Just a quick post to say I haven't forgotton about you ladies. I've just had a major stressfull couple of weeks. Thing's seem to be settling now though, and Jacob is 3 weeks old tomorrow, I can't believe how fast it's gone!

Congratulations on all the new arrivals, sorry I haven't got time to name check.

Were going on our first proper car journey at the weekend, how brave are we?! 3 hours to London for my cousins wedding, with a 3 year old and a newborn lol

I don't suppose anyone has any info on babies being very sniffly? HV suggested this saline stuff, drops for up his nose, poor little might is so blocked up.

I'll try get on again soon, I've barely had a minute to myself, and when I do I like to have a 5 minute relax in the bath lol please don't forget me either

Belgian Thanks again for your help the other night.

Jael X

FiKelly · 20/05/2009 21:31

jael baby sniffles.. poor jacob. is it actually running out of his nose? or dry? if I remember right pretty much all the over the counter stuff is for 3months at least and over. if dry I'm wondering if a bit of a steamy bathroom may work to loosen it and you can always disrobe him a bit to make sure he doesn't overheat while you're in there. I bought a little suction gadget that you can gently use to suck any runny stuff out of nose when ds got very snotty..

LoobyLou36 · 20/05/2009 21:34

might brave my first mum and baby group tomorrow there's one locally that I can walk to. V. nervous about going tho as I'm not good at meeting strangers (I sound such a wuss )

FiKelly · 20/05/2009 21:45

looby go for it the 1st time is not nearly as bad as you think it'll be turning up a newbie to a group.. and remember if you don't like it for some reason you can always try another instead!

FiKelly · 20/05/2009 21:52

I have discovered one fun thing about being overdue this week.. you know how people in shops/the street/restaurants etc ask you how long you've got left to go? well I've really enjoyed seeing their expressions turn to panic when I say 'err last friday' that's not really evil of me is it?!

Blottedcopybook · 20/05/2009 22:13

Looby - Go for it! If it's anything like the groups I used to go to everyone will chat to you because you have an ickle newborn. Did your folks turn up today?

Fi - I've got suppositories and cream. They're making a massive difference when I use them but I'm still a bit ick about having to prod about down there. Ugh ugh ugh. I might give germaloids a shot because I am now absolutely terrified of pooing. Haven't gone since Saturday Also, it's very evil but also hilarious!

Grumpy YES! Honestly my fanjo is absolutely fine, not sore at all but the Farmer Giles kept me awake all damned night last night. Hope your DD isn't as bad as you expect - I'm actually surprised it's DS1 responsible here, I fully expected DS2 to be the source of trouble post-birth. Ah well.

Momino · 20/05/2009 22:15

congrats cote and yawning. any news from frazz yet?

good luck minimen and anyone else on their way.

nothing much to say right now but am very tired so off to bed soon. might try to give Harper a bottle of expressed milk. wonder if she'll be ok with bottle vs breast .

HtheH · 20/05/2009 22:53

Hi all, haven't been on for a while but just to let you know I am just back from hospital with my gorgeous baby boy Monty. He was born 4.59am on Sunday weighing in at 9lb 12.5 oz! So not a little chap, but absolutely adorable. Amazing 7.5 hr labour pushed him out in half an hour without any help, all went amazingly until the most humungous placenta came out followed by horrific PPH, lost nearly 3 litres of blood, but had the most amazing team looking after me. Thank god I didn't go for the homebirth I wanted. Had transfusion and all is well now, although a little tired, but so thrilled with my gorgeous boy and so happy to be home.
Hope you are all well and happy, congrats to everyone, I will spend the next few days catching up on all your posts

FiKelly · 21/05/2009 06:12

htheh congratulations to you all on monty and wow at 7.5hr labour with no interventions & his size too . great news that you're home. sorry to hear about your pph but as you say good that you were in hospital so they could stop it etc. are you on iron?

Momino · 21/05/2009 06:24

HtheH, congrats on Monty! love the name. Montgomery/monty was on our list if we'd have had a boy. glad your well and home.

