sold was single. So, they honoured the claim, and for the additional £12, they have restarted the insurance for a year from now (ie an additional 6 months for £12).

It might be worth asking them if you can have a copy, and if they refuse, ask for it under Subject Access Requirement (this is citing the data protection act which requests them to provide by law all information they hold on you including tape recordings, as long as you request that specifically). You need to do it in writing, send £10 cheque.

Its a lot of money. If they think you got the wrong end of the stick, how do they know they did not give the wrong info? unless they have listened to it, which means you can too.

PavlovtheCat · 09/06/2009 21:15

laugs you are not me are you?

scarlotti · 09/06/2009 21:25

BBL we did a stocking for ds too (he's 11th Nov) and I put in similar stuff to you! We bought a christmas pudding outfit from Matalan which was so cute!! It will be the right size for this one too
Acid indigestion is back for me too - glasses of milk are back on the menu.

Laugs glad it went well for you today.

My bump has popped out a bit more the last week or so, which means I look more pregnant and less fat

Looking forward to the scan in 10 days but am like some others here and am about 10 weeks away from the next mw appointment - seems such a long time.