Jael, glad things are settling and hope your trip to London goes smoothly with J's nose clearing (bless). btw you're so right to use any extra time for yourself like baths, sleep etc. no one's going to forget you .

how is everyone today? hope sleep is getting better. i had a better sleep last night with Harper waking tofeed twice but settling straight away. why do i feel more tired today though? must get up to get myself dressed before all 3 DD's wake so i look human for the nursery run. instead, I'm sipping coffee and a quick look at MN before my day is started properly.

oh, I tried a bottle of expressed on Harper for last night's feed and she took to it perfectly, clever girl. this means I can give DH the 10/11pm bottle feed so I can go to sleep earlier. or let him do one of the middle of the night feeds.

FiKelly · 21/05/2009 06:41

momino very clever harper.. and being able to go to bed and sleep for a longer stretch will be fantastic for you. I think I'd be needing the coffee more than getting ready for the nursery run too :-)

Reggiee · 21/05/2009 08:10

YAWNING and HTH many congrats . Hope you and COTE are enjoying cuddling your newborns. And quite possibly MINI too.

GRUMPY soryy you've been feeling down. You always come across so chirpy even in your 'low' posts - you always cheer me up and make me laugh . Big and happy delousing .

JAEL oh I feel the pain of the snotty nose in a little one. It's taken me about 3 days to remove a bogey from lo's nose (twisting a corner of a muslin and trying to 'catch' it). Steamy bathroom the only thing I can suggest. Good luck with your long journey - hopefully the lo's will sleep .

FI pmsl at teasing random strangers. How about when they ask have a fake contraction to get them doubly worried .

LOOBY ikwym about meeting strangers. I was crap at m&b groups first time round as I was so emotional I would have cried if anyone was nice to me, and I'm quite independent shy. However, the older dd got, the more I started randomly talking to everyone. I think you get fed up of ongoing conversation with x-month old that your inhibitions go and you talk to everyone who'll politely listen . And if you have a newborn, everyone wants to talk to you. Good luck!

MOMINO always start the day with MN and a cuppa - getting dressed can wait .
Last night was one of my worst as he was really unsettled from 2.15am. Thankfully I'd gone to bed at 8.30pm and left dh with the 11pm feed so I got enough sleep to function. He's been sleeping now for an hour but keeps doing that ridiculous squeaking!

emmabemmasmom · 21/05/2009 08:29

Congrats cote Glad you are feeling well!

Whoohoo mini Hope all goes well and can't wait to hear news!

yawning welcome back and congrats! Another great name too

Hope I didn't miss anyone!

Oh god I am so tired! Sara is a good little sleeper but in the morning she tends to have a few hours of alertness...sleeps two big naps during the day and then has another period of being alert from 8pm to...well last night it was until after 11pm! I was so tired I just wanted to sleep but then she only wakes once to feed and I am up at 7 with DD so I guess it is not that bad, but still! I don't like not being able to go to bed when I want to lol

My breasts are so engorged that she is now finding it hard to latch on. Feeding in bed last night was not easy as a result. I don't want to pump as I am still getting my flow going but what do I do?

Piles are aweful. I got a prescription from my GP and actually had a reaction and was in tears. I tried anusol and had another reaction so I can only use prep H which helps but not much

DD is proving to be difficult. Why did she decide that this was the week to start the high pitched screaming tantrums? Trying my best to make her feel secure since the big change but I also need her to know right from wrong. Feel like I say 'no' all day...

Just enjoying my coffee before Sara wakes...

Would you all suggest pumping a little to soften my boobies so she can latch or just keep trying with them so engorged and hard? not sure what to do...

FiKelly · 21/05/2009 08:59

emmab I've not really breast fed but seem to remember reading that super engorged breasts make it v tricky for lo to latch on.. I've read lots of latching probs advice as one of my nips tends to flatten and causes same prob as engorged. I'd either express a small amount to relieve it enough for sara to latch on or you can use a gadget to suck the nipple out a bit more prominently.. lansinoh do a latch assist thing which is about £7 I think? you could use a pump too..

runningmonkey · 21/05/2009 09:00

Morning everyone,

Congrats to yawning htheh and cote fantastic news. Glad your elcs was a positive experience too cote.

Any news from frazz ?

Go mini woo hoo!

grumpy sorry you are feeling down, completely understandable esp with two little ones to look after too. Have a louse free hug from me too.

Good to hear everyone with babes are doing ok too - momin, Jael, Emmabemma, reg and anyone else I missed.

Fi lol at scaring strangers. I did the same to the plumber who came round on Tues... he looked really petrified when I said I was due this week!

I had an unexpected MW appointment yesterday as I've finally been transferred across to my new doctor since we moved. She seems lovely and is going to ask some other local ladies if they would mind me getting in touch with them so I've got some social contacts once lo is here. All is good - head 2/5 palpable and bp is still nice and low. I asked about sweeps etc and they are not technically supposed to do sweeps before 41 weeks but she said if I was really, really uncomfortable she could do one next week. Think I'll take her up on it!

What ever happens tho, I am booked for induction on 2nd June!

Am going to have a lazy day today so will prob be around on and off, have a good day all. xx

Blottedcopybook · 21/05/2009 09:03

EmmaB I'd definitely express a bit off, it'll make her latch a lot better and should prevent you getting sore. I know how you feel with the engorgement - Greer's such a bird that she's not emptying my boobs and they're just so sore now!

HtheH Congrats!

Jennster · 21/05/2009 09:38

emmabemma definitely express just enough to make yourself comfortable. It doesn't have to be much.

Jael Saline nasal drops are less than £2 and help loads with snuffly babies, as does Mominos idea to get the bathroom steamy.

HtheH Well done and at pph. So glad you were in the right place, but very scary.

I swaddled lo last night as I was incredibly tired and thought I might get a longer stretch of sleep. I woke at 6! I don't feel too bad about it as dd2 cluster fed all evening, but my goodness I needed to feed her. I also woke up with an absolute stinking cold. Nasty thick catarrh, but paracetamol and hot steamy shower have made a massive difference.

Hope all those still expecting are comfortable and not too down.

All those who I've missed who've sprogged, I'm very sorry. Hope you're finding the cuddles great.

sophietom · 21/05/2009 09:48

Congrats HtheH, yawning and Cote

Wonder how frazz and Minimenace* have got on?

love the new list with sub-headings - can't wait until my little one is fully cooked.
My bump seems to have grown a lot this last week- DP keeps looking at it in wonder. I think my baby is going to be a whopper

sophietom · 21/05/2009 09:49

ps HtheH, Monty is my favourite name on this thread so far - I love it x

Momino · 21/05/2009 10:18

emmabsmom, i echo the others saying express a little just to ease the engorgement, not too much though. also warm flannels in the shower, paracetamol for the pain. there are also nipple shields which help with inverted nipples or engorgement but I've never tried them so can't really recommend whether or not they work.

LoobyLou36 · 21/05/2009 10:30

well todays the day - my first mum & baby group

what to do about feed tho? we're still 50/50 formula/bf
i haven't bf in front of strangers b4, apart from when i had to go to out of hours gp at the hospital when one chap tutted and walked off in disgust

i don't have any bf tops and am a bit worried about embarassing myself/flashing.LO doesn't always latch properly either. should i take formula? can i make it up b4 i go?

this probably sounds really pathetic but we've hardly left the house since M got home for more than a half hour walk round the block due to bad cs wound infection/not being able to drive so have lost alot of confidence

LoobyLou36 · 21/05/2009 10:32

congrats cote and htheh

LoobyLou36 · 21/05/2009 10:38

i am normally a fairly confident person but my confidence in anything seems to have disapeared don't want to look like a crap mum.

i feel really isolated and down at the moment. DH doesn't really understand why I'm like this - all he seems to care about is when he can have nookie again
